Fake EFCC Employment Officer, Internet Fraudster Bag Jail Terms

Justice J.K. Omotosho of the Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 convicted and sentenced Bisong James Oyen, a fake employment officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.

Similarly, Kelvin Ogbonna, an internet scammer equally bagged two years from the same judge.

Oyen was arraigned by the EFCC, Port Harcourt’s Zonal Office on Thursday, June 13, 2019 on a two-count charge bordering on forgery and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1 (2) (c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M17 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007, and punishable under Section 1 (2) of the same Act.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Bisong James Oyen, on or about 11th December, 2018 at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did forge Economic and Financial Crimes Commission appointment letter and delivered same to Talbort Young for employment with intent that it may be acted upon as genuine a pretext, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (2) (c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M17 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007 and punishable under Section 1 (2) of the same Act”.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges at the point of arraignment. He, however, changed his plea on Tuesday to "guilty", thus paving the way for his conviction.

Justice Omotosho convicted and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on each of the charges. The sentences run concurrently. Both the prosecution and defence counsels agreed on the plea bargain arrangement.

Oyen's journey to prison began when a petitioner alleged that he logged into the EFCC’s website in a bid to apply for a job, but could not get log in successfully.

It is very disheartening to see the problem of bad environment in Lagos has not been fully eradicated.

Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, has revealed that he was once gay but “cured” himself of homosexuality.

He made the comments on a trip to Japan where he mocked political opponent, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, by saying his movements show he is homosexual.

He said someone else had asked him about the senator’s sexuality. “I said, ‘Are you sure?’ He said ‘Ask any gay man and see that moving, they say that’s gay,’” Duterte said.

“Well, well, Trillanes and I are similar, but I got myself treated.” Duterte said that he “became a man again” when he began a relationship with his former wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman.

While the world awaits the outcome of Naira Marley’s bail application hearing before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos today, the embattled rapper has released new single titled ‘Why’, Naira Marley has been in the news since he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, May 10. The anti-corruption agency filed 11-count charges bordering on fraud and cybercrime against the ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy’ crooner and the case was postponed on May 20.

The Justice Nicholas Oweibo-led Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, adjourned the case to today, May 30 and ordered that hip-hop musician, Azeez Fashola, a.k.a Naira Marley, to be remanded in prison custody after he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

On the song, he hammered that he wants to have some fun today even if it costs him money. The single, released by his management, questions a lot of matters, from relationship issues, to fraud to yahoo yahoo, to friendship.

Most people who feel inclined to own a pet often go for the simple stuff – either a dog or a cute cat.

Lol but 33-year-old Zulkaif Chaudhary is a different breed. This Pakistani chap prefers living with a grown lion. Yes!

The man explained to Caters News Agency he bought the ‘big cat’ six months ago while it was still a little cub. The lion named Babbar eats around eight kilograms of meat per day and weighs whopping 76kgs.

According to Zulkaif, Babbar is around to roam around the house and is even fortunate enough to own a king size bed. The owner of the lion who is also a father terms the furry animal as his child and is opposed to chaining the king of the jungle.

“I have never chained Babbar nor will I ever because I love him like my own child,” he said. And if you think getting a lion was a decision made by the whole family then sorry to say you are wrong. Zulkaif did not notify anyone about his decision to buy the wild animal. Instead, he bought it and surprised his kin. “But they were all very happy to see him. They all come to meet him every day,” the wealthy dad said.

Could this be what they refer to as rich people problems? Just recently, Nigerian singer, Runtown bought a pet lion and several celebrities reacted to the news in funny ways. The singer who is known for his distinct Afrobeat sound shared a video of himself feeding the lion, whose white fur and innocent look could almost make it pass for something other than a wild predator.

Having acquainted his fans with his lovely pet lion, Runtown went on to ask his fans and friends what he should name his new companion. As expected, his simple request for a name turned into an outcry.
