BusinessRe: Sanusi Will Ruin Economy If Allowed To Carry Out Liquidation Of Banks by CHANCEMAN: 4:40pm On Jun 29, 2011
What is the purpose of production when demand does not exist? If as an economic player you cannot distinguish between macro and micro economic variables then you still have a long way to go.Greece had an economic crisis is no way similar to Nigeria's so i do not see the need for comparison. If i may ask why do you think China's economy has recovered but that of America isstill struggling to?
Financial discpline is part of financial management but that alone does not lead to economic growth.Sanusi has been in charge foe sometime and all econoomic indicators are as dismal as when he took over.

Okay, now it has changed from "Sanusi HAS killed the economy" to "Sanusi WILL kill the economy."

You guys are just too much grin grin grin. For the record, a Central Bank Governor cannot single-handedly kill or resuscitate an economy, he also needs the support of the Minister of Finance and the President. Olusegun Aganga has not shown us that he has any liver to fight the ills of the economy while Mr. President is not exactly at par with Barack Obama in terms of understanding the dynamics of Economics.

In the environment that we find ourselves and the circumstance we are in, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is doing a decent job and I leave it at that. If we continue to castigate good people and frustrate them out of the country, we will end-up being worse than Somalia and Liberia. So when we criticize, let us understand the import of what we are saying.
The issue here is not the if he is a good man or not , the issue here is competence , so far he has not demonstrated that he hasa good grasp of the macro-economic variables within the environment he is charge of,given that he can influence monetary policy.History has shown that Nigeria is a financial sector driven economy,if the banking sector is not thriving the economy is at a stand still

No doubt, Sanusi has made powerful enemies and they are fighting back. Where was the economy when Sanusi became CBN Governor? Were people not dying of hypertension because they took term loans to buy worthless stocks. So you see the economy was already destroyed and Sanusi can do little wrong than what the likes of Cecelia Ibru, Ndidi-Okereke and Pastor Akingbola allowed to happen. By the way was this man not voted man of the year in a poll that he was not even a part of in the first place (Silverbird Man of the Year)? He is the current Economist Central Banker of the Year and some of you who cannot even prepare amortization table are here busy typing rubbish.

Central Bank Governor of the Year 2011

In the 18 months that he has been in office, Lamido Sanusi has salvaged a crumbling financial sector, taken on Nigeria's powerful and corrupt bank managers and initiated reforms that have put Africa's most promising market back on the map for investors.

http://www.thebanker.com/Awards/Central-Bank-Governor-of-the-Year

It is no wonder that we are where we are as a country today: there are only a few good men and even fewer intelligent ones.
All that Sanusi has done outside of what Soludo reccomended was to fire bank management.Outsude that the nigerian economy has not improved rather it is stagnating despite the factsthat oil prices have been relatively high reserves declined. He hasmade some policy changes much of which is yet to be implemented. It looksto me like he does not have a good grasp of the macro-economic aspect of hisportfolio.

This is really good news. I'm happy for BMW. They are gifted in designing very comfortable automobiles with very serious considerations for ride quality.

You can see what they did to Rolls Royce with the Phantom - they practically put that name back on the road without any compromise for the build our ride quality. Literally making it better than what it was. And that design and concept continues even till date with the Rolls Royce Ghost and the phantom coupe.

Same thing they did to the then dying Land Rover Range Rover with the 2003/2004 break out design, that restored the Range Rover back to the top of its class.

They are amazing, and I can see the edge, especially now that Mercedes Benz had lost focus; with all kinds of class (a, b, c, d, e, f , down to z class) unnecessarily expensive and also costing so much for minor repairs. People are even confused about what model and what really differentiates the models (for instance the new S and E classes). I think the only mercedes that uniquely makes sense now is the Maybach.

I hope BMW invests in a proper SUV. The X5 is a hit and a masterpiece BUT is still a crossover (actually, like a blend of the Range Rover HSE and the 5 series)

They make the ultimate driving machines.

3,5,6,7,x1,x3,x5? 7 seies and 5 series what is the difference?

In my opinion the punishment is too light considering the gravity of the offence,FIFA as currently contituted is losing its credibility and these decisions will not go down well with the soccer public. If such a large number of officials where involved credibilty can be ascribed to the various selecion processes that have taken place under the regime of Sepp Blatter.
As for our man Adamu instead of being apologetic he is still threatening to appeal ,he should thank his stars that the American press seems to be un-interested in this matter if not them for wash him dirty linen in public so tay him no fit talk again I think that is what he needs to experience.Anyway the issue is what is the feral government going to do about it,is he losing his job or what? That man needs to go or else sports will never develop in nigeria.

Coaches should be seen setting targets once they get the job. That's why my best coach still remains Jose Morinho, He sets targets and always have 99% achievement.
Have you considered the resources available to J.M.? large budget enough to poach the best players in the world etc.How many of our players can be considered world class players? Most of them will not even be able to pick a regular shirt if they where to be considered for the Ghanaian or Cameroon national teams.Non regulars on second rate teams. That is why Lager what ever his name was just abandoned the job.Iam sure that if J.M. was offered the job he will reject it.
PropertiesRe: Are Nigerian Properties Over-priced. by CHANCEMAN: 9:42pm On Nov 17, 2010
Yes prices are high and some properties might be overpriced, this becos a lot of speculators have entered the property market to make a quick buck just like they did in the stock market. The long run will eliminate all these players when they start losing money on their investment it is all a matter of time how long can they hold onto their investments.Right now the average turnover in the real estate market is relatively higher than previous periods.

Reuben Abati  is an egghead. He's talking as if the west wouldn’t colonize it if it were 100KG of uncut African Diamond? What happened to Western respect for human rights when her -company Tranfigura chose an African country as a dumping ground for its toxic residue from oil. Where is western consciousness in every day gas flaring and oil pollution in Naija Delta? What did Abati  say when Spanish judge ordered that a 17th century shipwreck discovered by Odyssey Marine-USA  be returned to Spain as its rightful owner- because it contains over $500 million in gold. So putting things in perspective, $500 million in gold is huge to a westerner; while in the same vein, a whale washed ashore is worth more  to a hungry Lagosian. Kapish, ?
We keep complaining about development in our country when opportunities like this show up we do not take it.The point of Rueben's argument is that we have biologist, scientists etc in his country who should have seized thie opportunity for research purpose for crying out loud even the institute of oceanography is just a few blocks away from the site but all the science world in Nigeria acted as if nothing happened. Then they will go to the classroom and teach students using textbooks and pictures developed in other countries when we have thesame at home.

Why do these guys keep on fooling themselves that higher tariffs on fully built cars will  will encourage car manufacturers to set up  factories in Nigeria. How many new cars are bought in Nigeria annually to justify setting up a plant in the country?Do we have the infrastuture to support such plants? The ones we have now are they actually producing profitably?I think all this annual reviews of tarriffs show that our planners place more emphasis on cars as luxuries rather than on their utility as a means of transport , otherwise why keep on raising tarriffs in the midst  of a depressing economy?Should the goal of govt not be to boost  rather than restrict sales?

I wish you well with the offers "trickling in." The question though is why do Nigerians have to settle for less simply because we are Nigerians? The world is a better world today for everyone but Nigerians. We have simply retrogressed!

I have made my point and even you conceded that the house is over valued simply because the house is Askoro Nigeria. That is fair enough and if somebody wants to pay 250m naira to you for a dilapidated house, I would say go for it immediately but I am sure you won't get that at least you've not gotten it. But by your admission, offers are "trickling in." I am sure you know why. The price of this house is simply an outrage!

Thank you ode remo.
People buy property for various reasons. For that price and to certain investors the property inquestion is a "steal".The condition of a house is irrelevant in some cases a dilapidated house in downtown Los Angeles will cost more than an equivalent well built house in Fort Bend county Houston. The value of a property is determined by economic factors regardless of whether the property is in Europe or Bangladesh. The is nothing Nigerian about demand and supply if you like build the equvalent of Buckingham palace in your village it will not be more valuable than a flat at 1004 estate in Lagos.

Fellow nairalanders who come to this section to seek information on some particular vehicles should watch out because
Some members post some reports which are not credible therefore jeopardising the vehicle owners chances of selling it. This is crude and it should stop.
Who issued the reports that you are talking about? When you are given documents by a seller are you not supposed to verify their authenticy independently? That is why people ask for vin numbers rather than vin report. This header is misleading ,people should think before they just jump and start posting crap online.

FL GATORS AND PADDY LO it is not illegal to instal cameras in home for security reasons you do not need the permision of anybody to do that and evidence gathered in such manner is admissible in court in the US.When you instal cameras in your home for security reasons is it not likely that cameras will be installed all over the house? It only becomes an offence when they were installed for the purpose recording sexual acts and in that case most likely cameras will be limited to the bedroom.
When cases like these are being investigated if there are tapes the investigators check them also before deciding to prosecute or not.
AutosRe: The Preorder Mess by CHANCEMAN: 1:52pm On May 24, 2010
Listen the solution tomall of this is just exercising some due diligence while carrying out any transaction. The mode of trading "pre-ordering" is not peculiar to nairaland and it is legal. The risk are not higher or much different from the risk encountered in buying real estate in nigeria. The guys that are crying that they were duped by my rekoning are not serious. If you paid money into a bank account and then discovered you were hoodwinked, then naturally you should go back to that bank and intimate them on the situation and see what goes from there.

mojojojo:
Why is everyone calling for Sanusi's head? What did the guy do wrong?

Before he stormed on corrupt bank MD's we had a CBN governor who we trusted tell us that Nigeria will not go into a recession and that all our banks are healthy only for us to find out that billions of our deposits have been mismanaged and stolen. Banks giving out loans with no collateral, MD's lending money to themselves with no intention of paying back, Banks buying their own shares, cooked up financial reports e.t.c.

My friends let us be frank, there is a media campaign to make Sanusi look bad but man took hard decisions and our banking system will be better for it.
My friend every where in the world banks give out some loans without collateral depending on the credit worthiness of the individual or coy or some other business reasons.Yes some bankers abused the system but that does not call for atotal shutdown of the banking sector, banks in other parts of the world experienced the same thing did you see their govts seizing control of the banks rather they asked the owners to come up with solutions immediately otherwise actions will be taken against them.

Not using terminologies - using fact. Reliability was one of Mercedes-Benz's finer points, but not of late. Being in the industry allows me to observe what the end user doesn't.

You need to "scout for more ML lovers" to win a poll? cheesy Doesn't that tell you something, Diva? grin

When you say, you can vouch for Mercedes-Benz, what's that based on? Personal experience, or an in-depth knowledge of the product? Is it about sentiment, brand loyalty, or factual technical knowledge? Because, I don't just go on sentiment or brand loyalty, else I'd be rooting for the Audi Q7, as Audi's always been my favourite - I've owned 37 models of the marque to-date. wink

Jeez ! ain't anybody here seen the PORSCHE CAYENNE ? Well, we in Germany knows that the Cayenne is the King of all German SUVs and it leads with a big gap ! But then, I'm not surprised, I haven't seen much Porsche Rides in Naija since I've been visiting.
The Porsche Cayenne is the ultimate of all German SUVs, beats all the rest in all categories during the recent SUV tests. Its not for people with class or that want class. Its for the Elite and Style Pioneers.
Yeah agreed it is expensive being a porsche but the superiority in performance that you are claiming does not justify the price difference with its competition and one thing about cars their resale values will tell you alot about the publics perception of a car and i do not think the resale value of both the ml and x5 i sbetter than that of the cayenne and i thought i just heard they had recalled one of their models recently.

I hear you, BlueDiva.

And I understand about your friends. What you do not know are specifics of the issues they've had, or their maintainance culture. I tend to speak from my indepth knowledge of engineering. A ladder chassis is no substitute for a monocoque bodyshell, unless the car's going to spend the greater part of its life mud-plugging.

The popularity of a certain model in Nigeria does not make it the best. Nigerians in general like names, and "status". They also like to stick with what they feel comfortable with. In Nigeria, the Toyota Camry is very popular, more so than a BMW, Audi or Mercedes, Does that make it a better car?
Sienna , all of that is just semantics ,it is not proven that a monocoque bodyshell is better than a ladder chassis ,if that was the case it would have become the standard in the market , these cars are off-roaders as well and mud-plugging is part of what we expect from them especially in nigeria.
