Emperoh:i think the law is vague on what criteria to use and becos our Custom people do not want to be proffessional in carrying out their duties, used cars cannot be valued at cost price as if they were new,in practice there are standards used such as those used bt pre shipment inspection agencies |
alanbolo:The only way you could have cleared such cars in lagos was that they came in containerised so there was no pysical inspection or them turn blind eye. Those cars are already contraband so they cannot have legit papers. Most likely the documents used to clear them where doctored. As per the duty payable on a car it is fixed periodically, although i do not know the current rate but i believe it is not less than 10% of the value of the car.Now if you bring in a car worth say 5million naira the proper duty payable on that car cannot be less than 500k but clearing agents and customs officials underinvoice the cars and quote lower values for the cars when paying duty so that what is actually paid drops. That is what the guys at the check point mean when they tell you that the duty you paid was too small becos they can estimate the value of the car in the market and then compare with what is on your papers. |
For the ml fans in the house
|
harakiri:Please do not go there , talking of Gran Coupe, if BMW is so tech why do they benchmark Mercedes- Benz models, becosa them recognize the market leader .Besides the x5 and the some of their hih-end coupes the other beemersjust dey nothing unique or innovative about them |
Of the 250k you paid how much did you expect should be the agents commission? |
when comparing the ml a nd the x5 ,remember that the ML came out before the x5 so comparing ml of 2000 and x5 of 2002 definately the newer car should be better particularly if they are rival models.Comparing the ml of 2003 and the x5 of the same year to me the ml is preferable. That BMW looks too bulky. The post 2006 X5 yes that is the bomb. The problem with the post 2006 ml is that it looks femine i guess that is their target market, but the amg versions and the 2009 are much better. |
Pefectbuy can one get other colours like black exterior of this model in cotonou? |
tomialph:What is confusing about how he quotes his car prices clearly you should know as he has explained before that the pricw quote is the cost price at the dealer which excludes duty payment in Cotonou, duty payment at the Nigerian border and his commission. |
Fhemmmy:That is not a fact ,the use of the word jeep is not peculiar to Nigeria only, dealers in Europe ,Asia,Middle East are aware of the use of the word to refer to SUVs.The use of the term SUV is American in their usual way of trying to be different, GIVEN THAT THE TERM IS DISCRIPTIVE OF THE VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT REMOVE OR INVALIDATE THE WORD JEEP(THAT WORD IS EVEN IN THE DICTIONARY).Before the term suv became the lingo such vehicles were refered to and still are as trucks in America. We should stop all this notion that if it is American it gotta be the standard that is b/s. |
The plots you are advertising at Bucknor estate which part s of Bucknor are they on or better still which streets? |
Do we have any authority or body in Nigeria in charge of maintaing such safety standards and do we actually have a required standard of safety for articulate vehicles backed by legislation, these are the salient issues. |
That is what i am saying prices globally are the same save for differnces in specs that is for new cars. Why should toyota or mercedes products cost so much more in Nigeria. If there should be any difference this should be as aresult of transportation, excise duty etc.If they sold cars at the right prices what will be the incentive for grey products . |
The problem is that Nigerian distributors usually add large margins to their prices. There is no reson why a 2009 c-class merceds -benz should be sold for 10million naira and above if not for greed becos the go to any mercedes benz website, u.sa.,Dubai,Germany those cars cost less than 40k dollars. If there is a price differential in Nigeria it should be only as a result of duty payments and possibly taxes. |
That is not unique to Toyota dealers alone some years back before WESTAR ASSOCIATES was formed to coordinate Mercedes-benz sales in Nigeria, some recognized dealers were selling brand new cars without some accesories and parts whereas in Geremany and the U.S these accesories and parts were being offered as standard and that is how they get them from the manufacturer as a package only to sell them sepeartely in Nigeria. |
Nija is classified as alow income country if they offered cars with all those specs how many people in Nigeria go fit afford to buy the cars, their goal is to sell cars in volumes so they tend to offload basic models with little effizy in countries like nija. |

FYNEWAKA and co. that is the problem with people like you ,always have an excuse for everything. You expect govt to come give you work or money. The govt is trying to create a condusive environment using what resources they got, instead of looking for opportunities like others are doing you are busy complaining. When people from other tribes go come establish business for Calabar people like you go turn 'TIGER' dey vok say dem no be indigenes. |

Hey the fact that your mum's friend is talking foul about her daughter does not mean all mothers from Nigeria do that nor is that peculiar to Nigeria in the western world people do the same. |
