Agriculture / Re: I Need A Boer Goat Breed by choiceman(m): 1:04am On Sep 24, 2015
Below is another feedback from SA:

The estimate price for the Boergoats are as follows –

Boergoat Rams                 : USD 600-USD800 each
Boergoat Does                  : USD 220-USD280 each

Airfreight costs as follows -

1 x Crate / 10 Live Boergoats
Dimensions: 300*140*80cm/1
Weight: 840kgs
Destination: Lagos, Nigeria

Airfreight JNB-LOS           : USD 7,500.00
Surcharges                          : USD    840.00
Transport crate                 : USD   800.00
Export clearance              : USD   100.00

Total AIRFREIGHT cost : USD 9,240.00

Please note that it would be much more viable for you to export 30-40 goats i.s.o 10 goats as the airfreight cost will stay the same.
Agriculture / Re: I Need A Boer Goat Breed by choiceman(m): 1:00am On Sep 24, 2015
Yes, you can cross breed the Boer goats and Kalahari Reds, but you only need one buck for 30 to 40 ewes. One buck will easily cover 9 does, but it is up to you.

The C&F prices for the 10 Boer goats to Lagos, (excluding quarantine, blood tests etc – if needed in Nigeria) are as follows:

Young buck – from US$1 250.00 each
Young does – from US$750.00 each

The Kalahari Reds are US$100.00 per goat more expensive than the Boer goats.

Attached, please receive some photos of the Boer goats and Kalahari reds.

Above is one of the response I got from South Africa

Foreign Affairs / Re: Open Letter To NIGERIA From A SOUTH AFRICAN by choiceman(m): 4:39pm On Apr 24, 2015
Thandolwethu:
I start by imploring you to read this letter with an open and unbiased mind as this will enable you grab the full gist of my message.
I am a full blooded South African, born and bread in Soweto. I have never been to Nigeria and my impression of your Country is formed by the behaviour and actions of the many Nigerians who live in SA and what we hear and read from the media about the goings on in your country.
I deliberately joined Nairaland today as I noted that alot of you are on this Forum hence its a good platform to pass my message. Suffice it to say that i will delete this account after this message. I will read your responses with keen interest.

1. There is no question that there was xenophobic attack on Foreigners in SA in the past 3weeks. What is in doubt is the scale of the attack. I have noted that Nigerians have overtly blown the crises out of proportion by spreading lies and wrong informatiom concerning the crisis. The idea that South Africans are going round SA cities killing, maiming and burning Foreigners is a lie. Only 7 people have been killed so far and of these 7, 3 are south Africans, 2 Ethiopians and 2 Mozambican. The world media is in agreement with these figures. While its 7 lives too many that doesnt give credence to the news going round in Nigeria that we are killing and burning Foreigners. If thats true then there would be more people dead.
STOP BELIEVING WHATYOU READ AND WATCH ON social media as most are lies and fabricated figments of the imaginations of mischievous Nigerians in other to stoke the flame of discord between Nigeria and SA.

2. Why are Nigerians up in arms against SA with xenophobia when the war in Nigeria is far worse than here in SA. Boko haram is killing thousands your people everyday and theres no end in sight meanwhile no Nigerian has been killed in this Xenophobic attack. That is why Nigerians throng our embassies in Lagos and Abuja seeking Visas to come to SA and escape the despicable living conditions in the slums of Nigeria.

3. This recent Xenophobic attack was predicated on the fact that Foreigners commit so much heinous crimes in SA without impunity and we are tired of all these. We have our own criminals here so we cant add more problems from foreigners.
A. NIigerians are the kingpins of drugs killing our children and society. Your brothers drug our girls into prostitution. They con our people with fraud and 419. They hack into our bank accounts stealing millions.

B. Zimbabweans are involved in robberies and car hijackings

C. Mozambicans kill our farmers and take our jobs for peanuts leaving many South Africans jobless

D. Ethiopians and Somalians open shops to do illegal activities and pollute our communities. Theres a Somalian shop in every 2 houses on every street in SA. No Country can allow that.

SA has its own issues but we would like to solve them without the added problems of Foreign crimials.

If you like burn down shoprite and close MTN its your people that will suffer because these companies employ millions of Nigerians. They will simply go jobless.

Thank you

@liferace, I will buy greenhouse from dizengoff, the actual cost is about 1.1m, installation and other materials will make it about 1.6m, I have the quotation from them but thank God for this thread, I will first of all go by Jethro's way,i.e open field tomato farming between now and April. I am just waiting for January salary to raise funds for land preparation as irrigation. We shall overcome insha Allah.

@ ufeolorun,Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Let me say for the proposed tomato farm, I have 1 and half plot, that should take of 3 greenhouses of dimension 240m2. For my poultry I have to pen 30feet by 100feet, I have two of that but at the moment I am using one with 2000 birds. Don't want to go above my means but 2 pens should take 4K birds conveniently. As per security, I have purchased 4 rolls of gauze wire popularly known as barbed wire, each is of 60feet length that I planned to secure the tomato farm with but the poultry is sited at Odongunyan farm settlement at Ikorodu, initially left everything in the hands of God(f olorun shole) but thieves almost killed my dreams so I employed vigilante called Onyabo in Ikorodu their fees is reasonable sha, like 15k per month. Their is the adage that says person wey wan chop well most lock door well, those guys can send someone back to square one if you are not prepared for them.

@Kalusam, i thank you for the input. I may have approached the wrong people for seeds but at the same time, i had limited time that was why i decided to import. Like i told you, i always run a pilot project before embarking on large scale, so the cost of seeds wasn't an issue to me, TIME was the main issue. Now, @kalusal and Soloxam, where can i get seeds in Lagos? How much is the weed barrier and how can i get it ASAP(Plastic Mulch). Please tell me now before I import o. Laugh!!!! (but i am serious).

I work in office 7am to 6pm everyday, the windows i have are Sat/Sun plus Public holidays, I work like donkey on these days with the help of my beautiful wife, very hard working. You can see reason why i cannot wait for so long for these farm inputs. Dry season farming is more profitable and we have very short window especially in Lagos that you cannot determine when the rainy season starts.E.g, I have been making money from Ewedu(Corchorous Olitorius) since December, I sell a bed of 3 feet by 7 feet 1,200 Naira minimum thank God for people that supply the seeds from Abeokuta we wouldnt have been able to get it easily. During rainy season the bed goes for as low as 300 Naira max, 500 and i have like 160 beds( free money) a paint rubber of the seed cost 4,500 anyways but we still churn out high profit. You can see the difference in dry season farming compared to rainy season.

PLEASE PARDON ME FOR MENTIONING EWEDU AS WE ARE DISCUSSING TOMATO. Didn't mean to deviate from our discussion,I just used it to drive home a point. House forgive me please.

Time na money my brother.
