Someone please help me out the catalyst 4 mY EOD was stolen and since then the fuel consumption has increased drastically. Pls how much does it cost?

pls someone help me mine has high fuel consumption and i was told the catalyst has been removed and that is the cause of the the high fuel consumption. Can someone tell me how i can remedy that

LAGOS — The leadership of the House of Representatives was last night considering two options in the wake of the bribery scandal that has engulfed its investigation into the utilisation of subsidy in the prices of petrol.

The House options, Vanguard learnt, were upon pressures from members of the House  who were peeved over what they saw as a stain in the image that the Aminu Tambuwal House had sought to uphold.

At the centre of the emerging scandal is the chairman of the House ad-hoc committee on the Utilisation of fuel subsidies, Lawan Farouk. He was, yesterday, formally accused by diesel merchant, Mr. Femi Otedola of demanding $3 million bribe to supposedly clear him, Otedola and his companies from culpability in the committee’s report.

In an interview published by a national newspaper, yesterday, Otedola stated that Lawan and an official of the committee collected the sum of $620,000 in part payment of the alleged bribe in marked money supposedly provided by security agencies.  Lawan, had prior to yesterday’s disclosure denied culpability, alleging the determination of those indicted by his committee’s report to fight back dirty.

Lawan could not be reached yesterday for further reactions following the formal accusations by Otedola.

Though the House is currently on break, an unusual tension was evident in the offices of the House of Representatives yesterday with angry members expressing regret over the latest development. The clerk of the committee cited by Mr. Otedola who allegedly collected part of the bribe money alongside Lawan,  Boniface Emenalo was out of his office throughout yesterday. His secretary repeatedly stated that Emenalo was not in the office during repeated visits by newsmen to the office.

The options before the House

Vanguard learnt last night that upon the pressures from House members, the House leadership was now leaning towards two options. The first is to dump Lawan from his position as chairman of the ad-hoc committee. Under the option which is seriously favoured by a majority of those in the hierarchy of the House, Lawan would also be stopped from presiding during the appearance of the 17 companies who were re-invited by the Lawan committee following their complaints that they were indicted by Lawan’s committee without hearing from them.

Under the second option Lawan would be left to continue in his duties while the House would give full liberty to security agencies to investigate the matter. That option which was initially favoured when the scandal broke is increasingly being discountenanced upon pressures from House members.

Meanwhile it was learnt yesterday that the House on resumption next Tuesday would take a resolution on the issue based on the option it finally adopts.

Irrespective of the resolution, the hierarchy of the House is determined to push the executive arm of government to implement the recommendations of the report earlier submitted by the Lawan committee.

House members were further angered by what they claimed as the initial arrogance of the alleged chief culprit once he was called upon by Speaker Tambuwal to defend himself when the scandal first broke.

Maverick musician, Charly Boy has been blowing hot following the publications  last week by two national newspapers, (not Vanguard) which reported that he is gay and a member of the illuminati, a secret cult.

Reacting to the publications, which he said has cost him ‘great hurt and distress’, in a telephone interview with WG, the area father said “it’s absurd” for anyone to think he’s  gay  and a member of a cult all because he’s trying to be himself. He is  threatening to seek redress in court.

The eccentric entertainer however  expressed dismay, following the embarrassment the negative reports has brought to his personality as well as the accusation that he uses his wife only as a camouflage for his illicit affairs with men like him.

Uche (her surname withheld) was an Accountancy part time student of a Federal University, before her death recently.
She was one of the happening babes in town, although she likes doing her things in her own little way.
In fact, a lot of her course mates doesn’t know her because she was quiet and she doesn’t talk to anyone in her class.
She’s from Imo State; her father is late while her mother stays in the village.
We gathered that, she is from a poor back ground, but she struggled to make ends needs and to also send her younger ones to school, through the money she got from her many men friends.
Uche stayed with her friend in a duplex around Wuse 2, and she drove a Honda car, before she met a guy who changed her life completely, but who eventually used her for rituals.
One of Uche’s friends revealed to us how she confessed to her before she breathed her last about 2 months ago.
Uche,we learnt met the America based guy in one restaurant in Abuja.
Roland spoilt her silly with money and gift; he even bought for her, an exotic car and promised to marry her. She was very happy that she has finally met the man of her dream, especially considering the fact that the guy also hails from the same place with her.
Few weeks after Uche met Roland, she started spending almost every day with him.
Roland spent 6 weeks in Nigeria before going back to the United States; he even gave Uche an engagement ring that she flaunts before her friends.
Uche kept most of the things she shared with Roland to herself until she fell ill and went to about 3 hospitals, where she was told there was nothing wrong with her.
One of her friends who stayed with her, later took her to a white garment church in Kubwa,a suburb of Abuja.
The Prophet, we gathered saw vision about her predicament and advised Uche to confess what has happened to her or else she will die, initially she didn’t want to talk but after much persuasion from her friends, she did.
She said, Roland likes adventure, so he suggested they should do some nasty things. She said Roland had a dog he cherishes, and he suggested she sleeps with the dog while he watches her, she said she doesn’t want to do it, but later she had sex with the dog, her friend further revealed that,Uche was angry after the sex with dog show, but Roland begged her and gave her a car key(Infinity Jeep), assuring her nothing will happen to her.
Roland left the country the following day, and promised to start processing her papers to come to the United States once he gets back to U.S.
Uche’s friend and the prophet called the guy but the number didn’t exist.
They also asked her for the address of Roland’s house in Abuja but they didn’t get the address she described.
The Prophet advised she should be taking back home while she beg God to save her, because she has been used for rituals.
Uche died few days later.

Undergraduate nursing mother claims police coerced her to deny the rape, write letter of apology to accused masquerade

A young woman in Nsukka has been made to live with the most unimaginable humiliation of her life: After she was allegedly raped by a masquerade, she was then made to apologise to her rapist, for, wait for it, wrongly accusing him. And it did not stop at that, the law enforcement agents, who should ordinarily protect this nursing mother, are also fingered in a dehumanizing plot that saw her putting the apology in writing.

To say that Opi Community in the Nsukka East Development Council Area, Enugu state, is becoming synonymous with abomination that may no longer be an over-statement. For strange events in the area since 2011 can attest to the veracity of the assertion. These abnormal occurrences have been adjudge by traditionalist to be at variance with the norms, culture and tradition of a typical Igbo community. Since the first quarter of 2011, weird happenings in Opi have compelled observers to begin to believe that there is an unseen hand dictating the pace of events in the beleaguered community split into two by the ever busy Enugu-Makurdi expressway. What immediately comes to mind is the celebrated emergence in Ogbozalla of randy youths from the pit of hell, whose stock in trade, was the serial and unhindered rape of widows and sometimes, grandmothers, with impunity. The atrocity dominated front pages of Nigerian dailies in the first and last quarters of 2011. Just as the dust of the unprecedented saga was about to settle, another monster has struck. Now, it is the alleged rape of an undergraduate nursing mother by masquerade known in local parlance as “Oriokpa”. The strange rape of 28 year-old nursing mother, Ngozi (Surname withheld by us), by Oriokpa masquerade on her way to fetch water on March 21, 2012, was further compounded by alleged police complicity.

Daily Sun found that the offending masquerade was arrested and unmasked by the police but was hurriedly released on the excuse that he had JAMB exam to take. It was also alleged that the hasty release of the masker, identified as Ifeanyi… (Surname withheld by us) was facilitated by alleged greasing of the palm of the police. Daily Sun further gathered that while the nursing mother was yet on hospital bed at the St. Joseph Hospital Opi, her drip transfusion was disrupted several times as she was allegedly forced by the police to come to make one statement and another.

The nursing mother laments that she was coerced to change her statement, to write that she was not raped days after she was compelled to write apology and her father intimidated to close the matter on the claim that doctor’s report said she was not raped, neither read the report nor see it. I was forced to write an apology by the police. When all these things were happening, no policeman came to hospital to take my statement. All the time, nurses will remove my drip on my hand for me to go to police station to answer their invitation”, the nursing mother lamented. She however said, she has forgiven the family of the masquer. “God will judge everybody according to his or her work. I have forgiven the boy because of his mother, but I just want the world to know that I was maltreated because we are poor”. A source from Idi-opi, disclosed that unlike the Ogbozalla Opi rape, where no traditional sanction was meted to the rapists, the Idi-Opi Council of Elders have slammed a sanction on the alleged masquarader’s family. According to the source, the family had been ordered to provide items for the propitiation of the gods of the land or risk ostracism.

Sun enquiry at the Divisional police station, Nsukka where the case was reported did not yield much dividend, our checks showed that “a case of assault occasioning harm by masquerade, was reported at the station by one Ugwu Ngozika and not rape”.

Contacted, Dr. Ugwu, (Surname withheld) whom Ngozika claimed carried out lab test on her said, he could not remember the woman’s (Ngozi) case. “I cannot remember the woman you are talking about. Here, we handle a lot of cases”, he stated. He however, said if given enough time, he could contact the police to find out if such a woman was even brought to him by them.

Asked if the woman was entitled to a copy of the result of lab test carried on her, Dr. Ugwu who is also, the medical officer in charge Nsukka District Hospital, said yes, but later said it was discretionary saying lab, results are secret documents. Ngozi who is the only female child of her parents bared her mind to Daily Sun in her home, Idi Opi few kilometers from Nsukka urban. Our correspondent, Kassidy Uchendu reports.

How Masquerade Raped Me:- This thing happened on March 21, 2012. There were three masquerades that day but two were spotted and people started running. I was going to fetch water and as people were running, I equally ran and hid somewhere until the two masquerades passed. As the masquerade passed, I came out to fetch water, I heard one child saying: “see another masquerade”.

I didn’t see that very masquerade and people were running and as I was running to enter into someone’s house, the Masquerade took an apian road and pushed me to the building where I was running to enter. I tried to jump blocks that were packed, but couldn’t and the masquerade caught me and started beating me What surprised me was that the Masquerade said it has been long he was looking for me and have finally caught me today. I asked the masquerade what have I done to him that he was looking for me for a long time, or could it be it was a mistaken identity, but the Masquerade said I am talking nonsense, that he has caught me.

The Masquerade threatened he was taking me to a bigger Masquerade, saying it has been long I have been insulting him. I told him I am nursing a baby and he shouted me down while caning me. I started shouting calling the three communities of Opi, but I was surprised that people did not come to my immediate rescue.

As the masquerade was still dragging me along with him, then one man tying wrapper came out. The man pleaded with the masquerade to leave me, but he refused, saying that I have insulted him for too long. The masquerade insisted on taking me to the bigger masquerade which will compel my clan to bring a cow as fine. All my pleading together with the man who came to my rescue, failed as he dragged me to a bush and I told him that is not the way to the place where to see the bigger masquerade. I have made up my mind to see the bigger masquerade to know what I have done wrong to deserve the treatment. He dragged me to enter a bad bush and I resisted with the last strength in me to avail, even as he threatened to kill me.

As we were dragging, he gave me a stud and threw me to the ground and fell on me. He held me on the neck for me not to shout. Both my eyes and nose were blocked. I am not sure he was alone when he threw me to the ground because I was unconscious. I could not have normal breathing nor see anything again, I was unconscious. I didn’t know when I was taken to the hospital, I do not know where I was and did not know anything that was going on.

When I started gaining consciousness, I did not see my pant and my bra was torn. I now said, so this masquerade raped me while I was on my own. Fear griped me that the masquerade might have transmitted HIV/AIDS to me. I am not sure of being free from it till after 6 months when I will go for HIV test to know whether I’m positive or negative. I am not sure the masquerade did not impregnant me, my conscience is not yet clear until I go for that HIV test. I will like to carry out all necessary tests on sexual transmitted diseases.

The police asked me to write apology letter and I was surprised on why I should write an apology letter, for what? Am I writing apology letter because I am not sure of myself? I took it because when he said I should not say anything, saying doctor’s report shows that I was not raped. I did not read the report nor see it. I was forced to write an apology by the police. When all these things were happening, no police came to the hospital to take my statement.

I do not know if the masquerade was arrested and questioned by the police. The next thing was that the mother of the man wearing the masquerade came begging me to forgive her son. I told his mother that I have forgiven him.

The police said that I should not be paid what my family spent in the case. The police said that the rapist’s family will only take care of the hospital bill. The police said that I am even lucky for the rapist’s family to pay hospital bill, that some people can come and report a case of rape and it will be discovered that they were not raped and nothing will be paid to them. The rapist’s family paid only the hospital bill. But I have forgiven them and resigned my fate to God.

IPO asked me to write, I was not raped:- The police invited us again to the police station claiming that the DPO was not around the day the matter was closed, that we have to come back. When I went to answer the invitation, the IPO took me to an office and told me that he earlier told me the doctor’s report showed that I was not raped. I questioned as to why the issue again, since I have closed the matter with my father. The IPO asked me to write that I was not raped. They are stronger than me. I wrote that I was not raped according to police doctor’s report.

The boy who raped me gave police one name but people who knew him said that his real name is different from what he gave the police. The name of the police officer that handled my case is “Akor” The IPO gave me a letter which he claimed came from the DPO and asked me to go and give it to the witness. I collected it and delivered it to the witness and he said that he is not going to any place as he did not go when the case was in progress, why are you inviting him after the case was closed, that he will not go. The name of the witness is Ugwunwanshi Basil.

The IPO later asked me what the witness said and I told him, and he asked me to come the next day with the man. I told him that I will not come. Up till now that I speak with you “journalist’, I have not seen the police man or heard from him again.

I dropped out from Enugu State College of Education (technical) due to lack of fund. I was a second year student when I dropped. I entered the tertiary institution in 2007/2008 session , I was supposed to graduate in 2010. I dropped in 2009 because of fund, my Reg. No. is SSE/2007/325. I would like to go back and finish up my studies if I can see money.

I appeal to both Nsukka Local Government and Enugu State Government or even Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and philanthropists to help me finish up my education at the College of Education Enugu (Technical). I am in a big psychological trauma as a result of my experience on March 21, 2012. I need counseling and help.

I want the rapist to repent and know God. I do not want him to die for raping me. I will be happier if the boy can repent and follow Christ. I can’t remember how much we claimed as damages in the matter but my first salary from the private school were I teach, was N8,000.00 and it finished just like that, but let God take all the glory. A Kano High Court, yesterday, sentenced to death, by hanging, Bello Garba Bello, alias Baba, an undergraduate of Kano State University of Science and Technology for killing his parents and younger ones in 2010.

Bello was on September 13, 2010, arrested by security forces for killing his father, Garba Bello, a Director with SSS, his mum, Habiba Garba, younger sisters, Hafsat and Murjanatu Garba and his younger brother Khalifa, in cold blood at their family house on Zoo Road by Gandun Albasa Quarters in Kano metropolis.

The judge, Justice Haliru Abdullahi, said he was satisfied with the evidence tendered before him that the accused actually committed the five-count charge of homicide for which he was charged.

In his judgment, Justice Abdullahi said: “In the end, I found the accused guilty on the five-count charge and hereby convict him accordingly on each of the five counts.”


Justice Abdullahi, in a 66-page judgment, held that the five victims were killed as a result of various degrees of multiple injuries inflicted on them by the accused person contrary to section 221 of the Penal Code.

Justice Abdullahi stated that “in the light of the foregoing, I found that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused person on all the five- count charge. I hereby sentence the convict to death on each count and he shall therefore be hanged by the neck until he is dead.”

The prosecution counsel, Shu‘aibu Sule, said the accused had confessed to have committed the offence in a written statement he made to the police on September 15, 2010.

He presented seven witnesses before the court including the younger brother of the accused, Farouk, whose testimonies supported the charges against the defendant.

The defence counsel, Mr. Ahmed Raji, had tendered a 17-page written address before the court explaining the circumstances leading to the death of the five persons and exonerating the accused from the charges preferred against him.

According to him, the statement written by Farouk implicating the accused was inadmissible as the witness was below the age of 14 and that Bello Garba had earlier written a statement on September 14, 2010 exonerating himself before he was forced to write another one on September 15, 2010 confessing to the offence.

Don Jazzy’s new album without D’Banj – A review

Don Jazzy no doubt is a man who keeps his word; so when he announced yesterday that he would be releasing a compilation album that will hold new works from his Mavins- Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, Wande Coal and D’Prince titled Solar Plexus today, this writer has been on the ready and in the coming paragraphs takes a curious yet critical look at this album that comes barely two months after D’banj left the pack to take on the international music market.

Solar Plexus ordinarily means that part of the abdomen including the stomach that is particularly vulnerable to the effects of a blow; so maybe Don jazzy is trying to say this album will literally knock the wind out of you – entertainment wise that is.

The album compilation holds twelve tracks with Tiwa Savage disturbingly doing only one track out of the twelve while Dr Sid, Wande Coal and D’Prince enjoy three each for themselves. This may be due to the fact that she is a recent sign on to the label and the whole compilation had been put together in a rush with Don Jazzy being under intense pressure to be out quickly with his label.

Solar plexus has I’m a Mavin presumably done by all four but then it is difficult to determine when each male Mavin individually takes on the song as the versus had gone the same way both melody and voice- tone wise. Only Tiwa Savage who thankfully is a female had broken the male monotony with her rich, sensual voice. This is noticeably different and perhaps not up to what the Mo’hits all stars had hit us with in 2007

However, the track I am a Mavin exudes a new music sense and style quite unlike what Don Jazzy has ever produced before. Anyone with good music ears and love for perfect harmony will enjoy the number but then if you are inpatient and already quivering to get into a dancing feat then you maybe be moving on to other tracks.

In Solar Plexus, Tiwa Savage has Oma Ga to her credit, Wande Coal drops See me ri, Forever, and Pretty girls, Dr Sid Yolo, CPR and Chocolate while D’Prince finishes with Take Banana, Why you over there and Amarachi. All four Mavins do their songs individually and independently. They do not jump in to help each other at choruses or bridges save for the Producer himself Don Jazzy who comes in occasional yet expectedly to do vocal backup.

In all, the album is tight. But then there may be moments when the up beat tempo maintained in one track drops considerably in the next track. The sound and production quality is on point but still not ahead of what had been in the Mo’hits era. This album no doubt will have hits that will rock clubs and parties for months to come but then one reality stares really hard in the face – D’banj is sorely missed in this compilation.

KADUNA — The Northern States Christians Elders’ Forum, NOSCEF, weekend, accused some Northern Muslim elders of shielding Muslim terrorists and their sponsors.

The forum also called for the restructuring of Nigeria  into six regions as a way of maintaining the unity of the country.



On the N5 billion appropriated for the building of Almajiri Primary Schools in the North, NOSCEF said it also wanted N5 billion appropriated for Christian Mission Schools as a way of ensuring that government was not favouring Muslims over Christians.

These were contained in a communiqué issued in Kaduna and signed by its Chairman, Evangelist  Mathew Owojaiye and  Engr. Iliya Yusuf, Secretary at the end of the meeting of its states and national executives.

According to the communique, “the meeting noted the deterioration of security especially in the north eastern sector of Nigeria and now encroaching into the middle belt.

“Alarming still is the incessant and deliberate attacks, bombings and shootings of innocent Christians even at their places of worship, that is, churches in Kano, Plateau, Borno, Bauchi, Abuja and Gombe.

“The reason Christians do not retaliate is not because we are cowards but because that will be a sin. It is unfair to go and attack, kill or maim people that are innocent, that may not even know the attackers or may even hate what the attackers are doing. What offence did the worshippers in the churches commit against the sect?

“We had given the Federal Government of Nigeria time to retrain their security forces on how to tackle terrorism. Our patience is running out. We are hereby blaming the Federal Government for any woes visited on us.

True Federalism

“We are hereby calling for National Conference. We need to restructure Nigeria. We want the six geopolitical zones to become regions with a little alteration here and there according to the wishes of the people.

“Each zone will manage its resources and pay tax to the Federal Government as it was in 1960 and 63 constitutions. The Federal Government will take off its hands from education, agriculture, water resources, industries, mineral resources, research and technology, health, power generation, women affairs, youths and sports, works and housing.

“The Federal Government will be solely in charge of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Customs and Aviation.

Almajiri schools

“We Christians in the northern states welcome the idea of the Federal Government helping almajiri schools in the present set up. We view almajiri schools as Muslim mission schools. We Christians also have our mission schools. There is only one main difference. The Muslim almajiri schools teach only Islamic studies while the Christian mission schools teach Christian religious studies and include secular subjects like physics, chemistry, biology which schools in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq also teach.

“The Federal Government has released N5 billion to the Muslims, we congratulate the Minister of Education for that.

“We, however, remind Mr. President that the Christians are waiting for their own N5 billion. We remind Mr. President that the constitution forbids him favouring one religion above the other.”

No more One North

“We agree with Elder Dr. Maitama Sule that Nigeria should not be allowed to break.

“We commend the Northern Elders for calling for meetings to see how to build unity in the North. Christian Religious study is not taught in government schools in the core north.

It was shocking to us that the Northern Elders invited our leaders to the meeting but did not allow them to speak even after they had introduced themselves. There can not be one North without equal treatment. They should concentrate on getting three friendly regions out of the North than thinking of the north as one region again. Situations have overthrown the idea of one north.

“What took place in Bayero University Kano (BUK) would have not happened if the Christian community were allowed to have their own Chapel. We hereby call on the Federal Government and Head of Federal Institutions to allocate land for building of churches in the nineteen Northern States”

THE Transparency International has expressed worry over the scope and speed of corruption in Nigeria this year, saying it is beyond what it has ever dealt with. This was revealed in an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan by Fitch and Associates in the Hague, The Netherlands, on behalf of Transparency International. In the letter, distributed by Save Nigeria Group (SNG), the Transparency International said the scam in Nigeria at present is quite heartbreaking.

14 killed, many injured as explosions rock Bayaro University Kano.

No fewer than 14 people have been reportedly killed while several others sustained various degrees of injury in a multiple blasts that rocked St Stephen Catholic Chaplain, Bayero University, Kano.
The multiple blasts were targeted at the early morning Christian worshippers at Theatre Two near Sport Complex, old Campus of the institution.
A member of the rescue team who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard that, “we have recovered 14 dead bodies so far and transfer same to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.”
The source explained that scores of others including women and children were injured and taken to Hospitals for medical attention.
Eyewitness said those who survived the blast ran into a ring of fire coming out of unknown gunmen that had taken position round the church building.
JTF spokesman Lt Ikediche Iweha confirmed the incident but refused to comment on the number of casualties, rather, he referred Vanguard to the University authority.
When contacted, the university’s Public Relation Officer, Malam Zaharadeen said he could not comment on the issue as security forces have taken over the place were in the right position to give details of incident including number of victims.
While confirming the incident, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Kano chapter, Rev Ransom Bello expressed fear that dozen might have been affected.
According to Bello “the Commissioner of Police has put me on notice about the ugly incident in BUK old campus but yet to confirm the casualty figure’

2015 PRESIDENCY: We’ll join suit against Jonathan – Northerners

ABUJA — A group of Northerners under the aegis, Concerned Northerners, yesterday, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to allow for due process of the law to prevail in the court in the ongoing tenure elongation suit.

Rising from a meeting in Abuja, yesterday, the group which comprises Northern professionals, politicians, academics and businessmen, also told President Jonathan to pay attention to the job for which he was elected to do less than a year ago, rather than preoccupy himself with schemes of tenure elongation.

The Northerners, who vowed to join in the suit against tenure elongation, however, expressed worry that the President was canvassing his position on the issue through the media, leaving the proper forum, which is the court of law.

In a communiqué at the end of a meeting on Nigerian constitutional system, the Northerners stressed that the issue of whether President Goodluck Jonathan was into his first or second term in office was a serious and weighty constitutional issue that only the courts can determine, just as they advised the President not to intimidate the courts with preemptive and bombastic pronouncements on the issue.

The meeting which was co-chaired by the convener, Dr. Junaid Muhammed and the Committee Chairman on Constitution Amendment, Prof. Awwal Yadudu, recalled the fruitless, but persistent efforts by the Presidency to use the Justice Belgore Committee the government set up to introduce a seven-year single term, which the President would himself test-run after his current term.

The statement read in part: “In an apparent failure of this effort, it has become clear that the President, who along with his late predecessor, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua served a full four-year term between 2007and 2011 and currently serving a second term seems now clearly bent on finding a way to serving a third term of office.

“In recalling that this was not the first time that a Nigerian leader would seek a tenure elongation, the last time being the third term aspiration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, which was resoundingly defeated and thrown out by Nigerians, this single-minded search for Jonathan’s tenure elongation will be fought and defeated using all constitutional means available.

“To this end, the Concerned Northerners said they have taken upon themselves the duty of arousing civil society groups and the general public to wake up to this relentless attempt to tenure elongation.

“The Committee stated that the current constitution is very clear in the assertion that whichever President serves two terms in office is not eligible for another term of office. It explained that a first impression one gets from the reading of the constitution is that for the purposes of tenure, qualification and disqualification, the President and the Vice President are considered as one. Based on this, President Jonathan will be considered in law to have served his first term between 2007 and 2011.”

‘’Finally, the Concerned Northerners advised that based on this, and the fact that there are other arguments on oath-taking, which the constitution did not allow, Nigerians have to come to grips with the fact that they are confronted by serious and weighty constitutional issues which consequences impinge on the overall well-being of the Republic.

‘’In the light of the public interest at stake in the matter in court, the Committee said it has resolved to apply to join the suit to be a part of the process.”

The Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, yesterday described as ‘patently false’ and ‘laughable,’ allegations that he was working towards Islamising the state and seceding from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In an address to the people of the state, Aregbesola said: "There is a purported security report alleging that I am working towards Islamising the State of Osun and plotting to secede from Nigeria. The first is patently false while the second is laughable."
Pointing out that Nigeria is a secular state, in which the people are adherents of diverse religious faiths, the governor declared, "I have never hidden the fact that I am a Muslim. This is within my constitutional right as a Nigerian. This notwithstanding, within my own family, there are Christians who practise their choice religion freely, without let or hindrance. It is therefore impracticable for any religious group to lord it over anyone, or for a particular government to Islamise the state as alleged."
To confirm the warm relationship between him and prominent Christian leaders in the country, the governor said: "It is a reflection of our openness, fairness, accommodation and impartiality that prominent Christian religious leaders, including Pastors Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mathew Ashimolowo of Kingsway International Christian Church in London, Prophet Samuel Abiara of Christ Apostolic Church, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Dominion), Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, Prophet Gabriel Fakeye of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ayo ni o, among others, have visited me at the Government House and commended our administration for promoting religious harmony in the state."
On the issue of hijab in schools, he explained that it came up in the last quarter of last year "and it was amicably resolved to the knowledge of all security agencies."
He also commented on the school uniform, explaining that "the school uniform in our public schools is part of our well-thought-out policy on education reform. We are constructing state-of-the-art buildings for our schools. We are also introducing free meals in elementary schools. Computer tablets will be given free to our senior secondary school pupils. It is therefore an infernal mischief straight from the pit of hell for this lofty scheme to be portrayed as an Islamising agenda," he said.
On the issue of crest, he said, "Our crest is a reflection of our history and proud heritage. Indeed, all the states of Nigeria had their separate crests until 1975 when the military embarked on a more unitary state policy. Even now, other states and regions have their emblems, crests, flags and slogans."
Reassuring his people, the governor said, "What you are seeing is the handiwork of an overzealous and misguided leadership of a security agency that has mixed up allegiance to the constitution, the Nigerian people and their welfare with the partisan interest of a transient occupier of state office. This intelligence, we must assure you, has been in our possession and we have duly notified President Goodluck Jonathan, who we believe has sensed the urgency in the matter and is working to correct this embarrassing disposition of a tiny leadership of a federal agency capable of causing chaos and destabilisation. The shenanigan will pass,"
Recalling that the eight years preceding the emergence of his administration were characterised by "brigandage, social upheaval, insecurity of life and property, indiscriminate arrests and detention on false charges, and a virtual state of siege," the governor said his administration has resolved to promote peace in spite of all odds.
As a result of this resolve, "All fears are gone; the exiles are returning home; and the economy of the state is growing in leaps and bounds," he said, warning that "If there is any threat to peace, we should look in the direction of a party whose national vice chairman vowed recently to make our state ungovernable. This is not going to happen. Our people have vowed not to allow themselves to be provoked. Their collective resolve is to enjoy all aspects of freedom, including freedom from fear, and live in peace and harmony with one another."
