Nairaland GeneralRe: Egbin Power Plant Shuts Down After Contractor Dies During Underwater Repairs by Chibuezem(m): 7:21am On May 01
dominique:
Egbin Power Plc has shut down operations following a fatal industrial accident involving a contractor during an underwater maintenance exercise.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, led to the shutdown of the plant, a major contributor to electricity supply on the national grid.

Confirming the development to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday, the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr Felix Ofulue, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

“Immediately following the incident, established emergency response, safety, and reporting protocols were activated, and the relevant authorities were promptly notified,” he said.

Ofulue said the company was cooperating with relevant authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that a review was ongoing.

“Egbin Power remains firmly committed to the health, safety, and well-being of all personnel and contractors, and to maintaining the highest standards across its operations,” he added.

‘How it happened’
A source, who preferred anonymity and familiar with the development, told NAN that the contractor was engaged in specialised underwater work at the plant’s pump house when the incident occurred.

The assignment reportedly involved retrieving or stabilising a submerged pumping machine.

The equipment was said to have unexpectedly powered on while the diver was still within the restricted zone.

“The diver went in to carry out a recovery operation inside the lagoon water pump system. Unfortunately, the pump came on unexpectedly and he was trapped and killed by the impeller,” a source said.

According to the source, the deceased contractor was affiliated with Browndive Underwater Services, a firm known for handling complex underwater industrial operations across Nigeria’s oil, gas, and maritime sectors.

PoliticsRe: Influence Will Not Save Tinubu This Time "Lawmakers Turns Against Bola Tinubu" by Chibuezem(m): 4:45pm On Apr 29
1nice:
President Tinubu's influence over lawmakers may not be enough to prevent his impeachment, as public pressure and demands for accountability continue to mount

Calls for President Bola Tinubu's impeachment are growing louder, with many Nigerians urging lawmakers to take decisive action between May 2026 and June 2026. Despite claims that Tinubu's influence over lawmakers would prevent impeachment, others argue that if enough Nigerians demand accountability, the National Assembly could initiate impeachment proceedings.

Reasons for tinubu impeachment are:
Nigeria's economy is struggling, with rising living costs and unemployment rates.
The country is grappling with insecurity, including Boko Haram and banditry.
Tinubu faces corruption allegations, eroding public trust in his administration.
Critics argue that Tinubu's government has not been transparent or accountable.

Some believe that Tinubu's impeachment is unlikely due to his perceived control over lawmakers. However, others counter that if the public persists in demanding change, lawmakers might be compelled to act.

If Tinubu is impeached, Vice President Kashim Shettima would assume the presidency, unless he declines, in which case Senate President Godswill Akpabio would take over. Some argue that Akpabio's leadership would be preferable to maintain regional balance and uphold the APC constitution's stipulation.

The situation remains fluid, with various factors at play. Will President Tinubu be impeached before June 2026, or will his influence prevail? Only time will tell.
We don't just want an impeachment, we want change across all sectors of leadership.
Uproot the rot which is APC from our political architecture, a party which once advocated for positive change but has delivered negative change in every sector . One that cannot tolerate opposition .
PoliticsRe: I’m Not Running To Be Second”: Peter Obi Rules Out Vp Slot To Atiku Abubakar by Chibuezem(m): 4:42pm On Apr 29
AMINDA:
At least play your politics right first and get the ticket before burning bridges. Obi was Atiku’s Vice in 2019. When did he become bigger than Atiku when he came third in 2023? If Obi goes solo in 2027, he will have less votes than he did in 2023. Every other region plays politics to win but it seems the Southeast plays just to prove a point. A Northerner was Vice to Obasanjo in 1999 and the North became President. A Southsoutherner was Vice to Yar'adua and the Southsouth became President. A Southwesterner was Vice to Buhari and the Southwest is currently President. A Northerner is now Vice to Tinubu and one doesn't even need to be a prophet to know power will be heading North. Being a VP is not subservience, it's strategy.

Only one region is missing from this equation and they keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. The Southwest was in this position where the Southeast currently is and Tinubu seized the opportunity by aligning with Buhari. You may repeat the same cliché and say the Southeast doesn't need the presidency to thrive but unborn children from the East will not be exempted from paying the loans on projects that are only sited in Lagos, other parts of the Southwest and the North. Often times, to gain power, you have to stoop to conquer.

RomanceRe: When A Naija Babe Says “no Sex Till Marriage,” Here’s What Smart Guys Do by Chibuezem(m): 10:08am On Apr 27
Pukkalolo:
When she tells you “ no sex before marriage…”

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that statement. On the surface, it’s simply a woman expressing her boundaries, and that deserves basic respect.

But as a man, how you respond to it should be dependent on two critical questions:

#1. What kind of woman is saying it?

And

#2. Why is she saying it?

Let’s begin with… what kind of female is telling you that?

— Is she a virgin, or semi-virgin (no penetration but other activities)?

Or

— Has she already had sex in the past?
But unfortunately… In 2026 Nigeria, “almost” no woman above 19 years is still a virgin. In fact, many start sexual experiences way before 16.

And once a girl has had sex… even once...it is ruined. Her heart has lost its innocence.

I saw that Nairaland front-page post where the guy dropped this gem:

“If she says no sex before marriage, support it… but tell her it also means no sex with anybody else before marriage.”

I laughed so hard I nearly spilled my drink. Bro, whoever you are… bless your pure heart, but you’re one hell of a naive guy.

It sounds principled on the surface. But the reality is... Modern Naija women in 2026 are far less likely to actually keep to your little no sex with anybody else deal.

Here's why:

Modern women have ridiculously more sexual options than at any point in history. The kind of options and body counts most girls rack up? Only men who are A-list or B-list celebrities are playing in that league.

When she gets Hot for sex, she just scrolls through her hundreds of DMs or picks from the squad of guys hovering around her like vultures.

For most guys, when they get Hot for sex? Their options are usually porn videos and a lonely night of "handling business" till they sleep.

So when you agree to her “no sex before marriage,” understand this: she’s not making the same sacrifice you are.

The power dynamic is lopsided from start. She’s asking you to give up something that's already scarce for you, while she’s only “sacrificing” something she has in ridiculous abundance for her. That’s not equal sacrifice, bro… that’s a psychological setup.

Also, one dark truth about the female species:

Women wear different faces for different guys.

When she's around the street-wise, raw, scumbag, sexually experienced dudes… she lets her real naughty freaky nature breathe freely.

But when she's around the nice, gentlemanly, “intentional,” pedestalizing brother? She suddenly becomes Sister Mary: proper, wholesome, holy, sexually reserved wife-material.

She doesn’t want you “good & intentional” men to know she loves sex just as much as (sometimes more than) men do. So she puts on the perfect Virgin Mary act, hoping the good boys will commit.

Anyway… back to the topic.

The dark truth most men refuse to swallow:

A woman who truly wants you romantically will usually find a way to get sexual with you — even before marriage — if the attraction and connection are high enough.

That brings us to the real question:

Why is she telling you “no sex before marriage”?

It’s usually one of two realities:

#1. She’s not that attracted to you.
You’re the safe, stable provider backup while she quietly gets her sexual needs sorted elsewhere.

Or

#2. She’s genuinely into you, but she’s carrying shame, religious guilt around sex with a man who hasn't paid her bride price, or… most likely… she just doesn’t trust you enough yet. She’s scared you’ll smash and dash once you get it.

Both sound the same on the surface (“no sex before marriage”), but they’re worlds apart for your future.

#1 is straight manipulation dressed as virtue.

#2 is real desire for you but blocked by fear of being used, or guilt from her mum, pastor, or imam’s sermons.

So what's the real move?

When she drops the “no sex before marriage” line, don’t argue or simp. First, figure out if she’s actually in category #2: that is, she genuinely wants you but is blocked by fear, guilt, or past trauma.

The cleanest way to test it? Make her invest in you: real effort, helping out, and yes, even spending money on you.

From my own experience:

I was vibing with this babe, things moving smooth, then one evening she hit me with the “no sex before marriage bla bla.” I found it funny because it was my first time hearing that one. I didn’t argue, didn’t negotiate, didn’t simp. Just replied calmly: “I get you. I’m not rushing anything either. We’ll see how it develops naturally.”

Then I flipped the frame and made her pay the toll to stay in my world… through real effort and financial investment.

Effort like: “Come through and help me with this: cook, organize, even review boring work documents…

If she resisted, I already knew she was a time-waster.

I ask for financial investment in different ways. For example… I once spotted a nice fancy shoe I liked and boldly told her to buy it for me. She laughed, said she no get money… then offered to pay half.

Throughout all her efforts and financial gifts, I never pushed for sex or seduced her hard. Why? Because her investment in me was doing the real seduction.

With time, she got comfortable. Touching started, lap sitting, kissing… everything.

That’s when I realized her “no sex before marriage” was never about holiness… she was just scared I’d use her body and dump her.

There’s more wisdom I could drop, but I’ll stop here:

Understand this: Her giving sex isn’t the only compatibility test. But refusing it *while* also refusing to invest in you? That’s not virtue, bro… that’s straight manipulation or exploitation.

Biggest red flag? You ask for even small financial investment and she hits you with:

“Are you not the man? Aren’t you supposed to be the one to provide and pay?”

My brother, run. You’re dealing with a woman who has zero genuine interest in you…just future problems wrapped in entitlement.

Here’s the harsh reality even your pastors won’t tell you:

If she’s not genuinely into you, or you’re incompatible on key things, waiting till marriage won’t magically fix shit.

Plenty men have waited, married, then regretted it bitterly when the bedroom turned cold and the sexual/romantic mismatch slapped them in the face: issues they should have discovered during courtship.
My own is whatever you apply to the female also do the same to male
A man can sleep around with 50 women but will open his mouth to shout that he can only marry a virgin

Ridiculous

PhonesRe: NCC Compensation: How To Get Paid By MTN, Airtel, Glo, & 9mob. For Poor Network by Chibuezem(m): 9:30am On Apr 25
Lord12345:
NCC begins airtime compensation rollout for MTN, Airtel, Glo & 9mobile users. Here’s how to get automatic payouts for bad network service in Nigeria for 2026.

You may now get paid for poor network as MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile begins airtime compensation rollout

SUMMARY
The NCC has mandated that MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile must automatically detect network failures in your area (LGA) and credit your balance with airtime restitution.
The compensation airtime is "clean" credit. Unlike promotional bonuses, this airtime has no expiry date and can be used for any service, including data bundles, international calls, or USSD sessions.
You qualify if you were in an affected LGA and performed at least one "billed activity" (call, text, or data use) during the outage.
Your network provider now owes you money! Here is how the new NCC automatic airtime payout works.

Nigeria’s telecom users may finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Following a recent order reported by Pulse Nigeria, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially begun rolling out its Consumer Compensation Framework.

Effective April 2026, mobile network operators (MNOs), including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile, are now required to automatically compensate subscribers for service failures that fall below regulatory standards.

Instead of telcos paying heavy fines to the government, you get the airtime instead. The system is currently backdating payouts to cover service failures recorded since November 2025.

What the new NCC policy means for you.
How to get paid by MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile for poor network

Under the new framework, if you are affected by verified network disruptions, such as dropped calls, failed SMS, or prolonged data outages, you will receive automatic airtime or data compensation.

The most important part is that it is automatic. You don’t need to call 180 or visit a service centre to beg for a refund.

Telcos are now required to use their own tracking systems to identify where the network is failing.

If you are in a Local Government Area (LGA) where service was substandard, the operator must credit your line.

How to know if you are eligible for a payout
How to get paid by MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile for poor network

According to the NCC guidelines, not every 2-minute glitch qualifies. To get your "sorry airtime", you generally need to meet these three conditions:

Be in the "Red Zone": You must be located in an LGA where network quality officially dropped below the NCC’s standard.
Be an Active User: You must have performed at least one "billed activity" (a call, an SMS, or used data) during the period of the failure.
Wait for the SMS: Once the compensation is processed, you will receive a text message from your provider explaining how much was credited and why.

Can I use the compensation airtime for anything?

Yes. The NCC has strictly warned operators that this compensation cannot have an expiry date. You can use it just like regular airtime to:

Make local and international calls.
Buy data bundles.
Access USSD services and bank codes.
Why is the NCC doing this now?
Network outages have been a major headache recently. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, Nigeria recorded over 570 major outages due to fibre cuts and vandalism.

By forcing telcos to pay subscribers directly for every hour of downtime, the NCC is making "poor service" very expensive for the companies, forcing them to fix infrastructure faster.

What about expired data bundles?
The NCC is also working with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to resolve lingering issues around suspended or unutilised data balances. This rollout is part of a broader push to ensure Nigerians finally get value for their money.
The title to this is misleading

Hongbenga:
STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPROVES N3.3 TRILLION PAYMENT PLAN TO RESTORE RELIABLE ELECTRICITY

President Bola Tinubu has approved the payment plan to finally settle the outstanding debts under the Presidential Power Sector Financial Reforms Programme.

The debt repayment plan followed the final review of the legacy debts that have beset the power sector for more than a decade.

The long-standing debts accumulated between February 2015 and March 2025. Following verification, ₦3.3 trillion has been agreed as a full and final settlement, ensuring a fair and transparent resolution.

Implementation has begun, with 15 power plants signing settlement agreements totalling ₦2.3 trillion. The Federal Government has already raised ₦501 billion to fund these payments. Out of the amount, N223 billion has been disbursed, with further payments underway.

What this means for Nigerians: With payments reaching the power value chain, generation will be more stable. With power plants supported, electricity reliability will improve.

And as the sector stabilises, more investment, more jobs, and better service will follow.

“This programme is not just about settling legacy debts. It is about restoring confidence across the power sector — ensuring gas suppliers are paid, power plants can keep running, and the system begins to work more reliably," explained Olu Arowolo-Verheijen, Special Adviser on Energy to President Tinubu.

“It is part of a broader set of reforms already underway — including better metering and service-based tariffs that link what you pay to the quality of electricity you receive.

“The government is also prioritising power supply to businesses, industries, and small enterprises — because reliable electricity is critical to creating jobs, supporting livelihoods, and growing the economy.

“The goal is simple: more reliable power for homes, stronger support for businesses, and a system that works better for all Nigerians," she added.

President Tinubu has commended all stakeholders who supported efforts to resolve the legacy issues in the power sector. He has also confirmed that the next phase (Series II) will begin this quarter.
