A Chinese hacker surnamed Zeng, has been arrested for leaking personal information belonging to more than 6 million users of the China Software Developer Network (CSDN). Zeng has been detained on charges of illegal acquisition of computer data.

Zeng was supposed to has done the leaking as at December 2011 exposing user names, passwords, and e-mail addresses belonging to online shopping, gaming, social networking, and even financial service websites.

FAAN goes "manual check in" as she terminates Maevis Concession Contract.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has terminated its concession agreement with Maevis Nigeria Ltd and evicted it from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Friday.
FAAN alleged it is disadvantaged in the concession thus had to wield the big stick. It also said Maevis turned down all overtures to renegotiate the agreement.



FAAN immediately announced another service provider, Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA) to take over the revenue collection at $1.40 per passenger processed through airports hitherto managed by Maevis.

Managing Director of FAAN, George Uriesi announced this at a press conference in Lagos on Saturday.
Uriesi said: "We acknowledge that the commercial transaction that led to the Maevis concession was sub-optimal for FAAN. We approached this organization several times asking to renegotiate the terms of our agreement.

"This organization refused to accept our renegotiation offer; our board severally approached this organization, pleading with them to come back to the table to renegotiate the terms of the agreement so that it would become a win-win for both parties, the organization refused to do this."
Consequently, he said, FAAN gave the former concessionaire a termination notice on February 24, 2011 which expired May 23, 2011.

"So, on May 23, 2011, the concession agreement between FAAN, and Maevis terminated. This is almost a year ago. It took us a while...we physically terminated it. The immediate consequence of this is significantly increased cash flow for FAAN," Uriesi said.

He stated that the new arrangement is without extra charge or the 35 per cent management fee charged by Maevis.

Uriesi further said that the fate that had befallen Maevis was a signal to other concessionaires with sub-optimal agreements that the "bazaar is over" and that they would be treated the same way to ensure a total transformation of FAAN especially in the areas of commercial agreements and the revenue generating sources and capabilities of the agency so that all its accruable revenues would come into its coffers.

"We are dismantling all sub-optimal concessions with FAAN. People have to do things the way they are done all over the world. From now on, we have to put a template in place for concession. We will put in place criteria for concession. If the agreement will not give us the required benefits, we will not go into it," he said.
However, the Executive Director of Maevis, Tokunbo Fagbemi alleged that FAAN used extra-judicial means to evict it from the airport.

She also alleged that in the process of the forceful eviction, FAAN's aviation security personnel who were armed with cudgels, chain saws and drilling machines vandalised Maevis platform, data centres, biometric-controlled doors and some other assets.

She described FAAN's conduct as shameful and despicable and called on the presidency to "help protect our investment and stop these acts of impunity."

A 23 years old Aussie woman Sarah Jane Cochrane-Ramsey was employed by some Nigerians as an "agent" in March 2010 but was unaware they were scam artists, the Brisbane District Court heard today.

Her job was to provide an Australian bank account through which they could funnel any payments they received through their dodgy account on a popular car sales website. Cochrane-Ramsey was to keep eight per cent of all money paid into her account and forward the rest to the Nigerian scammers.

However, the court heard that the Brisbane based Aussie women kept the two payments she received - totalling $33,350 and spent most of it on herself. The car buyers who were ripped off reported the matter to police, who traced the account to Cochrane-Ramsey.

Police inquiries found her employers were based in Nigeria but had been using a web server in New York to run their dodgy car sales listings. Cochrane-Ramsey pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated fraud on Thursday.

Judge Terry Martin described her as having a "dishonest bent" after hearing she had a history of stealing and property offences.

He adjourned the sentence to allow her time to provide further details of money she claimed was in a bank account that would allow her to make some repayments. Cochrane-Ramsey will be sentenced next month.

How did you actually come about the bombast with which you speak?

Well, this question can be answered from a bifurcated fons et origo.

A lawyer for the Nigerian man who pleaded guilty to trying to blow up a United States jumbo passenger jet on Christmas Day in 2009 urged a federal judge on Monday not to sentence to Farouk Abdulmutallab spend the rest of his life in prison because it was cruel and unusual punishment.

Abdulmutallab, 25, pleaded guilty in a federal court in October 2011 of trying to detonate a bomb hidden in his underwear as part of a plot orchestrated by al Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

He is due to be sentenced on Thursday in Detroit and faces up to life in prison for the bombing attempt aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit that had 289 people on board.

His lawyer Anthony Chambers argued that the mandatory life sentence required under US law for some of the crimes he admitted to committing was unconstitutional, particularly because no one was seriously hurt during the bombing attempt.

“Given the circumstances and what did NOT occur in the instant matter it is fair to say that the mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment is excessive and grossly disproportionate to the conduct,” Chambers said in a court filing, emphasising the word “not.”

While not making a specific request, he requested on Abdulmutallab’s behalf that the judge impose a sentence below the advisory guideline range because a life sentence would be a “misinterpretation of justice.”

The Federal Government on Monday in Abuja expressed appreciation on the significant progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, but declared that the country records 281,000 new infections yearly.

According to the Federal Government, only 400,000 persons living with the disease are receiving drugs out of the 3 million people currently affected. About 1.5 million people are required to be on life saving anti-retroviral drugs.

The Director-General of the National Action Committee on AIDS, Prof. John Idoko, stated this at the zonal consultations on ownership for sustainable HIV response where he also attributed the irregular funding of NACA by donor agencies to global meltdown in the past three years.

He said, “We have seen very significant progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Nigeria – more than 25 per cent HIV decline between 2001 and 2009. However, we still have very significant gaps.

“Nigeria has the largest burden of transmission of mother child of HIV in the world – 30 per cent with about 70,000 children born every year with HIV. These children hardly live to see their third birthday without treatment.”

Idoko said much remained to be accomplished if future generations were to live in a world in which the threat of AIDS had been overcome.

He said, “If we are to transform the landscape of AIDS, it must remain high on the national and global agenda.

“We must move to a response that is long-term and sustainable-one that makes full use of the knowledge and resources developed over the past three decades, yet continues and respond to a changing world that is constantly influencing the future of AIDS.”

The NACA boss also called on donor agencies to ensure regular funding of the agency.

He said, “Funding remains largely externally driven and this is unsustainable. Over 80 per cent of our funding for the AIDS response is from donors.”

Lokoja — BARELY six hours after the acting governor of the Kogi state, Hon. Abdullahi Bello sacked the state executive council, the state governor elect, Captain Idris Wada alongside his deputy governor elect, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi yesterday resumed in their respective offices as the duly elected governor and deputy governor of the state.

On assumption in the office of the state governor, sources informed our correspondent that Captain Wada directed all political appointees of the out-gone governor of the state to ignore the sack order of the acting governor and go about their normal government activities.

Captain Wada and his deputy came into government house around 12 noon escorted by heavily armed policemen and operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) who gave him a safe passage to the office of the governor of the state.

Though, the acting governor, Hon. Abdullahi Bello was not seen in the office of the governor, his close aides informed newsmen that the acting governor is still in Abuja on the invitation of the Vice-President, insisting that their boss is the still the acting governor of the state according to the judgment of the Supreme Court.

The sources said that Captain Wada was acting on the instruction of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which validated his victory as the governor-elect of Kogi state having won the 3rd December, 2011 Kogi state governorship election and also issued with a certificate of return as the duly elected governor of Kogi state.

Later in a statewide broadcast, Captain Wada pointed out that the Supreme Court judgment as it relates to Kogi state came with its own challenges, adding that, "while we are not eager to carry out a post mortem of those events, they must be seen as teething problems of an emerging democracy.

"I wish to assure all the good people of Kogi state that rather than allow those events to distract us from the our set goals, my deputy and I saw them and tackled them as our first major challenge of leadership in the state.

"Every single step we took was guided by the full consciousness that all this is not about us, it is not about power or our personal ambition or ego; it is about a sacred mandate which all our people gave us to chart the course that will take Kogi state to where it ought to be.

"We therefore earnestly urge all our people to appreciate that no matter which zone we come from and no matter what we profess, we are all part of something greater than us: which is our dear Kogi state.

"I am therefore appealing to all the good people of the state to let us quickly put the events of the last few days behind us and remain focused as a united and indivisible people. Let me remind us that at the end of the day what will count are not the points of conflict, but how strong we came out of it as family".

He then added that government will in a very short period constitute a committee of stakeholders from across the state to reconcile all aggrieved parties in order to ensure that the genuine grievances of any of the parties are not overlooked.

Daily Champion further gathered from source that the plot by hers sponsors was to keep her till their expected arrival from Kano after the 2 pm Jumat prayers would have been over and then, instruct her to fellow the crowd that usually prays outside the premises inside unchecked, to pave way for them to effectively detonate the bomb.

According to the source when the next instruction from her sponsors delayed in coming, the visibly worried attempted in entering the complex through the gate meant for only motorist then she was asked by the private guard where she was going.

She could not satisfy the guard about her mission with her poorly spoken English which made the security man to suspect her motive.

She was said to have managed to inform the security man that she was waiting for her brother, at this point the guard ask her to identify herself and she said she was coming from Kano this made security guy curious as the bomber was quickly arrested.

Our source told us that the lady confessed that when the JUMAT ended she actually became unhappy and afraid that she was going to kill so many Muslims who came out from the FCTA premises to pray.

Our correspondent further learnt that when the FCT Minister heard about the incident he ordered that the lady be brought to his official residence where he was at the moment and upon confession of the planned attack the female bomber was handed -over to the Police Special Anti- robbery Squared (SARS).

While she was being detained at the SARS office in Guzape, District, her sponsors gut wind of it and made attempt to bomb the SARS office in order to prevent her from revealing important information.

All attempt by our correspondent to speak with the FCDA Divisional of Police Officer as well as the Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on security proved abortive as several calls put across to the DPO phone were not answered.

In the same vain Prince Shield Nwazuruahu SA security to the minister was said to be in a crucial meeting by his staff when Daily Champion visited his office.

Meanwhile, Daily Champion gathered that an emergency security meeting which was held yesterday took a decision that no staff should stay within the office complex beyond 6 pm.

The circular entitled: Improving Security around the FCTA Secretariat dated 30th January 2012, decided among others issues that no private car should be allowed to park within in the premises.

It was also agreed in the meeting that members of staff who expect any visitor must send the name of such visitor to the security personnel for clearance.

The circular which was sent to all the secretariats and departmental heads as was well as aides of the minister also warned staff against bringing non- staff members in their vehicles.
