ENUGU-Tragedy struck at Ugwuoba in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State at the weekend when an Indian hemp smoker axed his father to death for advising him to desist from taking hard drugs.[b]The deceased, Mr. Christopher Onu was attacked by his son, Ikenna Onu [/b]at his home in Aguabosi village in Ugwuoba community in a gruesome manner throwing the entire village into morning.According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the deceased who was a farmer, had shortly after returning from farm on July 4, 2014 called his son, Ikenna, to his room where he advised him to desist from smoking weeds believed to be indian hemp in order to avoid ruining his life.Angered by his father’s wise counsel, Ikenna who was suspected to be under the influence of the hard drug, allegedly picked up an axe and cut his father’s head open.The old man was said to have slumped immediately and bled to death.The police spokesman said that the suspect was arrested and now being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department of the State Police Command in Enugu.He said that investigations had commenced into the gruesome murder of the farmer whose corpse had been deposited at General Hospital mortuary Oji River for autopsy.

The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded three pregnant women and a 36-year-old man suspected to be involved in producing babies for sale.

[b]The ‘baby factory’ suspects, who were arrested at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area, on July 5, 2014, were identified as Odinchinma Nwala (25), Glory Anyanwu (22), Goodness Nwankwo (19), and Stanley Okechukwu (male, 36).

[/b]The Divisional Police Officer of Igwuruta Police Station, Mr. Bello Muhammed, told newsmen that they were able to apprehend the suspects after being alerted by well meaning Nigerians.

Muhammed, a Chief Superintendent of Police, explained that it got signals that someone was operating a baby factory in Umuehe in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area.

“We sent a patrol team that went and confirmed the information. When the police traced and arrested Okechukwu, who took the team to where he kept the girls on Saturday, July 5, 2014, it was discovered that the suspects had been involved in the business for a long time.

“The girls were brought from different local government areas, and further investigation revealed that after delivering, he will settle (pay) the girls N100,000 per baby girl and N150,000 for a baby boy before selling the babies,” the DPO said.

Mohammed said he was following the directive of the state Commissioner of Police to enlighten the communities within his jurisdiction on the need for landlords to be mindful of the people they habour in their houses and their occupations.

He explained that investigation was ongoing to get to the root of the matter, adding that child trafficking remains an offence in the country.

However, Okechukwu, who spoke with newsmen, denied operating a baby factory. He added that he was only rendering assistance to the young pregnant women.

Also, one of the pregnant women, who identified herself as Glory Anyanwu, said she was eight months pregnant, even as she denied that they were being kept for a baby producing business.

“He (Okechukwu) saw me in this condition and decided to assist me by offering me and my unborn baby accommodation. But I know the person that impregnated me,” Anyanwu said.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has again raised the alarm over the congestion of police cells in the state following the ongoing strike by judiciary workers.

The state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria had embarked on an indefinite strike since June 10, over the crisis in the state judiciary.

LAGOS — Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), yesterday, arrested a 34-year- old drug suspect with 1.370 kilogrammes of whitish powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.The suspect, Mr. Nriagwu Augustine Ifeanyi, was apprehended during the screening of passengers on a Turkish Airline flight at the departure hall of the airport.Speaking on the arrest, NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, noted that the suspect hid the drug and packed them in two parcels inside a laptop bag.Umar noted that if the suspect had not been arrested at the airport, he would have proceeded to South Sudan upon arrival at Turkey.He said: “The suspect was found with two parcels of cocaine industrially hidden by the sides of his laptop bag. He was detected on his way to Turkey from where he would have proceeded to South Sudan. The drug tested positive for cocaine and weighed 1.370kg.”Meanwhile, Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade said that the agency would continue to engage in both drug supply and demand reduction activities towards making the country drug-free.

The Police in Nsukka, Enugu State, recently, arrested a 53-year-old man who claims to be the Pastor of Ministry of the Holy Trinity in Umudikwere community whom they alleged specializes in impregnating married women and young girls in his ministry.

Police sources alleged that the Pastor identified as Timothy Ngwu, the General Overseer of Ministry, sexually abuse female members of the ministry and claim that the Holy Spirit directs him to do so in the name of God.
How it was blown open

Crime Alert gathered that the alleged sexual exploits of the self-acclaimed man of God was blown open when his estranged wife, Veronica Ngwu, who hails from Udi L.G.A and have three children for the pastor, could no longer stomach the sexual rascality of her husband. She reportedly lodged complaint with the Anti- Child Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department, Enugu, which led to the arrest of Timothy Ngwu, for alleged sex and child abuses/trafficking.

Veronica, the estranged wife of the suspect reportedly informed the police that she escaped from the ministry with one of her daughters when her husband impregnated her niece and claimed he was obeying the directives of the Holy Spirit and a prophetic revelation. She also informed detectives led by Gloria Udoka (DSP) that the situation at the Vineyard ministry of the Holy Trinity was better imagined than seen alleging that her husband converts married women and single girls to his own and impregnates all of them while pretending to be obeying spiritual directives.

His claims

The Pastor allegedly claimed that the women he had sexual intercourse with in his ministry was as a result of directives from the Holy Spirit and with the consent of their husband, if married, but for the single, a spiritual directive. Ngwu who until his arrest, was a Scrutiny Officer and Statistician with National Bureau of statistics, one time Assistant Catechist at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ihe- Owerre, Nsukka and now General Overseer, Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity, Umudikwere, Nsukka where he inducts married women and young girls seeking for solution or favor but ends up impregnating them.

Police statement
The police in Enugu also alluded to the allegations when it issued a statement through the Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amarizu, stating that two women, among others in the enclave of the vineyard, left their husband to reside with the General Overseer. According to the statement, the two women identified as Calista Omeje and Assumpta Odo, confirmed that they left their husbands to live with the
General Overseer on the prophetic injunction to do the will of God.
The statement noted that Calista revealed that she had 10 children for her husband but was later impregnated by the General Overseer (Timothy)while the baby died later. Calista also said that she gave out her daughter to the General Overseer to be impregnated, an act she described as “the fulfillment of the will of God.”

Amarizu noted in the statement that the Pastor said he had five wives with 13 children apart from other concubines who he had, courtesy of the prophetic direction to do the will of God. “Timothy Ngwu said that Veronica used to be his wife but described her as a falling wife.”

He also said, “I do not do anything with any married woman until the full consent and agreement were sought and reached between the husband in line with the directives of the Holy Spirit to do the will of God, which is an act of spirituality.”

Inside the Ministry
When Crime Alert traced the Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity, it was discovered to be located right inside the compound of the father of the General Overseer without any sign post, while about 15 women and four men were seen taking lessons from an elderly woman who acts as an instructor in the vineyard. The entrance to the ministry was barricaded with a heavy iron gate which restricts non- members from gaining entry. Our reporter who refused to turn back when he was told by one man who identified himself as Hillary, that the General Overseer traveled out of town after a heated argument on the mission of the reporter to the ministry, peeped through an opening at the gate when Hillary left to invite others to compel him to leave the premises. A large number of children and adult women were seen scattered inside the compound barricaded with the iron gate.

A neighbor reacts
Neighbors, however, intimated Crime Alert that everything in the ministry were shrouded in secrecy as children born there were allegedly confined within the ministry and denied communication with any other person outside, neither do the children have access to receive formal education, except the doctrine of the ministry.

…Brother too
A brother to the self-acclaimed General Overseer who pleaded anonymity told Crime Alert that he was not surprised that police invaded the ministry, explaining that all warnings by members of Ngwu family to compel Timothy to desist from the act fell on deaf ears. “Let me tell you, God’s anger has befallen my brother, we have
severally appealed to him to stop what he was doing but he refused. He has colonized our compound, bearing children with recklessness. He accused us of being jealous of him because he is doing the will of God,” he stated.

Lamentations
Nodding his head in disgust he continued, “look at these buildings here, he has converted all of them to himself in the name of vineyard. I can’t say exactly what informed his spirit to the devilish act in the name of God. He sacked his betrothed wife who has three children for him and embarked on impregnating married women and young girls. Look at the whole compound littered with children of
different sex and age.
“How can an educated man of his status reason like an unrefined man? All members of the vineyard are fools, how can a woman abandon her husband for another man in the name of worshiping God and practice adultery? I cannot get myself involved in this matter; Vero has opened the vessel of worms in the vineyard. Let them sort themselves out with the police but I want the ministry to be shut down completely,” he explained.

Excommunication
Investigations also revealed that the General Overseer was chased out of the St. John’s Catholic church, Ihe/Owerre Nsukka as an assistant catechist when Bishop Emeritus of Nsukka Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Okobo, discovered that he was teaching heresy, called him to order but he wouldn’t listen and was excommunicated by the Catholic church, which led to the establishment of the Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity where all manner of sexual styles were practiced by the General Overseer of the ministry.

New information has come to light on the controversial kidnapping of a seven-year-old boy by his parents’ neighbour and mother of four, Mrs. Rosemary Chukwu, in Majidun area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The suspect claimed in her statement given to the police after her arrest, that Pastor Ernest Nwankwo of the Holy Family Happy Family Ministry (aka House of Mercy) offered to pay her N2.5m if he could deliver the child, our correspondent learnt from a police source.
According to Chukwu’s statement, the pastor had appeared to her many times in her dream and had even made love to her in dreams before she decided to do his bidding.

Saturday PUNCH had last week reported how the woman, whom residents of their Omo Ologede neighbourhood described as a firebrand “prayer warrior” kidnapped seven-year-old Emmanuel Emeka, son of her co-tenant, while the boy went to fetch water from a well located within their compound early in the morning.
Chukwu, who was said to have been a choir mistress at House of Mercy, had alleged at the time that the popular pastor sent her to kidnap the child, whom she gagged and stuffed in a large luggage.
Nwankwo, who is from Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, was arrested on Monday at Ebute Metta, Lagos, after the police had been on his trail for many days.

Chukwu, who was nearly lynched by residents of the area before police intervention last week Wednesday, has now told the police that the genesis of the kidnapping plan was when she approached the pastor for a loan.
Our source said, “The woman said that when she told the pastor that she needed some money, the pastor told her that he could only lend her the money if she could bring a child in return.
“She told us that the pastor promised to give her N2.5m in return if she could get a child by any means and deliver the child.”
However, Saturday PUNCH learnt that the pastor who is being detained at the Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti, Lagos, has denied Chukwu’s allegations.

Our correspondent noticed that Nwankwo’s church has shut down its website.
When our correspondent visited the church premises at Majidun on Wednesday, it was locked up. Residents of the area said nobody had visited the church since the police who had initially barricaded the place against looters left.
Our correspondent who spoke with Kelvin Emeka, the kidnapped child’s father on Friday, learnt of the emotional struggle the young boy has been combating since he was saved from his kidnapper.
Emeka described Chukwu as a reserved praying woman, who kept mostly to herself.
He said, “We only know each other as co-tenants and within the two years that we lived in the same compound, nobody saw or knew her husband.

“When we were at the police station, she was asked of the phone number of her husband, she did not know it. She was also asked to provide the address of his workplace, she could not provide that as well.
“All I can say is that God loves my family. That was why she did not succeed in taking my child away to the ritual killers who sent her.
“Emmanuel still feels pain on his neck where the woman tried to strangle him before she put him in the luggage but the hospital did a great job on him. He is still undergoing treatment but he has been discharged.”
He said the boy has been having panic attacks since he was discharged from hospital.
“Nobody can touch him anymore, not even my siblings. The only people whom he allows to touch him now are his mother and I. He sees every other person suspiciously and gets scared when they want to touch him. But I know he would be okay. God has delivered him,” Emeka said.
Emeka said the day Chukwu was caught by residents of their neighbourhood, a green sports utility vehicle picked up the suspect’s four children and they have not been seen since then.

But the man is concerned for the safety of his family.
“I don’t know what the members of that pastor’s church are planning. I don’t know the kind of arrangement he (Nwankwo) must have made before he was arrested. The police should ensure nobody harms my family because it is no longer my family that has a case with him. It is a criminal case being prosecuted by the police, not me,” he said.
Our correspondent also learnt that some other members of Nwankwo’s church were apprehended after Chukwu’s arrest but it is not clear what the level of their culpability is.

This case again brings to the fore the rising cases of child theft in the country, which Saturday PUNCH reported in June.
Police spokesperson in the state, Ngozi Braide, said investigation was still ongoing on in the case.
“We are doing all we can to follow every lead. Every truth would come to light on this issue. But we cannot reveal too much information that could jeopardise our investigation at this moment,” she said

An Enugu High Court presided over by Justice Pearl Enejere on Wednesday sentenced one Emmanuel Nkemakolam to three years imprisonment for defiling a four-year old girl.

Enejere sentenced the accused after he admitted guilt to the charge and pleaded for leniency.

The state prosecutor, Mrs Ngozi Avah, told the court that the matter was reported to the police on July 29, 2012.

According to her, Nkemakolam, a resident of No. 7, Chief Nwotokwo Street, Emene, lured the little girl to his room on July 29 and defiled her.

“The little girl began crying and told her mother that her private part was paining her. She later pointed at the accused person for wounding her.

“The incident led to threats by his neighbours who later handed him over to the police after he accepted responsibility,” she said.

“During police investigation, it was discovered that Nkemakolam had defiled six little girls within the area which the accused did not denied.

“It was the recent one which happened on July 29 that brought him before the court,” Avah said.

The counsel to the accused, Mr Charles Umahi, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy as he showed remorse for his actions.

The accused, however, told the court that he had engaged in the act for years now but had repented.

“I have regretted my action. My reason for confessing to the act is for the court to forgive me. From today onward, I promise to turn a new leaf,” he said.

The court sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment and recommended that he should be rehabilitated in a psychiatric hospital. (NAN)

A ritualists’ den was, yesterday, uncovered at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu Lagos, with at least eight victims, said to have been kidnapped from different parts of the country, rescued.

One of the victims, a 52-year‑old man, who identified himself simply as Onwurah, alleged that his wife had a hand in his kidnap, saying he had spent two years in the enclave.The den was uncovered following a foiled attempt by a mother of four to take one of her victims, a seven year‑old boy, to the den.Vanguard gathered that the woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, who resides at 33, Omologede Street, behind C&S Primary School, allegedly abducted the seven-year‑old primary school pupil, Emmanuel Emeka, on his way to fetch water from a public well at about 6.30 a.m.Chukwu was alleged to have kept the boy inside her toilet and engaged her four children in a prayer session, apparently to prevent her co‑tenants from hearing the abducted boy’s cry for help.

How Emeka was rescuedMeanwhile, back in the abducted boy’s home, located four buildings from his captors, his mother became apprehensive over his unusual delay. She was said to have raised alarm which caused residents to conduct a search round the neighborhood for Emeka.Eye witnesses told Vanguard that Chukwu even went out and suggested areas where the search party could search for the missing boy. She was said to have been sighted with a suitcase on her head, accompanied by her children.An eye witness, who gave his name as Oyetoye Gbemi, said: “She told us she was travelling to the village. But one of the area boys who was among the search party, ordered his colleagues to search the box.“Immediately she heard that, she flung the box away and took to her heels. We all suspected something was amiss. When the box was opened, Emmanuel was found inside, half dead.“The area boys descended on her and stripped her naked. On interrogation, she said her pastor, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy, asked her to bring the boy.“The area boys followed her to 319, Lagos Road, Ikorodu, where the church is situated, where they saw her pastor waiting for her. But on sighting the crowd, he took to his heels.“But for the arrival of Policemen from Owutu division, the woman would have been lynched. The angry mob also attempted to set the church ablaze but were also prevented by the policemen.

It was gathered that some miscreants uncovered the building while they were chasing the fleeing pastor.The mob was said to have forced some apartments in the building open, where they found an undisclosed number of persons in chains.The victims were said to have recounted how they were kidnapped from Anambra, Bayelsa, Ogun and Oyo states at different times. One of them, according to eye witnesses, who pleaded anonymity, said she was kidnapped 11 years ago.According to an eyewitness, “the woman said she is about 50 years old and that she was kidnapped along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway while returning from a vigil.“The rest were males and were wearing briefs. They looked haggard and tired. The area boys set them free when they opened the apartments. I believe some of them should be with the police.“There were also ‘Ghana must go’ bags of currencies . A 52 year‑old man seen in chains told Vanguard that he was kidnapped two years ago from Anambra State. He said he used to be a commercial bus driver before he was abducted and brought to Lagos.“The man said he could not join others to escape because the key to his chain could not be found. When he was asked if Pastor Ernest was responsible for his abduction, he charged at him, saying: “Do not call him a pastor. He is not. He is a killer and a ritualist.”A community leader in the area who identified himself as Alfa Olajide Odeji, told Vanguard that the building on Oshodi Street was always under lock and key. He said there were unusual movements there at night. His claim was collaborated by another community leader who gave his name as Elder Sikiru Odebowale.Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide failed. However, Police sources confirmed that the female suspect was in Police custody and that the seven-year‑old boy had been taken to a hospital. His condition could, however, not be ascertained.
