Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has presented a 2012 appropriation bill of N148.87 billion, aimed at enhancing quality governance.

Governor Oshiomhole who took time to account for the 2011 budget said his administration has recorded tremendous gains having successfully implemented over 80% of the capital expenditure for the 2011 budget.

He reported that his administration has so far constructed 550 Kilometers of road across 400 communities, reconstructed 76 primary and secondary schools, 61 others are under construction while contracts has been awarded for the reconstruction of another 52 schools.

The Governor highlighted his administrations achievement in the areas of flood and erosion control, health, water, sports, rural electrification among others.

He said the 2012 budget seeks to accelerate completion of ongoing infrastructural projects, as well as extend projects to other communities and critical areas of deficits, maintenance, employment and wealth creation.

The 2012 budget as proposed is N14.98 billion excess of the 2011 budget. Out of the total, N84.9 billion is proposed as capital expenditure, while N63.97 billion is earmarked as recurrent expenditure.

Some residents commended the performance of the 2011 budget and described the 2012 budget proposal as holding great prospects for Edo state.

The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for Edo State was N1 billion in excess of the projected 10.68 Billion for 2011 and the state government said it is resolved for even more aggressive IGR drive boost its capacity to fund its operations through the IGR.

Governor Oshiomhole said the budget intends to cover road, flooding and erosion control infrastructures and primary education.

A photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation.

It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People’s Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous boas found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province.

They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

“On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared,” said the post.

“At the same time, another gold coloured giant boa appeared with its mouth wide open. The driver was paralysed with fear, while the other workers ran for their lives.

“By the time the workers came back, the wounded boa had died, while the other snake had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn’t even stand up.”

The post claimed that the digger driver was so traumatised that he suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital and later died.

The dead snake was 55ft (16.7m) long, weighed 300kg and was estimated to be 140 years old, according to the post.

However, local government officials in Guiping say the story and photograph are almost certainly a hoax as giant boas are not native to the area.

We reliably gathered that the two expensive cars were handed over to Jim by his close friends who is based in UK to take care of pending when they will return to Nigeria and have need to use the cars.

Rather than adhering to his agreement with his pals,Jim not only hit the streets of Abuja with the automobiles but also alleged falsified information that he acquired the two cars for N16 million.

According to his close pals,the truth about the real owners of those cars came to the open last week when they stormed Abuja and demanded their Camero SS Convertible and Plymouth Prowler Convertible from the talented actor.

Jim’s close friends who begged anonymity disclosed that on seeing the cars they became furious and insisted that Jim has on the process of using their cars inflicted damages on them,after minutes of argument they told him that the case will be settled at the Police Station as they were ready to invite the Police over.

Immediately they left his compound,Jim allegedly ran away from his house and left the two cars where his embittered friends can easily pick them and leave in peace.

They equally revealed to us that the Nollywood actor gave the media false information concerning the cost price of these automobiles,as they got the cars with N13.3 million.They insisted that they got the dark color Plymouth Prowler for $43,000 while Camero SS went for $40,000.

However,Jim had already left his mansion when they arrived with the Police;it was informed that they quietly left with their cars.It is not clear if Jim has moved back to his house now,as sources informed that till penultimate weekend,Jim was still unable to return to his house.

It was equally disclosed to us that most of former posh cars paraded by Jim Iyke do not really belong to him,as his friends who are based in UK,US,Europe and Canada usually give him cars to keep for them till their return,while others send cars for him to sell.

In these situations,Jim is said to have flaunted the cars as if they rightfully belong to him.

Such cars include;Chryslers,Rolls Royce,Range Rover,G-Wagon and many others.

Gas Flare Drops To 19% – Nnpc

Nigeria National Pertoleum Corporation (NNPC) says  gas flare in the country has reduced significantly and stands at 19.54 per cent. The development was attributed to increased utilisation of gas for power generation, export and industrial applications.

According to the latest edition Monthly Petroleum Information (MPI) from the NNPC obtained by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eket, 197.62 Billion Standard Cubic Feet (BSCF) of gas was produced while 159.02 BSCF was utilised. The MPI was published on NNPC’s web portal on November 1, 2011.

A total of 38.60 BSCF about 19.5 per cent of total gas production were flared at the oil fields in onshore and offshore oil fields in Nigeria. Also 83,768 Metric Tons of Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) was produced by both the Joint Venture and Production Sharing Companies in the Oil and Gas sector for the period under review. Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) which operates a joint venture with NNPC accounted for 51 per cent (42,271 MT) while NNPC was credited with 49 per cent (41,047MT) of the volume.

According to the Petroleum statistics MPN flared 6.2 BSCF, about 20.7 per cent of its total associated gas. Agip however flared the highest quantity of 9.14 BSCF, 23.36 per cent of its produced gas , while Total Exploration and Production flare the least gas volume of 2.04 BSCF , 9.57 per cent in the joint venture category.

Operations at Mobil’s 1.3 billion dollars sEast Area Natural Gas to Liquids projects has reduced the oil firm’s gas flare figures from about 40 per cent to 20 per cent and improved oil recovery at the Qua Iboe oil fields.

The upstream oil industry highlight also showed that total Crude Oil and Condensates produced during the period was 72.68 million barrels, averaging 2.34 million barrels per day by Joint Venture Company, Production Sharing Contracts and Marginal Oil Field Operators.

In June 2011, global emissions from gas flaring alone were more than half the annual Certified Emissions Reductions (624 million tons) currently issued under the Kyoto’s Clean Development Mechanisms.(data as of June 2011) Gas flaring emissions in some oil-producing countries, represent about one third of their total CO2 emissions, according to Nigeria’s National Communication to the UNFCCC.

Fashola Orders Demolition Of Churches, Houses Inside Birch Freeman School


No fewer than three churches and some houses that are illegally erected inside Birch Freeman High School, Surulere, Lagos, have been marked for demolition by the state government, while occupants have been served with a quit notice.

The state governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, gave the directive on Tuesday, while presenting a new block of 21 classrooms to the school.

Fashola, who was angry to see his alma mater disfigured with illegal structures, said that the development would see the demolition of the Peace of God Mission Church building, as well as houses which had sprung up within the  premises of the school.

He said: “Let me use this opportunity to notify all squatters or occupiers of the land that belongs to Birth Freeman High School that the trespass ends today and your relocation must start henceforth, as I intend working with the Old Boys Association to reclaim and return back to the school every inch of land that used to belong to her.”

He said he would stop at nothing to ensure that every inch of land belonging to the school and lost to encroachers would be recovered.

According to him, the drainage work required to solve the constant flood encroachment during rainy seasons would necessitate the need to recover the land initially owned by the school.

Speaking on the new classrooms, Fashola said it was borne out of the infrastructure decay that had hit the school, which formed his character as well as the leadership and punctuality values he exhibits today.

Moses Ayanwole, a Nigerian taxi driver based in the Republic of Ireland has been killed. He was attacked by a passenger in his car on Monday.

According to sources, Moses was punched in the head, and he fell heavily on to the ground as his taxi was parked on Pearse Street near Erne Street junction. After the attack, he fell into a coma and died yesterday at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin after suffering serious head injuries.

This is coming days after another Nigerian taxi driver was killed in the USA.

President Goodluck Jonathan opening ceremony of the biennial Honourary International Investors Council Meeting (HIIC) in Paris, assured Nigerians that his administration would deal with he menace of Boko Haram

``With the renewed vigour by Nigeria's security agencies to curb the menace of Boko Haram, the existence of the group in the shores of Nigeria will soon be history,'' he said.

The President decried the hijacking of Boko Haram by prominent politicians, describing the development as ``unfortunate''.

``There must be concrete evidence before you make an arrest to avoid blackmail of the government because when very senior politicians are involved such as a distinguished senator one must get his facts right.

``Unfortunately, a serving senator, a distinguished senator is one of the suspects,'' the President said.
