Man kills only son, burns wife with hot pressing iron Crime Alert By Ifeanyi Okolie While waiting for the Easter celebration to commence properly last Sunday, residents of Lambe Street, Ago-Palace Way, Okota area of Lagos State were jolted from sleep, following loud painful cries from a neighbour’s apartment at 3, Lambe Street. They rushed into the apartment only to realize that the scream was that of a woman who was being brutalized by her husband over claims that she was flirting with his own father. To their chagrin, they also found the lifeless body of their one-year-old male child lying in a pool of blood. CONFUSION as police arrive: Confused, some of the neighbours quickly rushed out and contacted the police at Ago-Okota Division on sighting the corpse. On arriving the scene, detectives arrested the man and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital. The wife, who was simply identified as Mrs. Nnamdi, is currently lying unconscious in an hospital. The husband allegedly used hot pressing iron to inflict wounds all over her body. Scene of incident, 3, Lambe Street, Ago-Okota, Lagos A neighbour who spoke with Crime Alert said the man, identified as Mr. Henry Nnamdi, had alleged that the wife was sleeping with his own father and that the only child they had was not his biological child. A neighbour who craved for anonymity told Crime Alert: “The man killed his baby boy by hitting his head on the ground. The day was still dark when we started hearing screams from their apartment. Some of us who came out of our apartments following the screams contemplated whether to go in or not, but while we were still doing this, the screams intensified and the woman started shouting that he was using hot pressing iron on her. We then forced the door open. When we got in, we found the woman tied to a chair and their baby was lying dead on the floor. Those who couldn’t stand the sight ran out and contacted the police.” Allegation of infidelity: Police sources said the incident blew open after the man allegedly tortured the wife following a quarrel over alleged infidelity on the part of the woman. The man allegedly held the woman hostage in their bed room, tied her to a chair and plugged a pressing iron which he used to run over all her body including her private part. Swift arrival of policemen Screams from the woman attracted the attention of neighbours who quickly alerted the police at Ago-Okota Station. A team of policemen swiftly arrived the scene and arrested the man after which they rushed the woman to a nearby hospital where doctors are battling to revive her from unconsciousness. Father dumbfounded: Eyewitness account said the father of the man who quickly rushed to the police station on hearing the news was dumbfounded when he was told that the son perpetrated the heinous act over allegations that he, the father, was sleeping with the son’s wife. At this point, the visibly shocked man lamented publicly that it is a taboo for him to indulge in that kind of act, stating that he had severally in the past warned the son to stop maltreating the wife. He reportedly disclosed further that the wife had run to his house several times to escape being brutalized by the husband and each time, he would not only rebuke his son but provide money for his family so that there would be peace. At the time of this report, the wife of the man whom hospital sources said may have suffered first degree burns, was still lying unconscious in a private hospital at Ago-Palace way, while her husband is in police cell. A neighbour reacts: Efforts made to speak with the father of the suspect were not successful as the man was said to had left the police station in tears, agonizing openly the fate that befell members of his family. But a neighbour at their 3, Lambe Street, apartment corroborated claims of the man’s father stating that the father had been mediating between the son and his wife for a long time. According to the man who simply identified himself as Papa Ginika, “I am going to allow the man’s father, whenever you meet him, to tell you the character of his son because he knows him very well. But, on the allegation that the father was sleeping with his wife, Henry was only trying to rope the man into this mess. “I know that man very well and I can vouch for him. He can not sleep with his son’s wife for any reason. But I know that the son’s grievance is that his father has not been supporting him each time he maltreated his wife. He normally comes here to abuse his son and ask him to stop beating the wife. Too many quarrels “They got married only two years ago and I really don’t know what actually went wrong in that marriage. But I discovered that the man and his wife have been having too many quarrels and his father has been coming to settle the crisis. I really don’t know what got into Henry’s head the day he did that. I see no reason why he would kill his only child that I usually see crawl around the compound with other kids. And since this incident occurred, I have been trying to erase the picture of the woman carrying her child. When I saw the dead child, I was the one looking for a jute bag (Ghana-Must Go) to carry the corpse for burial.” Concerted efforts made to speak with the suspect inside the cell failed as the police insisted that he could only speak when the case gets to SCID, Panti. When Crime Alert visited the hospital where the woman was admitted, doctors said she was still unconscious and advised that the police should authorize all visitations. It was also not possible to trace the father of the suspect as he was said to have gone back to his own house. Police reacts Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police spokesman, Joseph Jaiyaoba told Crime Alert that the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, today for further investigations assuring that justice must prevail at the end of the day. |

Robbers hijack luxury bus, rape students By OUR REPORTERS Monday, April 02, 2012 Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Armed robbers at the weekend hijacked a luxury bus near Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State raping secondary school students who were coming home for the Easter holiday. The bus was coming from Enugu to Lagos, but waylaid by the robbers, who barricaded the road about 11.30p.m. on Saturday The bus was hired by a Catholic secondary school (name withheld) to convey the students to Lagos. Daily Sun gathered that the bus the students originally boarded left Enugu at about 7.30am but broke down on the road and another was sent to pick up the passengers. It was gathered that the new bus was not also in good order and broke down several times on the way. A passenger, who simply identified herself as Franca, said at Ore in Ondo State, the passengers appealed to the driver to stop as it was already night but the driver was adamant, preferring to continue with the journey. Franca said somewhere near Ijebu Ode, some hoodlums barricaded the road and the driver was forced to stop. She said the robbers, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, ordered the passengers who were mostly female students into the bush and had field day raping them. She said the robbers, no fewer than 20, did not stop at raping the females but also dispossessed them of money, phones and other personal effects. She revealed that two girls suffered worse fate as most of the robbers who identified the two girls as virgins had rounds of sex with them. Relatives of the victims yesterday stormed the head office of the transport company at the Jibowu area of Yaba Lagos protesting what they termed negligence on the part of the company. The relatives, who vowed to take the company to court, wondered why the driver of the ill-fated bus did not pass the night at Ore if he did not allegedly connive with the hoodlums. Spokesman of the relatives, who simply identified himself as Mr. Martins, said they had gone to the Lagos State command to report the matter but they were referred to Ogun State since the attack did not happen in Lagos but Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State. Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer on phone proved abortive. He was said to be attending a seminar. However, Lagos State Police spokesman, Jaiyeoba Joseph, confirmed that some people actually came to the state command to report the incident but were referred to Ogun State. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2012/apr/02/national-02-04-2012-001.html |

Boko Haram captures runaway member … In commando raid •Three more killed in Kano, Jos …CDS: We’ll restrategise security to checkmate group ACF to Nigerians: Let’s stop sect now From ABDULGAFAR ALABELEWE and NAFISAT BELLO, Kaduna, MARIAM ALESHINLOYE-AGBOOLA, Jos and DESMOND NGBOH, Kano, Tuesday, March 13, 2012 Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Fed up with life as a terrorist, a Boko Haram member, Mallam Sulaiman Isah, has decided to settle down to raise a family six months ago. But he regretted the decision yesterday. He relocated from Maiduguri, Borno State, the base of the Islamist sect to marry in Kaduna where he operated as a drycleaner in Ungwan Sanusi area of the metropolis until yesterday when in a commando style, he was captured from his residence. As Isah was being led away, he was screaming, “yan, Boko Haram ne” meaning, They are Boko Haram members, ” even as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) said all Nigerians must join hands to stop the sect. Also on Sunday, barely few hours after the Islamist sect attacked St Finbarr’s Catholic Church, Rayfield, Jos, which claimed seven lives and 11 others in a reprisal by irate youths, the gunmen killed three Christians at Chugwi village, also in Plateau State same day even as 11 more bodies were recovered yesterday. In yet another incident, Boko Haram, on Monday attacked a police station in Kano, injuring two officers on duty even as a sect member was disarmed and killed by policemen also in the metropolis. Mallam Isah, a dry cleaner, who resides in Kwana Mai shai of Ungwa Sanusi in Kaduna South Local Government Area, fled from the sect in Maiduguri and relocated to Kaduna about six months ago. A source who did not want to be named, told our correspondent who visited the area that, Mallam Isah repented from being a terrorist for fear of being killed, ran to Kaduna for safety. The source noted that “Isah secretly went back to Maiduguri to pick his fiancé whom he later got married to in Kaduna two months ago. Unknown to him, his movements and activities were being monitored by the sect members who eventually trailed him to Kaduna”. He said, “the taking away of Mallam Isah caused so much panic in the area. When they came, we thought they were security operatives, they were about seven of them and they came into the compound at about 6:30pm some few minutes before the Magrib prayers. “They were shooting sporadically into the air and went straight for Mallam Isah who was performing ablution and whisked him into their vehicle, a Toyota Hiace Bus and zoomed off immediately”. Another eyewitness who identified himself as Malam Shehu, said that, “as he was being taken away, Isah was screaming ‘Yan Boko Haram ne! ‘Yan Boko Haram ne!! (They are Boko Haram members!) Yet, nobody could come to his rescue because the men were heavily armed”. However, soldiers arrested eight Boko Haram suspects at Ungwa Sarki some hours later. But the spokesman of the Nigerian Army I Divisional Headquarters, Kaduna, Colonel Abubakar Edun, denied any knowledge of such arrest. Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the state police command, a Deputy Superintendent, Aminu Lawan also said, he had not been briefed of any arrest. Meanwhile, the ACF while condemning the suicide bomb blast that claimed 18 lives and destroyed properties worth millions of naira at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church, Rayfield, Jos, on Sunday, said Nigerians would be helping Boko Haram to succeed in its plan to destroy Nigeria if they fail to collectively checkmate their activities. A statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony N. Z. Sani, said: “The Forum heartily condoles with the government and people of Plateau State, with the Catholic Church and families who lost loved ones and properties. “The forum is seriously disheartened by a situation whereby innocent men are indoctrinated to kill themselves and innocent others. The ACF and northern leaders reiterate that all Nigerians of all religions, all the regions and of all ethnic extractions must stand up and deny the common enemy the pleasure of knocking our heads and unleashing religious conflict–which will do no one any good. “If Nigerians fail to realize that the problem of insecurity across the nation is a collective responsibility aimed at checkmating the attackers, we would be helping them to succeed in their aspirations to destroy the country”, it reads. ACF charged all Nigerians to prevent terrorism through community policing by keeping an eye on people with suspicious movements. Amid rumour of fresh attack in Jos yesterday, there was a stampede even the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petrin said security chiefs would re-strategize on ways of checkmating Boko Haram. He was in Jos yesterday. Daily Sun learnt that Christian and Muslim youths had gathered at the Angwa Rukuba junction Monday morning, ready for a showdown following the news that a youth was killed at Angwa Rukuba but soldiers quickly got to the scene to prevent the situation from getting out of hand. The rumour of the attack got to most parts of Jos forcing traders to close their shops and rushing home while parents hurriedly went to schools to withdraw their children and wards. By noon, the situation in the state was back to normal with people opening up their shops. However, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Ishaya Pam, has confirmed that seven more bodies were brought yesterday morning while one was deposited in the hospital on Sunday and one other had died in the hospital earlier bringing the total of those who died to nine. The CDS who met with the security chiefs in Plateau State told journalists that he was told three people died at the church while three others gave up the ghost in the hospital bringing the total of people that died to six. After visiting the scene of the blast, the CDS who held a closed-door meeting with Governor Jonah Jang, assured that the same way the security surmounted other challenges in the country in the past they would overcome the current ordeal. According to him, “suicide bombing is an admittance of defeat (by the Boko Haram). It means you are not doing very well that is why you now allow members of your organization to start killing themselves. “Otherwise, if you can achieve your aims without getting your members killed, you will do so. But, because the terrorists behind all this act have discovered that they have no any other means of inconveniencing the society, they resort to suicide bombing”. Plateau State government spokesman, Pam Ayuba, said though the two Sunday attacks were not thought to be linked. “Unknown gunmen, in an apparent ambush late Sunday, waylaid and shot dead three people and injured three others -all Christians, in Chugwi village,” Ayuba said: We suspect that the attackers were herdsmen. They left with the handset of those killed and called numbers on their phones to alert their (the victims’) relations that they were responsible for the killings,” he said from the scene of the attack. Ayuba, who is a native of the Christian village, said no arrests have been made. The victims included two brothers aged 25 and 30, he said. Three other people at Dogo Garba, a nearby hamlet, were wounded by the same gunmen and were taken to a nearby government hospital, he added. In Kano on Sunday, a Boko Haram member was disarmed and killed by a police officer, a statement by the police, has claimed. According to the statement, which was made available to the Press on Monday, the incident happened at the residence of the said officer, adding that the gunmen came in a motorbike and attacked the officer. Giving an account of the incident, the statement noted that at about 9a.m on Sunday, two armed men attacked a police officer at his residence in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano, adding that the said officer disarmed one of the gunmen and shot him dead with the same riffle that he came with. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2012/mar/13/national-13-03-2012-001.html |

Hell was let loose on social network, Twitter during the week when a 14 year old kid took on Peter Okoye of the P-Square fame, lecturing him on the rules of grammar. Peter innocently took to Twitter to announce the lucky winner of the P-Suqare’s Fan of The Month give-away prize. Ok peeps check dis out!…dis person deserve to be my fan of the month. No ojoro, Peter tweeted. *Peter But unfortunately for the superstar, a brilliant 14 year-old girl would not let go of his wrong use of words, as she corrected him out-rightly, especially when he used the word ‘deserve’ in place of a singular noun of ‘deserves.’ English mistress thank u RT @Hazelavelie: *deserves RT @PeterPsquare: Ok peeps check dis out!…dis person deserve to be my fan of the month. No ojoro, he tweeted again. Unable to bear the insult after the little girl corrected his bad English, Peter rained insults on the little girl, wishing that he could see her face to face. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found on Twitter. Barking like a wounded dog, Peter vented his anger this way: I don’t think she’s up to 14yrs old and I don’t knw if she’s on twitter… But of cos her fbook name is Chantal Tcheou. Thank u my dear.RT @MumcieCJ: @PeterPsquare sum idiots on twitter looking out for people’s mistakes “in english” like dey are perfect. NONSENSE!!!Too know…., Peter blasted out. A drama occurred at one of the first generation banks in Akure, Ondo State capital, when a lady, simply identified as Sade, bathed a cashier (names withheld) with faeces inside the banking hall for allegedly snatching her husband. Customers and fellow bankers took to their heels as the assailant rained abuses after pouring the smelly substance on the lady banker. The ugly incident, which occurred on Friday, was quickly brought under control by security operatives attached to the bank. Sade, who pretended to be one of the customers, was said to have arrived the bank with a polythene bag and approached the cashier only to pour its contents on her. The stench took over the banking hall just as all the customers ran to the door to escape the odour. Sunday Vanguard gathered that the cashier was equally assaulted by the lady before she was bundled out by the bank guards. The management of the bank, after the ugly incident, arranged for the cashier to bath and change her clothes within the bank premises. One of the bankers told Sunday Vanguard: “All of us, including my colleague who was assaulted, were busy attending to customers when the young lady came in and started raining abusive words on the victim, in an embarrassing way. She called her unprintable names and accused her of snatching her husband. “We were shocked and we tried to shout her down only for her to open a polythene bag she carried, thinking that she wanted to make some deposit but what she brought out shocked everybody. “She removed the bag containing the terribly smelly faeces which she instantly poured on her victim”. The police public relations officer at the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, said the suspect had been arrested and detained by the police. Adeniran, said, “The incident happened around noon on Friday and the suspect, who is already with us, came to Akure from Owo with a can containing smelly faeces which she poured on the banker. “She will be charged to court after necessary investigations had been concluded on the case”. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/02/drama-in-bank-as-woman-bathes-cashier-with-faeces/ This is what happens when desperate ladies wont keep their emotions in check but will this stop the man from cheating on her? if he cheats with what make u think he wont cheat on u with another woman?
