Nairaland / General / At 23, I Was Planning Abacha’s Overthrow – By Reno Omokri by celinajumbo11(f): 12:59pm On Aug 25, 2020
A THREAD...

On Sunday, August 23, 2020, I urged Nigerians youths to be inspired by the 25-year-old man who instigated change in Mali after the discredited elections produced a ‘re-elected’ President.

We had had a similar incident in Nigeria last year, and we accepted the illegal removal of a sitting Chief Justice of the Federation, who was replaced by a man who is so dense that he could not explain what a legal technicality is.

That action was the prelude to a rigged election, and the continuation of the corrupt Buhari government, which is plagued by infighting amongst members of a suddenly and stupendously wealthy cabal.

The next day, a young man wrote a scathing piece insulting me and asking me what I did when I was 25 years old. To that young man, be it known that I have no shame; thus, insulting me is a waste of time. Christ took my shame away over 2000 years ago. However, I will now address the issues the young man raised.

As a young man of 23, (not 25), what was I doing? Good question.

At that age, I was fighting General Abacha and was almost killed. I got my hands dirty working to frustrate Abacha’s self-succession bid.

I founded a pro-democracy group, Youths For a United Nigerian Generation,(YoUNG), to act as a counter to the pro-Abacha Youths Earnestly Ask for Abacha. I would go to Somolu in Lagos, and print anti-Abacha material and drop it in bus stops around Lagos.

Naturally, I could not ask my parents to fund it, so I approached senior friends, like Dan Akpovwa, then the diplomatic editor of ThisDay, Azuka Russell Enujeke, then a successful businessman in Maryland, and Louis Edafe Toweh, then a major advertising executive (he directed the ‘I feel good’ Malta Guinness ad). These guys are still alive. And I would be grateful if they can testify here.

I met Beko Kuti, who was our godfather in the pro-democracy movement (photo attached). I also met with other leading pro-democracy activists.

YoUNG’s plan was to inspire a resistance (like what was happening in Malaysia at that time with Anwar Ibrahim), should Abacha succeed in transforming from a military dictator to a civilian President. We were planning a civilian coup to overthrow that government.

I was meeting with Western diplomats who helped our group with logistics. Youths for a United Nigerian Generation held events in Lagos and mobilised youths, and I was prepared to die rather than accept Abacha. For this, I was honoured by the then Dutch ambassador to Nigeria, Bastiaan Korner (photo attached). I was 24 when this happened in 1998.

Tope Fasua, a Presidential candidate in the last election, and a current big-time editor of a national daily, whom I would not want to name due to his sensitive position, can confirm these.

I am not saying youths should not watch #BBNaija. What I am saying is that it should not consume them to the point where they are tunnel-visioned on it and lost to more critical matters happening around them.

Big Brother, like all such reality shows, does not have as a primary function the entertainment of its viewers. That is a secondary goal. The main goal is the exploitation of their viewers.

Nigerian youths spend tens of billions voting on Big Brother. However, when a young person, like Fela Durotoye, or Kingsley Moghalu, runs for office, they don’t donate money to them. Obama became President out of nowhere because American youths donated to him.

If our youths can spend on Big Brother, they will get better value for money donating for youthful candidates.

I still continue in my pro-democratic activities.

After the February 2019 Presidential elections were postponed, I organized buses, at my own cost, to ferry stranded Nigerians to vote. Please Google this. After General Buhari rigged himself back to power, I took up a full-page advert in ThisDay, at the cost of almost a million Naira, stating that I would not call him President Buhari, but rather, General Buhari. I did this a full nine months before The Punch Newspapers took a similar stance. Please Google it.

I am not asking Nigerian youths to do what I have not done, or what I am not doing, or what I am not going to keep doing continuously, until either Christ returns, or I go to meet my Maker.

By the way, I schooled in England at the time when Big Brother began there. Yet, I have not watched an episode of the program. I am too focused on developing myself and improving my environment to have time to sit for hours watching toilet romance and slay queen fights. God did not create me and give me the life skills I have to waste my time on that!

Politics / Omokri’s Petition On Tinubu Breaks Record, 10,000 People Sign Petition In A Day by celinajumbo11(f): 2:22pm On Aug 21, 2020
The petition urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate a former Governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has reached 10,000 signatures in just one day. This is a record, as no political petition on Nigeria has reached such numbers in so short a period of time.

The petition is specifically calling on the EFCC to investigate Bola Tinubu for contravening the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act of 2011, by having bullion vans ferry alleged large sums of money into his house on the eve of the 2019 Presidential election.

It will be recalled that on the eve of the 2019 Presidential elections, drone imagery showed bullion vans ferrying suspected monies into Mr. Tinubu’s Bourdilon residence. The next day, in an interview with Channel Television’s Seun Okinbaloye, Mr. Tinubu was asked “the allegations are that those bullion vans carry money or ballots”, before he could finish asking his question, Mr. Tinubu interjected and said “Is it my money or government money? I don’t work for government...even if I have money to spend in my premises, what’s your headache?”

However, the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (and the amendment to the Act in 2012) makes it a crime for any individual to accept or make any cash payment that exceeds ₦5 million.

Yet, 18 months after this incident, Mr. Tinubu has not been investigated by the EFCC, which has tried others for lesser malfeasances.

The petition started by Reno Omokri, a bestselling author and activist, seeks to compel the EFCC to fulfil its constitutional responsibilities.

By virtue of the Economic and Financial Crimes commision Establishment act (2004), the law mandates the EFCC to combat financial and economic crimes. The Commission is empowered to prevent, investigate, prosecute and penalise economic and financial crimes and is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the provisions of other laws and regulations relating to economic and financial crimes.

Reno has always exposed lies....

Everyone knew that Sahara Reporters were only a political tool in the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to promote lies against the former president Goodluck Jonathan which led to the removal.

so, for MacArthur to continue to donate to sahara reporters, it goes to show that they are indirectly sponsoring fake news which is against our law.

The international community should call MacArthur to order as Nigerians have seen them as a major sponsor of fake news and propaganda geared towards disintegration in the country.... and which is unacceptable.

MacArthur Foundation should be aware of the fact that Nigerians are not all daft.... if they continue to Sponsor Sahara Reporters or give whatsoever donation to Sowore to continue his lies and propaganda, a time will come when the people will rise up and demand for justice for sponsoring negative propaganda aimed at creating hate and disunity among Nigerians.

When one becomes successful, he attracts negative and unjust criticisms from mischief makers. I am not surprise how people tend to bring down an individual who has achieved so much just within few months of being in power in his state.
Nigerians believe in a detribalized and non-divisive personality and one of such notable personality is the person of Gov. Bala Mohammed. He has shown so much enthusiasm in his drive to deliver development to the good people of Bauchi state.

Gov. Bala Mohammed is a detrabilised Nigerian... His achievements in the public sector gave him the mandate to being the governor of Bauchi state against all odds beating the ruling party... I can say for sure that Gov. Bala Mohammed remains a man of integrity having worked tirelessly to place Abuja among the best capital cities in the world.... He is the man of the people and will put the interest of the people first before anything.
His 100 days in office spoke volumes and one can visibly see so much developmental strides in Bauchi state.
PremiumTimes saying he did contracted such huge amount to his own firm for the purchase of cars are all lies aim at tarnishing his good image which he's built over the years....

This is a beautiful piece to put to rest this unfounded allegation against a man who does the best for his state. We must know as Nigerians that Gov. Bala Mohammed is doing his best to make Bauchi great again in the north meanwhile the enemies of the state are working tirelessly to bring him down. such negative post by premium times is only unfortunate. The people of Bauchi stands tall with his excellency.

Nairaland / General / Step Aside From The Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal - NSAM by celinajumbo11(f): 12:42am On May 15, 2019
The National Support for Atiku Mandate (NSAM) has asked the president of the Court Of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to step aside from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal Panel as the presidential election petitions hearing gets underway on 15th and 16th May 2019.

The group lends its voice to those of well-meaning Nigerians calling for the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to recuse herself from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal panel because of her affinity and connection with the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to the Director General/Convener of the group, Amb. Rowland Odih, “We are here to give His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar all the needed moral and physical support in a bid to regain his mandate given him by Nigerians in the recently concluded February 23rd Presidential Polls”.
“It will be impossible for the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa not to be bias as she has strong ties with the All Progressive Congress under which her husband Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa is Senator Elect representing Bauchi North Senatorial Zone”, he added.
Furthermore, “We believe in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man; so we are calling on the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to recuse herself from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal as a result of this conflict of interest”.

Nigerians should know however that Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa is not new to controversial cases.

One can recall some of the controversial cases handled by Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa and they include; the Benue South Senatorial election petition case 2007 between the then Senate President David Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Alhaji Usman Abubakar of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) as well as the Sokoto State Governorship election petition case 2007 which led to fierce disagreement between the then Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu and the former president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami.

These cases drew public outcry and outright condemnation by Nigerians as the outcome did not meet their expectation.

Only recently and as a run up to Presidential and National Assembly polls in the country, one can recall also the case between Usman Abubakar Tuggar and Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa where they both insisted that they won the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary elections held on October 3rd 2018 for Bauchi North Senatorial District.

Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa’s name was forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s candidate against the belief that Usman Abubakar Tuggar won the primaries going by the documents made available to the general public.

This issue raised so much dust as some stakeholders in the state claimed that the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) swapped Tuggar’s name with Bulkachuwas’ in the list of candidates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a view to using Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa as an access to his wife Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa who is the President of the Court of Appeal and whose court handles election petitions cases among other judicial functions.

For sake of emphasis, Nigerians should however take note that Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa is husband to Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa and he is currently a senator elect under the All Progressive Congress (APC) representing Bauchi North Senatorial District and Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa is presiding over the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal Panel in a case between The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC).

These and many more have raised salient questions as to her suitability and moral standing to handle cases in the presidential election petitions tribunal Holden at the Court of Appeal where she is president.

Flowing from the above therefore, the National Support for Atiku Mandate is calling on all Nigerians to unanimously ask Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to recuse herself from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal Panel as this is the honorable thing to do at this trying time of our nascent democracy.

Politics / Atiku Offers Nigerians Hope In New Year Message by celinajumbo11(f): 12:48pm On Jan 03, 2019
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to rally behind him to forge a new era of hope and prosperity for the nation.

The former vice president is one of the favourites to emerge victorious in the 2019 presidential election, and he has called on Nigerians to make it a reality so that the nation can set a new course of leadership.

In a new year message signed by the candidate on Monday, December 31, 2018, he noted that the year 2019 holds a lot of promise for the country as long as Nigerians are ready to do the hard work of voting out the current government.

He said Nigerians must work deliberately to improve the nation by electing a government that offers purposeful leadership.

“We already have the vision, the vision of a nation that is a beacon of hope for the Black Race and the world at large, what we lack and what 2019 can provide, is the leadership that has the capacity to translate that vision into reality.

“In 2019, Nigerians need a leadership that is 100% for 100% of Nigerians, 100% of the time,” he said.

Full statement below:

“My dear fellow citizens,

“As 2018 comes to an end and 2019 beckons, on behalf of my family and I, let me wish you and your family a very happy New Year in advance.

“In 2018, we became the world headquarters for extreme poverty, however, I am convinced that in 2019, if we chart a new course, we can become the world headquarters for hope and extreme devotion to the cause of lifting our people out of poverty.

“2019 is as yet a blank page. As a nation, we must not settle for whatever it brings. Rather, we must take collective action, through our choices, in making it a year where we revive national hope, with visionary leadership that sees our economy and institutions working again as they did in our golden era.

“We can chart a new course and open a new chapter that sees every Nigerian living in peace and prosperity with their neighbour. It can be the year when our youths finally get a job instead of being unfairly tagged as lazy. With purposeful leadership, it can also be the year when we put an end to terrorism and usher in a golden age of peace.

“But it will not just happen by itself. We have to make changes from the top all the way to the bottom. We already have the vision, the vision of a nation that is a beacon of hope for the Black Race and the world at large, what we lack and what 2019 can provide, is the leadership that has the capacity to translate that vision into reality.

“In 2019, Nigerians need a leadership that is 100% for 100% of Nigerians, 100% of the time. We have seen where division and sectionalism has led us to. Now let us try unity and patriotism.

“Don’t lose heart and hope. Nigeria is no stranger to overcoming difficulties. In fact, we have an uncanny ability to perform our best when the worst is upon us. I urge my fellow countrymen and women to remember how we became the first nation in the world to defeat and overcome the Wild Ebola Virus, when even First World nations were struggling with the scourge.

“That resilience is domiciled in our national psyche and together we shall win forever. We shall win over forces of disunity. We shall win over forces of poverty and backwardness.

“But more importantly, in 2019, I want Nigerians to know that it is possible to have a leadership that is compassionate and that this does not equate to weakness. A leadership that is bold but not domineering. A leadership that is intelligent, but not arrogant.

“Indeed, that is the only type of leadership that can navigate the difficulties currently facing our dear nation and lead us to Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress, which are our national motto and which are the hope of all Nigerians.

“Once again, I wish you all a Happy New Year and may 2019 be the year of Nigeria.”

Politics / Name Those Two Individuals That Allegedly Hijacked Buhari's Administration by celinajumbo11(f): 2:24pm On Dec 27, 2018
The spokesman of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization, Hon. Segun Showunmi, has asked the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, to name those two individuals that allegedly “hijacked the administration” for Nigerians to liberate the president from their stranglehold.

Showunmi, who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State, described Aisha Buhari as a woman who speaks the truth regarding those in the corridors of power.

As the PDP presidential campaign spokesman, Showunmi said Buhari doesn’t know “how to fight corruption” even though he had the initial determination to do it.

Showunmi, who is the PDP candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, said Atiku had the capacity to fight corruption in a sustainable manner more than the president.

“I want to beg Her Excellency, Aisha Buhari, to shatter the glass ceiling and mention those two people that have hijacked our president so that we can either go to beg them or we fight them and liberate the president of Nigeria from their stranglehold. Maybe in the remaining couple of months that he has, he will be able to be the Buhari that people wanted him to be,” he said.

“We want to know them so that we can write their names in the black book of history that they were the ones that destroyed the Buhari presidency,” he added.

Politics / Investigate Buhari Family Members Ownership Of Etisalat, Keystone Bank - Atiku by celinajumbo11(f): 1:38pm On Dec 27, 2018
The Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has called on the appropriate authorities to urgently institute a probe to unravel the hidden faces behind the new ownership structure of multi billion naira telecoms giant, Etisalat Nigeria as well as Keystone Bank.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday , Special Assistant to Atiku on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu said such a probe was necessary in view of reports that members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s family now own substantial share in Etisalat Nigeria which has an estimated $2billion (about N727billion at 360 per dollar) of its estimated $20billion global net worth.

Atiku also expressed shock at reports from unimpeachable sources that the first family now plays big in the nation’s financial sector after acquiring mouthwatering shares in Keystone Bank with total assets of $1.916 billion (equivalent to N307.5billion) as well as purchasing about ₦3 billion worth of shares in the new Pakistani Islamic Bank.

“I know that last week was turbulent for President Buhari and I apologize for adding to his woes, but as he is insistent on the myth that he is spotless and anti-corrupt, If this is found to be true, this scandal would break every rule of corporate and public governance, since this will be the first time members of the first family will be openly involved in a once-in-a-lifetime deal that would make them all richer beyond their wildest dreams,” the statement said.

The accusation is coming amidst reported allegations in the media that the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government plans to use billions of Naira from the Anchor Borrowers Programme allocated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for farmers, using imaginary donations from 12 million farmers as a façade.

But the presidential candidate of the PDP advised President Buhari to shun the use of state resources and machinery for the upcoming 2019 presidential poll.

Specifically, Atiku said no farmer contributed any N1.7billion for Buhari’s re-election campaign, warning that APC’s decision to use monies meant for farmers to run his campaign is not tidy at all.

“The other day, a man who scored 15,424,921 votes to win the 2015 general election was reported to have been nominated by 14 million APC members at the Presidential primaries for 2019. Now, over 12 million farmers have donated to his campaign. Are they indirectly spewing out outrageous figures of people they intend to claim voted for them in the coming elections? Could that be why the President was flashing an occult double four hand signal that has gone viral? What did the hand signal mean? Does it mean that the President has jettisoned the idea of a free and fair election and telling Nigerians that no matter how they vote, he will return for a second term of four years? In any case , if the farmers who just took a loan through the borrowers anchor programme and have not liquidated the facility can donate this huge sum or any sum for that matter, it means the ‘Association of widows and children of all those slain by Boko Haram and herdsmen will donate N5billion to the Buhari campaign. In fact, the 23.1 million youth who lost their jobs between 2016 till date will donate about N12billion to the Buhari campaign.”

“Assuming but not even conceding that such a huge sum of money was donated to President Buhari by Nigerian farmers as his handlers would want Nigerians to believe, wouldn’t such donation be in contravention of Section 91 (9)of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) which says no individual or other entity shall donate more than N1m to an aspirant or a candidate,” Atiku said.

Section 91 (2) of the Electoral Act further states that a presidential candidate can spend a maximum of N1billion.

The law also recommends a fine of N1m or a prison term of 12months or both for any candidate that breaches the provisions of the Act.

‘We have no stand on whether or not President Buhari should run for office. That is his prerogative and that of his party. But we believe it is improper for public office holders to forcefully loot public funds, on behalf of a sitting president seeking a second term in office.

‘’What this means is that there is a ‘war chest’ which apparently is from the national coffers,’’ Atiku said.

He said if President Buhari wants to run for office next year, he should take only from monies sourced from donations by his campaign groups that are independent of government.

‘’Anything short of that – as is currently the case with the use of funds from the CBN meant for farmers will mean there will be no level playing field for all the candidates billed to contest for the presidency during next year’s presidential elections,’’ Atiku said.

Politics / Press Release Reaction: Amnesty International's Latest Report "Harvest Of Death" by celinajumbo11(f): 5:44pm On Dec 18, 2018
No true compatriot can afford to feel indifferent about the details in Amnesty International’s latest report titled: ‘‘Harvest of Death: Three years of bloody clashes between herders and farmers’’ and the way it reflects on the very poor quality of government leadership in Nigeria at the moment.

The report catalogued that more than 3,600 people have been killed since 2016, with 310 attacks recorded between January 2016 and October 2018 - 57 per cent of which took place in 2018 alone.

It is regrettable that on a day when Amnesty International Nigeria launched its ponderous report and at a period when many Nigerians have deep concerns about how to support and motivate our gallant security personnel to do more, a military parade was being done – in the way of blundering dictators – to mark a birthday at Aso Rock!

The Amnesty International report shows the human cost of the cycle of violence between herders and farmers in parts of Nigeria affected by the clashes which resulted in alarming death tolls, depressing displacement of thousands of Nigerians and the very sad but total disruption of livelihoods for too many men, women and innocent children.

Flipping through the report, any discerning human being easily feels depressingly impacted by the gory experiences of too many struggling Nigerians in various parts of the country.

It is extremely unbelievable that such violence can easily proliferate in a nation with a government, especially one that hoodwinked Nigerians into believing it came with a mission of 'change', bandying the word ‘security’ as a fundamental goal it aimed to achieve immediately.

Rather than make further lamentations, it is time for all men and women of goodwill to frankly assert that Nigerians will not follow them to the "Next Level" of official insensitivity and tactlessness that has facilitated the loss of too many lives, often without even mere acknowledgement from those in power today.

Indeed, under this administration, lives are wantonly lost in homes, forests and highways in ways that make even those in war-torn countries to shudder with fear but still, this government of lies and propaganda continues to point accusing fingers at everyone but itself, at a time attributing horrendous crimes to late Libyan leader, Moammer Ghadaffi.

Nigeria under HE Atiku Abubakar will look at the reports of Amnesty international with a view to ascertaining the facts, getting the root of all infractions and putting in place, safeguards to prevent future occurrences.

We will overhaul our entire policing and security architecture to reflect present and future challenges as well as ensure massive interface with our communities with a view to having a governance structure that works for all under our restructuring agenda.

We mourn our lost compatriots as we call for peace and progress for Nigeria.

Politics / Re: PDP Youths Town Hall Meeting In Lagos: Who Is Presently There? by celinajumbo11(f): 9:52am On Dec 18, 2018
Sometimes i wonder why people can't understand the simple difference between youth town hall meeting and a campaign Rally.
The above event is a town hall meeting for the youths... Should the Teslim Balogun stadium have been used instead?
Y'all Buhari Media Center boys and girls who's only intent is insults and not factual with your point should kindly note that in months to come, we will all escort our grandpa Buhari back to Daura to continue his cow business that never multiplies.
Go and argue with your ancestors.
Politics / Atiku Asks Buhari To Resign Over Alleged ‘economy In Bad Shape’ Comment by celinajumbo11(f): 5:16pm On Dec 17, 2018
The Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to vacate his post over his alleged confession on Friday that the nation’s economy is in bad shape.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described President Buhari’s confession that the “Nigerian economy has collapsed under his watch as not only a pathetic ploy to attract the sympathy of Nigerians with his false honesty but also, a disguise to get a soft landing from the people he has put under terrible suffering and hardship in the last three and half years.”

“The result, of course, is this late hour confession of failure on the eve of our general elections, in the hope that millions of Nigerians, whom he has condemned to poverty and hardship, will give him a clap for failing abysmally. I dare say that President Buhari has miscalculated badly on this matter because Nigerians are simply fed up with him.”

“The economy has collapsed under his watch and he has by his frank remarks admitted that he has no idea on how to fix it and that is why he summoned the governors to help him. This is really very sad because President Buhari has run out of time and what Nigerians need now is a leadership which has the political will, administrative experience and sound economic acumen to get Nigeria working again,” he stated.

Atiku, who continued on President Buhari’s “confession of the failed economy” said Buhari “has continued to exhibit his cluelessness, incapacity and ineptitude in handling the economy by once again invoking the tired mantra of blaming the past administration and 16 years of PDP rule for his own failure.”

Atiku who was reacting to the outcome of the meeting between the President and Governors of 36 states said “the honourable step to take is for the President to step down from his position.”
He said “the confession by the President that the economy had gone out of control” was a confirmation of the forecast by the British multinational bank, HSBC “which predicted that re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 could plunge Nigeria into deeper economic hardship.”

“Unless those in-charge of the APC and the party’s supporters are, as usual, suffering from some form of self-delusion, it just does not make any sense for them to say that the APC-led federal government had brought succour to the ordinary Nigerian when President Muhammadu Buhari himself has admitted to Governors of the 36 States of the federation that the economy has gone beyond his control,” The statement said.

“Or do we need a prophet to tell us that the president’s admission of the state of the nation’s economy is a vindication of our long held position and indeed the forecast by HSBC recently cited by the Nigerian media where the bank had said a second term for Buhari would greatly stunt the economy of the country?” he asked.

He called on the APC to apologise to all Nigerians “for bringing them nothing but suffering of unquantifiable proportion since 2015, and to make a solemn pledge not to have anything to do with governance, especially with the 2019 elections fast approaching.”

According to him, the hopes for better governance and improved standard of living that many had nursed with the assumption of office by President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2015 has since given way to despair and hopelessness.

“The exchange rate of the Naira to the US dollar when the APC assumed office in 2015 was about 170 (official rate) to the dollar. Today, it is 360 to the dollar. Today, millions of Nigerians, most of them youths, are unemployed, forcing them to become professional beggars who wait with bated breath for FG’s monthly N5,000 handout and N10,000 Tradermoni aimed at bribing them to re-elect the party in the forthcoming elections,” the statement added.

“Power generation has actually dipped from 4,949 megawatts PDP left in 2015 to less than 3,500 megawatts even though Buhari’s handlers consistently claim that 7,000 megawatts is what is currently being generated. What more evidence do we need to know that the APC has been a curse rather than a blessing to our country.”

“It is amazing that, in this day and age when leaders of nations are expected to be creative and think outside the box, by applying new digital tools and embracing new thinking in addressing the emerging challenges to modern governance, our own President is still living in the Paleolithic age of blame game and buck passing as responsible for his failures. What this simply means is that President Buhari was not really prepared for governance and did not even understand the simplest intricacies of running a national economy as big as Nigeria.

“This is really tragic and it is obvious that President Buhari has come to the end of the road and has completely given up on the next steps to advance Nigeria, while those whom his dear wife openly declared misled his administration into this economic quagmire are still drumming up support for his next level of more hardship, suffering, unprovoked deaths as a result of mis-governance.”

He said “the only way out of the nation’s problems is for Nigerians to vote en-mass for Atiku Abubakar whose policy document focuses on job creation, ensuring security, growing businesses, developing power, and water infrastructure, agriculture and education and how Nigeria’s next president will empower women.”

“The next generation of Nigerians are looking up to a visionary and cosmopolitan leadership, headed by a solid and steady leader, that will free up the space, remove unnecessary ancient cum bureaucratic obstacles and launch Nigeria into the competitive global space instead of de-marketing the country in the eyes of the global community. President Buhari should wake up and smell the aroma of the coffee Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is brewing. He is tired and at his wits end and it is time for him to vacate active task of presidency and return to his much cherished sedentary, pastoral and rustic life style in his country home in Daura then leave the rigours and highly strategic art of governance to those who know how to govern and get the economy working again,” He concluded.

Politics / BREAKIN: Segun Vs Keyamo Exclusive Interview "Up Front" On Al Jazeera With Mehdi by celinajumbo11(f): 10:49pm On Dec 15, 2018
In February 2019, Nigerians will vote their next leader in the sixth presidential elections since the end of the military rule in 1999. The incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress is running for a second term. His main competitor is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the opposition People's Democratic Party.

Which of them is best-placed to lead Africa's biggest economy?

In a recent Interview with Hasan Mehdi on “Up Front” Aljazeera, the spokesman of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Mr. Segun Showunmi elucidated on how Atiku Abubakar will run an all-inclusive government create jobs and fight terrorism.

When asked about how Atiku Abubakar will defeat Boko Haram, he said “The first thing I want to say is that Boko Haram existed in the North Eastern region before Muhammadu Buhari became president”.
“Right now, Boko Haram and criminal activities and violence have spread to almost every part of the country; what you have seen is that because the current government’s mishandling and lack of understanding that there is a policing aspect to managing terrorism and there is a military aspect to it also”.

“For your information, Atiku spent the first 20 years of work life as a custom officer that gave him the opportunity to know how to manage the borders, to stabilize the borders and be able to reduce the inflow of criminal element and also to prevent small and light arms from coming in”.
“Over and above that, he is going to be running an inclusive country”.

When asked why Buhari travelled overseas for medical treatment without informing the Nigerian people what that treatment was for, the Buhari Presidential campaign spokesman, Festus Keyamo, says there is "no political templates and booklets" that require Buhari to disclose his medical records.

While asking the spokesman of the Atiku Presidential Campaign same question, he said “We challenge them and if they agree and let us bring ourselves before a medical board, we will make public the totality of the state of the wellness of my candidate”

In another question, Mehdi pointed out that President Buhari has been to the United Kingdom several times for unspecified medical treatment, despite claiming during the campaign that he would end 'medical tourism' for government officials when treatment was available in Nigeria.

Keyamo said "In matters of health, you have to rebuild infrastructure. Because health is number one," "And you don't expect people to die, not only him [Buhari], any other person at all in a state of health that may be terminal."

Atiku Abubakar's spokesman Segun Showunmi was however pressed about the $40mn sent to the United States via offshore wire transfers. Showunmi says the money was an attempt "to fund an American University in Yola." "It was investigated. It was clearly shown not to be of crime," he continued. "We must be careful that we do not take small queries to mean grand larceny or grand indictment."

Politics / Atiku's Spokesman Segun Showunmi Vs Festus Keyamo Part 2 Today On Channels TV. by celinajumbo11(f): 5:07pm On Dec 13, 2018
The Spokesperson of Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization, Hon. Segun Showunmi was on Channels TV this morning, on #SunriseDaily. The following are highlights of his words during the programme;

"- I know Uche Secondus very well. And I know he is usually very guarded. He (Uche Secondus, PDP National Chairman) must have credible intelligence that is suggesting that people are getting a bit meddlesome in the affairs of our Party (PDP).

- You know, there are few things that are tolerable and I think we can tolerate their (APC) shenanigans.

- Knowing fully well that our Party (PDP) is older than theirs (APC), it is stronger than theirs. It has been around for a longer period and can withstand that shock.

- I want to go back to the issue around whether we are nervous about the Electoral Act being signed or not and why they are seemingly so confident on why they want to do the election on the premise of what happened in 2015 of course, to people who have benefitted from a weak law, they will get excited to want to go with that same process.

- Look at the elections in Kano, everybody know about the accreditation, the number of incident forms that were used in some of these locations was a bit on the high-side.

- The whole idea of an incident form as it was conceived, is supposed to be to accommodate the minimal number of people whose fingerprints cannot be easily verified by the card reader and all of that.

- When the incident forms now become the majority reason by which you are able to do accreditation, we can clearly see the challenge there. One of it is that you are not able to know and verify underage voting. You are not able to eliminate the number of people who take other people's voters cards via voter cards "mopping up" and sharing to fans and getting them to use them.

- So before you even get into the PDP/APC conversation, the first conversation that needs to be on the table is that *we have a duty, and the President himself has a bigger duty to ensure that the processes are improved upon and I want to advice the President and I am being honest here; you cannot be President for four years in Nigeria and not be interested in deepening any of the laws.*

- In 1999, an announcement of a President created the EFCC Act, ICPC Act and all of that. Yar’adua created the Amnesty Act to solve serious problems at that time. Jonathan did the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to improve the situation of trying to get us to go through the judicial process faster.

- What exactly is this President going to bequeath for his time? It seems to be that what he could have done or the opportunity he should have taken is the Electoral Act and to work with it and make it work and give us a tidier and tighter one.

- The nations of the world are moving to get their people out of poverty. In that regard, China has been able to move about 700 million people out of poverty. India has been able to move people out of poverty, and Malaysia has done same.

- What we find in this APC government and their so-called TraderMoni is that common sense and intellectual engagement has departed from that (APC) government.

- No serious government can go into the market, take the Vice President, the exhorted Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, reduce him to a thrift-collector to be collecting PVC Numbers of people, to be giving them N10,000 that will not impact them well.

- What serious governments do is to come up with a framework that will help them to have financial inclusion, that will make sure that the banks do their duties and lend credit to them (market traders), that will make sure that they have a sustainable design that can get anybody gainfully employed and anybody in need, to get access to capital; (A framework) that can ensure that SME is the backbone which they get people out of poverty.

- This joke that they are calling TraderMoni, that they are going to the market with the Vice President, not just a junior Officer of that Government to be sharing N10,000, asking people for their PVC, subtly manipulating them and encouraging them towards the election. You know what? Nigerians are smarter than that!*

- This is a country where people make up their own minds and take their own decisions. The indices do not suggest that they (the APC government) are doing anything right. We had 8.7% poverty level before they came into Government, same as unemployment level; Now we have about 18.8%, double digits.

- We had single-digit inflation before they came into Government, now we have double-digit. The number of people that have gone into poverty is a lot. The number of people that are not able to find anything to do is a lot. The number of businesses that we have lost is a lot.

- We had about 578 million US Dollars economy before, now we have 73 million between 2015 and 2018. These are statistics by the CBN and by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics. Fact of the matter is that they are in Government. They have a right to run their programmes. They have a right to go about it anyhow they know, because that's why they got elected and they have all the term to govern.

- But we are saying to them, 'this is not sustainable'. You have to put investment in education. You have to put investment in social stabilisation. You have to put investment in financial inclusion.

- If they do not know what to do, they should go and learn from Rwanda, and Nigerians can be sure that when we get in charge, when Atiku Abubakar gets in charge, four things will happen quickly;

- The first is that we are going to create jobs, we are going to open up the economy so that big players can come in and create growth within the economy.

- We are going to unify this country, because they have divided it ridiculously. We are going to secure the country because more people have died under this Government, than died before. Right now, they have insurgency in the North East, it has gone to the North West, we have it in the North Central and obviously you remember the "Crocodile dance" of the South East.

- We are going to ensure that whatever happens in Nigeria, everybody would be able to know. If you want work, you would be able to find work. If you have a business, you would get access. The banks would be made to comply with the issues of doing core-banking which means the banks cannot be posting profit that is outperforming the real sector. That means they are not lending into the real sector.

- Those are some of the things that we would be doing. *Whatever is it that they are calling TraderMoni is just a gimmick for Election, so that they can transfer money to people and hope to get a profit from that, but I can assure you, Nigerians know that they cannot sell their votes, let alone the Vice President; the 'Almighty' Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that is now found distributing money on the streets.

Politics / EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: A Breakdown On Atiku's Policy Document - Segun Showunmi by celinajumbo11(f): 4:04pm On Dec 12, 2018
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SEGUN SHOWUNMI, SPOKESMAN OF ATIKU ABUBAKAR PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION FOR 2019 GENERAL ELECTION, HE HAD A CHAT WITH OUR EDITOR IN CHIEF ABOUT ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR`S BLUE PRINT TO TRANSFORM NIGERIA AND OTHER SUNDRY NATIONAL ISSUES.

EXCERPT:
QUESTION: "Please sir, give us a brief background about yourself and the role you play in Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization".

My name is Segun Showunmi, I’m the Director of Media and Publicity of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization, I have equally served as Director General to former President Dr. Good Luck Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organization in Ogun State as well as Deputy Director campaign 2015, former Deputy Chief Press Secretary to former Ogun State governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Director of organization, Peoples democratic party(PDP), Media Analyst to Ogun State Government and a Public Analyst. Generally, I’m a politically exposed person, who has mastered the art of narrative in the public place. I`m a Pan Nigerian and I think of the best that can happen to Nigeria, I believe in a democratic process, it must be encouraged to be stable, African Nations especially Nigeria must situate itself properly in the comity of nations and begin to provide value for its own citizen and show direction to the black people, since they are the most populated black race on earth. I`m a lucky person, always in a happy mood. I`m hardly sad, very enthusiastic and committed person to any course. I’m married with children.

QUESTION: "It is in public domain that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has many years of experience, both in public and private business. Kindly give a breakdown of his profile and experiences so possessed. How efficient has he managed his chains of businesses"?

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was born 71years ago in Jedda Adamawa State. He is son of his parent, he had sister, the mother was like other rural woman, who was into petty trading, he lost his father very early at the age of 11years, he began to demonstrate his early genius in the field of business, when during his holiday jobs, he keep his money earned with his mother and used them to do some trading activities around him, it was unbelievable that such mini trading, he was able buy a house for his mother at very early stage .He move very quickly to secondary, at that time it was native authority that was in charge of schools in the Northern part of Nigeria. He move from there to do Diploma in law in Ahmad Bello University (ABU) Zaria, at that time, it was premier school of basic studies, when he finished, like any other person, he was fortunate to be enlisted into the Nigeria custom service while at Nigeria custom, he was one of those junior officers referred to as super corps, known to be no nonsense officer, if given a job, he gets the job done. For many years he enjoyed a lot of eulogies as a custom officer, at a point, he was in charge of the whole northern borders, having the responsibility of managing the northern borders to track down smugglers. At one time, he had the opportunity of be in charge of international gate way in one of the international airport, who ensured the 53 briefcases containing money did not get into the country and shut under the carpet. Besides, while in custom, he rose very quickly, he did a lot of good things; he was a member of the committee, on port decongestion in 70s. He did very well in the committee; he distinguished himself as a very honest person. His outstanding performances move him quickly to the position of Deputy Director in Nigeria custom service. Because of his desire for business, he left Nigeria custom service to join business community. Apart from the fact, that he had pre- desire for business in early life as in trading, cars hire purchases, building houses for sale etc. When he left the Nigeria customs service, his friend came up with business concept, this time around, logistic company, which he quickly buy into, they started as Nicotex, which later transform to INTELS, fortunately the company later became a goldmine. As a logistics company, it was met to manage logistics around oil and gas and ports in Nigeria, before you know it, they went into other African countries and beyond. For the purposes of emphasis, it is a lucrative business, virtually every single thing, the port and oil and gas needed within their domain are to be provided by Logistics Company, this include but not limited to the provision of houses, water, electricity, cooks and cars etc It was an opportunity that was there, nobody wanted to take. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was fortunate to take the advantage. He managed it well and become a very successful man. Looking back, Atiku has been diligent and very lucky in business, recalled in 1992, when he was one the presidential candidate of SDP who came third after MKO Abiola, and Baba Gana Kingibe. In that election, where we have the like of MKO Abiola who was already a billionaire, no clear winner was declared, a run- off was to be conducted, Atiku was to back MKO Abiola, it was clear, whoever Atiku Abubaker back will win the primary election and to the Glory of God, he backed MKO Abiola and he won the election. So, Atiku Ababakar has been very lucky and successful businessman. He is a person, who constantly improves himself. Concern about deplorable economic condition of country and his desire to help the down trodden and help them get a means of livelihood, he has since, diversify his business into a more beneficial human needs, this include but not limited to Agriculture, real estate, Micro finance Banking, printing, Media, manufacturing, blue stocks, production of water/beverages and schools etc. From the very beginning, Atiku has proved to be an entrepreneurial person, he has sticks to that ambition; as a business maverick, he has what it takes to transform every sector of Nigeria economy. The experience and the antecedent shown here, portray a successful story of his businesses, this drive, is what he intend to put into practice to rescue Nigeria economy. He a Pan- Nigeria, nice person, who have built relationship across length and breadth of Nigeria, he is a happy man, he has lovely family and his children are well brought up. He is a kind person; Nigeria would want to learn many things from him.

QUESTION: "We are aware, political campaign is gaining momentum, what are the blue prints of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to transform Nigeria especially the economy and security that is already in the shamble".

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is going to be running issue based campaign. He will give priority to job creation, infact, job creation will be the centre policy of his government. Simply put, every day Atiku spend on the chair at ASO ROCK is going to be busy with the issues of job creation for the ever increasing populations, this will happen by creating enable environment for public private partnership to function and expand their scope. He going to ensure Nigeria becomes next destination of choice, where business can be conducted, where you have good road network, constant electricity supply and safe environment etc. The Unity of Nigeria will be vigorously pursued for you to do this, as a person you must have good relationship within the structures of the country. Atiku has over whelming relationship across the six geographical zone of the country. In the South West, he is married to one of their daughter, in Adamawa is married to one of their daughter, North Central he has longtime political and community relationship, for instance in Tiv land, he has one of the highest Chieftaincy title given a non-indigene while in South South he has his business interest, where he did a lot of social responsibility to the community out there .While in South east he also have a marriage relationship. He is kind of a person who has Shehu Musa Yara- dua`s ideology of building bridges to unit Nigeria that seem to move away people from ethnic and clannish mentality. On security, Atiku has been very busy on that, he would carry out security audit to enable it reposition security for a better performance, he would ensure the necessary security equipment are acquire for the soldiers to carry out their job, create necessary frame work to enhance Federal Police, State and Community Police as may be deem fit by different tiers of government. There would be enable environment that would allow all them to work together to ensure maximum security for all Nigerian to have a sleep with their two eyes closed. He captures all of these, in a single statement:“ Let’s get Nigeria working again”.

QUESTION: "Alhaji Atiku Aubakar as the candidate of people democratic party (PDP) , What are his competitive edge over other party presidential candidates that will make win 2019 general election".

From the recent development, you will observe that we are matching towards two party system that is PEOPLE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS, have equal match, People Democratic Party is a National Party they were in government before and they are challenging APC, the ruling party, we can confidently say that our democracy is getting mature like you have in most of the advance countries of the world like USA, UK, RUSSIA and others, they always have two party system, be this, as it may, Ever body would expect a good conduct in this forth coming elections. In terms of his competitive edge, one, he a politician I say this with every sense of responsibility, in politics, we learn the art of building consensus and carry people along, Atiku as a person, has this attribute as a politician, he would be more acceptable by the people because he would likely going to give people sense of belong in his government. As a businessman, yes, he has what it takes to run an economy that work, not just a mere businessman but business person with conglomerates that have capacity to deliver on large scale of service, you can imagine this kind of person with this background running an economy, he would not any problem . Atiku is known to be detribalized Nigerian, what this to the table is that he would be running a government of inclusiveness that will give a sense of belong to everyone. No tribe would feel hurt, no ethnic and clan would be left behind, we need that right now to unite Nigeria together. He is also known to be a visionary leader because he is very futuristic in his thinking, therefore I think Atiku is the right man to connect Nigeria to the port of industrial revolution which will give us a very fast space economy. Over and above that, Atiku is very straight forward and discipline, because he has gone through the structure while in custom service, he understands the management of the structure, with well define position and role, control and communication, transparent process, this will keep people inform, how government services are run Atiku is a man that has this country at heart for long time couple with the fact that some particular section of the country feels marginalized to this extent, he is going to restructure the country, he is going to work on the restructuring to get the federation that works for all Nigerians. The above cutting edge will be difficult for other candidates beat or match.

QUESTION: "What is your take in the issue of vote buying considering what happened in Ekiti and Osun State governorship election? How can we stop it"?

It is a sad situation, as bad as it, we will continue to beg Nigerians and sensitize them to know that their votes is their power and that, it is not good for them to relinquish it with token that will not fetch development. They should know, selling your votes is tantamount to selling their right and future development. As nation, if we take the matter to a point where citizen will know the importance of election and their votes. Then, we can begin to reduce the impact and consequence. For now, it is up to INEC, security agencies and legislators to legislate laws in this respect, such that there will be sanction and punishment for any culprit. When Atiku become president, he will use the instrument of state to sensitize the people through National Orientation Agency, Ministry of Information to ensure, we keep out all the vices of our electoral process. It is up to all politicians, INECT, Security Agencies to ensure that the political process is transparent, free and fair, credible come 2019 general election, so that we can match the bench mark of other countries and be proud of ourselves as people.

QUESTION: "What is your message to Nigerians in this period of election"?

The message to all Nigeria is that they should take this election seriously, it is more like a referendum for Nigeria to decide what they want, that is deciding their own fate, who is that person that will solve their problems, who going to put food on their tables, who will make the students live well, who will make sure the workers get a living wage, who will protect the people, who can protect and build the economy, who can give them sense of belong that will show Nigeria truly to all us, who can get electricity working non-stop?. In my opinion, you will find out that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the man who can provide all of these as quickly as possible to get Nigeria out of the manmade shambles. On this note, we are calling on all Nigerians to vote for him and join hands with him in the campaign that will be based on issues to avoid violence and thuggry, every Nigeria should get themselves prepare for this election, the early we reduce money politics and vote buying , the better for all of us. I wish Nigeria and all Nigerians well. let’s join hands with Atiku Abubakar to get Nigeria working again. Thank you God bless you all.

Politics / 2019 Election A Walkover For Atiku, PDP – Shaibu by celinajumbo11(f): 12:43pm On Dec 06, 2018
The general elections has been described as a walk-over for the former vice President and Presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other candidates of the party.

Mr Phrank Shaibu, a Public Communication expert and close associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar made the assertion while addressing members of the PDP Youth Leaders Organization in Abuja yesterday.

On the kind of campaigns to expect, he said “A large population of Nigerians have been taught new lessons on poor leadership and now have a better understanding of disinformation because they feel the reality of economic pains and hopelessness that have been thrust upon them in the past three years. Consequently, the campaign for 2019 presidential elections will be based on truth.

“Right now, the electorates have grown in knowledge of what choice will be best for them especially on their safety, real economic growth and equity. Nigerians will experience a new trend of issue based campaign. The two major contestants have been tested and their performance cum capacities to deliver well documented.

“Already, we have a lot of decided voters especially given their sad experiences and difficulties in the past three years under a president that has ruled Nigeria twice with established antecedent of bringing upon the citizenry abject poverty. I believe the campaign focus will be on the few undecided voters. This category of persons when shown and educated on some hidden facts of maladministration especially on gross embezzlement, many shades of corruption, selective justice and deceits will reach early conclusions on which camp to give their mandate.”

“I should think the ruling party’s focus should be more on damage control to enable them offer seeming apologies to millions of Nigerians they have disappointed and the millions they have put in the labour market through their ill performance in government.

So, the issue of campaign promises will not hold water for the Buhari camp as their participation in this election is just for posterity to be subtle in judgment of failure,” he said

Shaibu expressed optimism that the Atiku’s policy document will sell the party to Nigerians in the 2019 general elections, which according to him will lead to a landslide victory for the party.

According to him, ‘’The cardinal principle of any good government or party is the manifesto. Atiku has a robust manifesto which Nigerians cannot resist. Only the PDP manifesto mentions what the party is going to do for the Nigerians.”

Politics / 2019: How North West Showed Nigerians Have Rejected Buhari by celinajumbo11(f): 12:16pm On Dec 06, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said the “mammoth crowd of supporters” that received its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the North-West Presidential zonal rally in Sokoto State was an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari has been rejected by Nigerians.

PDP said the crowd was a clear demonstration that “Nigerians, across the board, have reached a consensus to vote Atiku in as the next president of our country.”

In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP said people of the North West showed patriotism by rejecting Buhari.
The statement reads, “The campaign council appreciates and commends the courage and show of patriotism by the people of the North- West in rejecting President Buhari and sectional politics to support Atiku Abubakar, in keeping with the collective quest to unify our nation and revamp our ailing economy.

“Atiku Abubakar’s acceptance by the North-West establishes the common feeling among Nigerians that he embodies a practical solution to the myriad of problems brought upon our nation by Muhammadu Buhari’s incompetent, divisive, repressive and insensitive administration.

“The massive reception expresses the confidence of the North-West in Atiku Abubakar’s proven pro-poor stance; his standing affinity with the down-trodden and his demonstrated competence, capacity and political will to revamp our economy, end starvation, sectional acrimony, human rights abuse and humongous corruption, which the Buhari administration has unleashed on our nation in the last three and half years.

“We, therefore, urge the people of the North-West and Nigerians in general, to continue to stand in unity in their resolution to vote for Atiku Abubakar as the next President and free our nation from the clutches of his misrule.”

His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Monday visited the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu for some consultations and to seek his understanding over the choice of Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate.

On the entourage of H.E Atiku Abubakar were the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, who is also the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus; and the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Col. Austin Akobundu (retd.).

It was learnt that the visit was for consultation with Ekweremadu as a run up to the 2019 polls.

With news making round the clock regarding the start of the campaign, it was imperative to carry out such visit to Ekweremadu. It was gathered that the entourage asked for his support which he obliged; and also explained to him that Obi was picked in the interest of the zone in particular and the nation in general.

It was said, “He was told that Obi does not have any corruption case against him and that he does not belong to any faction of the party.

“He was also told that Obi’s emergence has further raised the acceptability level of the PDP across the country.”
Meanwhile, the party has scheduled its National Executive Committee meeting for Thursday in Abuja.

Our correspondent gathered that the meeting would approve the full composition of the council and also vet its budget for the campaigns.

Secondus confirmed the inauguration of the campaign council to our correspondent on the telephone.

“Yes, we are meeting on Thursday and the campaign will be inaugurated same day,” he said.
