Even now, there's a thread on FP where obidients are now claiming he never raped the girl and that it was consensual and the reason the girl killed herself was because the money they claimed he paid her was not sufficient.

You see the kind of reasoning they are now applying for why the girl killed herself ?

These are the same set of people that defended Evans and started a hashtag on twitter demanding he be set free.

I have given up totally on these people.

Revenue from oil and other resources at the moment can't reach 200 billion dollars. We need something close to about 600-800 billion dollars or more annually before we can live the life we want to live.

Also, again, we do not set the prices.

Note that I don't always say tax, I also say that we should , I repeat, we should, become an industrial nation, because if we use our resources to make exportable goods and services, we can control the price of what we sell, which would make us rich.

It's that simple.

Oil right now, even without corruption, cannot fund our economy adequately

NOTE THAT I DID NOT SAY CORRUPTION NO DEY. But it takes time to recover stolen money, and we need things right now.

Taxes, or we borrow and borrow , and borrow.

By everyone, not by the rich. We've tried the rich people pay more method for electricity. It's not working because the revenue is not enough to ofsett losses from the bands where people pay below cost reflective tarrifs.

By everyone. Fair is far. Rich can pay a higher rate than the poor.

We need to pay more in tax as a nation, otherwise we just keep shut when government borrows again.

Sorry, but not this old line again. Not because it is not true, but because it has been said over and over again since independence...meaning you guys are not ready to remove them from office yet.
we don't need to pay tax we need to cut down in the cost on governance

Everyone has to pay a tax, it's how the saner climes have been doing for centuries even when it wasn';t benefiting them

Payment of tax is also the only way that people can be forced to hold their government to account.

Your revenue from oil and other raw materials will never be enough because the population is too large for them to sustain us, and we do not control the prices.

Infact your policy is what we have been doing since independence, and why we are broke and why corruption is rampant.

Won't change anything.

Your country is the way it is because you guys insist on having public services at knock down prices.

This prevents investment in said services, meaning they are inefficent, meaning that at the end things like massive industrialization are not possible. Also, debt results from keeping prices of such ultiites low

That means a large population of unemployed youth, some of whom take to crime.

Also, most of us do not pay tax. (Yes, the kids will now mock me). No tax, no money to modernize the police, pay for forensic labs, pay for better detention facilites, pay even for state run reformation centers, pay for better education facilites, and so forth

Result, maladjusted youth...more crime

Then at the end of the day, you all prefer imported stuff. More imports, less local production, no jobs...see the pattern.

And then you defend your corrupt politicans, meaning disgruntled people, meaning the next set of currpt ppoltiicans then present themselves as the good guys and then take over from where the others were chopping, while people support one side or the other because...government to them is about breads from the table.

Result...shitty economy.

All adds up.
why should I pay Tax when government have refused to use our natural resources for the betterment of the country ?

Direct insult to Christians’ — Vatsa knocks Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket for 2027

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has criticised the reported decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, warning that Christians will not support another Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Vatsa described the move as “a direct insult” to the Christian community, saying it was politically insensitive and could cost the ruling party Christian votes.

In a statement issued in Minna on Saturday, the former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism said the circumstances that justified the same-faith ticket in 2023 no longer existed.

“I think this is a grievous mistake by the APC. It is highly insensitive,” he said.

According to him, those behind the decision “did not mean well” for the President or the party.

“With the current situation in the country and the concerns over the safety of Christians, nobody expected the President to repeat this arrangement,” Vatsa said.

He argued that the APC would struggle to convince Christians to support its ticket in 2027, especially if other political parties field Christian candidates.

“What do you expect us to tell the Christian community, to vote for another Muslim-Muslim ticket?” he insisted.

Vatsa, who recently urged Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago to pick a Christian running mate for the 2027 governorship election, said Christians already feel insecure and would be more comfortable with a Christian vice-presidential candidate.

He warned that repeating the Muslim-Muslim ticket could have “grievous consequences” for the APC’s electoral chances.

The APC stalwart, however, clarified that his position was not against Vice President Shettima or the Muslim community.

“I have nothing against the Vice President or the Muslim community. I am speaking for equity, justice and fairness in the political arrangement of the country,” he added..

Instead, all your family members will also be arrested and persecuted no matter how angryn it makes Atiku and Peter Obi.

‎Beyond NYSC Reform: Why FG Must End The "Ghost Corps" Menace Now [Opinion]

‎BY- EGUNGWU CHUKWUKA BENJAMIN I will blame the government first for encouraging modern day slavery called NYSC where cheap labour is amassed by local employers some ppa don't have good accommodation , don't pay any stipends.
The salary scale of NYSC is poor and that is what encourages ghosting if federal government was paying ₦200,000 per corpmember and then their respective ppa is expected to pay at least ₦200,000 and above tell me why the average person will ghost.
Also if NYSC officials were well paid with free amenities that come with that office this will help curb the corruption.
I know a medical doctor who served in Akwaibom state facility(General Hospital ) and was paid ₦50k by the state per month tell me why will he leave his job of ₦250,000 to dance in the mud over ₦50k.
₦50k alone is not enough for one hospital admission in this country.
I enjoyed my service year and didn't ghost because of how hospitable the people were.
The best thing they can do for NYSC is 3 yearly review of their stipends to fit economical status of the country.
Bicycle allowance is still 1500 oh for how many years.

Remember

‎Before the recent reform announcement, many Nigerians had called for the scrapping of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), while others called for a reform. Critics argued that the scheme poses significant risks to corps members posted to high-risk regions, while others claimed the program is outdated and it's an inefficient use of time.

‎In response to these concerns, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) announced on Monday, June 29, 2026, that it had approved a structural overhaul to reposition the scheme. The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, stated that the reforms are necessary because "our needs as a country have changed." According to the Minister, the new framework will transition the NYSC from its current mobilization model to one centered on skills development, employability, and national unity.

‎In this commentary, I will refrain from discussing the debate regarding the iconic uniform to address a more pressing issue. A genuine reform must include a commitment to ending practices that are inefficient, dishonest, or damaging to the scheme's reputation. If the Federal Government truly intends to reposition the NYSC, it must address the "ghost corpsing" phenomenon to ensure the program is built on integrity, fairness, and accountability.

‎Before I participated in the service year in 2021/2022, "ghost corpsing" the practice of corps members receiving payment without performing their assigned duties was already a known secret. It is very wrong to receive a government allowance for work that was never performed. This is similar to the rot within the civil service, where individuals abandon their duties, skip work with no good reason or pad payrolls with the names of non-existing staff to siphon public funds. Some may treat this as trivial because it involves the government, no private business owner would tolerate such theft in their establishment.

‎If these new reforms are to be successful, they must curb this fraudulent practice. The government intends to tackle youth unemployment through skills acquisition, but integrity must be the foundation of this effort.

‎There are two primary groups that facilitate this menace: corrupt NYSC officials in charge of clearance, and supervisors at some Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs) who sign attendance and monthly clearance forms for absentees. This behavior goes against the NYSC Act. The law states the punishment for any act of fraud or breaking the rules. This includes prosecution, loss of allowances, and being blacklisted from receiving the Certificate of National Service.

‎Currently, some PPA supervisors sign documents for absentees out of personal favours or bribery, while some NYSC local government inspectors look away for personal gain. Technology could solve this. Implementing biometric or facial-recognition clock-ins, GPS-tagged attendance apps, and radom checks by independent monitors would help sanitize the system. While critics may point to epileptic power supply in rural areas or the lack of smartphones as obstacles, the government could mitigate these by prioritizing surprise, in-person visits to PPAs by independent task forces.

‎The core question remains: why should the government pay for services that were never rendered? This is a drain on public resources that must be stopped.

‎Many young Nigerians are eager to serve, gain experience, and acquire skills as they transition into the labor market. It is deeply unfair for "ghost" corps members to collect pay while others serve wholeheartedly. Those were committed to the scheme should be rewarded financially and professionally for their actual contributions. As a journalist, I believe integrity must be the bedrock of the new NYSC.

‎If this menace is not addressed, the new system will inherit the same rot. Imagine a corps member learning a skill for six weeks, then disappearing for the remaining 11 months while still collecting a salary. This would defeat the purpose of "skills development" and essentially teach participants that fraud is another career path.

‎By addressing this issue, the government can ensure it invests in citizens who are genuinely eager to contribute to national development. A balanced approach that rewards those who serve, and punish those who exploit the system is the only way forward.

‎In your view, who bears the most responsibility for "ghost corpsing"?

‎Corrupt NYSC officials, corps members who fail to serve, or the posting system that assigns graduates to PPAs with no real work?

‎Share your perspective and reasons below.

This may just be a coincidence. But isn't it strange that the day it was officially verified who the co-flagbearer of the APC presidential ticket in 2027 will be, the kidnapped school kids in Oyo were released?

Just a thought. Were the people behind the kidnapping trying to force the presidents hand? Was politics behind all this? The suffering of those kids? The killing of their teachers? Was the insinuation that the president may drop his vice a trigger for the kidnapping?

I'm pretty sure this is all a coincidence though. Special thanks to the president and indeed all the security agencies who worked for the release of those children. I pray such an incident never happens again.

After all that though, claiming Nigerians earning 60k Naira monthly are better off than Britons on £2800 is arrogant in my opinion and indicative of how Nigerian leaders are over-privileged and disconnected from the daily struggle and plight of the average Nigerian.
