Travel › Re: How I Was Scammed By A Hotel / Booking Agency At Murtala Mohammed Airport by ceasare: 3:49am On Dec 23, 2016 |
obidevine: Hello nairalanders, I'd like you all to read this my epistle on my bad experience with a travel / hotel booking agency in Muritala Mohammed international Airport, Lagos , Nigeria.
I and my wife got a 3 months visitor's visa to South Africa , our visas were granted after we had satisfied all their visa requirements ( with our hotel bookings and statement of account verified) .
On the day we were meant to travel, we got to the departure area of Kenya airways (the airline company we were meant to fly with), the airline attendants asked for a copy of our hotel booking and "yellow card", to my surprise I and my wife forgot the print out of our hotel booking, but luckily we had our yellow cards.
The flight attendant told us that we couldn't go through without our hotel reservation, I told him that we got the visa because the south African Embassy had verified all our documents -hotel reservations included- before granting us the visa , the attendant ( a nigerian) was adamant that without the reservation we couldn't go through, he even told us that even if he let's us pass that when we get to South Africa they would send us back because we didn't have evidence that we had a hotel reservation, I thought to myself " which kain wahala be this sef".
A lady who was standing beside called my wife aside and said she could help us book another hotel accommodation, she directed us to her desk just opposite where the airline attendant was harassing us, we had to cancel our former booking and eventually ended up paying 105,000 naira for 4 nights stay in another hotel, the lady printed out the document and handed it to us, we took it to the attendant and he granted us passage.
When we eventually arrived Johannesburg, South Africa to our surprise they didn't even ask us for the hotel booking, they only checked our yellow cards , warmly welcomed us to their beautiful country and stamped us in , we found our way to the hotel they booked for us, after showing the hotel manager ( who coincidentally is a Nigerian) the booking print out he looked at it and told us that the booking was only done for 1 night, I and my wife didn't look at the print out in Nigeria because we were in a hurry not to miss our flight ( it was when the hotel manager pointed out a couple of things on the printout that we realized to our dismay that the lady in Nigeria booked only one night for us after collecting money and claiming she booked 4 nights) , I and my wife were perplexed, we had to pay for another 4 nights . It's obvious that the Nigerian man working with Kenya airways that checked our documents at Muritala Mohammed airport connived with the hotel booking agency to rip us off.
The reason I'm writing this is to bring to the fore the fact that this travel / hotel booking agency with their desk directly opposite Kenya airways departure section is a big scam ( they didn't even put their name on the receipt because they know they are a scam) the reason why we didn't scrutinize the printout like I said was because we were in a hurry not to miss our flight. I really don't know why we ( Nigerians) like to be so cruel to ourselves. This should serve as a warning to all of us that we should always scrutinize receipts and other documents given to us. O boy when u r back straight from plane go to d desk and create a scene and possible Sue there ass off.reason why issues like these persist or are rampant is because Naija folks Hardly report things or incidence to the authority and see it to a logical conclusion(result of a weak police And legal system) Case of brabus on property section comes to mind of all d diasporans he has duped as a building Contractor it's only one that had d courage to arrest and sue him....the rest left him to God! Now his he not eating beans in jail? |

Crime › Re: RRS Nabs Five In-traffic Robbers In Lagos (Photo) by ceasare: 12:54pm On Dec 22, 2016 |
EdifiedCEO: The onslaught on in-traffic robbers by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command is yielding results with the arrest of five robbery suspects in different parts of the metropolis. The suspects were apprehended during a special raid by the RRS operatives on robbers who were attacking and dispossessing members of the public of their valuables in traffic. The suspects, Oyeleke Abdullah (24), Olajide Dipo (17), Saheed Alayande (17), Azeez Yusuph (21) and Oyeniwa Wasiu (18) were nabbed in Victoria Island, Ojodu Berger, Oshodi, Obalende and Ilubirin around the state.
RRS investigator revealed that before the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, had directed the RRS Commander to deploy more operatives to Ojodu Berger, Lekki and Oshodi in order to ensure ‘Ember’ month free crime.
It was gathered that some operatives of the RRS’s Decoy Team, in arresting one of the suspects, Azeez Yusuph, pretended to have had a broken down car under the Ilubirin Bridge around 4:23 a.m.
“It was very early in the morning when an undercover policeman pretended as if his vehicle broke down on the bridge while some of his colleagues hid somewhere to ambush the robbers who would come and harass the lone occupant of the vehicle…. The suspect showed up few minutes trying to collect handset and money from him, that was when we arrested him,” the source said.
He hinted that the operatives also got complaints from members of the public on RRS social media platforms about the activities of miscreants on road users with broken down vehicle in Ilubirin.
Abdullahi confessed to interrogators “I was trying to make ends meet by snatching valuables of stranded drivers on the bridge,” adding that he sleeps underneath the bridge along with his colleagues.
In his confessional statement to interrogators, another suspect, Oyeleke Abdullah, a danfo driver revealed, “I snatched a Zeltel phone from a passenger around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday…. There was traffic entering Lagos on Saturday at Berger, I decided to use that opportunity to snatch handset and other valuables from commuters. My colleague and I do this whenever we need money.”
Another suspect, Saheed Alayande, who was arrested in Oshodi disclosed that he was a bus conductor in Oshodi. “Whenever I am not doing that, I carry load and wares for people with my friend. It was here that I stole the phone that I was caught with before I was arrested.”
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Dolapo Badmos, said that the Command was on high alert to curb social miscreants who exploit traffic situations in the metropolis to dispossess Lagosians of their valuables on the road.
The suspects have been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.

Manchester City’s Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho and his club teammates committed funds to refurbish the Child and Adolescent Mental Health ward of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital on Friday.
It was however not revealed how much each player donated, according to the Daily Mail. Iheanacho was one of the six first team players, City boss Pep Guardiola led to cheer hundreds of youngsters during their annual visit to the Royal Manchester Children’s hospital.
Iheanacho who has made 11 English Premier League appearances, scoring once, was joined by John Stones, Alex Kolarov, Pablo Zabaleta and Willy Caballero.
Commenting on City’s visit, Guardiola said at the venue: “Today, the team has come together to see the life-changing work the hospital and its staff are doing every day right here in Manchester – it’s a very special place,” Guardiola told Daily Mail.
“The kids were so happy and to see the smiles on their faces was fantastic. We are part of this city and if we can help them for a short time, then it’s an honour.
“A big thank you to the people from the hospital, they are the real heroes. As the manager of Manchester City, thank you so much.
Manchester City take on Arsenal on Sunday in the English Premier League fixture.

When I hear people call Dangote, or even Forbes calling him the richest African,I just laugh. When I hear the likes of Alakija's or the noise maker,Emeka Offor shout about their wealth,I smile.
This is one man that has for decades been killing Nigeria, and looting us blindly to the ground, and he does it very silently.
Danjuma has more Oil Wells than any Nigerian dead or alive. I know I am guilty of shouting Jonathan's name always, but this is a man past and present Governments should have tried to collect our commonwealth from.
Danjuma is the definition of an untouchable Nigerian.
And after pillaging our funds that could have been used to develop our hospitals,he was Airlifted in an Air Ambulance to get treated for common malaria overseas.

[quote author=ceometromedia post=51302242]The Lagos State Government on Wednesday terminated the monthly environmental sanitation exercise which hitherto held for three hours on the last Saturday of every month. The State Government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said the decision to cancel the monthly exercise followed a resolution arrived at Wednesday’s Executive Council meeting which approved the need for a robust review of the environmental laws and procedures in the state in order to meet the present day challenges and to promote a clean and healthy environment. The Government noted that considering the present economic situation in the country, it was no longer appropriate to restrict movement of people for three hours in a mega city like Lagos at a time they should be pursuing commercial and entrepreneurial activities. Now na morning?! According to government, in the last two decades, Lagos has grown exponentially into a mega city with the attendant huge environmental problems associated with managing a population of over twenty million people.
But sadly, the environmental laws, policies and procedures being practiced in the State have not been able to match the phenomenal growth and the dream of a 24-hour economy, hence the need for the reform.
Ayorinde said the State Government was not unaware of a recent Court of Appeal judgment.
According to him, the thrust of the fresh initiatives, among others, is to promote holistic and modern solutions to the unique environmental challenges confronting the State, while encouraging citizens to voluntarily partner with government to achieve the desired goals.
The Statement said: “After a careful consideration, the State Executive Council has therefore resolved that the present economic climate can no longer support the continued lock down of a mega city like Lagos, when the citizens should be free to engage in commercial and entrepreneurial activities that can promote economic growth and prosperity.
“Furthermore, Government will also accelerate the introduction of fresh reforms through the passage of the new harmonized environmental laws that will drive meaningful changes in areas of harmonized billing, waste management, modern Landfill sites, noise pollution, introduction of an Environmental Trust Fund and an Environmental Advisory Council.
“The Government wishes to reiterate its strong commitment to a clean and secure environment for the benefit of its citizens, and will continue to provide the necessary leadership to meet the environmental challenges of a mega city like Lagos. Lagosians and visitors alike are therefore urged to embrace these changes and imbibe a culture of voluntarily maintaining and preserving their environment to create a beautiful and healthy city that we all can be proud of.”
The statement added that the State Government would henceforth be tougher in ensuring expeditious enforcement against contraventions of its policies and regulations and as such, residents should voluntarily comply with the necessary laws and support government in its bid to have a clean and healthy environment.

Drazeen: I have nothing but love and respect for the Nigerian Police, but this is dumb even for their standard.
This guy was wounded by glass splinters from the window of the driver's door as a result of the shot. That doesn't mean he wasn't shot at. The bullet struck the window (glass) went through the driver's seat and out through the back passenger's door. He only wasn't struck because he leaned towards the steering wheels in the nick of time. From the pictures I can confidently tell he was shot at with a high velocity rifle most likely an AK47. I urge the Nigerian Police Force to investigate this issue and deal appropriately with the rogue officer. As for the victim, move on. I wasn't there but I believe if you were polite he would not shoot at you because Nigerians have this tendency to be abusive, impolite and disrectful to the police. once again I was not there but I from experience am aware how we treat police men in this country.
And as for my fellow Nigerians following this development and insulting the Nigerian Police I just have to let you know that there would be no Nigeria without the Nigerian Police. They are doing a good job holding this volatile country together, so they deserve our love support and respect believe me. You don't have to wait till they save your life or come to ur aid before you realize their importance. They are underpaid and under armed yet they stay up all night to serve while we sleep soundly in our bed.
I am 32yrs old and all my life I have never had a bad encounter with the police even though I have been involved in police cases.

ithink7: My name is Akin. It was Friday 18th Nov 2016. As an IT Consultant, I had to go to Computer Village in search of some IT stuff. After I sent the device to my client via GAT, I stopped over at my friend's office; mma2.
When time came to go home, we drove through Oshodi-Mushin going to Surulere. We just drove past a popular puff-puff place in Mushin when my friend said we could buy some because we were hungry. I said it's not safe to park by the main road, maybe we could enter the Total filling station but there was traffic gridlock as some danfo buses were driving against the confused traffic. I decided to make a right turn by that Total filling station in Mushin maybe we could get a parking space off the road. On coming into another gridlock, we decided to make a U turn.
We almost finished turning, the time should be between 7:30pm and 8:00pm, when two mobile police officers came out of nowhere. Something like RRS boldly written on their black top. One came to my side (driver side) shouting move! move!! pointing his gun at me. I bent my head away from the gun signaling with my hand up in the air that we are trying to make a U turn. Before I could say jack, the man shot right at me in close range. The officer looks drunk. I noticed he took like one step backward and aimed his gun properly at me. He made some kind of “hiss” sound with anger, expressing something like “I will kill this one”. The bullet shattered my driver side glass, brush the top side of my seat close to the head rest, and went through the rear right passenger door, leaving a bullet hole and shattering the glass. All I heard was a loud bang, my left ear deafened and a cold feeling on my left shoulder like blood flow.
I scampered like a terrified rat, climbing every obstacle just to get away from this danger. I noticed the officer stood still with the gun pointing downward and his partner on the passenger side looking in awe after the shot. He seem to express a feeling of “I don kill somebody oh”. Everything happened so fast. I kept driving forward so that we could get to a safe place ASAP. A boy on a bicycle followed us and kept asking “Bros what happened? Are you injured? What did you do to him? There is blood on your shoulder. But I was too terrified to wait. When we got to Bode Thomas, I packed close to Delta kitchen, came out to evaluate the damage. It was then that I realized it was a gun shot.
I went home, parked the car then went straight to Bode Thomas police station. After narrating my story to the officers on duty, they asked me to go report at Mushin police station. I told them I am scared of going back to that area. Up till this moment, the panic of that terrible experience still persist as I am afraid of going out.
Because of the bleeding, I had to go for medical examination to ascertain if it was life threatening. From Jalupon to Randle then transferred to LUTH emergency. I ended up sitting outside in the cold and mosquito from around 10:00pm till 8:00am the following morning. Though the doctors display passion with their job, it seems to be written all over their faces that they are choking of resources and they kept shouting there is no bed to attend to anyone.
The police brought a lady in the morning, her two legs chopped off with a cutlass after a container fell on her legs. It took up to 15 minutes to bring out a bed to lift her from the police vehicle. A doctor I spoke with said they had to go take a bed from the maternity ward. They could not attend to any of us that came on emergency all through the night. Until around 30 minutes later when I left, she was left on the bed. No drip, no first aid, no nothing. She kept begging, “please don’t let me die” They were asking who will pay for her and she kept telling them to take her phone from her bag and call her people, that they will pay. On Sunday, I read in the news the lady died.
Reading the body language of the doctors and the way events were unfolding, I had to go to another hospital where I was eventually treated. The x-ray result showed many tiny opaque objects under the skin. They were able to remove some of the metal and glass object.
Now I am back home thanking God I came back alive. Do I want this issue to die down? I don't think so.
I am using this opportunity to call on the Federal government, the Lagos State government, the IG of Police, the commissioner of police, the DPO in command Mushin area and all stake holders to plead my cause and fish out the perpetrator of this evil attempt on an innocent life. I am crying for justice on behalf of myself and other Nigerians that experience police brutality each day.
I will also add this word of advice, “Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” Prov 14:34. We cannot continue to shed innocent blood and expect God to exalt our nation. The primary responsibility of any government is security of lives and properties and police is the arm of government whose sole responsibility is to enforce the law and not break it nor plunge the nation into thick darkness of God’s anger by shedding innocent blood.
I am also calling on the Federal government and the IG of Police to put in place appropriate mechanism to forestall recurrence of this sought of act by our men in uniform. Many Nigerians lose their life each day to indiscriminate shooting and thirst for blood by some of our officers. I have attached some pictures with this letter.
Please pass on this message on until it gets to the Inspector General of Police (IDRIS KPOTUN IBRAHIM), the Commissioner of Police Lagos State (Fatai Owoseni) and the President. Don't let this lie low . If ur scared of going to mushin ask a lawyer to report on ur Behalf and go to for headquarters and report to d office of the pRO or commissioner and to start with report to the police CRU on whatsaapp and Tagg IG twitter hand and the NPF handles and any of the tv stations handle and see Results.....ambode handles too if possible |
