During an interview on The Morayo Show, 55-year-old actress Shaffy Bello advised young women facing Nigeria's harsh economy to use 'runs' only short-term, like supporting family, before pursuing better paths. She stressed self-worth, saying women don't need to expose themselves for success, and framed it around investing in one's future. Reactions online ranged from praise for her empathy and realism to criticism that it encourages vice, with some noting double standards compared to male hustles like internet fraud.

Lady arrested after using torn Bible pages to smoke weed A disturbing video making rounds on social media has sparked widespread reactions after a Nigerian lady was reportedly apprehended for smoking weed wrapped in torn pages of the Bible. In the viral footage, the woman, dressed in a colourful outfit and a white hijab, was seen holding what appeared to be cannabis rolled with pages allegedly torn from a Bible while being questioned by a man behind the camera. During the exchange, the woman openly admitted to the act and appeared unbothered by the accusations levelled against her. “I am very proud of what I’m using,” she said. When asked whether she was smoking the substance, the woman responded, “Yes, to pray!” The man recording the video claimed the woman had previously undergone rehabilitation after authorities reportedly removed her two children from her custody over concerns about her mental and emotional condition. According to him, she had shown signs of recovery after receiving treatment and allegedly promised to stop smoking weed before she was allowed to return home. He, however, alleged that the woman recently relapsed and was again caught smoking cannabis wrapped in pages torn from the Bible. “She tears a portion of the Bible and wraps the weed with it. This is what she’s smoking,” the man said in the clip. The narrator further claimed the woman caused a disturbance near the entrance of a children’s school earlier in the day, prompting concerned individuals to intervene. “She has deteriorated seriously and has been causing nuisance,” he added. https://x.com/instablog9ja/status/2059683188549534102?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2059683188549534102%7Ctwgr%5E518b58455010461dbf44acde4009f098d75312bf%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gistreel.com%2Flady-arrested-after-using-torn-bible-pages-to-smoke-weed%2F

African Women Join New Online Craze: The Love-Shape Hip Challenge. There is a fresh wave of fun making the rounds on social media, and this time it involves a bit of bending and a lot of laughter. A new challenge has caught the attention of many women across Africa. The task is simple: pose with your hips in a way that forms the shape of a heart. The challenge asks a woman to stand up straight first. Then she bends forward until her head touches her knees. When done just right, the curve of her lower back and hips creates a love heart shape from a certain angle. It sounds tricky, and honestly, not everyone gets it perfect on the first try. But that is part of the fun. The trend first appeared on the page of a popular social media influencer and dancer known as Lally M. It is not clear whether she invented the challenge or simply mastered it before anyone else. What people do know is that she was the first person to post a video or photo where the love shape came out clearly. Since then, she has been sharing pictures of other women who have tried the move and succeeded. From there, the challenge spread like a happy fire. Women from different parts of Africa have joined in. They post their own attempts on Facebook and other platforms. Some get it right, others get a good laugh from their failed tries, and that is exactly why many people say this challenge is different. There is no pressure to be perfect. The whole point is to have fun and share a light moment with others. What makes this trend interesting is how it brings people together without any heavy message or serious cause behind it. It is simply women having a good time, showing off a little creativity, and cheering each other on. In a time when social media can sometimes feel like a place for arguments and bad news, this is a welcome break. We have gathered some of the best photos from the challenge so you can see for yourself how different women have pulled it off. Take a look and drop a comment below. Tell us who you think did it best.

“I Didn’t Mean to Kill the Others,” Says Suspect Arrested for Poisoning 3 Friends in Lagos. Police have arrested a man in connection with the poisoning that killed three young artists at a studio in Lagos, an incident that shocked the city. The arrest follows the death of an artist named Segun and his two friends, who fell ill and died after a meeting for a birthday photo shoot. The suspect, who was known to the victims, was taken into custody earlier this week. During questioning, he provided a motive that has left many struggling to understand. According to police accounts of the interrogation, the man said he had asked his friend Segun for financial help in 2025. He explained he needed five million naira to solve a pressing problem. Segun sent him 500,000 naira instead. This partial assistance, far from easing the tension, apparently bred a deep resentment. The man told investigators he grew angry, believing Segun, whom he considered wealthier, could and should have given more. “I didn’t mean to kill the three of them,” the suspect is reported to have said during questioning. He claimed his intended target was only Segun, but because the two other artists shared the poisoned food, they also died. The new details from the investigation have set off a wave of discussion across Nigeria, with many people expressing horror and sadness online and in conversations. The central question troubling the public is how a disagreement over money could lead to such a deadly act. The incident has also prompted warnings from community leaders and psychologists about recognizing unhealthy relationships. Many are urging people to be mindful of their personal circles and to seek help during conflicts rather than letting grievances grow. Lagos police confirm the suspect remains in custody and that the investigation is continuing. No date has been set for a court appearance. As the legal process begins, the families of the three young artists are left to mourn, and a nation is left debating a simple, painful question: what should happen to a man who would allegedly poison a friend over money, and in doing so, claim two other innocent lives?

18-year-old boy accused of k!lling his parents to steal their money and fund President Trump assassination plot pleads guilty to homicide A Wisconsin boy accused of k!lling his parents and stealing their money to fund a plan to assassinate President Donald Trump pleaded guilty to two homicide counts in a deal with prosecutors Thursday, January 8, 2026, locking himself into two life prison sentences. Nikita Casap, 18, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide in Waukesha County Circuit Court in connection with the d3aths of his stepfather, Donald Mayer, and his mother, Tatiana Casap, last year, Associated Press reported. In exchange, prosecutors dropped seven other charges, including two counts of hiding a corpse and theft. Each homicide count carries a mandatory life prison sentence. Judge Ralph Ramirez could choose to make Casap eligible for parole after he serves 20 years on each count when he is sentenced on March 5. Casap trembled in his seat at the defense table as Ramirez asked him if he understood the ramifications of his pleas and whether he shot his mother and Mayer. He responded “Yes, your honor” to everything. Casap’s attorney, public defender Joseph Rifelj, spoke only to confirm the terms of the plea agreement with Ramirez and to say that he had sufficient time to speak with Casap about it. Rifelj left the hearing without speaking to reporters. District Attorney Lesli Boese told reporters outside court that her goal was to force Casap to accept responsibility for his parents’ deaths and two mandatory life sentences amount to sufficient punishment. She said she will push Ramirez to deny Casap any chance at parole. She said Casap is a “danger to the community and that she didn’t want to take any chances that he could be rehabilitated According to a criminal complaint, investigators believe Casap shot his stepfather and mother at their home in the village of Waukesha on or around February 11. He lived with the decomposing bodies for weeks before fleeing across the country in his stepfather’s SUV with $14,000 in cash, jewelry, passports, his stepfather’s gun and the family dog, according to the complaint. He was eventually arrested during a traffic stop in Kansas on February 28. Federal authorities have accused Casap of planning his parents’ murders, buying a drone and explosives and sharing his plans with others, including a Russian speaker. They said in a federal search warrant that he wrote a manifesto calling for Trump’s assassination and was in touch with others about his plan to kill Trump and overthrow the U.S. government. “The killing of his parents appeared to be an effort to obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary to carrying out his plan,” that warrant said. Detectives found several messages on Casap’s cellphone from January 2025 in which Casap asks how long he will have to hide before he is moved to Ukraine. An unknown individual responded in Russian, the complaint said, but the document doesn’t say what that person told Casap. In another message Casap asks: “So while in Ukraine, I’ll be able to live a normal life? Even if it’s found out I did it?
