The police in Kogi State have paraded about 20 suspected criminals for various criminal offences.

Among the suspects are two policemen, Corporal Suleiman Isiaka, Corporal Ibrahim James and one naval officer, Bature Habila who were arrested for kidnapping and armed robbery.

The new Commissioner of Police Mr Ali Janga while parading the suspects at the Headquaters in Lokoja, said the suspects were arrested in various location in the state, while some of them, including the policemen and naval officer were arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping.

He said the policemen have been dismissed immediately.

“They are ex-policemen and naval personnel. They were arrested for kidnapping and armed robbery.

We have tried them and we have dismissed them. They are facing the court as soon as soon as investigation is concluded.”

One of the arrested policemen, former Corpral Isiaka explained how his colleague summoned him to engage in the kidnap while he attributed it to the work of the devil.

The arrested naval officer, Habila however denied knowledge of the crime, noting that he was framed up.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include four AK 47, two beratal pistle, three pump automatic action ammunition, caterages and one smoke pistle, among others.

The family of Chime Amaechi, who was found dead in the same car with Olugbemiga Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Olu, have broken their silence, and claim he may have been poisoned as he or the late DJ Olu weren't drug users..

This was made in an exclusive interview with TheNET..

Chime’s father said;

My late son was not a drug user. Like me he didn’t even drink and when he did, it was always in very small quantities.

He was a level-head, nice human being. Even when he left school and started business, he would always let me know his next line of action, so I am surprised that these lies are being spread about him.

Chime is not that type of person. If you see drug addicts, they don’t think straight most times. Chime is not like that.

Punch had earlier reported that a source told them hard drugs were found in the car, and both Chime and DJ Olu were found bleeding through their noses and mouths.

They also reported that the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Egdar Imohimi, corroborated the story that drugs were found in the car.

But Chime’s father, speaking to NET, said:

I spoke to the DPO of Ikoyi Police Station when I saw the Punch story and he said investigations were still ongoing and there’s no way that can be correct.

They even got the age wrong: they said he’s 25. My son that I gave birth to is just 23. He was 23 in February. We just want justice to be done.

Sopulu Amaechi, Chime’s sister, said she suspects that the two friends were poisoned. She said her brother was not a drug user.

“Chime was not that kind of person, I have seen addicts and I know how they act.

My brother or DJ Olu were definitely not addicts.

You see, addicts are always fidgeting, their account of what they do is not constant. Chime was always coherent. I never suspected his moves because he confided in me.

So how would they say he overdosed on drugs? Nobody is asking for the name of the place they went to eat, neither are they asking if he was poisoned.

I am convinced that this was a case of poisoning or sabotage, because I know my brother,” she said.

She added that she suspected the poisoning is connected to a business deal her brother and DJ Olu were negotiating with the Oyo State Government.

“My belief is that it was something connected to his business. Him and Olu were negotiating a deal with the Oyo State Government and he had just arrived from Ibadan.

The person who reviewed the CCTV footage told us they saw someone drop something in their car and the person left. They should tell us who that person is,” she added.

Nollywood actress, Adesua Etomi, has opened up on her desire to win the coveted Oscars award..

The actress in a recent interview with her alma mater University of Wolverhampton‘s magazine WLV Life, opened up about why she returned to Nigeria after her stay in the UK, what she finds rewarding about acting, and, ultimately, her goals.

Adesua described her experience, studying in the university, as life changing.

She said;

“It is the foundation upon which my career has been built.

The actress had for a long time known she wanted to be in the arts, wanting to be become an actor but also wanting a course that would focus not only on the practical side of the arts, but also on the theoretical side, too.

On moving to Nigeria, Adesua said she had planned, when she left the UK, to stay only for 3 months.

But she arrived in Nigeria and fell in love with the budding film industry, and wanted to be known as one of the people who helped shape it.

Everything boils down to love, she said. Love for the arts, love for Nollywood, and love for Nigeria.


Adesua said her proudest achievement so far has been winning the Best Actress in a Drama award for the movie, “Falling,” at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

Of course, like every other actor, Adesua would love to win an Oscar.

The wedding party star said;

“I would love the opportunity to put Nigeria and the UK on the map,” 

Waking up to a job she loves every single day is the most rewarding part of her job, she added.

London says it won’t renew Uber’s license

Uber’s application for a new licence to operate in London has been rejected on the basis that the company is not a “fit and proper” operator.

The ride hailing app will no longer be able to offer services in their current form within the M25, despite the firm claiming 3.5 million Londoners regularly use its app.

Transport for London (TfL) announced its decision on Friday via its Twitter page


The authority wrote;

“TfL has concluded that Uber London Limited is not fit and proper to hold a private hire operator licence.”

The current licence expires on 30 September but Uber has 21 days to appeal and can continue to operate until that process expires.

Transport for London said that it had rejected the US cab hailing app’s application to renew its licence because “Uber’s approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility” in relation to reporting serious criminal offences, obtaining medical certificates and other issues.

As many as 40,000 Uber drivers will potentially now be forced off the city’s streets. 

Uber is the subject of fierce opposition from the GMB trade union and the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said in a statement:

"I fully support TfL's decision - it would be wrong if TfL continued to license Uber if there is any way that this could pose a threat to Londoners' safety and security."

Ghanaian footballer, Bernard Tekpetey has been banned after he was sent off for his reaction to alleged racist provocation from rival supporters during an Austrian Cup match.
The Austrian league’s disciplinary committee said that Tekpetey, who plays for top-flight club Altach on loan from Germany’s Schalke 04, was handed a two-match ban for unsporting behaviour in the match away to third tier Union Gurten.
However, the committee said in a statement that the second match of the 20-year-old’s ban has been suspended for six months..
Match reports in Austrian media reveal that Tekpetey scored from a free kick in extra-time and then made gestures to Gurten supporters who had been hurling racist insults at him.


The committee recognised that “the player was exposed to provocation and this was taken into account in the judgement”, but it found “no obviously wrong disciplinary decision” by the referee.
Meanwhile, the Austrian federation (OeFB) said it had opened its own case against Union Gurten.
The general secretary Thomas Hollerer in a statement;

“The OeFB strongly condemns, as a basic rule, any form of racism,”

 “Our organisation stands for diversity, tolerance, and integration in all areas.”
Union Gurten confirmed in a statement that the game was;

“briefly interrupted by racist chanting from the public”.

It condemned their behaviour and said it would try to find out who the fans were and ban them from the stadium.
Altach’s sporting director Georg Zellhofer told Austrian media his club would appeal against Tekpetey’s red card. He described the insults as unbelievable.
Tekpetey’s fellow Ghanaian Sulley Muntari was sent off after complaining to a referee and then walking off the field in protest at racist chants during a Serie A match for Pescara at Cagliari last season.
He was given a one-match ban, which was later overturned, while no action was taken against Cagliari on the grounds that only 10 supporters were involved.

The FA are withholding some of the £80,000 owed to Eni Aluko under their confidentiality agreement.
According to Sportsmail, Aluko was paid to keep quiet after she made allegations of bullying, harassment and racism against former England women's manager Mark Sampson.
But only 24 hours after Sampson was sacked for having inappropriate relationships with players in a previous job, the payments due to Aluko have been stopped, raising further concerns about the FA hierarchy.



MP Damian Collins accused the FA of an 'inexcusable' lack of leadership on Thursday.
Recall, last month a financial settlement had been agreed between the FA and Aluko essentially to buy her silence, despite two investigations into claims made by the 102-cap striker apparently clearing Sampson of any wrongdoing.
The FA maintain that the payment was to avoid disruption to the build-up to the European Championship in the summer, and Aluko then responded to the original Sportsmail story by meeting FA officials and requesting permission to speak publicly about the facts of her case.


However, what she subsequently said in a series of interviews now appears to be central to ongoing discussions between the governing body and Aluko's lawyers, and the money is being withheld as a result.
On Thursday night both the FA and Aluko declined to comment.

Italian giants Juventus have been hit by the tragic death of a youngster at one of their training camps.

The Italian club’s juniors were training in New York when nine-year-old Tommaso Cerase tragically lost his life.

According to reports, authorities are investigating the incident after a goal fell onto the youngster to cause the heartbreaking loss.

Calcio Mercato revealed the devastating news that the death was at a Juve academy in New York.

Cerase, who lives in the Upper West Side of the Big Apple, was participating in a training camp day for the Serie A giants.

It is also claimed that his mother, Barbara Riccardi, was present for the horrific accident.

The youngster was rushed to the Roosevelt Hospital as medics battled to save his life.

However, despite their best efforts, they were ultimately in vain.

An Ohio fire department has suspended one of its volunteer firefighters for a racist Facebook post suggesting he’d prefer to save a dog in an emergency than a black person.

The volunteer for Franklin Township, identified as Tyler Roysdon, wrote that if he had to choose between saving a dog or a black man from a burning building, the dog would get priority, because “one dog is more important than a million n****rs.”

Roysdon has since removed the post from his Facebook page, but a screenshot appears below.

Once the township officials discovered the post, Roysdon was suspended indefinitely, according to local station WHIO-TV.

They then released an official statement about Roysdon on Thursday, confirming that he was suspended until the township’s board of trustees can meet to determine his fate:

“Recently, a Franklin Township volunteer firefighter posted unacceptable remarks on social media. Upon gaining knowledge of this information, Fire Chief Steve Bishop immediately contacted the firefighter and directed the comments be removed. The firefighter was suspended without pay until the Board of Township Trustees could meet to determine a course of action. Chief Bishop does not have the authority to terminate employees. Termination of any township employee requires a vote by the Board of Trustees.”

According to HuffPost, who reached out to Roysdon, he did not immediately respond.

A woman who identified herself as Joei Frame Roysdon told WXIX-TV that she was Roysdon’s wife and said;
“He admitted that he said things that were wrong and apologized.”

She added: “Everyone deserves a second chance and is also entitled to their own opinion.”

A 63 year old woman, Halimah Yacob has been declared Singapore’s eighth president on Wednesday after a “walkover” election that saw no vote after no other contenders ran for the position.

Yacob, had been the only candidate deemed eligible to stand in the country’s Elections Department, having held a key public position as speaker of parliament for three years.

The other two contenders, Salleh Marican and Farid Khan, were both denied eligibility, having fallen short of a constitutional rule that required any candidate from the private sector to have led a company with shareholder equity of at least 500 million Singapore dollars (372 million dollars).

Following the announcement, Yacob thanked her supporters in a speech, calling it a “a proud moment for Singapore, for multiculturalism and multi-racialism.”

Yacob is Singapore’s first Malay president in 47 years and the first woman to occupy the president’s office.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has warned those linking him to calls by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, saying people of Anambra State should boycott the upcoming governorship election in the state.

Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDemott has taken to social media to announce the passing of her brother, Uvie Eseoghene Ejenobor.

Writing on her Instagram today, the actress revealed that Uvie battled kidney disease for a protracted period and sadly died yesterday, Monday September 11, after much struggles with the pains.

She wrote;

No questions asked oh Lord. I don't understand it but I trust you. My picture hating brother; Uvie Eseoghene Ejenobor passed away on 9/11 2017.

I wish I could blame someone or something but it was simply his time. Thank you for your prayers and concern. He has gone to be with the Lord. He fought. He fought hard but the pains were stronger.

President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday paid a brief visit to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

The Ghanaian President was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama.

Addressing a press conference after the visit, President Akufo-Addo noted that;

“all of us have been very anxious about his (President Buhari) well-being.
"It was very good news to hear that he had returned. We are Africans, and it meant that I had to come and see things for myself.”

He added that he is;

“very delighted to see that he has come back, and is very vigorous, and, as always, very engaged in the issues of the day.

We had a good half an hour together; reviewing matters, both in Ghana and Nigeria, as well as matters to do with what is going on in the ECOWAS community.”
The two Heads-of-State also discussed matters bordering on the rapid expansion and growth of their respective economies, and the fight against terrorism on the continent and in the world.

They also reiterated their commitment towards strengthening the ties of friendship that exist between the two countries during their respective tenures of office, and in the years ahead.
The visit by President Akufo-Addo is the second visit paid to the Nigerian President by a foreign Head of State, following his return from London after his three-month medical leave.

The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Zaki, on Monday paraded the rearrested Ifeanyi Dike, who allegedly murdered his eight-year-old niece, Victory Chikamso Nmezuwuba, for rituals.

He was paraded at the State Command in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, before a crowd of onlookers who were eager to catch a glimpse of the suspect.

Recall, Dike was caught by a local vigilance group during a failed attempt to dispose the body of Chikamso after removing some body parts, including her eyes and tongue.

The suspect escaped while in police custody, but was rearrested in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday by a team of policemen.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) on Monday commenced the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) screening for no fewer than 64,000 candidates seeking admissions there for the 2017/2018 academic session.

The deputy director, corporate affairs department of the university, Kunle Akogun, told NAN in Ilorin that 104,000 candidates applied for the screening.

He said that only 11,000 successful candidates would be admitted into the various programmes of the institution after the exercise based on its capacity.

Akogun told NAN that the university’s cut-off mark had been pegged at 180 as the minimum.

He said that every department was expected to come up with its own cut-off mark.

According to him, the university is known for its stable academic calendar, making it the most sought after in the country.

He said that the administration of the vice-chancellor designate would continue to uphold the virtues and standards of the university.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday dismissed the suit by Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, challenging the validity the process of recalling him by his constituents.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, in his judgement, ordered that the Independent National Electoral Commission “shall proceed with the recall process”.

According to reports, the judgement effectively terminated the earlier ex parte order made by another judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice John Tsoho, on July 6, 2017, directing parties to maintain status quo.

But the Justice Dimgba, to whom the case was reassigned, ordered that the process shall only proceed with the recall process, subject to the service of the petition, the full list and signatures of persons in support of the recall process.

The judge noted that the 90 days period within which the Constitution ordered the INEC to conduct a referendum on receiving the recall petition had been paused since June 23, when Melaye commenced the suit.

He ordered that the period would only continue running from Monday.
But he ordered INRC to issue an amended recall timetable giving the senator a minimum of two weeks to equip him to defend against the recall process.
He ordered that the amended timetable should be served on Melaye.

In his judgment, Justice Dimgba held that contrary to Melaye’s contention, there was no provision in section 69 of the Constitution requiring his constituents to afford him fair hearing before sending such petition to INEC.

Justice Dimgba also admitted that although the Constitution did not expressly provide that the INEC must serve the affected legislator with the petition and the accompanying documents, it was required in the spirit of fair hearing so that the legislator could be equipped to fight the recall.

The judge described Melaye’s suit as “hasty, premature and presumptuous” as the INEC had already scheduled the exercise for the verification of the authenticity of the signatures in support of the petition being complained about by Melaye.

“He must first go into the verification exercise and only when he does not get justice that he can come to court,” Justice Dimgba ruled.

The judge also dismissed the argument that the the number signatures ‎did not meet the threshold stipulated in the Constitution.

He insisted that on the face of the statistical analysis accompanying the suit, the number of signatures to kick start the recall process in the Kogi West senatorial district was 188, 588 out of the 360,100 ‎registered voters in the district, had been met.

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and his counterpart in Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa and a former governor of the Delta State, James Ibori, have called on Niger Delta leaders to unite for the speedy development of the zone.

Wike said that unity was needed in the zone to check the current situation where outsiders took advantage of the disunity of the zone to deny the people the benefits of their resources.

The governor, who is also the Co-chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee, spoke on Saturday in Oghara, Delta State, during a meeting with Ibori and Okowa at the former governor’s residence.

Wike was accompanied on the visit to Oghara by a former Acting Chairman of PDP, Mr. Uche Secondus, a former Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and Administrator, Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Mr. Desmond Akawor, among others.

The governor said;

“Niger Delta must continue to be united. Whatever it takes, unity is still very key. When we are divided, outsiders will come and exploit our resources to the disadvantage of our communities.

“We have to fight to protect the interest of the Niger Delta. We draw strength from people like former governor James Ibori, a man who has variegated experiences.”

Wike said Rivers and Delta states were cooperating in the spirit of Niger Delta development, saying;

“We must work as brothers; we must work as a team. We must not allow our united front to be divided.”

In his welcome remarks, Ibori commended Wike and Okowa for their cooperation on developmental issues, urging them to work towards building a stronger united force for all the Niger Delta states.

Ibori said;

“We need to be united to be able to serve our people better. We have to cooperate for the good of our people.”

He commended the developmental efforts of the Rivers State Governor, urging him to sustain his projects delivery.

Also speaking, Okowa, described Wike as a grass-roots politician, who had been providing effective leadership to his people.

He said that in Delta State, the political class was under a political family led by Ibori, adding that the Niger Delta needed to work together for the zone to be a stronger political voice in the country.

On August 14, 2017, the housewife who had nursed a full-term pregnancy, was delivered of a baby boy in her home at Gakerko village, Keana Local Government area of Nasarawa State, but the joy of her husband, Paul Fagal, aged 40, evaporated shortly after.

Though the couple, peasant farmers, earlier had two children in their 14 years of marriage, the arrival of the new baby lifted the drowning soul of his father who had been toiling over the years, albeit with difficulty, to fend for his family.

Help from the devil

Unknown to Paul, his wife had been suffocating as they laboured for survival in their years of wedlock and was waiting on the devil for help.

Acting on the instruction of a herbalist, she discreetly took the infant to a secluded area of the community shortly after birth and killed him. Then, she took his blood in a clay pot and dumped the remains in a nearby stream.

But the bubble burst as the sudden disappearance of the baby aroused apprehension in the community, amid suspicion that the mother from hell might have committed sacrilege. After summoning all the women in the community for interrogation, a threat by the village head, Mathew Oloko, to further conduct orthodox and traditional probe into the incident, unveiled Kwaseve as the perpetrator of the dastardly act.

Police steps in

She eventually led a search party to a stream where the decomposed body of the baby was recovered, but kept sealed lips on the motive for the act till she was arrested and taken away by the police.

However, in a chanced encounter with our correspondent at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State police command where she is in custody, she told a shocking tale of the circumstances that led her into killing her child to shake off the shackles of poverty.

She had been troubled over her husband’s inability to overcome poverty despite the fact that they toiled daily to make ends meet. Rather than reprieve, the situation worsened to a point that putting food on the table became a difficult task. Sometimes, the family stayed for days without food, and despair set in.

Her story

Faced with gloom, she accepted the devil’s alternative when herbalist in the community she identified as Alhaji Abass Loko, gave her hope. Kwaseve was six months pregnant when he offered her help, which she grabbed pleasantly, even though the price was her unborn baby.

She narrated;

“Life became very difficult for my husband and I, to a point that having food daily became a problem, not to talk of catering for the two children we already had.

The kids were not feeding well; we go hungry for days because we don’t have money to buy food.

Though we are farmers, things didn’t just work well for us. That was why when the baba (Alhaji Loko), who hails from Kaduna State approached me with an offer to lift the burden of abject poverty, I gladly accepted”,

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has urged Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbe to step down “unless he has something new” to offer.

The opposition in the country has continued to call for the resignation of the President who has ruled for 12 years.

The opposition also staged protests demanding for a constitutional reform, which would limit the term of a President.

In an interview with BBC, Obasanjo said he believes the Togolese president;

“must have exhausted whatever ideas he has”.

“I believe that President Gnassingbe will have to do something about it (the protests),” he said.

“I believe they should have a new constitution that will have a limit to the number of terms anybody can be president and he should abide by that.

“I [also] believe whatever he has to do in terms of development, whatever ideas he has, he must have exhausted them by now. Unless he has something new that we don’t know.

“After twelve to fifteen years, some of them (African leaders) up to thirty…and maybe, if you don’t leave office, office will leave you.”

Few days back, reports emerged that 2006 Gulder Ultimate Search Winner, Hector Joberteh, was assassinated by unknown gunmen who reportedly shot him at close range and sadly it was true..

According to reports, the unknown gunmen traced him from Murtala Mohammed International Airport where he had gone to pick up his younger brother, to his home at New Oko-Aba, Agege area of Lagos.

Now, a neighbour who spoke with LIB revealed the deceased’s father was also shot in the hand and that Hector could have survived had he received timely medical attention.

He said;

“It happened around 7.05 to 7.20am. I was preparing to go to church so I went to the bathroom to have my bath and I got to realize that my bathroom was dark so I decided to shift the curtain.

So I saw two men walking. I poured water on my body and then I heard a gunshot. When I heard the gunshot I asked my friend in my room what the sound was. He said it wasn’t in the compound. Then I continued having my bath. I had the second gunshot and I ran out of the bathroom.

My Friend now said it was a robbery attack.

Someone came in and told me that the men have taken my sister along. So I ran out but I realized that I was not putting on a towel. I ran back into my room to put on my boxers. I came out and met my sister outside. She is asthmatic. She was already having an attack. I was scared and I tried to calm her. She told me that they shot somebody upstairs. So I ran upstairs.

Getting upstairs, we tried to rescue him (Hector). We brought him downstairs and rushed him to the hospital. When we got to the hospital, he wasn’t dead. He had no quick response.

They shot him and his father. He was shot on his right chest while his father was shot in his hand. He wasn’t dead before we got to the hospital but he never had a quick response. So that was when he gave up”.

The neighbor continued;

“The police at Oko Oba division responded immediately when they heard of the incident but it was late already when they came. We were preparing to take him to the morgue when they came”.
