Okay so this thread has been super useful and informative to me I have decided to grow it by giving back!I had my visa interview in Lagos yesterday and the transcript is below:
DH: Gd day ma'm
V.O: gdmorning, how are u both related?
DH: we are married.
V.O: for how long?
DH: ...............
VO: Any kids?
DH: No but we are expecting
VO: So what exactly do u do in your place of work.
DH: .......................
VO: what is your highest qualification?
DH:...........................
VO: turns to me and asks me to describe my job role and my highest qualification
Me:................
VO: what's your purpose of traveling?
DH: childbirth
VO: so how do u intend to afford it when yo have been married for a short time, have u been able to save?
DH: I had savings before marriage which was in a fixed deposit.
V.O: ok so have you contacted any doctor and do you have any idea what it would cost?
Me: Yes I did some research and I came across my doctor who has high ratings and I contacted him. Here is the correspondence indicating the cost as well.
VO: glances through and nods! Am glad you chose a good hospital.
VO: Do u have any relatives in US?
Me: No I don't.
V.O:where wld you be staying?
Me:I intend to use Soulcare concierge, I contacted them and I was sent a copy of their rates which I used to plan.
V.O:How long do u intend to stay?
Me: 8 weeks
V:O: I think that is too short cos baby may be too tender to fly. Contact your doctor and ensure you fly at the appropriate time with the baby.
V.O turns to D.H and jokingly asks if he wld be going with me or when the baby arrives.
DH: smiles and says he wld be there much later to welcome baby because of work.
V.O: ok that's great! Your visa wld be ready in 3working days.bla bla bla

..mild pain started early hrs of 5th, by the time I got to d hospital as I was 2hrs away, I was 4cm dilated, baby arrived 11.6.16. (Vaginal birth no epidural - d pain no b here, I wnt try that next time) note that each time I look at my son d pain fades the more..

Was discharged after 2days
Dr 850, hosp 2078, paedtrician 1228, healthy baby 264 . hearing test cancelled

Gt birth certificate after 2weeks
Nig passport 240 expedited at d embassy n got it next day.
US passport 165 expedited n gt it next day at Washington passport agency.

Infant ticket with BA $349. De insisted baby's ticket is 1 way saying that's d remaining part of d trip as baby mst be attached to an adult else I purchase another ticket for myself returning to US. Payed at d airport on departure.

On board bassinet was provided, air hostess were of great help as I was alone from Washington to London. As usual entertainment was great.

Landed Abj 6th aftr the long layover very tired.
Mother and child are doing great thankfully.
Indeed my case has been different. Another testimony- gt a new job as I was away.

God's grace to everyone in d house.
Also met Tolu a fellow NL mama. It's been a pleasure meeting a friend and sister in diaspora.. We had a great time. .

Hi guys. Abv been a silent reader for some time! Please am a July mum and DH and I are on a tight budget for our missionary journey. Please I need options for very affordable hospitals (less than $5k for all d hidden and unhidden hospital bills) nd accommodation so that I can see the one I wld use and shop for baby Biko! Any additional tip wld help. Am considering Houston for now but if Deres a cheaper state, am open! Thanks!

God I thank you for posting me to akwa ibom, which is the main thing my Lord am grateful. Thou I very much wanted to be in stream 2, but God knows the best. In my own opinion and from what I see from the postings it seems nysc post the streams depending on the proximity of ur state to that of ur state of deployment. For example, if u are from southern Nigeria n ur posted to north east or north west u will likely be in stream 2 and vice versa also if u re from the north east and u re posted to north west or central u may definitely be in stream 1 and this is equally applicable to the southern part I.e if ur from south south and u re posted to the south east u may also definitely be in stream 1. Then those from the south east and south west posted to the nearer states of the north central like kogi, Benue, kwara.and FTC may be in stream 1 and those posted to far north central states like nassarawa, Niger and plateau may be stream 2, and those from the south south may definitely be stream 2 for the whole northern states And vice versa.
My opinion thou.

I am posted to Akwa Ibom, but being a core Hausa Fulani Northerner that I am I can't decide whether to redeploy or not. I know alotta doctors so medical report aint gone be problem. But the thing is I love adventure, and always look forward to serving outside North. Now I don't wanna go there and regret it for 1 good year. Advice please.

akwaibom ayaya!! U dnt knw what u ve been missing till it arrives!! A Lot to enjoy! From d 10k allowee, to a neat beautiful state with tourist attractions, has d longest coast in 9ja as well as a rich cultural heritage.. in akwaibom, u can be sure of good food an hospitality.. den dey have oil! And oil companies dere... err witchcraft is high dere... lol so carry ur holy Koran. Also dnt bring a dog wiv u!
