Foreign AffairsWhy Are Iran And Turkey Moving To Condemn Israel's Role In Syria? by Celestialsword(op): 9:31am On Dec 11, 2024
Iran and Turkey, as well as media and commentators linked to both countries, are seeking to condemn Israel for its recent bombing of Syrian military sites. They are also condemning Israel for its operations in a buffer zone on the Golan.

The IDF seized the buffer zone and the peak of Mount Hermon after the Syrian regime collapsed on December 8. The IDF has also struck various threats in Syria, such as warplanes and naval vessels so that they do not fall into the hands of enemies.

Why are Iran, Turkey and other countries and groups associated with them seeking to condemn Israel? They want to try to deflect from what is going on in Syria and their own role in the country. Iran has backed militias smuggling weapons in Syria and Turkey illegally occupies a large part of northern Syria. Turkey has carried out numerous airstrikes in northern Syria, targeting Kurdish groups. Turkish-backed militias have also filmed themselves kidnapping women and killing civilians.

These militias, part of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army, have been murdering and kidnapping people in northern Syria for years, usually under the umbrella of protection by Turkish armed forces.

It is interesting how quickly Iran, Turkey and also voices in Qatar have mobilized to single out Israel for critique regarding Syria. They appear to be positioning themselves to back the new authorities in Damascus and they want to urge the new emerging Syrian government to condemn Israel.

IRNA in Iran, a state media publication, ran numerous articles on December 10 slamming Israel. One article said that Hezbollah had “denounced” Israel’s “invasion” of the Golan Heights.

“The statement emphasized that the hostile invasion of Syrian territory, along with continued violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon and incursions into the Gaza Strip, present a significant threat to regional nations, highlighting the necessity for unity and collective condemnation of the aggressions,” the report said.

Iran condemned Israel officially. “Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei Hamaneh strongly condemned the Zionist regime's repeated encroachment on Syrian infrastructure and the occupation of other parts of the Syrian Golan,” a second report said.

A third report said that “Zionist warplanes” had attacked Syria. The goal of these reports is to pressure the Syrian rebel groups who took over Damascus from Assad to condemn Israel. The goal of Iran and Turkey is to create tension. Doha, which backs Hamas, likely also wants to distract from Hamas crimes in Gaza. Doha recently hosted the Doha Forum where countries such as Iran, Turkey and Russia discussed the future of Syria. They understood Assad was finished, and now they want to angle to take advantage.

Meanwhile, Al-Arabiya also reported about Turkey slamming Israel. “The Turkish foreign ministry said on Tuesday that it strongly condemned Israel’s entry into the buffer zone between Israel and Syria and its advance into Syrian territory,” the report said. “Israel is once again displaying its occupation mentality,” Turkey’s foreign ministry said in a statement. Turkey is trying to become a power broker in Syria. Turkey invaded Afrin in northern Syria in 2018 and ethnically cleansed it of Kurds, moving militias into the area.

Later Turkey also invaded another area in Syria in 2019, effectively controlling around half of the border areas of northern Syria, including areas with hundreds of thousands of Syrians. When the Syrian rebels moved to oust Assad, Turkey ordered militias to attack the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, a mostly Kurdish group. Turkey has used the power vacuum in Syria to attack Kurds. Israel has expressed support for Kurds in Syria. Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar posted a message on December 10 saying “the attacks on Kurds must stop.”

On December 9 Sa’ar said that in a briefing to foreign “I emphasized the importance of protecting minorities in Syria. The attacks on the Kurds, as we saw yesterday in Manbij, must stop! We are discussing this with our friends in the U.S. administration and other countries. The international community has a moral obligation toward those who fought bravely against ISIS and are also a stabilizing force in Syria.”

Qatar has also slammed Israel and it appears that many commentators who are linked to Doha are being mobilized to highlight Israel’s activity in Syria. “The State of Qatar strongly condemns the Israeli occupation's seizure of the buffer zone with the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic and the neighboring leadership sites, considering it a dangerous development and a blatant attack on Syria's sovereignty and unity, as well as a flagrant violation of international law,” Doha said on December 9.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar said that it “warns that the policy of imposing a fait accompli pursued by the Israeli occupation, including its attempts to occupy Syrian territories, will lead the region to further violence and tension. In this context, The Ministry stresses the need for the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to compel the occupation to comply with international legitimacy resolutions, as well as to unite in confronting its opportunistic schemes.”

Foreign AffairsIsraeli Warplanes Pound Syria As Troops Reportedly Advance Deeper Into The Count by Celestialsword(op): 4:00pm On Dec 10, 2024
Israel carried out a wave of heavy airstrikes across Syria as its troops advanced deeper into the country, a Syrian opposition war monitor said Tuesday. Israel denied its forces were advancing toward Damascus after they pushed into a buffer zone inside Syria following the overthrow of President Bashar Assad.

Associated Press reporters in the capital heard heavy airstrikes overnight and into Tuesday on the city and its suburbs. Photographs circulating online showed destroyed missile launchers, helicopters and warplanes.

There was no immediate comment from the insurgent groups — led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS – that have taken control of much of the country. Their lightning advance brought an end to the Assad family’s half-century rule after nearly 14 years of civil war. There are concerns over what comes next.

Life in the capital is slowly returning to normal after the overthrow of Assad, who fled the country over the weekend and has been granted political asylum in Russia.

Private banks reopened on instructions from the Central Bank, said Sadi Ahmad, who runs a branch in the upscale Abu Rummaneh neighborhood. He said all his employees returned to work.

Shops also reopened in the city's ancient Hamidiyeh market, where armed men and civilians could be seen buying things like perfume and ice cream. A clothing shop owner, who asked not to be named for fear of retribution, said he hoped vendors would no longer have to pay bribes to security officials.

“Damascus is more beautiful now," said Maysoun Qurabi, who was shopping in the market. “It has a soul, and people feel at ease and secure.” Under Assad, she said, “people were hungry and scared. The regime was strong."

Israeli incursion draws condemnation

In the immediate aftermath of Assad's fall, Israeli forces moved into a roughly 400-square-kilometer (155-square-mile) buffer zone inside Syria that had been established after the 1973 Mideast war, a move it said was taken to prevent attacks on its citizens.

Israel has also said it is striking suspected chemical weapons sites and heavy weapons to prevent them from falling into the hands of extremists. Israeli officials rarely acknowledge individual strikes.

Israel has a long history of seizing territory during wars with its neighbors and occupying it indefinitely, citing security concerns. Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it in a move not recognized internationally, except by the United States.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has closely tracked the conflict since the civil war erupted in 2011, said Israel has carried out more than 300 airstrikes across the country since the rebels overthrew Assad.

The Observatory, and Beirut-based Mayadeen TV, which has reporters in Syria, said Israeli troops are advancing up the Syrian side of the border with Lebanon and had come within 25 kilometers (15 miles) of Damascus, which the Israeli military denied.

Israel denies advancing toward Damascus

Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, an Israeli military spokesperson, said “the reports circulating in the media about the alleged advancement of Israeli tanks towards Damascus are false.” He said Israeli troops are stationed within the buffer zone in order to protect Israel.

Israel's military had previously said troops would enter the buffer zone “and several other places necessary for its defense.”

Israeli media meanwhile reported that the air force was methodically destroying Syria's military assets to ensure whoever rules the country next would have to rebuild them.

The operations “have been systematically destroying all that remains of the escaped tyrant’s military,” wrote Yossi Yehoshua, the military correspondent for Israel's largest daily, Yediot Ahronot.

“Dozens upon dozens of targets, including arms depots of various kinds, have been hit in waves of attacks so as to prevent them from falling into hostile hands and from posing a threat to Israel." The air force “currently enjoys complete freedom of action,” he added.

Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia have condemned Israel’s incursion, accusing it of exploiting the disarray in Syria and violating international law.

Turkey, which has been a main backer of the Syrian opposition to Assad, also condemned Israel’s advance. The Turkish Foreign Ministry accused Israel of“displaying a mentality of an occupier” at a time when the possibility of peace and stability had emerged in Syria.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric on Monday said Israel's incursion constitutes a violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement and called on both Israel and Syria to uphold it.

Mike Tyson, who was reportedly offered $700 million from a Saudi Royal, is facing legal action for allegedly breaking a promotional agreement.
Mike Tyson, who was reportedly offered $700 million from a Saudi Royal, is facing legal action for allegedly breaking a promotional agreement with a gambling corporation to fight YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

According to FTTV Boxing, Turki Alalshikh, the head of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, offered the huge amount to Tyson if he convincingly defeats Paul in a knockout win in three minutes.

“Jake Paul is a joke. I am giving Mike Tyson $700 million if he agrees to fight Jake Paul this time in a real fight and wins by KO in a maximum of three minutes,” Alalshikh stated.

Paul defeated the famed boxer last month in a highly anticipated bout that aired live on Netflix to millions of spectators worldwide.

While the bout was deemed as a lackluster event that was allegedly staged, Tyson might have the opportunity to make amends with a "real fight" after receiving a very generous offer.

Mile Tyson accused of breaking January contract
UK-based Medier, which promotes online casino and betting provider Rabona, has accused Tyson and his firm Tyrannic of violating a January contract in March when the Netflix special was announced. Medier has claimed that the deal was broken due to a scheduling dispute.

In contrast, the suit filed in October in London asserts that Tyson cost Medier a significant loss of around $1.59 million (1.5 million euros).

“The true reason for Mr. Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr. Tyson had agreed [to] a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul,” the firm's attorney wrote in documents published on Friday.

In response, Tyson's aides issued a statement to The Post.

“It is the company’s position that Medier, Ltd. materially breached the terms of its license agreement on multiple occasions and in various ways. As such, Tyrannic, LLC was well within its legal and contractual rights to terminate the license agreement for material breach

Foreign AffairsSyrian Government Appears To Have Fallen In Stunning End To Long Rule Of Assad by Celestialsword(op): 9:37am On Dec 08, 2024
The Syrian government appeared to have fallen early Sunday in a stunning end to the 50-year rule of the Assad family after a lightning rebel offensive.

The head of a Syrian opposition war monitor said President Bashar Assad had left the country for an undisclosed location, fleeing ahead of insurgents who said they had entered Damascus after a remarkably swift advance across the country.

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali said the government was ready to "extend its hand" to the opposition and hand over its functions to a transitional government.

Syrian opposition forces enter the key city of Hama, in a new blow to Assad's regime
"I am in my house and I have not left, and this is because of my belonging to this country," Jalili said in a video statement. He said he would go to his office to continue work in the morning and called on Syrian citizens not to deface public property.

He did not address reports that Assad had left the country.

Rami Abdurrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told The Associated Press that Assad took a flight Sunday from Damascus.

State television in Iran, Assad's main backer in the years of war in Syria, reported that Assad had left the capital. It cited Qatar's Al Jazeera news network for the information and did not elaborate.

There was no immediate statement from the Syrian government.

An Associated Press journalist in Damascus reported seeing groups of armed residents along the road in the outskirts of the capital and hearing sounds of gunshots. The city's main police headquarters appeared to be abandoned, its door left ajar with no officers outside. Another AP journalist shot footage of an abandoned army checkpoint where uniforms were discarded on the ground under a poster of Assad's face.

Residents of the capital reported hearing gunfire and explosions. Footage broadcast on opposition-linked media showed a tank in one of the capital's central squares while a small group of people gathered in celebration. Calls of "God is great" rang out from mosques.

It was the first time opposition forces had reached Damascus since 2018, when Syrian troops recaptured areas on the outskirts of the capital following a yearslong siege.

The pro-government Sham FM radio reported that the Damascus airport had been evacuated and all flights halted.

The insurgents also announced they had entered the notorious Saydnaya military prison north of the capital and "liberated" their prisoners there.

The night before, opposition forces took the central city of Homs, Syria's third largest, as government forces abandoned it. The city stands at an important intersection between Damascus, the capital, and Syria's coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus — the Syrian leader's base of support and home to a Russian strategic naval base.

The rebels had already seized the cities of Aleppo and Hama, as well as large parts of the south, in a lightning offensive that began Nov. 27. Analysts said rebel control of Homs would be a game-changer.

The rebels' moves into Damascus came after the Syrian army withdrew from much of southern part of the country, leaving more areas, including several provincial capitals, under the control of opposition fighters.

The fall of Damascus would leave government forces in control of only two of 14 provincial capitals: Latakia and Tartus.

The advances in the past week were by far the largest in recent years by opposition factions, led by a group that has its origins in al-Qaida and is considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the United Nations. In their push to overthrow Assad's government, the insurgents, led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, or HTS, have met little resistance from the Syrian army.

The rapid rebel gains, coupled with the lack of support from Assad's erstwhile allies, posed the most serious threat to his rule since the start of the war.

The U.N.'s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, called Saturday for urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an "orderly political transition." Speaking to reporters at the annual Doha Forum in Qatar, he said the situation in Syria was changing by the minute. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, whose country is Assad's chief international backer, said he feels "sorry for the Syrian people."

In Damascus, people rushed to stock up on supplies. Thousands went to Syria's border with Lebanon, trying to leave the country. Lebanese border officials closed the main Masnaa border crossing late Saturday, leaving many stuck waiting.

Many shops in the capital were shuttered, a resident told The Associated Press, and those still open ran out of staples such as sugar. Some were selling items at three times the normal price.

The U.N. said it was moving noncritical staff outside the country as a precaution.

Assad's status
Syria's state media denied social media rumors that Assad left the country, saying he was performing his duties in Damascus.

He has had little, if any, help from his allies. Russia is busy with its war in Ukraine. Lebanon's Hezbollah, which at one point sent thousands of fighters to shore up Assad's forces, has been weakened by a yearlong conflict with Israel. Iran has seen its proxies across the region degraded by regular Israeli airstrikes.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday posted on social media that the United States should avoid engaging militarily in Syria. Separately, President Joe Biden's national security adviser said the Biden administration had no intention of intervening there.

Pedersen said a date for talks in Geneva on the implementation of a U.N. resolution, adopted in 2015 and calling for a Syrian-led political process, would be announced later. The resolution calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body, followed by the drafting of a new constitution and ending with U.N.-supervised elections.

Insurgents reach gates of Syria’s capital, threatening to upend decades of Assad rule
Later Saturday, foreign ministers and senior diplomats from eight key countries, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Egypt, Turkey and Iran, along with Pederson, gathered on the sidelines of the Doha Summit to discuss the situation in Syria.

In a statement, the participants affirmed their support for a political solution to the Syrian crisis "that would lead to the end of military activity and protect civilians."

The insurgents' march
A commander with the insurgents, Hassan Abdul-Ghani, posted on the Telegram messaging app that opposition forces had begun the "final stage" of their offensive by encircling Damascus.

HTS controls much of northwest Syria and in 2017 set up a "salvation government" to run day-to-day affairs in the region. In recent years, HTS leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani has sought to remake the group's image, cutting ties with al-Qaida, ditching hard-line officials and vowing to embrace pluralism and religious tolerance.

The shock offensive began Nov. 27, during which gunmen captured the northern city of Aleppo, Syria's largest, and the central city of Hama, the country's fourth-largest city.

The Syrian government has referred to opposition gunmen as terrorists since conflict broke out in March 2011.

Qatar's top diplomat, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, criticized Assad for failing to take advantage of the lull in fighting in recent years to address the country's underlying problems. "Assad didn't seize this opportunity to start engaging and restoring his relationship with his people," he said.

Politics733'mysterious'duplexes: The Corruption Scandal That Shocked Nigerians by Celestialsword(op): 5:33am On Dec 07, 2024
Something truly intriguing unfolded this week in the bustling city of Abuja. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken over a massive estate comprising 753 duplexes, sparking widespread curiosity and questions.

This situation goes beyond mere buildings; it tells a short tale filled with secrets and suspense that has captured the attention of the entire nation.

Imagine a sprawling estate, covering a vast 150,500 square metres in the Lokogoma District of Abuja. This area boasts 753 exquisite duplexes, but there’s a mysterious story behind them.

The EFCC believes these properties are linked to a former powerful government official suspected of using illicit funds to acquire them. Now, the EFCC has stepped in to take action. The sheer size of the estate marks it as the largest single asset recovery in the EFCC’s 21-year history.

Led by Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC successfully secured a court order last Monday to take control of these properties. However, what makes this case even more intriguing is that the identity of this former official has not been formally disclosed to the public.

This secrecy has sparked curiosity and even a hint of suspicion among the people. Journalists, activists, and ordinary citizens are questioning why the EFCC is withholding this information.

In response, the EFCC has stated that they are currently focusing on the properties as they piece together the full story. While this approach is strategic, it has left the public eager for further details.

The excitement peaked when Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie supported the EFCC’s decision to seize the properties, marking a significant victory for the commission in its fight against corruption.

Nonetheless, this ruling has left many waiting anxiously for more information. Who is the mysterious figure behind these duplexes? What fraud did he commit? How? How much was involved? What kind of embezzlement? Is he in jail or at large? Which ministry or government department did he defraud to build that estate? What is the worth of that estate?

The EFCC explains that they must adhere to legal protocols to ensure the investigation is conducted properly. This careful approach is vital for maintaining the integrity of the process.

EFCC secures final forfeiture of 753 Abuja estate duplexes
Hand over forfeited 753 Abuja duplexes to homeless doctors, medical practitioners - Olajengbesi tells FG
Across Nigeria, this story has become the talk of the town. Many people are applauding the EFCC, believing they are effectively combating corruption and safeguarding Nigeria’s resources. These supporters view the seizure as a positive step towards accountability and justice. However, others, such as activist Omowole Sowore, argue that the EFCC should be more transparent about what they know.

This debate has sparked lively discussions, with everyone eager to learn more about the unfolding situation. The public’s demand for transparency underscores the importance of open communication in significant cases like this. As the dust begins to settle, calls for greater transparency and honesty are growing louder.

Mr Ola Olukoyede has emphasised the crucial need to reclaim assets like these to halt corruption in its tracks. He sees asset recovery as a key tool in preventing corrupt individuals from reaping the benefits of their unlawful activities.

Despite this, the public remains on edge, awaiting the next chapter of this unfolding story. This situation is not merely about a collection of houses; it pertains to ensuring that Nigeria remains fair and just for all its citizens. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for future actions against corruption.

So, as you reflect on this intriguing story, remember: fighting corruption is not solely the EFCC’s responsibility; it is something we can all play a part in. Stay curious, ask questions, and hold our leaders accountable. And who knows? Perhaps one day, you’ll be the one helping to unravel a significant mystery—just kidding (or perhaps not)!

But in all seriousness, let’s continue to advocate for the truth and work collectively to improve Nigeria. Our vigilance and demand for accountability will help ensure that justice prevails and that our nation continues to thrive.

Think about it. If all your prayer requests are things men can provide, why are you really praying? Isn't prayer meant for things you can't do yourself? You pray to pass an exam that your friend read to pass. You pray to get a job that your friend got on merit. You appeal to God for a car that your friend worked for. It looks as if you are abusing prayer, and you want God to give you the things He has equipped you to provide for yourself. It is high time we understand that prayer is not the solution to laziness.

Tax Reform Bill: The South Must Refuse To Be Gaslit Against the North

Northern Nigeria is the only region in Nigeria that has given majority votes to a non-Northerner in an election where a fellow Northerner was a major candidate. Not an 'I also contested'. I mean a major candidate with a realistic chance of victory.

They have done it twice and each of those times, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu played a significant role.

On June 12, 1993, Chief Moshood Abiola won in most Northern states, including Kano, where he got 52.3% of the votes to Bashir Tofa's 47.7%. Incidentally, Tofa was from Kano.

Chief Abiola also won in Kaduna, with 52.2% of the votes, Jigawa, with a stunning 60.7%, Borno, with 54.4%, and Yobe, with an overwhelming 63.6.%.

In all, Chief Abiola won in nine out of sixteen Northern States.

The second time this occurred was on Saturday, February 25, 2023, when President Tinubu secured 2,652,824 votes from the Northwest, which is more than three hundred thousand votes above the 2,279,407 he got from the Southwest.

That meant that the President won the election in the Northwest by 39.64% of the votes. He also polled 1,760,993 votes in the North-central, making him the winner there with 38.58% of the total votes.

President Tinubu won the #NigerianElections2023 by winning in the Northwest, North-Central and Southwest. His closest rival, Waziri Atiku Abubakar, won in one region, the Northeast, where he comes from. Peter Obi won in two areas: the Southeast and Southwest-South.

From the above, any reasonable person can see that the facts do not support the claims flying about that the North hates the President and the Southwest. After all, the best judge of the present and the future is the past. And Arewa has more than proved itself a dependable friend and ally of the Southwest.

Northerners are not cowards. They do not vote for who they do not support.

That is why I urge all Nigerians to be aware of the fact that there is actually a large-scale false flag operation on social media, where certain persons have created multiple fake profiles to set the North, especially the core North, against the Southwest by promoting fake theories, such as that the Tax Reform Bill is anti-North and the North is anti-Tinubu.

Simultaneously, they are also promoting the lie that President Tinubu went to France to sign a treaty with President Macron to bring in French troops to wipe out the North.

The intention is to damage the fraternal relationship between the North, especially the core North, and the Southwest.

These are the same people who infiltrated the Days of Rage protests with a foreign flag and gaslit some unsuspecting Northerners to call for a military takeover.

And that is why, again, I urge all supporters of the President, especially those from the Southwest, not to swallow the bait and begin to take an anti-North stance on social media.

Insults do not kill. If they did, I, Reno Omokri, would have died between 2011 and 2015. But I am very much alive.

President Bola Tinubu is on a marathon, not a sprint. So help him by not taking the bait.

Again, let me reiterate that if you love President Tinubu, please don't say anything negative about Arewa or Northerners over this Tax Reform Bill.

Always have it at the back of your mind that President Tinubu got more votes from Northern Nigeria than from Southern Nigeria.

Therefore, your job as a supporter of the President is to convince and persuade, not to attack and antagonise. Even if you are insulted, think before you react or respond. Are Arewa noted for insults? I do not think so.

Thus, do not play into the hands of those who want to use this Bill to divide Nigeria.

Do not forget that we live in a country where those condemning the detention of Dele Farotimi for alleged criminal defamation are the same set of people who celebrated when a member of the All Progressives Congress named Pastor Okezie Atani, was arrested and detained for exactly the same alleged crime.

Many Nigerians do not support what is right. They support who they like.

PoliticsPANDEF,IPOB Clash Over N'delta's Inclusion In Biafra Agitation by Celestialsword(op): 5:23pm On Dec 06, 2024
The Pan Niger Delta Forum and the Indigenous People of Biafra exchanged words, on Wednesday, over the alleged inclusion of the Niger Delta region in IPOB’s Biafran secessionist agenda.

PANDEF, through its National Youth Leader, Donben Donyegha, released a statement in Port Harcourt rejecting any association with Biafra, reaffirming its commitment to a united Nigeria built on equity and justice.

However, IPOB dismissed the concerns, calling them “garbage” and reiterating that it does not force communities to join the Biafran cause.

In the statement, Donyegha decried the inclusion of Niger Delta communities in IPOB’s plans as “provocative and insulting” to the region’s leaders and people.

“We, therefore, warn that the continued inclusion of PANDEF areas or communities into the so-called Biafra Republic is provocative. Any further attempt to disregard or belittle our leaders and fathers by claiming Niger Delta towns or territories as part of Biafra will meet strong resistance from us, the youths. Niger Delta is not Biafra,” he declared.

PANDEF reiterated its advocacy for a united Nigeria under a federal system where states manage their resources and contribute taxes to the Federal Government.

“We believe in the unity of Nigeria, but it must be a Nigeria where sub-national entities control their God-given resources while supporting the centre with taxes for territorial integrity and foreign diplomacy,” Donyegha stated.

Responding in an interview, IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, refuted claims of forcing communities into the Biafran agenda.

He attributed such allegations to misinformation spread by a splinter group operating under the guise of IPOB.

“IPOB is not part of the group forcing any community in Nigeria to join Biafra State. Those doing so in the name of Biafra are content creators from Finland autopilot group, and they are not part of IPOB,” Powerful said.

He emphasised that IPOB’s focus remained on achieving independence through peaceful means, including a referendum where individuals can freely decide their allegiance.

“When referendum comes, people decide what they want; nobody will force them into the new nation called Biafra,” he said.

Powerful called for restraint, urging media outlets and groups to stop linking IPOB with fringe elements.
