Women must struggle for political power says Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has advised women to struggle for power, rather than expect that men will bequeath power to them on a platter of gold.

This is as Former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan declared that Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has worked hard to empower Rivers women.

Also, Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike described  her husband  as a women-friendly governor who is implementing  policies and programmes to uplift  women.

They spoke at the Women’s Day of the Rivers Golden Jubilee Celebration in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Governor Wike said that nobody is stopping women from excelling  in the political arena, pointing  out  that women must work  for their political  emancipation.

He said: "When it comes to power, you have to struggle for  it. If you  are prepared for politics, you must equipment yourself ".

The governor urged women  not to beg for positions. He said they should set up structures that would help them get political  mileage.

He, however, assured Rivers women that he will  continue to work for their development  and growth in all spheres  of life.

The governor  announced that his administration  will  construct  a women development  centre with all facilities to empower Women.

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan said Rivers women will remain grateful  to Governor Wike  for giving them political and professional leverage.

She said that the governor’s  choice of female deputy governor  and the appointment of the first female Chief Judge and President of Customary Court of Appeal ensured that Rivers women took their pride of place in politics.

Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike said the Women’s Day  is set aside to honour women for their contributions  to  the  creation and growth of the state.

While saying that efforts to empower Women must be strengthened, Justice Nyesom-Wike noted that women have attained  positions of responsibility, not envisaged  before.

In her guest lecture, Wife of Former President of Nigeria, Professor Uche Nnamdi Azikiwe said violence can only be reduced across the world when women assume  leadership.

In her paper titled: "Status of Women and politics in Nigeria ",,Prof  Azikiwe said the political  marginalisation  being suffered by women  are man-made.

She urged women to unite  and play significant  roles in their respective communities. She called for urgent steps  to address the dwindling fortunes of women in Nigerian politics.

Chairman of the Rivers Golden Jubilee Committee, Chief Ferdinand Alabrabra lauded Rivers women for their roles in the development of the state.

The Women’s Day of the Rivers Golden Jubilee Celebration witnessed Special Songs by New Rivers Vision Women Team, cuisine, art and craft competition, traditional dances and traditional fashion parade.

Highpoint  of the event was the special recognition and presentation of gifts to Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Wife of the Former President, Professor Uche Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ms Ankio Briggs, Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Mrs Hannah Aguma and other women by the Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike.

According to Aishat Alubankudi who shared the photos,a doctor in the northern part of Nigerian, declared an unborn baby dead, amputated his arm, only for him to be brought out alive.Below is what she wrote...

'He took his brother's wife to the hospital and the Dr sought and obtained his consent to amputate the child's hand and removed the baby since according to the Dr the baby had since  died in the womb. On the medical advice that, that way the mother's life could be saved, the baby's hand was amputated and the baby was removed but only to realised that the baby was not only alive but heart and healthy.

This must be investigated, it doesnt add up'.

Stomach Infrastructure: Fayose fulfills N10m promise to Beer Sellers

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose on Thursday made good his promise to make N10m available for Beer, Foods and Drinks Sellers Association of Nigeria, Ekiti State Chapter.

Fayose had on 31st January, 2017 during the Association's Exco Inauguration in Ado-Ekiti promised to improve members' business with #10m revolving loan that will benefit members across the 16LGAs.

While presenting cheques to the over 500 beneficiaries who came from across the 16 Local Government Areas at the Government House in Ado on Thursday, Governor Fayose said the gesture was in fulfilment of his promise to them during their inauguration.

The governor explained that the initiative was also in line with the  stomach infrastructure programme aimed at supporting their business. Mr Fayose urged  beneficiaries to refund the loan as and when due so others can benefit.  He urged those without voters card to take advantage of the registration which will commence on 27th of April, 2017  by INEC.

In an interview with  some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ajanaku Oluwatoyin and Adebowale Adeyemi who described governor Fayose as a promise keeper thanked him for the gesture.

Exhibits, (i) One cut to size double barrel gun, (ii) Four life cartridges and two expended ammunition. Suspect was arrested on 16/4/2017 at BEGHE GUEST IN OKIGWE following a tip-off. He was among the dreaded armed robbery suspects terrorizing Okigwe and its environs. Also involved in the robbery and murder of one Enyioha Okwudiri, a staff of Eko Bank, Okigwe and Inspr Vincent Umeh of Zone 9 Police Hgts, Umuahia as well as other armed robbery attacks within Okigwe environs. During the cordon and arrest operation at the GUEST IN, Chimaobi Okorie engaged operatives in a shoot out and attempted to escape through the fence of the hotel but was demobilized by operatives. He was taken to the hospitality for treatment where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor.

My attention has been drawn to the news making the rounds that I own the building on No.16 Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. I want to state clearly that I built the said property and sold to prospective buyers of individual flats.

I have been a property developer since 1983 and I have developed and sold several properties all over the world, the property in queation happens to be one of them. I acquired the land and jointly develop it using a bank loan, I obtained about nine (9) years ago.
However all the flats have been sold to prospective buyers inorder to pay back the loan. I do not own or occupy any of the apartments. I sold all the apartments through established estate agents as such I have no knowledge or interest in who purchases or rents any of the flats.

I commend the efforts of the official of the EFCC and the government's drive at fighting corruption and also the media in informing the public on illicit and corrupt proceeds. My response is not intended to jeopardise or interfere with the ongoing investigation of the anti graft and security agencies but to clear the misconception that the house in question belongs to me. I strongly believe that the efforts being made will surely unveil the real owner of such flat and the monies recovered.

'If you are in Owerri and you've had reasons to be in court, the high Court on Orlu road, I mean, you definitely would know this crippled young man. He sits by the road side just before the High Court gate proper. His name is Chinedu osuagwu from Oguta in Oguta LGA. I had seen him once on my way to work, coming to take his usual position in such a rigorous pattern of movement. I stood by with tears in my eyes watching this young man crawl with his knees while wearing a bathroom Slippers which should be worn by the feet in his hands.
Today, God provided him with a more comfortable way of movement as a non-governmental organisation known as PEZE Foundation through the founder, the Imo State deputy governor, Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere MFR, a humane Child of God, gave Chinedu a 1 unit Wheelchair to ease and aid his movement wherever he wants to go.
I am privileged to be part of this Christ-like gesture. It was almost like the biblical Peter and the lame at the beautiful gate; "Silver or gold have i not, but such that i have, give I thee, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!(Acts 3: 6)
I have a feeling Chinedu's miracle just begun. Glory to God
