Kicker the magazine that rates Bundesliga players rated him as the 18th best defender in that 2008/2009 and the 68th best overall player

Is that how you become the best in a league? Who is the 18th best defender in the EPL now? I am sure you will tell me the 18th best is actually number 1
Any Sikiratu,Chukwudi and mohammed can pick up a piece of paper and rank players. However the proof they say is in the punding. Was the 18th ranked EPL Defender the most Vital Defensive cog of a league winning side?

Actually false, according to kicker, Barzagli was the 18th best defender in the Bundesliga that year Wolfsburg won the league

He went from the 18th best defender to the 65th best defender and 54th
Kicker Magazine? That one nah popularity contest. The groundwork showed Barza as being the best defender in a league winning team.... BEAST!

When these parapo defenders are isolated they show their weaknesses. I am wishing Citeh will buy Bonnuci next season and Pep will use him in a high line from the half way line where he will have 40yards of space behind him
If ANY defender is isolated, they'll show their weaknesses as Boateng has found out quite a few times already. Isolate the pair of Baresi and Beckanbeur, let's see how they'll fair.

Please in which Bundeslia did Barzagli beast? The Austrian one or which? Barzagli who Wolfsburg bought for 11m and sold for 300K 3yrs later

Below is the report from Barzagli 3 woeful years in Germany

Barzagli was fortunate that his first season at the club coincided with one of the most potent three-pronged attacks in Bundesliga history—Grafite (28 goals, 11 assists), Edin Džeko (26 goals, 10 assists) and Zvjezdan Misimović (7 goals, 20 assists).

Felix Magath, who was relieved from his duties at Bayern Munich, led Die Wölfe to their first Bundesliga title, pipping Bayern by two points.

Not one Wolfsburg defender ranked in kicker's top 15 defenders, which was somewhat of an anomaly, since league champions generally always have at least one defender on that list.

What was the end result? Barzagli was dragged all over the place as Gómez netted four times.

Andrea didn't look like a €11 million-valued centre-back, but no one vehemently pointed out his flaws, since Wolfsburg were champions.

But this wasn't the case during the 2009-10 season, as Wolfsburg supporters found their scapegoat—an overpriced and overpaid Barzagli.

The club went from No. 1 to not even qualifying for the UEFA Europa League, mainly due to Andrea's gaffes at the back.

Where do you start?

Hamburg scored twice in seven minutes (they ended with four), with Barzagli being caught out of position time after time. Andrea then spent a month warming the benches.

In the 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund, he couldn't win the ball away from Lucas Barrios in a game in which Mohamed Zidan had Zizou-like moments.

Wolfsburg leaked 58 goals in the Bundesliga that season, with Andrea receiving the worst kicker rating on the team for players who started 20-plus games.

The following January, Wolfsburg management cut bait and sold Barzagli to Juventus for a loss of €10.7 million.

Here are Barzagli's ranking during his time at Wolfsburg:

How will this remind anyone of Terry or Rio 2 carry along defenders. Barzagli don turn correct defender? What you are seeing there is community defending. When you play community defence with 3 defenders average players can look good in it. Like David Luiz and Cahill

Your have Barzagli, Bonnuci, Chelinni, Alex Sandro Dani Alves come have Marchisio on on top How many defensive players in a team
Your definition of a carry along defender and mine differs. Besides you, everyone else knows Rio and Terry played key roles in their team's success.

Don't get it twisted, Barza is a good defender. He beasted the Bundesliga when Wolfsburg won the title. He was the best central defender in your league that year.

How will this remind anyone of Terry
Take each one of them out from the parapo defence and see the scores like Barzagli found out in Wolfsburg or like Canavaro found out in Madrid
Which Kind of crazing reasoning is this? Which great defender past or present has not benefited in one way or another from community defending? Maybe we should say all defenders are equal then since they've all benefited from parapo defending. Stick Shawcross in the Munich teams of the 70s, i'm sure He'll be as highly rated as Der Kaiser.

A more experienced AJ probably knocks out Klitschko early. The boy is still quite green and has never faced a Klitschko before

Fury is still a bit too heavy. I can't attest for A.J's chin and cardio yet but if it holds up I'm pretty sure he can knock Fury out. He beat Klitschko but Klitschko did not take much punishment at all. Tonight he took a beating
A more experienced AJ knocks down a 42yeard old Klitschko early but not a younger and fitter Klitschko.

Fury has always been on the heavy side. Don't think that would ever change. He certainly has the punching power to knock out Fury but I don't know man with his reach advantage, I think He'll be boxing from the outside.

He certainly took one helluva beating last night. Tbh so did AJ. Infact Fury is taunting AJ on twitter saying He's bout was much smoother.

I watch am from pali to pali. I wouldn't have forgiven myself if I missed that fight.

Joshua nearly fall my hand walahi. Between Rounds 6-9 he looked dead and buried. Even after dropping Klitschko he froze and looked wasted.

I always felt Joshua had too much power in his blows to not floor Wlad at least once. Did you see that uppercut? What I underestimated was his inexperience. It was a priceless endurance lesson he learned today

Props to Klitschko. If he fought like this against Fury he would still be champ. He needs to retire though. Going for a rematch would be suicide.
Loool.. I just find one pub. The atmosphere even at the Pub was banging.

There was a lot of toing and froing. When Wladmir first got knocked down, I thought it was over then AJ got knocked and this time I was certain it was over. Just could not see a way back as that was the time AJ was starting to struggle fitness wise.

Mate that Uppercut sent chills down my spine. The thing weak me. His lack of endurance was one of things I was most wary off. Never been past round 6 ever and it showed in the later rounds.

I agree. Had He brought this sort of attitude and fighting spirit vs Fury, He would have won. His head and feet movement were impeccable last night. Against Fury, He looked Heavy and a bit disinlnterested

Because terry is a legend and has been there, done it and has the tshirt, will not let me believe he is better than umtiti this morning. You asked for better cbs, i gave you. Put boathand and van dijk on transfer market, let's see who big clubs and experts will prefer. I dont exaggerate on boathand, ask yourself why he hasnt proved me wrong every season. Do you want me to rate him while playing against the bochums of this world ? Man city chased him away as he would have been a liability in the epl. If alaba could play cb successfully for bayern, tell me why i should rate an ordinary defender who quaked in front of oscar, martinez, ozil, dayo's overrated aguero, hidden hazard, long and iranian azmoun? Did boathand have injury when he gave aguero free goal? Was he injured when he was shouting halleluyah, caressing the ball in the box? Was he injured when Jupp was warning him of costly mistakes he always made ? We've had terry playing with injuries for a whole season with minimal errors in the past. Why cant boathand disappoint me throughout a season? He is nothing but hype job.
That's not a good comparison. Is Terry even amongst your top 4 central defenders? If He wasn't a Chelsea Legend, He'll be playing for the reserves right now.

Van Dijk? Claude Puel would ask if this is a joke. If Boateng for some reason decides to take up dutch citizenship, the dutch FA would have no qualms sending Him back to Suriname. Even the saints would deny ever knowing Him if you were to put the two of them on the market. Van D#@k ko Van P@$y ni.

You don't want to rate The tank based on his performances against the likes of Bochum but you want me rate Toby based on performances against the likes of Hull? huh cheesy. Ohhh so now we are going back to moons ago when Boateng was still an up and coming versatile defender? I'd happily take you back to Pique's time at Old trafford too or Bonucci's at Inter Milan. Doesn't look good does it?

You are simply just cherry picking. Same thing Dayo does when He wants to downgrade Terry. Let Him keep disappointing you whilst He does Fans of Germany and Munich proud.

Boateng is an elite defender. I don't chime in during debates concerning him because I know it is just pure banter. He has played well at the highest level of games and has experienced lows that every other elite defender has experienced in a bad patch. Sergio Ramos is not a better one on one defender than Boateng. Bonucci will only dream to have Boateng's passing ability and awareness. Piqué is not as quick as Boateng and Chiellini does not have Boateng's finesse. Umtiti is not as fleet-footed as Boateng - who can make long range passes with both legs/feet. People don't realize he was heavily sedated to play that game against RM and even at that, he made 3 great blocks and tackles that could have made that scoreline uglier than it was.
Apart from one or two things, I am with you on this. I too most times join in with the banter even going as far as liking some of those posts because I find it extremely funny but abeg let's give credit to whom it's due. Consistently holding down a place for two of the biggest institutions in world footy no be beans. And He is doing it on merit too.

So why should Alexis go beyond 60
Difference in ability my man. The skillset Sanchez brings to a side is more valuable than what Vidal brings.

The law of supply and demand. Kroos although a quality player was not as sought after as Sanchez is. Plus let's be honest that was one of the bargains of the decade. As for Van Persie, that was ages ago. The transfer market has changed since then.

Bargain? For a player turning 30 next year? Kilagbe kilaju? I would rather break that record on a younger Mbappe. Paying £60m for a player that old with one year left to run on his deal. That's a bit excessive for any player not named Ronaldo or Messi.
Dude does not even turn 29 until december so there is still a bit of time left. A bargain for a player of his calibre. They are few and far inbetween. It might have been excessive in the past but in the current market i'm afraid it's not
