President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday joined Christians to celebrate Christmas in a service held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Maitama, Abuja. He was accompanied to the service by his wife, Patience; his mother, Eunice, top government officials including ministers and other members of the Federal Executive Council. In a short remark, the President urged politicians to watch their utterances ahead of the 2015 general elections. The Old Testament reading for the service was taken by the President’s wife from Isaiah 9:2,6 and 7 while the President read the Epistle from Hebrews 1:1-12.The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, in his sermon titled “The Jewish messianic expectations and 2015 elections,” taken from Isaiah 61 urged those who seek political offices at all levels to be aware that Nigerians have huge expectations from them.He said their decisions, when they finally get the positions they are seeking, should be guided by such expectations. He further urged them to be concerned about the total wellbeing of the people.

Former captain of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, on Friday led a group known as PDP Ward 2 Ward Initiative to the Presidential Villa Abuja to endorse President Goodluck Jonathan for second term.

Addressing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with the president, Yobo said Jonathan deserved a second term to continue the “good work” he had started.

The ex-international, who is the group’s brand ambassador, said the president had done so well for the youth and called on them to re-elect him in 2015.

He stated that his organisation had a short, medium and long-term plan to partner the president on his transformation agenda.

“I’m here to endorse His Excellency, the president of our great nation, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, for his re-election. He has done so well.
I stand here as a youth to say that he deserves a second term to push forward the good work he has started.
I do believe in the legacy of the transformation agenda, and that’s why this Ward 2 Ward Initiative is building on that legacy.”

“The president has done so well. The youth now have their own power, they have their own beliefs and they should understand that they have their rights in their own hands. They should follow what Mr President has started.”

“The youth should come forward and believe in Mr President. Everybody should come out to vote for him.
It’s your choice, but as an individual and as a face of the youth, I recognise what he has done.
The future is for the youth. We need to stand up and look into the future, not just now.
If we don’t settle down and take responsibility as youths and be able to follow what Mr President has done, then what does out future hold?”

The Nigerian Army has deployed 20 out of its over 200 working war dogs in the on-going war against Boko Haram insurgents in the country’s North-East.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, who disclosed this over the weekend, attributed the major breakthrough in the recovery of some communities held by the insurgents to a combination of the excellent performance of the war dogs, the resilience of the troops and the determination by the armed forces to quickly restore peace in the region.

Minimah, who spoke on Saturday during the commissioning of kennels for military war dogs in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, said that contemporary security challenges have necessitated the deployment of other aspects of tackling insurgency and war in addition to human personnel and weapons.

A Channels TV reports quotes him as stressing that the presence of more than 20 military working dogs deployed to the North-East has proved beneficial to the operations.

The report says that at the commissioning ceremony, some of the dogs, which range between the ranks of Privates and Lance Corporal, displayed some of their skills to the delighted audience.
