Romance / Re: Bored, Lonely, Starting To Hate Nigerian Men: (part 2) by chire(m): 6:38pm On Jan 29, 2010
-My standards are not ridiculously high as my ex was some 9ja bar man, but dumped him quickly when i saw he was trying to borrow money from me etc

@ poster,
I think your comment above to some extent explains why you are having some ill luck with nigerian men. You set low standards for yourself, A masters degree professional going out with a bar man??!!Of course He'll want to take advantage of you.
What else do you expect?
Perhaps you should think of dating men operating on your level,or at a higher frequency.
I think you should also remove the beleif that nigerian men are all bad. There are some really very good and honest nigerian.
I know of 2 singe doctorate students here in manchester in their early 30's who are single, and are really really genuinely good men all round.I did not hear of them,i am very close with both of them and i can vouch for them.
There are definately some horrible nigerian men,but beleive me,there are also some very very wonderful nigerian men here in UK.
That i know for a fact.
Sports / Re: I Wanted To Quit After Zambia Victory – Amodu by chire(m): 2:44pm On Jan 28, 2010
In as much as i have doubts about his technical / tactical efficiency, i think we should all cut him some slack now and try to support him for the duration of the tournament.
Nigerians can be very hard to please at times.
We asked him to qualify for the world cup.HE DID.Without losing a single game.
We asked him to reach the semi-finals of the nations cup.HE DID.Whether he played the comoros islands or sao tome and principle in the quater finals is irrelevant.
What more do we want of him?
People keep saying he struggled to defeat zambia, but they convieniently forget that zambia topped a group that included cameroun and the same tunisia that almost stopped us from qualifying for the world cup. Weak teams dont top groups that include cameroun and tunisia.
The time to sack Amodu has passed. They should have done it after the 2-2 draw with tunisia in abuja.
Although i agree he needs technical assistance,Amodu deserves to take his team to the world cup.
Let him enjoy the fruit of his labour.
Politics / Re: Scholarship Scandal Rocks Ptdf Again by chire(m): 3:36pm On Jan 20, 2010
I understand how you feel, but I'm not surprised at what you said. What you wrote about ptdf above is something ptdf is very capable of.
I remember in 2006 when i was invited to come for phd interview at abuja.I flew all the way from england for the interview thinking it would be a fair selection process.
I have never been so wrong in my life. The entire interview was a huge joke. Its very irritating just remembering that day. It was not organised and candidates were oppressing one another with "who they know in the senate, in the ministry of education, etc". It was disgusting.
At the end of the "interviews", the name of the "succesful" person chosen from my state was not in the newspaper publication inviting us to attending the interview in the first place.
That was when i was convinced that there is almost no hope for the average nigerian.
Sports / Re: Don't Expect Too Much In Angola- Amodu by chire(m): 7:31pm On Dec 17, 2009
I think we should all cut Amodu some slack for now.
Everybody, including Amodu himself knows that his performance in the nations cup next month will determine if he will go to the world cup as head coach or not.
So we should not let his utterances before the tournament bother us.
All we should be concerned about now is the NFF to give him everything he need for the preparation so he can not give any excuses afterwards.
Lets see how the eagles will perform at the nations cup,if they disappoint us,then we can begin the "off with his head" chant.
Romance / Re: Men Don't Like Tall Women by chire(m): 7:21pm On Dec 07, 2009
@poster

it depends on how tall "tall" is.any not more than 6 ft is very ok. i'm about 6 ft 4 and in the past i've dated 2 ladies who were around 6 ft.i found out that the tall ladies are really much cooler and sweeter than the shorter ones who seem to act overly aggressive (maybe it  is insecurity or something).i understand some guys may have low esteem or be afraid to talk to you.if some guys feel intimidated or scared to talk to you, then tough luck for them.
i think men like tall women.they are just too scared to approach them. would you want to be with timid men who can not perform a simple task of approaching a woman he admires?
some guys make me laugh.i mean, whats the big deal in approaching a  lady (tall or short)and telling her you would like to get to know a bit more about her??.its very easy.if a guy dresses responsibly and behaves maturedly about the whole episode, then everything will be ok.
its a funny world.the short man wishes to be tall so he can get taller ladies, while the tall man is scared of approaching tall ladies.he does what he is missing.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Is There Any Hope For A Third Class Bsc Holder? by chire(m): 3:06pm On Dec 07, 2009
Burgundy:

@ chire: pls wot skull in the uk admits third class graduates? av ben searching 4 one since. i graduated wiv a third class in law frm unilag? also, u have to do a pgd first, rght? pls fil me in, thanx!

I did my masters at the univ of manchester. I don't know much about law cos i'm into science and engineering. But before i made a formal application for my msc,i had contacted the postgraduate admissions officer for my intended programme via email and explained my situation. He replied and told me that he could not offer me a unconditional msc cos of uni policy, but he is willing to offer me pgd, however, the course modules for pgd and msc are the same.the difference was that while for msc,you have to do a 6 month research project, pgd students will do only a 3 month literature project.so if i passed the course modules according to msc standards,i will be allowed to do the full msc research and get msc at the end of the day. then each dept had a postgraduate admissions officer whose job it is to approve or disapprove applications.but this was about 5 yrs ago and i know that changes have been made regarding admissions and everything is now centralised.I don't know about other schools.

In a nutshell, look online for schools that do postgraduate courses in law, for some universities, there may be little or no difference in the taught courses for pgd and msc.The only difference may be in the project part. So they can allow you to switch to msc if you do well in the taught courses. And try to get in touch with their admissions officer before you send a formal application (if they have one.their contact will be on the website.) .I must advise that it will be best if you started now before the 1st class and 2:1 and 2:2 people start applying (which is usually march or april) .These admission officers are human and some are understanding and helpful (like in my case). and esp since uk applications are free, you should be thinking of applying to as many schools as possible.

Best wishes.

spoilt:

Congrats on your achievements. Just curious and you dont have to answer. What do you attribute your third class too? A bad system? Your youth and inability to apply yourself back then?

Thanks.
Looking back then, i would say the system was very bad. The academic environment is such that it does not really bring out the quality in some people.I experienced my share of "lecturer gang up". In my secong year,a lecturer gave me a low grade in one of my courses and he wanted me to give him money to get a higher grade.I refused and reported him the head of department (who was very fatherly). It came to light that i was cheated, and the lecturer was seriously reprimanded. His colleagues got to know of what happened, and for the rest of my stay in unilag,i was a "marked man" in the department.I remember so many of my assignments going "missing" and the lecturers claimed they never saw my coursework even though the class representative would confirm i submitted my assignments to him.

Sports / Re: Jay Jay Okocha For 2010 World Cup by chire(m): 2:59pm On Nov 25, 2009
while i agree that okocha is a very gifted midfielder, the fact remains that he has retired from football for a while now.moreover, his inclusion in the team has the potential to cause divisions.besides,he did not partake in any of the qualifiers.
i think there are skillful nigerian footballers who can fill the gap left by okocha.our coaches seem just too lazy to scout for them.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Is There Any Hope For A Third Class Bsc Holder? by chire(m): 2:47pm On Nov 25, 2009
@ poster
yes there is a lot of hope.
i graduated with a third class degree in 2002 from unilag.
presently i am about to finish a phd programme in one of the very good schools in UK.
on hearing i have a masters and am finishing a phd,no employer has bothered to inquire more about my first degree.on the contrary, they seem to respect me more for going so far academically in an internationally renowned university despite starting out with a third class degree.
dont let anyone discourage you.its not the end of the world.just try to pick up yourself, remedy the situation by getting a postgraduate degree, and play your cards the best way you can.
best wishes.
Romance / Re: I Am Afraid Of Being 30 And Still Unmarried by chire(m): 12:10pm On Nov 23, 2009
@poster

I've got a friend who i can hook you up with.he's nigerian, and rounding up his phd programme in engineering in England.he's quite tall,(over six feet),and he's really nice and single.I think he is 30 or 31 yrs old.
if you are interested in getting to know him, email me at ebmulo@yahoo.com.I will ask him to add you on facebook, and see how things go from there.
Sports / Re: Do U Believe Tb Joshua Now? Yes Or No by chire(m): 11:50am On Nov 15, 2009
i think i would give him the benefit of doubt.
i would say i beleive him,
he predicted that yesterday nigeria would win and tunisia would lose, and it came true.he also accurately predicted our games against tunisia and mozambique in abuja.
there is no reason to doubt him.
Sports / Re: Africa's Best Makes It To World Cup In Africa by chire(m): 11:46am On Nov 15, 2009
yes i agree with you.africa's best have qualified for the world cup.nigeria, ghana, cameroun, ivory coast representing africa
we can not have wished for better teams to represent africa.
i make bold to say that africa at the worst will make it to the semi finals.
In fact,i see an african team in the final matich of 2010 world cup
Sports / Re: Please Drop Your Thank You Note To Mozambique. by chire(m): 11:42am On Nov 15, 2009
Mozambique played the way they played against tunisia because they knew a victory would qualify them for the nations cup.
they were not after doing us a favour, they played their hearts out so they can win and qualify for the nations cup, just like we played our hearts out in order to have the chance of going to the world cup.

Feels good to be a Nigerian Today,
Kudos to Mozambique.

I agree with you brother.
Congrats should also go to mozambique for a job well done.

All we need now is a sound technical advisor to assist with team tactics.Amodu can still be coach. He tried his best.

pes series (its gameplay is an acquired taste)
gta series (gta 3 remains one of the most complete videogame experiences i have ever encountered)
fire pro wrestling series (perhaps the best wrestling franchise.if you love serious minded ,realistic wrestling games, you really owe it to yourself to try fire pro wrestling.)
Gaming / Re: FIFA Vs Pro Evolution Soccer: Which Soccer Franchise Is Better? by chire(m): 3:22pm On Nov 03, 2009
I'm a hard core pes fan.its game play is awesome.I heard rutter and his team did a great job on fifa 10 (i've not played it yet),but i'll stick with my pes for now.
i guess its pes till i die.
Politics / Re: Bode George Rents N1m Chalet At Kirikiri Prisons by chire(m): 2:57pm On Nov 03, 2009
i dont blame the man at all.
the maximun secirity prisons doubles as a hotel, renting out vip suites to prisoners.
the prisoner has the money to rent the suite and he felt since such facility and option is available to him,he might as well spend his prison term in comfort.
blame the system for allowing prisoners to rent vip suites, dont blame the prisoner.

Nigeria's problem is NOT :

(1)Power supply
(2)Bad leaders
(3)Poor Management
(4)Evil people in Aso Rock (in need of "divine intervention"wink grin grin ;Dlol. . .9ja and their "crusades"

It's the mind set of the people.Nigerians or Black Africans have a "reverse/backwards mentality" mind set. That is why nothing we do works.Go to any government parastatal in the country. The people there run them as they like.I was at General Hospital (broad street) some days ago to donate blood to my sick father in-law (to be. . lol).I was shocked by what i saw.Sick and dying patients where left unattended to while the nurses spent time on the corridors GOSSIPING.The blood i donated took almost 9 hours to be administered to the sick old man.BLACK PEOPLE NEVER LIKE TO DO ANYTHING RIGHT.What you see in our leaders is what you see in our police, soldiers, lecturers, doctors, lawyers (everyone in general). We do things "upside down".

true talk my brother.
Sports / Re: Fortune Chukwudi (Under-17 Captain) Is At Least 25 Years Old by chire(m): 2:29pm On Nov 03, 2009
Hmmm, i dont know why i'm not surprised.
Is the MRI not supposed to detect overaged players? How did the captain manage to pass the test?maybe they used sub-standard machine,or they have done abracadabra to the mri result.
nfa or whatever their changed name is now is just doing everything in their power to make football loving nigerians unhappy.first it was our super eagles, then flying eagles, and now this scandal with the golden eaglets.
the chukwudi guy does not look 17yrs at all.
i want to think this is not true cos if if is,then we might as well kiss underaged competitions goodbye for some time to come.
