I didn't know where to go for advice on Canadian student visa. I have a Masters degree from a UK university. I'm currently doing my Nysc and I'm aiming to further my studies in Canada. The thing is I am not looking to apply for a PhD. My question is can I apply for another Masters or advanced degree in Canada?

I have done an interview for a Masters research (MRes) at Plymouth university. They said I will be offered admission as I aced the interview. However, I just got an email saying the course is 2 year part time which doesn't support a tier 4 application. They asked me if I have some other way of remaining in the UK on my passport or visa
What do I do now? Please any helpful information will be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying to attach a home office pdf document released in may 2015 that will give you a clear insight on what your chances are but I keep getting an error message.

It gives various examples where continuous residency may or may not have been broken and also examples where diplomatic visas can be used towards long residency.

You can drop your email add here if you wish and I will email it to you or you could do a google search and maybe you will find it.

There's another caveat to the long residency rule. During the entire 10years, you must not have spent a total of 18months outside the UK. You need to read the document to find out more.

For example, getting a 4years tier 4 visa in January 2010, waiting for it to expire in january 2014 (maybe the holder returned to nigeria) and then applying for another tier 4 visa say two months later (say march 2014)has "broken" the continuous residency chain required for ILR. So if such person is looking at ILR, the count starts again from March 2014.

I do not think that your residence in the UK will count in establishing ILR.
But why not submit the forms (download from UKGov website) and see?

Technically your count towards ILR started in 2012 when you got tier 4 student visa and from 2012 to 2016 is not 10 yrs, so basically you haven't met the requirement yet.

What about from 2006 when I first entered on a diplomatic visa? Thanks.

Hello house I am new here.
I would kindly like your opinion and advice with regards to ILR settlement in the UK.
I first arrived the UK in 2006 on a diplomatic dependent visa which expired in early 2012. I then had to go back home and apply for a tier 4 student visa in order to finish my undergraduate degree which was almost done (but my diplomatic visa expired before then). The tier 4 visa expired in August 2012 so I returned back home. I came back to UK on a visit visa towards the end of October to celebrate my graduation. I then returned back home Dec 2012 and applied for my masters and came back to the UK Feb 2013. The masters expired at the end of October 2014. I went back home and returned to UK near the end of November 2014 for my masters graduation. I have since returned back home end of April 2015.

I am aiming to apply for a PhD to commence sept 2015. My question is will I be liable for an ILR come 2016 given these dates? Thanks in advance and sorry for this long essay.

As far as I know, I haven't spent 6 months on a single trip out of the UK.
