Hello Gazzuzz, 235/65/17 price? Thanks. |
First off, let's begin with what they have in common: idioms and figures of speech both have special meaning. In other words, they don't mean exactly what they say. They say one thing and mean something else. In summary therefore, idioms and figures of speech both have figurative value (conveying meaning different from the ordinary words used). That said, idioms are fixed, formulaic expressions that convey meaning that can not be deduced from the individual, or collective, meaning of the words that make up the idiom. For example, the idiom 'to kick the bucket' has nothing to do with buckets or the act of kicking. It talks about death, instead. Figures of speech, on the other hand, are devices of literature that are employed to add colour and imaginative creativity to works of literature. They range from devices such as metaphor, personification, simile to synecdoche, etc. For example, 'this shirt makes me hot' interpreted literally means that the shirt makes me sweat. However, interpreted literarily (metaphorically), it means that the shirt makes me sexy. I hope that helped? |
Impressive. I wonder what his products look like in their final package. |
Surely these girls don't need an allowance to take a bath. Please do not lose your humanity and dignity because of some allowance. By all means, demand your allowance but be sure to retain your humanity all through the process. Allowances will come and go; humanity once lost, is gone for good. |
I need some help here: what exactly is racism? Is it something you say or do? And how precisely is Trump racist? Mind you, I'm not saying he is or isn't. I just need some schooling on how he is racist - because I know that blacks have said worse things about one another than he did. Yet, blacks can't be racist, can they? If Obama weren't black, I'm sure we'd call him racist for standing by and watching police brutality against blacks mount. But hey, he's black and therefore not capable of racism. What do I know? The American press greatly misled us in the run up to the elections by selling us untruths concerning the standing of the candidates. We must be careful to ensure that they don't continue to mislead us, post election. |
First off, the language, the logic and the claim of the op is flawed. I don't know what subject you teach, but your language certainly could do with some polishing. Second, WAEC isn't flawed just because your school didn't get what you anticipated. Your school is just ONE school. Perhaps you should ask other schools what they think and how they fared. Finally, who on earth told you that WAEC is not acceptable beyond West Africa? Please get your facts right. WAEC results can take you anywhere in the world. Your write-up has no element of credibility: you mention no school, no specific subject and no specific grade. |
If we will remove the veil of partisanship for once and look dispassionately at ourselves, I think we will begin to appreciate how naked and shameful we truly are as a people. Why in God's name does an election have to generate this level of bile in us? This is like insisting on serving a people whether they like it or not - if service of the people is what this is about in the first place. We know it's not. Look at how much we have to show for ALL the previous elections that we have held and all the political propaganda speeches we have made. Look at how 'developed' we are as a people. Shame on all you Nigerians who insist on treading the path of primordial politics that has made us last among equals. I wish Donald Trump wins the American presidency and confines the whole lot of you to your nation and what you have made of it. Shameless political clowns for whom politics is its own reward and development comes from God. |
Nice use of language and good manipulation of the narrative technique. But, can we please for once deviate from telling tales that sicken the mind? What lesson are we supposed to learn from Mrs. Winifred's experience? Never leave your daughter alone at home with your husband or never leave your son alone at home with your wife? Please, enough of this filth. The cure for vice is virtue - not the propagation of vice in prose narrative disguising as a lesson teacher. |
I'm not one to complain about threads making it to the front page but can someone please explain what we're supposed to do with this. |
There's a lot of excitement about political photographs these days and I wonder why. Rather than mourn and indulge in private, ineffective lamentation why don't we just arrest these people already. Let me guess...that'll amount to a violation of the principle of freedom of association, right? But suppose we were to sue them for this, what would the charge be? Unlawful association, illegal assembly, public nuisance, indecent exposure, what? There is a saying that a dog that'll bite doesn't bare its fangs. If we agree that the people we're dealing with are not 5tupid, why would they so cheaply betray their intent to loot through photographs of this sort? I see no issue here. We must stay focused and pay attention to the things that matter. The president and his family may associate with whoever they please just like the rest of us. But the day they default on a relevant point, we will be here to do them service by pointing it out and demanding redress through legitimate means. |
I hope his excellency, the current governor of Lagos State, understands that he has less than four years to win himself some personal credibility in order to remain in office beyond his first term. Photo administration does not impress anyone in the face of harsh realities of a regressing system. And this goes for government at all levels. |
I'm sorry, OP, but the 'advice' you have churned out here is no advice at all. First, contentment is not a virtue to be practised in the workplace. Why? Simple: you never get what you deserve but what you bargain for. And if you think you are getting much less than you are worth, that is not the time to be content but to push for a better deal which sometimes could mean taking the blind plunge and trying elsewhere. I think the main point here is not to overestimate your worth. This appears to be what happened to you and, believe me, you are not everyone. To overestimate yourself and ask for what you are not worth is a big mistake for which you will pay big time should you resign on this account. That's what happened to you. You don't have a contentment problem; you have an overestimation problem instead. |
