Politics › My Advice To Nigerians - Get Your Bicycles by ceomike(op): 4:06pm On Jan 05, 2012
Lets stop this motion on Facebook

Only God knows the day, this troubles would end in our country Nigeria.

We own fuel and cannot even enjoy it.

Personally, I believe as providers of crude, We have all the rights in this world to buy petrol even at N10 per litre.

But the selfish desires of our leaders is not helping.

Some claimed to be named Goodluck, whereas its as if they have brought to us Badluck.

I am not worried though but just fear a big fall.

What gives us hope is that we have great men of God who would pray to God for us.

We dont need leaders or rulers, we need intercessors.

My advice is this, while you are still protesting the fuel subsidy poo, go get your bicycles before it becomes so expensive.

God help us.

General Mohammadu Buhari has decided to accept the court’s decision but has warned that Nigeria might be heading “down the slope”.

He said:

“Those in charge of the country should be warned that promises and sweet words are no substitute for practical action,” he said.

He however suggested solutions to the problems the country is facing:

He suggested measures that must be taken immediately.

“To avert the looming chaos in the New Year, immediate steps should be taken to drastically reduce the cost of governance in the three tiers of government. Salaries and especially allowances should be drastically reduced; security votes should be abolished – not increased as the 2012 Budget has done.

He continued, “Votes for the Armed Forces, Police and Security Services should be transparent and accountable; foreign travel and estacodes should be stopped for at least six months other than for the Presidency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and medical emergencies. Government House expenses in all the states should be drastically reduced, foreign travel suspended for a while.

A Federal High Court, Lagos, has found an American, Parker Damian George, guilty of money laundering.

The court ordered a forfeiture of 40 per cent of the total sum found on him at the point of arrest.

According to a statement by the Acting Head, Media and Publicity, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, the trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, convicted George under the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011.

George was said to have been arrested on November 29 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos during a secondary check at the boarding gate with $42,700.

Uwujaren stated that the convict was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agent and was handed over to the EFCC for prosecution.

He stated that the court considered the convict as a first offender without previous criminal record when it ordered that he should forfeit 40 per cent of the total undeclared sum found on him at the point of arrest.

The charge preferred against the convict by the EFCC read in part, “That on or about November 30, 2011 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court failed to make a declaration of the sum of USD 42,700 (Forty two thousand and seven hundred dollars) which you were transporting from Nigeria to the United States of America to the Nigerian Customs Service as required under section 2(3) of the Money Laundering Act of 2011 and Section 12 of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provision) Act Cap. Popular Nigerian artiste Ice Prince Zamani had an interview with Sunday Express and he did give them an exclusive story.

I had my first intimate encounter at 13. It’s something I regret whatever it was. I had this aunty, though we were not related, she was just a neighbour who was  living close to us, who came into my room and slept with me. She just came into my room and just forced me to do it with her. I was so young and innocent and she made me lose my innocence. It wasn’t a sweet experience at all. I was very scared. I saw hell. It was a terrible experience. I am not excited talking about it at all. Sex is not that good. I think sex is overrated. The aunt who slept with me is still alive. But I haven’t seen her since then.”

According to the legal docs, Vanessa is asking for joint custody of their 2 daughters — 8-year-old Natalia and 5-year-old Giana — but Vanessa is asking that Kobe get visitation rights, which means she wants the kids in her care most of the time.

Politics › Jonathan Warns Continued Subsidy Could Crash Economy by ceomike(op): 4:13pm On Dec 16, 2011
President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that continued spending on fuel subsidy, amounting to nearly a third of the national budget, could crash the economy in two or three years.

In moves to get students' support for deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, President Goodluck Jonathan has told student leaders that Nigeria's future of a growing economy with jobs and prosperity for youths depends on difficult decisions made today.

He told student leaders from National Association of Nigerian Students this week that Nigeria's expenditure pattern was lopsided and couldn't meet the economic aspirations of Nigerians, calling it an obvious road to disaster.

With an annual budget that is 26% capital expenditure and 74% recurrent, he said, government had to borrow every year because of huge budget deficit it was compelled to implement.

This is in spite of a huge subsidy burden of N1.3 trillion on fuel consumption, the president added, a figure that approximates to nearly a third of the annual budget.

The meeting was held in the presence of vice president Namadi Sambo, ministers and other presidential staff and advisers.

Difficult decision

The president noted that past governments have avoided taking the "difficult decision" and resorted to borrowing to fund government transactions and piling up huge domestic debts that threaten the future of young Nigerians.

Running to banks to float bonds and borrow more money was an option to play nice, he said, but that would increase Nigeria's already unacceptable domestic debt level.

In obvious reference to getting more refining capacity, the president warned that government price control mechanism on fuel has stopped investors wanting to build private refineries which is thought would increase product volume for domestic use and export.

At least 20 licences have been issued so far to private investors in refineries, the president added.

Finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke to the student leaders earlier, said deregulating the downstream petroleum sector was one urgent measure to address danger signals in the economy.

She added that government also had to address leakages in the economy and set up aggressive strategies to earn more from other sectors including maritime.
