They do it like this very well.. Especially in that Ajah and environs. They don't have grasses there so they just sandfill straight off..
Skimanski did something like that for a Nairalander at Agungi. It was sharp sand filling

Guys I have serious question Or let me say important question
We all know that most people that design three to 4 storey building usually use kick out columns
Even when der is cantilever or not
Pls I want to ask is it actually necessary or it old style of building
What if u buried d pillar for it to flush with d wall is der any structural implication in it ??

Because I building of 3 deck and d structural ENGR buried d columns inside d walls and it was stamped and approved by LGA .

Now I saw an ENGR who is building 4 deck and he kicked out his columns but in d architectural design of the same house . d architect (me) designed it in a away all column must be buried .

Does it mean our engrs cant do wonders with structures any more. .must I kick out my columns pls I need answers and ideas. Thanks
Only possible at the last floor, parameter columns will still get to the roof beam. Inner columns may be lost at 4th couches or at the last decking.

Thanks for your response, by road expense I presume you mean paying the truck man to and fro, if that's the case, one more thing, where do we come to, to load (location in Lagos) ❓ and let's seal the deal.

I want to get granite from you, i know a 911 (alleged 10 ton) truck driver, suppose i can convince him to come and load from you to my site, what will it cost me or what are the procedures involved, thanks.
You paying 2,200/tons you do road expense on your own.

Thanks Chekitaut. The lower floor was chained and the foundation was grade beam. Will cracking still affect the upper floor even if I end up ditching the lintel but doing a roof beam (for parapet)?
Haba no need again you have a solid footing already.

Please builders, engineers and clients permit me to ask these questions for a robust discussion. It concerns "Chaining or not Chaining the upper floor lintel".

I am sure comments have been made on this topic previously but permit me to be specific in my request for knowledge.

1. If I decide NOT to "chain or tie" all lintel beams but only place the lintels on door/windows (but will still do a roof beam), is that against building codes or industry best practices?

2. I know Skimanski, one of the best in the business adopts a "no lintel window" but uses the roof beam as "lintel" which produces very tall windows which I admire. I am a bit swayed to choose that style of his as I think the cost saved not "chaining a lintel round the build" can be effectively put into making and fortifying tall windows. I sometimes perceive such windows might be more vulnerable (even with burglaries) to theft and that uninterrupted blocks of 12coaches might be weaker. But is it allowed by building codes?

I call on @aventures @abdulwastecx @spyder880 @Kolashangone @Skimanski @darenyx @diodarves @daboomb (and all builders and engineers I can't remember right now) to help me take the right decision.

Thanks all and God bless.
To avoid future cracking due to settlement of soil chain lintel is good.

The solution to proper materials handling is for one to have a company truck, this is my plan, a 10-ton truck.

Brabus was on to this system and actually bought a Mack.

But as with everything in Nigeria, nothing is foolproof. We've heard that the quarry sellers could be in on a fraudulent scheme too. But one can more effectively manage an employee than a vendor.
Sooner or later ChEkItAuT will not supply but only render Haulage services, book the truck take it to Quarry yourself scale in scale out load and follow the truck to offload point. my client will be happy me too will be glad, putting smile on your face.

Thanks for the input. I'd rather buy in tipper loads then. 911 should be about 10 tonnes? Even the tonnage of the delivery trucks comes into question. I'd always suspected some collusion between the folks at the quarry and the suppliers.

/
Loading 911 sometimes is ripping off too, sometimes ago i load from Calabar(Akanmpa) 8trucks of 911 after loading like the truck will not get to site, believe me highest is 8.77tons. I told all of them to go & offload back i paid 2k for gas for all the 8trucks... told client i can not delivery what i get here.

The only better way is if you have time, is the EgunMogaji way... follow them to the quarry and follow them back to the site.

Greed from both end result to cheat from one end. i have seen where supplier and his client came to quarry in d scale room weight bill was change without the client knowing.

If you believe and have evidence that you have been ripped off by the supplier, what will be the solution?

There comes one more headache in doing business with Nigerians? Who can be trusted?
/
If you made full payment b4 delivery and you observed you ripped off, next time, if u hv 2 order gv one to him or her and gv the second out to someone else identify the difference, short pay or don't pay the supplier & end transaction with him or her.

Given both tons and trucks for those actively engaged in construction works, the best way to know the right quantity is in the usage for concrete works.

How many bags of cement is one supposed to exhaust given any of the nominal mix ratios?
If you are to believe that your supplier has not short changed you.
30tons Granite will use 100bags of Cement on 1:2:4(standard)

Hello House,
1. How best can I detect "rebagged" cement? Should I always carry a measuring scale?

2. How do you determine the size of tipper truck? Which is 5 tonnes, 10 tonnes etc.
Q1. Get a scale or sit the cement if the void is much is rebag.

Q2. Level the goods sand or granite in a box shape measire LxBxH in meter then multiply the denisity of which ever the good may be, granite has 1.32 as density while sand has 2.1as density.
