ComputersHow To Extend The Life Span Of A Laptop LCD Display by charsobodo(op): 9:47pm On Oct 10, 2013
How to extend the lifespan of a laptop LCD display, the laptop LCD screen is one of the most delicate part of a laptop, hence there is need to handle it in such a way that will enhance its efficiency and at the same time extend its lifespan.

The backlight is the light source of a laptop LCD display and without it, images on the LCD display can not be seen. Therefore, the life span of the backlight is one of the factors that determines the life span of a laptop LCD display. When the backlight goes bad, the laptop becomes useless, until the backlight is replaced by a functional one. Aside the backlight, there are some other things or factors that could shorten the life span a laptop LCD display and i have listed below ways through which you can overcome those factors and extend the life span of your laptop LCD display.

1. Set the display brightness to the lowest comfortable level

2. Avoid using a screen saver or any software that prevents the laptop from changing to Display-off or Standby mode after a timeout period. If you use a screen saver, enable the option to shut off the display after a time delay.

3. Do not disable Display-off or Standby timeouts.

4. Keep sharp objects away from your laptop, this objects are dangerous and can easily damage the screen

5. Carry your laptop with the screen folded down so that if you drop it or bump into something, the delicate screen is not exposed.

6. Remove any object that is on the keyboard before closing the laptop, this will prevent the screen from being damage by such object.

7. Use a padded case or a laptop bag whenever there is need to transport the laptop from one place to another.

8. keep the case or laptop bag slightly empty to avoid putting pressure on the screen

9. Avoid touching the screen with your hand or finger, point at things on the screen with a mouse cursor or from a distance without touching the screen with your finger or with any object

10. Clean the screen with a soft cotton or micro fiber cloth rather than paper towels or tissues, and wipe with nothing at all or with only a little water. For a detailed guide on to clean your laptop screen please checkout this link http://www.learnlaptoprepair..com/2013/09/spilled-water-on-laptop-how-to-clean-it.html

Why make people to waste transport fare when you know that you don't have jobs for them but all you can offer is trying to cajole them into enrolling for training with you. Please next time be straight forward and open, its a better marketing strategy cos you are dealing with graduates and not nitwits.
ComputersHow To Replace A Laptop Keyboard by charsobodo(op): 10:45pm On Sep 26, 2013
These instructions will help you to remove and replace faulty keyboards on various laptops, but if your keyboard is missing just a key, it’s not necessary to replace the whole keyboard. What you have to do, is to look for the specific key that is missing and replace it on the keyboard. Follow these steps only if you want to completely replace your faulty laptop keyboard with a new one.

Step 1
Begin the process of removing the faulty laptop keyboard by inserting a small Igbo screwdriver under the keyboard bezel and carefully lift it up, then use your fingers to continue releasing the plastic latches, until the keyboard bezel is completely removed from the laptop. When doing this you have to be careful because on some models the keyboard bezel might be connected to the motherboard, so if you accidentally pull the cable connecting the bezel to the motherboard, please connect it back. In this case it is not necessary to disconnect the keyboard bezel from the motherboard in order to remove and replace the keyboard. What you have to do is just put the keyboard bezel aside so that you can access the keyboard screws.

Step 2
Remove the screws (about two or three depending on the laptop model) securing the keyboard at the top and carefully lift up the keyboard from the laptop case.

Step 3
The keyboard is connected to the motherboard by a flat ribbon cable, unlock the connector, to unlock the connector carefully move the connector lock 2 - 4 millimeters up and after that pull the keyboard cable from the connector.

Step 4
The faulty keyboard is now completely detached from the motherboard

Step 5
To install the new keyboard, just follow the above mentioned steps in the reverse order.

nonsense, no thanks. best and fast option. use a white soft clothes like singlet. put a metholeted spirit and wipe the screen it will wipe out all stain and dried off immediately. no need for rising don't and the screen will be very clear and shining like a new screen. it's far better than water. just try it and compare. goodluck.
Please don't mislead people because methylated spirit is very corrosive and can damage the screen, note that a laptop screen is very delicate and should be handled with great care. If what you said works for you, then fine but i will not advise anybody to try it. Thanks
ComputersHow To Clean A Laptop Screen by charsobodo(op): 8:46pm On Sep 23, 2013
Laptop screen is arguably one of the most delicate part of the laptop, personally when it comes to cleaning a laptop screen I do not recommend using abrasive cleaners on the screen display because they can damage the LCD screen, the screen has a very delicate surface. To clean your laptop screen, follow this simple process.

1.Start the process by disconnecting the laptop from power supply, unlock the battery and slide it out from the laptop

2. Get a soft and clean cloth, use it to wipe dust off the screen

3. Dampen the cloth with water

4. Do not use an excessively wet cloth

5.Then gently wipe the LCD screen display with the wet cloth

6. Search and wipe away the fingerprint smudges that may have been imprinted on the screen. Wipe the edges and corners where dust and dirt may be lodged.

7. Be very careful, so that you don't drip water on the keyboard as you wipe the screen

8. Use a dry cloth, and dry the screen. Wipe away any moisture that may have been left by the solution.

10. After wiping the screen, allow it to dry completely

11. When you have confirmed it to be dry, then the process is complete

ComputersMy Laptop Screen Is Black by charsobodo(op): 10:42pm On Sep 18, 2013
My laptop screen is black, it does not mean that the laptop has stopped displaying image, what has happened is that image displayed by the laptop cannot be clearly seen because the laptop LCD screen backlight is not functioning due to one reason or the other. The common cause of this type of fault is a dead backlight tube or a faulty LCD inverter.

To troubleshoot effectively, you need to open the laptop screen, before doing this please check http://learnlaptoprepair..com/2013/08/how-to-replace-broken-lcd-screen-on.html for instructions on how to replace an LCD screen. During dis-assembly of the screen, take note of the points where each screw is before it was removed, so that you won’t have problem assembling the laptop screen back.

Possible Faults

1. Burnt or dead backlight tube
2. Faulty LCD inverter
3. The laptop motherboard does not supply the LCD inverter with the 5V needed to power the screen backlight
4. The laptop LCD lid close switch is stuck in the close position

Solutions

1.After opening the laptop LCD screen panel, bring out the backlight tube and check for clear sign of burns on the tube, if sign of burns is visible on the tube then it means that the backlight is burnt and needs to be replaced but if not, you move to the next stage of troubleshooting, get another working LCD inverter, remove the one that was there before and replace it with the new one that has been confirmed to be working, then just power the laptop with all the component plugged in but still disassembled.

2.If the backlight lights up, then there is nothing wrong with it and with some degree of certainty we can also say that the LCD inverter that was in the laptop before is faulty, but in a situation where the backlight does not still light up, it means that we just have to take the troubleshooting process deeper .

3.The next step is to confirm if the LCD inverter is receiving the 5V required from the motherboard to power the backlight. This is very important because the function of the LCD inverter is to transfer power to the backlight from the motherboard.

4.To confirm if the LCD inverter is getting the required voltage from the motherboard, turn on the laptop (remember it is still disassembled) take your multimeter, switch it to D.C voltage and let it be within a range that is above 20V, use the multimeter to read the voltage “+” lead of the multimeter to the pin 1 on the connector and the “-” lead to ground or any metal. .

5.If you get a voltage value of 5V and above then it means that the LCD inverter is being supplied with the required voltage from the motherboard, which implies that the 5V supply from the motherboard is not the problem, it simply means that the backlight tube is bad and needs to be replaced. But if it turns out that there is no supply of 5V from the motherboard to the LCD inverter, then it simply means that you have to jump or transfer 5V from the motherboard to the LCD inverter.

6.To do this, look for a light wire, locate a component with 5V DC supply on the motherboard, then use the wire to tap or jump voltage from the motherboard to the inverter (the positive terminal e.g. pin 1 on the inverter connector). With this done, provided the LCD inverter itself is OK, the backlight should start functioning again and image displayed on the laptop LCD screen will become bright and visible again.

7. In some rare situation, after all the above possible cause of fault have been ruled out. The LCD lid close switch might just be the cause of the problem, this is possible if it is stuck in the close position. In this mode the backlight stays off, even when the laptop is ON. This is to save or conserve power, to release the lid which is often times located near the hinges of the laptop screen from the close position, just press it so that it can come up or use something to raise it up. You can also check the brightness and contrast setting of the laptop just to be sure.

jonescyras: thanks so much for replying my post...now i will go for tokunbo screen. I heard that "laptop case MAY look new again via spraying". Is this true? If yes, can you advise me to go for spraying my pc other than buying a new case?
if you get good a technician that will spray the laptop and then polished it afterwards, it will be ok. but the truth is that after sometime it will still peel off, but for the main time it will serve you well. The permanent solution will be to change the entire casing and put a very clean tokunbo casing, but also you have to shine your eyes so that they don't sell a polished one to you as tokunbo. ComputersHow To Fix A Loose DC Power Jack by charsobodo(op): 12:18am On Sep 18, 2013
To begin the process, you have to disassemble your laptop and remove the motherboard in order to have access to the power jack, for a step by step instruction on how to remove a motherboard click here. The main fault of the laptop is that the DC power jack terminals is not making proper contact with the motherboard and as a result power supply to the laptop is cut-off. The three basic steps involved in troubleshooting this fault are as follows

Desolder the DC power jack from the motherboard

Clean contacts points on both power jack and motherboard with a brush and alcohol

Solder the power jack back to the motherboard

Step 1
Start desoldering process by adding some new and fresh solder to all three contact points of the power jack on the motherboard, this will make the old solder easier to remove. After the addition of fresh solder to the contact points, begin the removal of solder on each contact point by heating the point with soldering iron and using the soldering pump to extract the solder. Repeat the same process for all the power jack contact points until you have removed as much solder as possible from each point.

Step 2
Hold the power jack and carefully try removing it from the motherboard, it is most likely that you might not be able to remove the power jack at the first attempt due to some solder bridges still left between the contact points and traces on the motherboard. Carefully shake or wiggle the power jack without applying any significant amount of force and at the same time heat up all the contact points one by one. This will help you to remove the power jack from the motherboard.

Step 3
After the power jack has been removed, clean all oxidized contacts of the power jack with a knife and apply a fresh coat of solder to all the contact points. Use a tooth brush and some alcohol to remove some traces of solder that might still be left on the motherboard, apply a fresh coat of solder to all power jack terminals on both sides of the motherboard.

Step 4
Now you can install the power jack back on the motherboard, as you start soldering the power jack back to the motherboard, ensure that there is no gap between the jack and the motherboard. Carefully solder each terminal one after the other and ensure that it is very firm.

Step 5
At this stage the job is done and the laptop DC power jack is fixed. Now just install the motherboard back into the laptop and you are done.

ComputersBattery Problem: Laptop Battery Is Not Charging by charsobodo(op): 10:51pm On Aug 31, 2013
Laptop battery is not charging, when you plug your laptop AC power adapter and discovers that the laptop battery is not charging, at that point you become worried checking all the connections, power adapter, power cable and anything else you can lay your hands on. Panic sets in when you try everything you know and there seem to be no solution in sight, at that particular moment you don’t know what to do, you are frustrated and almost giving up hope that you can rectify the problem.

But the truth of the matter is that the problem might not be as difficult as it appears on the surface. All you may need might just be a simple direction or instruction outlining what to do and before you say Jack! The problem is solved.

Possible Faults

1.Laptop AC power adapter is not properly plugged in
2.Faulty or bad AC power adapter
3.DC jack is loose or separated from the motherboard
4.Laptop battery not properly or firmly seated in the battery compartment
5.Faulty or completely dead laptop battery
6.Motherboard related failure

Solutions

1.Ensure that the laptop AC power adapter is properly plugged in. When you plug in your laptop adapter to power supply, check the LED indicator or charging light to confirm if it is on or off. If the LED is off, then it means that the adapter might be burnt or faulty and probably needs to be replaced provided the voltage from the power supply socket is normal.

2.Check if the DC jack is separated from the motherboard (or DC jack broken) and the laptop doesn’t get any power from the AC adapter. In this case the DC jack has to be replaced.

3.Ensure that the battery is properly seated in its compartment, proper alignment of the battery is essential for charging of the battery, also the laptop battery contact point should be checked to see if it is oxidized, because this can prevent proper contact between the battery and the laptop, hence the laptop can not charge the battery. If this is the case use a brush to clean the battery.

4.When the laptop AC power adapter is plugged in, check the laptop charging LED or charging light, if it is blinking continuously then the laptop battery is completely dead and needs to be replaced.

5.After all the steps above have been taken and the laptop battery is still not charging, then this is a motherboard related failure. Apparently the battery charging circuit has failed. In this case the whole motherboard has to be replaced (or repaired on component level).

1.Try using another AC power adapter to power the laptop, if it works (powers the laptop and charges the battery perfectly well) then the former adapter is faulty and is probably responsible for the short circuiting but if the problem still continues, then the fault is not from the power adapter, with this now the power adapter has been taken out of the equation, lets move to the next level of troubleshooting.

2.Check the power setting, It could be set to turn off when power cord plugged in. To check the setting right click the desktop anywhere that it's blank and choose properties from the menu that comes up. In the window, click the Screen Saver tab. Near the bottom, click the Power button. Look to see what it is set to do when plugged into AC power.

3.If you have tried the above steps and the laptop is still having the same problem, then it means that the motherboard is bad.You have the option of replacing the motherboard in order to rectify the problem or you can decide to continue using the laptop with the fault. This means that you can only charge the laptop only when it is turned off and you can only use the laptop when it is running on batteries.
