Properties › Re: Landlord Sold House Before My Rent Expired by Celestialsword: 8:31am On Jul 15, 2025 |
Cheny00: Hello Nairalanders,
I need your advice urgently.
I rented a self-contained apartment in Lagos, and my rent is valid until the end of October this year. Just recently, I was informed that the landlord has sold the house.
Now here’s what happened: • They refunded half of my rent (without my prior agreement), • And issued me a 3-month notice to vacate.
I never agreed to terminate my tenancy early or to receive a refund — they just gave me the money and served the notice. I feel like I’m being indirectly forced out before the agreed expiration date of my rent.
Please, I want to know: 1. Is this legal under Lagos tenancy law? 2. Can they harass or pressure me out of the house since it’s now sold? 3. What steps can I take if I want to stay until my rent expires in October?
I’ve heard that once rent is paid and acknowledged, even a new landlord must honour the agreement. Is this true?
Please, lawyers and those familiar with Lagos tenancy law, I’d appreciate your input. I don’t want to be bullied or treated unfairly and also 3 months is too short for me
Thanks in advance! yes, you can only leave when your rent expire, and must be given at least six months to vacate. |

Nobody is willing to earn it; Rather, everyone is trying to demand and cajole others into giving it to them. Even those that have worked hard to be given respect doesn't gets it, Could you give an example on things you do that will earn you respect |

Kobojunkie: What about the terrible parents of the past who raised the terrible children of the past who have now become mothers? Are they not the elders of todaywhose grandchildren have no real regard or respect for?
It is easy to blame the current generation while conveniently ignoring the fact that the problem started long ago with those you consider your elders, the ones who failed to stand up for their rights as individuals and those of their children. Respect is best when earned, not demanded. You don't earn respect in Nigeria, you demand it through various means |

NewHe: So what should Tinubu do according to Atiku? Or are we running a unitary system of government! This is not about the type of economic system Nigeria is practicing. Atiku said the removal of fuel subsidy brought so much hardship in the country. All the promises made by the government to cushion it's effects like the increase in minimum wage were never fulfilled. As you read this, many federal parastatals haven't received the promised minimum wage, infact some of them are owed three months salaries. What is the government doing with the subsidy money plus external loan taken, crude oil sales, and all these new tax regime imposed on the masses. Atiku want them to pay wages that can cushion the effects of the hardship brought about by the fuel subsidy removal and other wrong and ill timed policies |

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)
Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
Nigeria Fire Service (NFS)
Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS)
But my main interest is between the Nigeria Civil Defence corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Immigration service (NIS). so please I need your honest review , Which of the job is better in terms of pay, good working environment, career enhancements and other benefits? Nigeria immigration service has more prospect of growth and development. And in terms of work hazards, the other three is far ahead of the first one |

The Light in the Dark Room
--- The night in Lagos was noisy as usual—generators humming, hawkers shouting, danfo buses honking—but inside Nonso’s apartment, it was silent. Too silent. He lay on his back in bed, eyes wide open, battling the shame that seemed to crawl on his skin.
He had just fallen again. Again.
His fingers still tingled from what he had done with his phone. His conscience screamed. His heart ached.
He turned to the wall and whispered, “God, why? Why can’t I stop this thing?”
Nonso had given his life to Christ two years earlier, during a crusade held in Surulere. He was the first in his family to truly pursue God. He joined the ushering department, even led prayers in youth meetings. On the outside, he looked like a model believer.
But deep inside, he was bound.
Ever since he stumbled upon pornography during secondary school through a friend’s memory card, it had become a silent chain around his life. What began as innocent curiosity turned into a late-night habit. Masturbation followed. Now, even after being born again, the temptation still returned—especially at night, especially when he was alone.
He had fasted. He had cried. He had even smashed an old phone once in anger. Yet the struggle persisted.
That night, he scrolled mindlessly on Instagram until a short video caught his attention. It was a preacher’s voice:
“Your body is not a playground for lust. It is the temple of the Holy Ghost. Let the Word of God dwell richly in you, and you will overcome.”
Nonso froze. That verse sounded familiar. He opened his Bible app and found it—1 John 2:14:
“…because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.”
He read it again.
“You are strong... the Word abides in you… overcome the wicked one.”
Suddenly, it dawned on him. He had been trying to fight the darkness without light. He had tried emotions, fear, guilt—but never the daily discipline of letting God’s Word abide in him.
He whispered a new kind of prayer: “Jesus, I’ve tried to stop on my own, but I need You. Let Your Word live in me. I surrender this struggle to You.”
From that day forward, Nonso changed his strategy.
He began each morning not with WhatsApp or news updates—but with the Bible. He joined an online accountability group for young Christian men struggling with purity. He filled his nights with worship instead of silence. He stopped feeding the flesh and began feeding his spirit
Some days were still hard. But something had shifted—his desire was changing. The Word was working.
Weeks turned into months.
Then one evening, during a men’s fellowship gathering, the coordinator unexpectedly asked, “Who here has a testimony of deliverance?”
Nonso stood up slowly.
“My name is Nonso. I used to live a double life—holy on Sunday, bound in secret the rest of the week. But Jesus set me free. Not through fear or punishment—but through the power of His Word. I now live in the light, and the darkness has lost its grip.”
There was a holy silence in the room. Some men had tears in their eyes.
After the meeting, three young men approached him quietly. “Please,” one said, “can we talk? I’ve been fighting the same battle.”
And just like that, Nonso became a light for others—because he allowed the Word to live in him.
--- *Reflections:*
Addiction thrives in darkness, but the Word of God brings light. When you allow the Word to *abide* in you—not just visit—you gain power over every sinful habit. You are not alone. In Christ, you are strong, and you *have* overcome the wicked one.
*Purityland Confessions*: I'm graced to live above the lust of the flesh and the eyes, in the Name of Jesus. It's okay, you will outgrown it soonest. It's just a phase |
Jokes Etc › Re: Loan Apps To Avoid In Nigeria – How They Use Your BVN For Fraud by Celestialsword: 1:57pm On Jul 13, 2025 |
Damilareshakur: If you’ve ever used any loan app on your phone, you need to read this carefully. I got some crucial info to share today.
First, if the loan app you used isn’t on the list below, you might be in trouble down the line. This list includes only the loan apps that adhere to CBN directives, have verified physical offices, and are approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria:
1. Carbon
2. FairMoney
3. Branch
4. Renmoney
5. Aella
These guys are legit—you can even sue them if need be because they operate from an actual office and follow proper regulations.
But for the other loan apps, especially those not available on the Play Store and without a verifiable office address… watch out, bros and sis. By using those, you may have unknowingly submitted your personal information to shady operators.
Here’s what could happen:
Your BVN might be used to create virtual accounts that could be linked to money laundering or fraud.
You might end up with unknown accounts or loans taken in your name, with banks you’ve never even heard of!
So, if any of you suspect that you have been using one of these unapproved apps, I strongly advise you to visit your bank immediately. Get them to check all the accounts linked to your BVN via the NIBBS portal. Don’t wait for any kasala to burst—you need to know your status now.
Remember, ignorance of the law is no excuse!
Stay safe and share this with anyone using loan apps outside the approved list. Let’s help each other avoid unnecessary trouble. This is not how to promote a business by running others down. So among the hundreds of loan apps in Nigeria, these five are the only credible ones that are registered with CBN You can do better, people in this forum are not fools |

Education › Re: From Wig To Skit: A Silent Crisis In The Legal Profession". by Celestialsword: 6:11am On Jul 13, 2025 |
TechBoss65: One of my brothers made a post yesterday that hit deeper than most realize. He simply emphasized how lawyers are transiting "From Wig to Skit: A Silent Crisis in the Legal Profession".
He said, “5,000+ called to bar… get ready for more content creators.”
We laughed. But I couldn’t shake off the weight of it. Because underneath that joke is a crisis—one that we’re all pretending not to see.
In a country where it takes 7–8 years (and sometimes more) to become a lawyer, it's tragic that many of our brightest legal minds are abandoning the courtrooms and contracts for comedy skits and influencer deals.
It’s not that content creation is wrong—far from it. But when the system is so broken that people invest close to a decade in education only to pivot into trends that require none of that training, we need to pause and ask:
What are we doing to the profession? What are we doing to justice? What are we doing to society?
Even worse, we now face another dilemma—people with criminal intent earning legal badges. Not to uphold the law, but to hide behind it. When law loses its honour, society loses its compass.
But here’s the shift I want to encourage: Instead of throwing your law degree into the ocean of virality, how about pouring it into innovation?
LawTech.
JusticeTech.
Legal operations.
Contract automation.
Rights protection platforms.
Case management systems.
There’s so much to build, so much to fix.
If you're a legal professional with an idea—or if you want to explore how to apply your legal knowledge in the tech, civic, or impact space—let’s talk.
I’m passionate about helping people turn ideas into real, scalable solutions. Africa doesn’t just need more lawyers or more content. It needs legal builders and justice innovators.
Your law degree is not a waste. Let’s put it to work.
