I would like to use this golden opportunity to enlighten Nigerians on why any aspiring accountant should write ACCA exams instead of ICAN.

Before I continue, I will like to say here that comparing ACCA to ICAN is like comparing Ronaldo De Lima to Emile Heskey. Ignorance is really not bliss!


1. RECOGNITION

It goes without saying that ACCA being a global body for accountants is recognised in almost every part of the world. If you aspire to live and work in/outside Nigeria then ACCA is the answer. In June 2016 ACCA had 188 000 members and 480 000 students from 178 countries. There is little wonder as to why the body is growing in leaps and bounds globally. ACCA is not recognised in only a few countries.

2. EXAM FLEXIBILITY

ACCA exams are highly flexible. They are both computer and paper based. Furthermore,In Nigeria the first three exams are offered in an on-demand computer based format. This incredibly increases your pass rate since you are working at your own speed, time and convenience.

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATES

On your road to becoming an ACCA member you have a chance of grabbing a number of certificates and qualifications before being awarded a B.sc and/ M.sc(Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, UK. Qualifications includes : Awards of excellence, Diploma in Accounting and business, Advanced Diploma in accounting and business.
Furthermore, every year ACCA offers scholarships to 5 students who attain a certain performance.

4. EASY TO PASS

It is below average students who prepare badly that always complain about ACCA being difficult. I don't know if it's because of our poor educational system or those who enrol for a ACCA in Nigeria are just below average.
With a study material and a revision in 3-4 months you get awarded an accounting diploma which qualifies you as a junior accountant after passing just three on demand computer based exam exams. Flexibility!

5. STUDY MATERIALS

ACCA study materials are the easiest to get for any professional accounting exam online - with just a phone call you can get any hard copy study text/ kits of your choice at your disposal. It took me two days to order and receive F6 FA2016.
Let me also add that there are a lot of ACCA free learning resources/ classes online. For example Opentuition, LSBF and YouTube offer free lectures videos and class notes tailored according to ACCA syllables from F1-P6.


Please my fellow ACCA students don't be moved. You are on the right path. Hardwork and a determined heart will get us there. You don't need to waste money paying for ACCA lessons when there are a lot free lectures online, waiting for you to download them. Just get your study and exam kits and do a lot of practise. I noticed the symptoms of Vitiligo on my lips around August last year..At first it was just a small patch but subsequently it began to spread to other parts of my lip and also outside the lower lip.

I get questions everyday asking me why my lips is like that... Some assume I got burnt by acid or fire... I'm a very confident guy so I don't really allow the insults and tantrums get to me..at least I try to hide it as much as I can.. But of recent it is becoming too much and I've told myself that if the spreading continues I would have no other option than to end my life because I cannot imagine living a life of stigma, pity and neglect.. I really can't

I have met severally with dermatologists and have bought several creams and drugs but all to no avail.. The spreading did not still stop.. Not to talk of repigmenting.

This has affected my social life in many ways, I can't boldly walk up to strangers anymore because I always have this feeling that they are looking at my lips.. I no longer have female friends and I'm always withdrawn inside my shell because of it... My self esteem is down to zero. The mere thought that I will live with this forever and it will never stop spreading has made me suicidal.

I got a camouflage tattoo but it wasn't effective upon all the pain I passed through.. Now the substance I use to cope with it is hair dye which I apply before going for my law classes in the morning ... I still wonder how I will be able to practice law with this kind of lips.

Please nairalanders help me with any advice that might be helpful to save a brother.

I remember when i had a similar incident, I was made to part with #35,000 with a lot of apologies ohhh.... Happened somewhere in Onitsha.... Those guys on uniform are criminals with federal licence. Even members of the APC know that there the possibility of their party winning the 2019 elections is slim. Most of them are patiently waiting for the right time to defect. Some PDP members have defected to the APC with the sole purpose of monitoring the APC's progression and planning as spies and hence report back to the PDP to enable them know what they are up against. Watch as majority members of the APC would defect to the PDP in January/February.

Only one scholarship slot available?? Mtchewww.... The head organsier should kuku give it to his child or sibling. They just made it official just go publicity sake. Its not like they are looking forward to getting people's applications or its something given on merit.

Where you engaged in a 'suspicious activity' ab initio, that warranted the attention on you or did they just pick on you randomly?

It's a random picking stuff... I guess it stems from appearance and body carriage mostly.

I think l am just very unlucky because l always pray that l should encounter one of these 'stop & search' my phone SARS team but so far, l have never been lucky!

My phones (One HTC, One Samsung and one old Iphone) are all passworded and they contain very, very sensitive information, including bank pincodes, passwords, e.t.c.

Infact, my phones are hte most important items l have and l guard them seriously.
I want to see how that SARS officer will force me to enter my Pin codes, to unlock the phone, by force, without a valid warrant.
And he can be sure that he will see a lot of foreign calls on it as my phones are not just for making audio calls but are my own business tool.

I guess they do a sort of 'profiling', based on your appearance or how you speak to them, to decide who to search.

Maybe l will be lucky one day sha.

Bro, my advise to you is to stop praying for negatives. Nothing good comes out from those people. My phone too was passworded. I was ordered to unlock it. If you do not oblige, you may not live to tell the story. And when international calls start coming in, you become a yahoo yahoo boy automatically. Your End becomes almost inevitable. Do not do ITK with the Nigerian police. To be forewarned is to be fore-arned!

Virtually everytime I enter Lagos, the Nigeria Police on uniforms and moftis in yellow buses do stop and search me and go ahead to forcefully search through my phone messengers, gallery, whatsapp, email and even facebook. It's a huge harassment. But what can man do? If you counter them, they could shoot u and you would be just one of those Nairaland stories about "man shoot by trigger happy policeman" and in two days, your news would be stale.

So I always let them do whatever they want. Last time, after searching me and the Uber driver along Festac town, they left me and took the uber driver to their station simply because they saw his chat with a foreign number on his phone discussing how to import a car.
