Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Share Your Experiences Working In A Private Company In Nigeria" by Carlos3917: 4:07pm On Nov 20, 2023
Hey Nairalanders!

I stumbled upon this thread and thought it's a great opportunity to share my experiences working in a private company here in Nigeria. I've been a part of the workforce for about five years now, and it's been quite a journey.

Firstly, the work culture varies a lot depending on the industry. I'm in the IT sector, and the pace is fast, to say the least. The demand for innovation and adaptability keeps us on our toes. Deadlines can be tight, but the collaborative spirit among colleagues makes it manageable.

One challenge that stands out is the power situation. In some companies, having reliable backup generators is a must, but even then, power outages can disrupt work. It's something we've learned to cope with, but it does add an extra layer of complexity to daily operations.

On the positive side, the camaraderie in the workplace is incredible. Nigerians are known for their warmth and friendliness, and that definitely reflects in our office culture. Team bonding events, celebrations, and a sense of community help create a supportive work environment.

Salary-wise, it's a mixed bag. Some companies pay competitively, while others might lag behind. Negotiating your package is crucial, and being aware of industry standards is a must. Don't be afraid to ask questions during interviews about benefits, bonuses, and career advancement opportunities.

Overall, the private sector in Nigeria is dynamic and full of opportunities for growth. It has its challenges, but with the right mindset and a proactive approach, it's definitely a rewarding experience.

Looking forward to hearing others' experiences!

Career / Re: Paystack Sacks 33 Employees In Dubai & Europe - CEO by Carlos3917: 5:41pm On Nov 18, 2023
It's disheartening to hear about the recent layoffs at Paystack in Dubai and Europe. Losing a job is never easy, and my thoughts go out to the affected employees during this challenging time.

I wonder about the reasons behind the decision and how it aligns with Paystack's overall strategy. Layoffs are often a tough but necessary step for companies facing financial challenges or restructuring. It would be helpful to have more context on the company's current situation and the specific factors that led to this decision.

Additionally, I hope that the affected employees receive the support they need as they navigate through this period of uncertainty. Job loss can be a significant setback, but it can also open up new opportunities for growth and resilience.

It's crucial for companies to prioritize transparency and communication during such transitions, ensuring that employees are well-informed and have access to resources for their next steps. As the situation unfolds, I'll be keen to see how Paystack addresses the aftermath and what measures they put in place to support both the remaining staff and those who have been let go.

Wishing everyone affected the best in their future endeavors.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Israel Launches ‘targeted’ Military Operation Inside Gaza’s Al-shifa Hospital. by Carlos3917: 9:27am On Nov 15, 2023
From Custom Packaging NYC! This news is deeply concerning and raises many questions about the ethical implications of military operations within civilian hospitals. While it's crucial to consider the context and reasons behind such actions, the sanctity of medical facilities as neutral zones must be upheld to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians, including patients and healthcare workers.

International law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, explicitly prohibits attacks on medical facilities and personnel, emphasizing the importance of protecting those who are not involved in the conflict. The reported military operation inside Al-Shifa Hospital is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by civilians in conflict zones and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions.

It is essential to await further information and investigations to understand the full scope of the situation and the motivations behind this operation. Regardless of the circumstances, the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law should be paramount in any conflict. This incident highlights the necessity of international efforts to address the root causes of conflicts and work towards sustainable peace in the region.

Phones / Re: How Do I Stop Unknown International Numbers From Calling Me by Carlos3917: 7:44am On Nov 08, 2023
Hey there, From NYC Packaging Solution!

I completely understand your frustration with those annoying unknown international calls. They can be quite disruptive. Luckily, there are a few steps you can take to minimize or even stop them:

Block the Numbers: If you receive repeated calls from the same number, you can block it on your phone. Most smartphones allow you to do this. This way, that specific number won't be able to call you.

Check Your Phone Settings: Go through your phone's settings and see if there's an option to filter or block calls from unknown or international numbers. You can usually find this under "Call Settings" or something similar.

Use Third-Party Apps: There are various third-party apps available on both Android and iOS that can help you block unwanted calls. You can explore apps like Truecaller, Hiya, or Nomorobo.

Contact Your Carrier: Sometimes, your mobile carrier can help. They might have services or options to block specific types of calls, including international ones.

Don't Answer: If you see an unknown international number, it's often best not to answer. If it's important, the caller will leave a message or find another way to contact you.

Consider Changing Your Number: As a last resort, if the issue persists and you're constantly bombarded with such calls, you might consider changing your phone number. This can be a hassle but could be effective.

Remember to be cautious and avoid sharing personal information over the phone with unknown callers. If you suspect the calls might be part of a scam, report them to your local authorities or relevant agencies.

I hope these tips help you in dealing with those pesky unknown international calls. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Get more info by clicking here.
