From its bloody origins to its sweet, chocolaty modern day traditions, these are 25 interesting facts you didn’t know about Valentine’s Day. - 25 The most popular theory about Valentine's Day origin is that Emperor Claudius II didn't want Roman men to marry during wartime. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret weddings. For this, Valentine was jailed and executed. While in jail he wrote a note to the jailor's daugter signing it "from your Valentine". - 24 In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine’s Day card. - 23 Based on retail statistics, about 3 per cent of pet owners will give Valentine’s Day gifts to their pets. - 22 About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the second largest seasonal card sending time of the year - 21 If you’re single don’t despair. You can celebrate Singles Awareness Day (SAD) instead. - 20 Meant as an alternative to Valentine’s Day, the holiday is for single people to celebrate or to commiserate in their single status. - 19 Or you could pop over to Finland where Valentine’s Day is called Ystävänpäivä, which translates into “Friend’s day”. It's more about remembering your buddies than your loved ones. - 18 Many believe the X symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an X. The X was then kissed to show their sincerity. - 17 Girls of medieval times ate bizarre foods on St. Valentine's Day to make them dream of their future spouse. - 16 In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression "to wear your heart on your sleeve." - 15 In 1537, England's King Henry VII officially declared Feb. 14 the holiday of St. Valentine's Day. - 14 Physicians of the 1800s commonly advised their patients to eat chocolate to calm their pining for lost love. - 13 Richard Cadbury produced the first box of chocolates for Valentine's Day in the late 1800s. - 12 More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold for Valentine's Day. - 11 73 percent of people who buy flowers for Valentine's Day are men, while only 27 percent are women. - 10 15 percent of U.S. women send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day. - 9 Over $1 billion worth of chocolate is purchased for Valentine's Day in the U.S. - 8 Over 50 percent of all Valentine's Day cards are purchased in the six days prior to the holiday, making Valentine's Day a procrastinator's delight. - 7 The red rose was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. - 6 Red roses are considered the flower of love because the color red stands for strong romantic feelings. - 5 189 million stems of roses are sold in the U.S. on Valentine's Day. - 4 Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines day gifts 3 Teachers will receive the most Valentine's Day cards, followed by children, mothers, wives, sweethearts and pets. - 2 220,000 is the average number of wedding proposals on Valentine's Day each year. - 1 Every Valentine's Day, the Italian city of Verona, where Shakespeare's lovers Romeo and Juliet lived, receives about 1,000 letters addressed to Juliet.

Zimbabwe's 90-year-old President Robert Mugabe fell down a staircase on Wednesday as he walked off a podium after addressing supporters at Harare international airport, an AFP correspondent said. He had just returned from Ethiopia where he took over the rotating chairmanship of the African Union. Africa's oldest leader, who turns 91 later this month, had concluded his homecoming speech when he tumbled to his knees on a short flight of stairs in an incident witnessed by journalists and hundreds of supporters. He was quickly helped up by aides and walked to a waiting car. Mugabe took over the post of African Union chairman on Friday, replacing Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. In his speech, Mugabe said he felt honoured that Zimbabwe was elected chair of the AU, pledging to use his position to push for development in the continent. "The AU must be the engine of development in Africa. We should be the engine of development in Africa," Mugabe said. "We want real progress to be achieved to develop all our countries." He said "no African country" opposed Zimbabwe's elevation to lead the organisation. The former liberation war hero is Africa's third- longest serving leader. He was met at the airport by a group of cheering supporters who raised placards with messages of support. "Your greatness resonates across Africa and beyond" read one card. The leader also used the opportunity to lambast Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta for appearing before the International Criminal Court (ICC), when the AU had advised him against it. "I told him that you will make your father's soul feel ashamed. We don't want to hear that again." Kenyatta, the son of Kenya's founding president Jomo Kenyatta, was accused of crimes against humanity for his alleged role in the violence that followed the country's disputed presidential election seven years ago. The charges against him were later withdrawn www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-2939634/Zimbabwes-90-year-old-Mugabe-falls-stairs.html |
Microsoft already shown the first look of Windows 10 operating system on Tuesday at San Francisco. Microsoft promised an OS that will be more intuitive for the millions of workers still on Windows 7 and older OSes. It will span all hardware from PCs to phones and try to address the ills that have dogged Windows 8. Here are 10 things you need to know about Windows 10: - 1. Why Windows 10? - The natural name would have been Windows 9, but Microsoft is eager to suggest a break with the past. “We’re not building an incremental product,” said Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group. Microsoft considered the name “Windows One,” he said, to match products like OneNote and OneDrive and its “One Microsoft” business strategy. But he noted the name was snagged a long time ago, by a young Bill Gates. Perhaps Microsoft didn’t like the idea of being numerically one step behind Apple’s OS X. Whatever the reason, Windows 10 it will be. “ “When you see the product in its fullness, I think you’ll agree it’s an appropriate name for the breadth of the product family that’s coming,” Myerson said. - 2. What devices will it run on? - All of them. Microsoft demonstrated only the desktop version Tuesday, but Windows 10 will be for tablets, smartphones and embedded products, too. - 3. Is there a start menu? - There is, and it tries to combine the familiarity of Windows 7 with the modern interface of Windows 8. That means the menu is split: On the left, apps are displayed in the familiar Windows 7 style, while on the right are more colorful “live tiles” that open the modern, Windows 8-style apps. The start menu is customizable, so you can resize the tiles and move them around, and make the start menu tall and thin or long and flat. - 4. Is there a Command Prompt? - You’re kidding, right? Well, actually there is. Microsoft showed how it now supports shortcuts like CTRL+C and CTRL+V so you can paste in a directory listing from another app, for instance. Belfiore called it a “niche, geeky feature” but said he wanted to show the diverse range of users the OS is trying to support. - 5. What car does it resemble? - Microsoft came up with a car analogy. It wants you to think of Windows 10 as a Tesla. "Yesterday, they were driving a first-gen Prius, and when they got Windows 10 they didn’t have to learn to drive something new, but it was as if we got them a Tesla,” Myerson said. “It will run on the broadest types of devices ever, from the smallest ‘Internet of things’ device to enterprise data centers worldwide,” Myerson said. “Some of these devices have 4-inch screens, and some will have 80-inch screens. And some don’t have any screen at all.” - 6. Will I still toggle between two distinct app environments? - Apparently not. In Windows 8, when you launch a modern-style app, it takes you into that modern UI, and when you launch a Win32-style app, it launches to the traditional desktop environment. In Windows 10, “we don’t want that duality,” said Joe Belfiore, a corporate vice president with the OS group. “We want users on PCs with mice and keyboards to have their familiar desktop UI—a task bar and a start menu. And regardless of how an app was written or distributed to your machine, it works the way you expect.” - 7. So how does it look now? - If you launched one of the new-style apps in Windows 8, it filled the whole screen and there weren’t many options to resize it. With Windows 10, the familiar “windows” metaphor is back; you’ll be able to resize the new-style apps and drag them around the screen like an old Win32 app. Conversely, if you’re using an older Win32-style app, it will be able to “snap into place” and fill all the available screen space just like the modern apps. - 8. What else is new? - Some users have been confused by the Windows 8 interface and can’t figure out what’s open on their screen or how to get back to an app. Windows 10 has a feature like OS X’s Mission Control that lets you zoom out and see everything that’s open on a PC, then select any app to enter it. You can also have multiple desktop configurations open and switch between them. So if you have two apps on the screen for a particular task, sized just how you want them, and then you change to some other apps, you’ll be able to get back to those first apps easily without having to resize them again. You can navigate through several of these desktop displays at the bottom of the screen. - 9. Will it still be touch-enabled? - Yes. “We’re not giving up on touch,” Belfiore said. That means you’ll still be able to use touch to do things like scroll and pinch-to-zoom on laptops and desktops. There’s also a new feature, tentatively called “continuum,” for people using two-in-one PCs. When you detach the keyboard from a Windows 10 hybrid, it will ask if you want to go into tablet mode. If you say yes, the UI changes to better match a tablet. The app expands to full screen, for instance, and the start menu switches into a larger-icon mode. - 10. When will it be released and How will it be priced? - The OS will launch around the middle of next year, after Microsoft’s Build conference. Before that, a select group of “Windows insiders” will receive a “technical preview build” for laptops and desktops on Wednesday this week, followed “soon after” by a preview for servers. Previews of other device categories will follow later.

It was possible when the Koreans made headway driven by improvements in the quality of screens. The clarity of the screens made the pictures more visible and thus watchable on the small mobile screens. Possibly the emblematic resolution that puts the mobile phone camera at the same level with digital camera was the 10 MP. -------------- In 2006 Ben Q Siemens S88 the First ever mobile phone with an OLED Display -------_--_-- Abbreviated as AMOLED was a very important stepping stone in mobile phone display because it gave the user the ease of watching and viewing both video and still images on mobile phones. Apart from that it also used less battery power. Later on Samsung through the Samsung S8500 introduce the first phones to use screens with super AMOLED display, it had 0.001mm of layer for touch sensor and which by coincidence enriched the display. After apple’s release the Android operating system moved rapidly from incubation to the market. In June 2008 T-Mobile declared the G1 and which was followed by the installation of the android 1.0 on mobile phones. - In 2010 Symbian - Symbian OS was officially unveiled in 2010 as the replacement of UIQ and OS6 that were first used for Nokia handsets. A year later in 2011 a replacement was created for the Symbian OS the Symbian Anna was introduced followed closely by Nokia Belle in August the same year. - In 2010 the first mobile phone with an in built projector was introduced, the Samsung Beam I8520 - The projector has been built on a high end smartphone and gives off WVGA image quality. In case you are wondering what WVGA is, this is a wider screen version with a higher resolution. It does not produce the best quality video or pictures but truth be told is really innovative. That being said they is still more room for improvement perhaps in the near future Samsung or some other firm will come up will a upgraded type. - In 2012 41MP camera to advance camera phone th Nokia 808 Pure view - Nokia has really done it this time round, with the introduction of the Nokia 808. The 808 is definitely Nokia’s effort to distinguish itself in an otherwise full smartphone market. The reviews about this mobile phone were crazy. - The World’s first mobile with built in radiation monitor the Sharp Pantone 5 107SH - Can you recall the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant tragedy? Radiation was released into the atmosphere and the citizen became very frustrated by the government since it could not provide accurate information about the hazard that existed. Then the need for a device that would measure radiation arose this in turn gave birth to the sharp pantone smart phone that could actually measure radiation. The smartphone can display the measurements at the touch of a button. - In 2014 the Amazon Fire Taking Image Recognition Software to its next level - The Amazon Fire is filled with many innovations but only one that stands out from the rest, the use of image recognition technology. But what is a leap forward is integrating an excellence camera, one touch button, picture recognition processing done back in the Cloud with a data base of 33 million books, videos, music tracks and magazines for sale.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Lagos State expressed their fears of the redeployment of the controversial police officer Joseph Mbu to Zone 2 in the state. The Police High Command Tuesday announced the removal of Umar Manko who was redeployed to National Institute Of Strategic Studies ((NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State while Mbu who once called himself ‘controversial man’ took over from him. Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who announced the deployment that affected 28 AIGs, said the postings were part of the on-going re-organisation in the Force. Spokesman for APC in Lagos, Mr. Joe Igbokwe at a press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja criticized the Federal government for redeploying Mbu to Lagos. Igbokwe in his comment expressed the hope that Mr. Mbu was not redeployed to for organizing the political hatchet of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming polls. In his words, “Mbu must understand clearly that this is Lagos. Since Lagos was created in 1967, it has been in the hands of progressives. This is a special state where the best minds live. This is the city of civil societies and the media. We know his antecedents and if he brings all those his unbecoming behavior to Lagos, we will retire him from the Police.” “Mbu is known for some kind of jobs so, it is not in doubt that those who sent him to Lagos brought him for a mission, we are watching, so before they make any move, we know where they are going. We boldly welcome Mbu to Lagos but he should tread carefully.” “We know he is not coming to do normal police routine duties, but we will advise him to drop all those excess baggage he exhibited in Port Harcourt. He was rejected in Rivers, so if he comes here to abuse a sitting governor, we will not take it from him. Governor Fashola is the Chief Security Officer of the state and if he abuses him, we will run him down. We will tell him that this is the city of both the electronic and the print media.” |
Complicated relationships = a complicated life, and most people would take simplicity over complexity any day. If you have wondered how to simplify your relationships, look no further than these tips to help you out! 33 Ways to uncomplicate Your Relationships stay true to yourself. Be honest with who you are and what kind of life you want to live. By living with integrity, it allows the right people to come into your life, and helps you become your best self. 1. Share your flaws with your significant other: Your flaws don’t define you, but others will feel more comfortable with them once you begin to accept them yourself. 2. Simplify yourself: Align your thoughts, actions, and words, and your life will automatically become simpler. Be you, all the way through. 3. Don’t seek approval from anyone but you. Be confident in your ability to discern bad choices from good ones, and remember that only you can determine the right path for your life. 4.Practice self-love, self-care, and self-respect. Before anyone else can care for you, love you, and respect you, you must give all of these things to yourself. 5. Observe yourself without judgement. Next time you feel inferior, try to look at the situation from a neutral point of view. Don’t be so hard on yourself – everyone is human, and everyone makes mistakes. 6. Feel comfortable with your partner having friends of the opposite sex. Even if it might make you slightly jealous for them to hang out with other guys or girls, let them have freedom to hang out with who they want. Time apart makes for fonder hearts, too. Give up your need to have the last word. You can’t always be right, so don’t try. Sometimes, silence really does speak louder than words. 7. Show unabashed love. Love freely, and open your heart to others. Let small acts of kindness or affection show your partner how much he or she means to you. 8. Always follow your heart. No one knows you better than you do, so honor your soul and what it wants for you. It will always have your best interest in mind. 9. Be independent, but not too independent. Take help when it’s offered; you don’t have to do everything alone. 10. Accept others for who they are. Don’t try to mold others into what you think they should be; instead, love them exactly the way they are. 11. Have open communication with your partner. Talk about problems, fears, insecurities, dreams, doubts, funny memories, and everything in between. Your partner should be your best friend who you can come to with anything, so don’t hide your feelings or thoughts from them. 12. Don’t blow problems out of proportion. Talk about things rationally with your partner, and the problem will likely get solved a lot quicker. 13. Practice minimalism. Only keep things that you absolutely need; a simple life gives way to simpler relationships. 14. Explore spirituality personally and with your partner. While a spiritual journey is a personal one, invite your partner to meditate or go to Reiki sessions with you. This will strengthen your relationship and open up a whole new door of exploration for you two. 15. Love without expectations. Love is not a competition; it moves freely through each of us, and we can make this world a much more beautiful place by offering our love regardless of what it can give to us. 16. Appreciate other people. Tell them and show them that you notice their positive attributes, and that you value who they are as a person. 17. Be proud of yourself. Take pride in your accomplishments and your character; you’ve come a long way in life and deserve your own attention and recognition for it. 18. Listen more, talk less. Be a listening ear for others; you might be the only person in their life that listens to them. 19. Practice gratitude. Remain thankful, through the good and the bad. There’s always a lesson within every experience in life. 20. Try not to complain. Complaining only lowers your energy levels; try to see the silver lining in the clouds, and take it as an important lesson learned. 21. Talk calmly and honestly. Don’t let your emotions get the best of you – always try to speak from a place of love and understanding. 22. Compliment your partner. Show him or her that you notice that new outfit or haircut, or that you’re proud of their hard work. 23. Be mindful of your actions. What you do usually affects more people than just yourself, so keep that in mind when you make big decisions in your life. 24. Remind yourself that you’re beautiful, inside and out. Give yourself love, always. Don’t be so critical of yourself; love who you are, where you are, exactly HOW you are. 25. Let go of past pain. It helped shape your character, but it doesn’t have to stick with you your whole life. 26. Let your guard down. Bring down your walls so others can get inside. 27. Support each other’s goals. Encourage one another to go beyond yourselves and reach for your wildest dreams. 28. Be there for one another, always. Help each other out when you need it, and offer support when necessary. 29. Let your partner grow in whatever way they need to. Even if it means you have to grow apart for a while, let them walk their journey however they see fit. 30. Try new things together. Getting out of your comfort zone will actually make your life simpler, because it will help you get rid of any fears you may have about the world. 31. Let aside time each day for relaxation. Drop out of the fast pace of the world for a while, and just take pleasure in some good old-fashioned R&R. 32. Live in the now. Now is the only time we really have; live fully in the present. 33. Have simple dates, like picnics. Enjoy nature and simpler foods. Relish in the outdoors and the freedom it can bring from time to time. |
Am introvert |
Introversion and extroversion are two different personality types. Based off of the theories of Carl Jung, the two personality preferences are based on where you focus your attention and direct your energy . The two personality types are classified as preferences because nearly everyone spends at least some time in their secondary “mode.” A small minority of people spend a roughly equal amount of time introverting and extroverting; these interesting folks are known as “ambiverts.” However, the personality of most people can be classified into one of the two main types. The differences in personality types result from how our brains are wired and the variances in brain chemistry. Our environment can also influence how much we alter between types. The brains of introverts and extroverts are activated (aroused) under different circumstances. Extroverts require more stimulation from the outside world, which is where these individuals gain their energy. Introverts are stimulated internally and quickly deplete their energy with too much social interaction. Here is the basic breakdown of Extroversion from the Myers & Briggs Foundation, administrators of the infamous Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI) test. According to Myers & Briggs, extroverts: - Get their energy from active involvement in events and various activities. - Are excited and are energized around other people. - Prefer to take action first and think later. - Are often seen as “outgoing” or as a “people person.” - Have a wide range of friends and know many people. - Are often seen as great motivators who inspire those they are around. - Often dive into a project, hoping to figure out the details as they go along. Terms that are often used when describing extroverts include: Sociable; warm; friendly; happy; enthusiastic; inclusive; aggressive; forthright; impulsive; thrill- seeker; interactive; engaging; open; charismatic; networker; attention-seeker; energetic; risk-taker In general, extroversion is viewed more positively in Western society than elsewhere. The reason for this is that extroverts outnumber introverts by about 3 to 1 in the United States and a few European countries. This number drops significantly as you move eastward from the U.S. on a map. Extroverts also have higher levels of subjective happiness than introverts do; often displaying more positive, outward emotions. This group is well known for making people feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for. Because of this disposition, extroverts make excellent managers, coaches, leaders, politicians, counselors and teachers. Famous extroverts include: – Bill Clinton, 42 nd President of the United States – Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female Prime Minister – Michael Jordan, Basketball great and Hall of Fame inductee – Boris Yeltsin, Russian president from 1990 to 2000 – Muhammad Ali, former professional boxer and 3- time heavyweight champion – Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister and Nobel Prize winner – George W. Bush, 43 rd President of the United States – Oscar Wilde, famous Playwright – Martin Luther King Jr., Civil rights activist – Oprah Winfrey, famous talk show host and philanthropist According the Myers & Briggs Foundation introverts: - Get their energy from ideas, pictures, memories and other thoughts - Energy is quickly depleted by socializing too much. - Prefer to take reflect first and take action later. - Are often seen as “reflective” or “reserved.” - Have a smaller circle of friends, but have deeper relationships. - Often spend too much time reflecting; sometimes regretting not “taking action” sooner. - Often lay out a project in detail before diving in. Terms that are often used when describing introverts include: Reflective; reserved; quiet; aloof; shy; creative; thoughtful; risk-averse; individualistic; lone-wolf; idea-producer; introspective; deep; listener; methodical; solitude-seeker; planner; conflict- averse Introverts are the minority in Western society (especially in the United States) and as a result often feel out of place. In other parts of the world, especially in Asia, introverts constitute the majority. Other countries with a significant introverted population include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Switzerland. Due to the common misconceptions of introverts, they are not generally seen as a “happy” group. However, introverts are “happy” – just under different circumstances. Too much social interaction drains introverts of their relatively limited energy supply, while solitude and quiet environments recharge them – the exact opposite of their extroverted counterparts. Because of their ability to work independently, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to concentrate for long durations of time, introverts often make great scientists, writers, engineers, architects, librarians and analysts. Famous introverts include: – Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States – Albert Einstein, renowned theoretical physicist; developed theory of relativity – Barack Obama, 44th and current President of the United States – Mahatma Gandhi, leader of Indian independence movement – Charles Darwin, founder of the theory of evolution – Rosa Parks, African-American Civil Rights activist – Warren Buffett, business magnate, investor and philanthropist – Joe DiMaggio, former Yankee and Hall of Fame baseball player – Edgar Allen Poe, famous author and poet – Vladimir Putin, current President of Russia As clearly seen, introverts and extroverts have very diverse personalities. There is no “right” or “wrong” personality type – just different. Your brain and environment both shape the tendency to lean towards one end of the spectrum, with the strongest influence being the chemical makeup of your brain. Researchers have concluded that there is no significant difference in intelligence or ability. Despite the misconceptions that each type may or may not have about the other, both types of have important roles to play in society, at home, and in the workplace. |

The Campaign train of the former Nigerian Military dictator, Pa Buhari was visibly shocked in Delta state as only 986 people attended Buhari's rally in Warri. The empty stadium was associated to non-existence of the opposition party, APC presence in Delta state. Some of the people that attended the rally complained that the people that attended the Buhari rally in Rivers state were paid between N5,000 to N10,000 and the APC leaders want to "use" their head. Nigerian have 2 choices, Moving # Forward or Going # Backward to 1970 and 1980s. - Hope For Nigeria.
