PoliticsRe: PDP Urges Christians To Ignore Oritsejafor's Statements by chmod777: 12:15pm On May 26, 2012
If the north is poverty stricken,
1. Do the IEDs, the SUV, the AK47 etc cost 1penny, why are they lavishing money if they do not have
2. If it true they are poor, do the government do better in the South, what made/makes them poorer ? Do they government provide means of livelyhood for (for example) the Igbos where at least each home could afford 2meal/day

3. Do the common ppl worshiping their own God affect their poverty, such that they deserve to be killed.
4. Does the government provide school fees to the Southerners who opt to go to school ?

What makes the North poorer as we claim. huh??

Inferiority complex is the major problem of Nigerians.
What is wrong in taking hard line to foster growth and demand for local products. What does Dell, Asus, acer etc do differently from Zinox huh
This same approach has been taken by several governments from across the world. Now Nigeria has done it and Nigerians are complaining. What else could please Nigerians ?
Go to Japan/South Korea and look for Benz, Volvo, renault,Audi etc, then u would amswer for ur self.
FamilyRe: Why Do Some People Maltreat Their Househelps? by chmod777: 1:12pm On May 14, 2012
1. Social factor of master and slave in some parts of the world like ours
2. Disrespect for labor and presence of child labor. In the world where I leave, cleaners, careworkers, housekeepers, etc who work full time, earn more than doctors, engineers and nurses etc
3. Poverty: generally more than 90% are poor in those worlds, and when some come a little bit out of that level, they feel their children should be adored, not knowing that having to do things for one-self from childhood grooms independent mindset.
4. Pride : the city where I leave, when u visit pple, after eating, u must have to take your dishes to the kitchen and wash them. Also many restaurants make provisions for u to tidy your table and drop the dishes on conveyors but some pple in our world would wait for househelp, otherwise casing potbelly to themselves. When one could buy full course meal/day, he tends to feel big to do some dirty chores and as such feels a house help must be adopted to do them.

Thank God I leave in a world where evry1 seems to be equal irrespective of ur so called social status, age, education. No one is too big to do anything

Could everyone on Nairaland have a look this http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/ext/latest_release/ssd09.pdf
Save it on your PC and talk like at least half educated person. Just go to table TABLE 3.26b and case closed.
To help you find it easy when the document opens hold "Ctrl + F" keys, then type "TABLE 3.26b" in the box that appears on the pdf or browser, then hit enter and there you are. I believe this will close the whole argument about education in Nigeria. many more must be learned from the records.

Jamesqu: Sir,

Perharps you can share with us a link that says "applicants that INDICATED Imo" we can put this conversation to bed.

Assumptions can be dangerous. Please, help me with the link. I'm willing to learn sir!

AM ONLY JUST SAYING!
My brother Chiba1 has answered the question.
@Chuba1. Thanks for the empirical data
PoliticsRe: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by chmod777: 11:53am On Apr 30, 2012
Jamesqu: Oh, I see the confusion.

The stats show people who SAT the exam in IMO state not people of IMO state origin.

You can check the dailies again....kindly confirm!

JUST SAYING!
It seems young Nigerians lack brains, no wonder we are not developing. JAMB has always told us that the number of applicants who indicated IMO as state of origin has always been the highest. What more do you want to hear huh?. If you feel it is the number who sat in IMO state, this means you are now saying that population in IMO is higher than Lagos, OYO, Kano etc.. this becomes a big question for Nigeria.
Please if we cannot believe BBC statistics on education, JAMB and WEAC records on education, then we cannot believe this world is real. perhaps we are in a dream world.
WHY do we allow sentiments to becloud reasoning even when we see facts starring us in the face. Face the fact, IMO is the most educated, forget the statistics of Ekiti/bear parlor talks. Give us empirical data about anything and we believe you. Poor brains in Nigeria

Sagamite: It is quite foolish to conclude which region has the most educated based on JAMB enrolments or which university is of the highest quality based on selection popularity.

All the data from the table are only (at best) indicative, not conclusive.

If anyone is foolish enough to disagree with my assertion, feel free to challenge it.
My brother u had better faced reality steering u in the face. just tell ur piple to wake up. Please suggest how best to know which area is is more educated. Imo is about 50,000 more than the highest in SW.
Assuming 50K from IMo failed the exam and non failed in the highest state in SW, then it becomes equal to the highest state in SW, but is that possible ??
EducationRe: JAMB University Enrolment Figures Are Shocking? by chmod777: 3:34pm On Mar 31, 2012
oraclefemi: Youre wrong, a lot of students migrate to place where you can write the exams and cheat easily, my sister went to a village in ijebu to write waec, migration occurs i am sure of that
Dear oraclefemi, by oracle I feel u are an IT expert, u are more mature than the argument you are posing. Have u been following the threads ? State of Origin is used by JAMB , not state of residence or no of exam centres. Why not accept the fact that IMO people have over 40/% educated piple than most SW states, check it out from the link from nano.

Just face reality and ask your poeple to have interest in education period

EducationRe: JAMB University Enrolment Figures Are Shocking? by chmod777: 9:05am On Mar 31, 2012
Tony Spike: While I cannot contest any of these figures. I believe these figures can only be meaningful if we can infer the following facts:

1. Do high figures of enrollment correspond to better quality of applicants?

2. Does the preference for a University relate to higher standard of teaching and facilities?

3. How many of these "preferred" Universities produce high quality graduates who can compete with their international colleagues?

4. Finally, don't we have occurences of applicants travelling to "special" states for UTME exams? As far as 12 years ago, I have heard that Imo state has lots of "special" centres. Thus, these large figures may give us an hint to their existence?

Based on my personal experience in Enugu as a Youth Corper some years back, I have the following observation:

1. Many of the full-fledged rural secondary schools i.e. J.S.S 1 to S.S.3 have an average of four teachers with at least 120 students per schools.

2. Many of these schools still manage to have as high as 100 students for WASC/NECO exams (don't ask me how they do it).

3. There's an apparently low-interest in secondary education there based on my 1-year interaction with the natives.

4. The arrival of corpers at these rural schools is seen as an achievement by the principals. Infact, these principals bribe NYSC staff to boost up their teaching staff portfolio with corpers accounting for as high as 80 % in some schools.

Now, to the last question: what makes states like Imo and Anambra more special than Enugu in terms of enrollment? Are they shoring up their enrollment figures by accepting applicants from other states? I leave the forum to answer the rest because I am now confused.
--My dear, would you chose to deny your identity to be IMO, despite you live in a place like Lagos?
--Do you know Imo has highest cut-off even for schools in IMO, so why chose to be IMO if you know your chances are low by chosing IMO ?
--Let me make it clear that the number is got by telling the database (even excel) to print names who are from IMO in the WHOLE record in Nigeria.
---Please be concerned about your own state , why they have not been enrolling into education
---Why are you concerned about quality of applicants, would every one be a genius. The most important thing is that many people want to get educated irrespective of their intellectual endowment. D=Education changes the society.
---Please do not be envious because you cannot change the trend that way

~Bluetooth:
Most people prefer going to the interior villages in the east to write waec and jamb examinations because of malpractices.who wants to write exam in lagos and Abuja where there is strict supervision when you can get your 250 and above from one village in okija ? huh This figure does not translate to anything,it's just the usual student migration during exam period.if anybody has written jamb before, you'd understand better.
Please young man, this is obtained by asking the computer to give you the number of applicants nation wide who are citizens of any state. Do not cloud your reasoning with poor mindset. This trend has been there for the past 15 years. A lot more people from IMo are educated.
EducationRe: JAMB University Enrolment Figures Are Shocking? by chmod777: 8:43am On Mar 31, 2012
Why is Imo state always the highest in Education in Nigeria. Some folks even some Igbo folks would argue Anambra do not go to school, but I beg to defer because during my undergraduate , I had so many Anambra guys and even the best student was Anambra.
Kindly go back to JAMB statistical archive and you would see the trend is IMO, DELTA/ANAMBRA, and DELTA/ANAMBRA.

Please the other regions should wake up because the gap which Imo gives other states is always very wide.

IMO, IMO, I am happy to be Imo, and thank God Rochas has made education cheap

My people and low self esteem.
Eloquence huh does it imply only English ? it could be Igbo, Greek, Spanish, Swedish, German, Russian. It is very clear that naija piple at home and those in the UK and the US feel so much inferior that they think speaking English (sound diction) matters. Please to an average WHITE MAN who is not from the UK/US, it is very irrelevant , not to talk of China, Japan etc. Move round the world and you see clearer and get a new life. You will begin to appreciate to speak Yoruba, Igbo or Housa.

I wish i could take ALL niaija piple with me to places I have been to. Then they would realize.

Wake up from inferiority complex.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Youths Leave The Catholic Church? by chmod777: 10:13am On Mar 13, 2012
I hope this is ONLY for Nigeria, please go to other parts of the world and it may not be same.
Religion has always been in infusion of the local culture* (please read medieval history and the history of the church).
Catholicism derives much of its doctrines based on medieval European cultures. Pentecostal in Nigeria and the USA is not left out. Their practices are in consonance with contemporary culture. The world is dynamic. Those criticizing Catholicism should think deep and realize that Nigerian culture/belief now follows Nigeria churches. Arab and Islam is not left out.
Youths dump Catholicism in Nigeria because of so many reasons and the major is doctrinal and global fluidity of things.

I do not attend Catholic but I am sure the belief in Nigeria is quite different from that of the Asian Christians, Eu Christians, South American Christians etc.

You leave your faith just same manner your grand fathers thought it wise to dump African religion, and also expect your Children to do same.... life goes on

Thanks to Femi. To All Igbos (who naively do not understand Igbo by accepting "Igbo enwe Eze) and to the whole world . this is my main point of interest  from the piece
"He told me that unlike the Yoruba the Igbo were republican in nature and very independent-minded and that an Igbo father could not easily dictate to a son what his career should or should not be"

I am Igbo and understand the culture well, interpret it from contemporary world concept. Igbo is highly Republican than any Western or African culture.
