IBB didn't have absolute power he still needed to conduct a free and fair election to handover power to civil rule. This was obviously also guided by some rules or laws.

Also u saying Abacha arrested Mko lime he arrested Obasanjo is so disingenuous. We all know why he arrested diya and Obasanjo which was because of of an assumed or alleged coup plot but why did he arrest Mko?

Also he arrested Mko a year b4 he arrested Obasanjo and diya or others. So yes Mko was a special case and reason for him.
i dont really understand your quest, evil is evil which one is one evil is better than the other
Was Mko the only civilian Abacha arrested, shehu sani nko ?? was the execution of saro wiwa indisingenuous ?? was that coup tew

i dont know what you think you know but your beliefs are questionable

Abacha had finalized the execution of diya and obasanjo , which one is not special case to abacha,

I understand that you don't understand. Only very few people who know what's going on behind the scene in the currency market would know.

Yes, the CBN has been buying excess dollars coming in into the country.

If the CBN had not been buying those excess dollars in recent weeks, naira may have risen sharply, may be to up to N1350. But it may not have been sustainable for more than a week or 2, then the dollar may have fallen back to maybe N1600.

Nigerian manufacturers and even foreign investors do not like or want such volatility. They prefer stability.

And the CBN has delivered some stability for the naira since the start of the year. They did not want the excess dollar inflow to cause instability, hence the reason the CBN stepped in and bought the excess dollars, WITH NAIRA.

So as you can see, the CBN not only sells dollars to defend the naira, it can also buy excess dollars to ensure the naira doesn't rise too sharply and inorganically.

The man on the street may want naira to jump to N1200, N1300 etc, but manufacturers, foreign investors, and the CBN do not want that to happen suddenly.

So explain why Abacha arrested abiola? Ohh it was IBB that told him to do it as his Boss? Abacha was already taking chain of command towards IBB last days in office.

Yes IBB didn't want to give Abiola perhaps and that gave Abacha the green light to take advantage of the situation.

U make Abacha seem like a weakling but no soldier is a weakling and no soldier is an absolute genius.

I can only best describe IBB situation like buhari in the 2023 elections. They don't who they want to support and won't do the right thing so leave it open to the more ruthless or desperate..

I call IBB/Buhari Pontius pilate cos they have the power but act like they don't have the power so they don't take the blame and wash their hands clean of the situation.
There is nothing to explain, Abacha arrested lots of prominient names, Mko Abiola is just one of them, obasanjo, diyah, shehu sani were all Abacha prisoners ... so you cant single out Mko arrest as " Personal"

If Nigerians consensusly deem it fit to call IBB "evil genius" were there no military head before IBB and after ...i trust there judgement

Buhari situation is a democratic dispensation there is nothing he could do than follow the rules But IBB is a selfish bastard who does not care what happens when he leaves ... he somehow knew Abacha was scheming, But he was done nd wanted come out unscratched .. so he quickly relinquish power to interim govt "shonekan" ... maradona indeed cheesy

Once again Buhari and IBB are not under same circumstance, buhari has power guided by the constitution
IBB had power guided by him, his word is final, Power is influence and what IBB does when he is not dictating is to "influence" the situation cheesy thats why we call him evil genius

So Mr Buhari was spending $10 billion per year to keep the rate at around N650 to $1 (only people going for hajj, and highly connected politicians got dollar for N450).

Now let's assume the current government spent $4 billion in each of the past 2 years.

But so far this year (2025), more dollars have been flowing in than the Nigerian currency market can absorb.

The CBN is stepping in to buy that excess dollars.

Effectively, there has been a complete turnaround. The CBN is not currently defending the naira due to excess dollar inflow.

That means if this situation persists for most of this year, the CBN's annual intervention may fall from the claimed $4 billion to my be $1 billion - $2 billion.

Isn't that fantastic.

Remember, as I mentioned previously, during early Feb, Brazil was spending $7 billion PER DAY to defend its currency.

If Nigeria ends up spending $2 billion PER year to defend the naira this year, please let us appreciate the work of the CBN a little.

There is no perfect country in the world.
i dont understand you, CBn intervention on forex simply means "injecting" more dollar into the market, which one is Cbn os buying up again

U seem to be missing my point I did not say IBB was a saint offcourse he was evil but liked to do it unnoticed but Abacha was prepared to do worse. Abacha Killed abiolas wives and many NADECO members to the extent tinubu had to run for his life. IBB didn't harm Abiola but Abacha didn't care who abiola or anybody was.

My point is Abacha was more desperate than IBB in the circumstances surrounding June 12. IBB had less to lose he was already due to leave power to someone or anyone.

Abacha's forces wanted power after IBB. I'm happy some of Abacha's forces are alive to counter IBB if they know any better.
You are trying to say IBB is better than Abacha But i am saying who hires an assasin is not better than the assassin.

Nothing new.

Every country steps in to support their currency.

In late January 2025 (last month), Brazil was spending about $7 billion dollars PER DAY! to support its currency against the dollar.

Around the same period, India spent over $20 billion dollars within 3 days to support the Indian Rupee.

Japan spent over $60 billion to defend the Yen against the dollar last year, yet the Yen has lost so much value against the dollar in the past 2 years.

If Nigeria spends $8 billion in 2 years, that's still reasonable, compared to when we were spending about that amount every year under Mr Buhari.

Truth is, the dollar is just too powerful against most currencies. Many governments have to defend their currencies, otherwise...
You are not okay, you need checkup asap

Buhari spent 10billion to keep forex at $1/480, and you think spending 8billion in 2yrs to keep $1 @ 1500+ is better

The Government has started doing what should have been done after the refineries started RN25F1. There is no reason the dollar shouldn't fall to N500. Our refineries are working. Let's stabilize foreign exchange and see multinationals come back to invest in Nigeria.
Refineries you say, where are the evidences, they told you Ph and warri refinery is back yet report shows Nnpc is the largest importer of pms into the country

The same Nnpc that claimed Ph and warri refinery are working retorted they are taking PMS from dangote in desperation to save face from alleged inferior fuel importation.

Economics is not rocket science, garbage in equals garbage out, impact is nonexistence cos these govt are not sincere one bit, they are just fooling around and looting money

Dangote + Ph and warri refineries can meet our daily demand exceedingly, why cant govt place a import ban on Pms @least for a short term lets see if there is any ripple effect or not .. instead of doing the same thing and expecting different results

IBB did not lie.

I believe now that Abacha was either fully or partly behind the annulment of June 12. For various reasons I will list now.

1, When IBB handed over power to an interim government. Abiola was still fighting for his mandate, He never accepted the annulment.. Ibb did nothing to abiola cos they were actually friends.

2. It was Abacha who after forcing Sonekan who was interim president to step aside in a peaceful coup that now ordered arrest of Abiola, IBB was no longer in power nor interested in power. Abacha could have fixed the problem since he was in power since he knew everything about it but choose to show he was either the mastermind or partly involved and went further to finish the job cos he was power hungry.

3. Abacha wanted power and would definitely not let abiola have it. IBB was indifferent but went along with the strongest influence (just like buhari did in 2023 elections) and let Abacha have his way or go with his idea... Both IBB and Buhari are like Pontius pilate.

They don't commit the crime but they allow the crime to be committed and do nothing to stop it.

4. IBB despite being president at the time cannot act alone on a decision of such magnitude. He consulted with people. Who were they? Abacha was one of them surely.

5. If IBB was evil, which he was, Abacha was evil pro max.
I was about giving your perception a thought but the highlighted depict you dont even know what you saying

Military president denotes " Dictatorship" i.e the GCFR have the sole right to dictate

IBB have the power and right to act alone... he gives instruction nd it is folllowed/executed

Abacha as a chief of staff as no power to act without IBB even if he did, IBB as sitting GCFR can nullify it and do what he wants

if IBB had come out to announce Mko Abiola as president nothing a million Abacha can do about it.

Abacha is wicked But IBB is evil full option .... do you know what full option is undecided

Very good questions
Agbadorians have made Akintola their supreme hero all of a sudden just to drive home a faulty narrative of the January coup plotters being ethnic champions. Ask them why Awolowo was not killed since he was the real leader of the south west, and they start speaking as if the have hot ewa in their mouths.
Now in a desperate attempt to undermine history, it is why was Awolowo not killed

Even though Awolowo was a prime minister he wasnt really a threat by virtue of his ideology .. Awolowo wanted west to stand alone, and the east never wanted a coalition of west and North,

Ladoke Akintola on the other hand was a threat pushing for a coalition with the North.. thats what east dont want, so he became the appropriate target in west.

Even till now Igbos cant stand, southwest and North coalition they prefer they replace west

IBB has even made his remaining days on earth more distasteful, he thought that if he could buy over some section of the country by making them feel good about the atrocities they committed against other regions, he would have dribbled his way through among Nigerians but he would even be regretting more now as his last days draws nearer.

On Election Annulment; he says he wasn't aware when Abacha announced the annulment grin

On why he did not fire Abacha; he says if he did, it might cause chaos or civil war grin

On the death of Dele Giwa; he says it was the media trying to blackmail his Government grin

On the murder of Vatsa; he said it was the military panel that recommended his death penalty and there was nothing he could have done grin

On the coup; he says "Those who argued that the original intention of the coup plotters was anything but ethnic refer to the fact that the initial purpose of the plotters was to release Chief Obafemi Awolowo from prison".

Like the Maradona that he is, he says "those who argued", he didn't say it was a fact, he didn't say it was his own opinion but he says "those". But ipob are jumping around quoting IBB ignorantly. This is why people called him the Maradona, very deceptive individual.
