Foreign AffairsPro-junta & Anti Macky Sall Rally In Paris Over The Weekend. by ChonchaLib(op): 1:38pm On Aug 09, 2023
I was taking a walk on Saturday and came across this group. An almost endless procession on Pigalle. Juxtaposed against the sex shops and risque bath houses, it looked funny.

Pretty much they were shouting anti Bazoum, anti Macron and anti Macky Sall rhetoric.

There were even Casamance separatists there. Interesting coalition.

Over major group sef.. YORUBA stand gidigba for ground. We conquered fear a long time ago so nobody fit do anyhow near us for this Nigeria.

I wish Bazoum regains his freedom and Niger republic returns to democracy.. It's for the benefit of everyone in West Africa, Africa and the whole world.
A northern President just pretty much almost ruined Nigeria and nothing happened. A good or bad Yoruba, Igbo or mainstream north (Hausa Fulani or Kanuri) President should survive any scenario in Nigeria.

I don't think Bazoum will make it back tho. That'd be asking for the sacrifice of the current set of coupists. They won't do that to themselves. African countries should be and are their own power centers. A returned Bazoum would have to be a lame duck or vicious hardline authoritarian to keep the balance.... What is the use of either ?

Let's see how the ppl take the coup one year or two years in. Attitudes change. Chances are for another Hausa President in a few years. Maybe they do a system of power sharing to ease the nerves. Set up a council of elders (past leaders and generals, Bazoum can be part of this) to ensure that boundaries aren't overstepped.

Either way, a quite complex situation.

Fula agenda like you rightly said.. with their person as military leader in Nigeria, nobody will be able to challenge their takeover of lands for their herders.

I don't know maybe it's just my thinking, but I feel they had it all planned.. Coup in Niger republic and Nigeria to go together but our president was so smart not to fall into a trap, the man skipped all their already positioned men to appoint much credible officers as security chiefs.. All plans failed in Nigeria.
The other man in Niger republic; Bazooum (from a minority tribe there) wasn't wise enough to reshuffle those he trusts with security.. now see the outcome.
Bazoum's situation is quite different. Bazoum didn't take power as a Diffa Arab. He did so under the cover of Issoufou's guardianship. Arab Nigeriens are weak in Nigerien politics. They dominate business quite alright, but have a tiny population (below 2% if not 1) and have for the most part not dominated any national institution.

Hausas enjoy a plurality but aren't as entrenched as the Songhay related Zarmas/Djermas who Issoufou tried to straitjacket to an extent. Zarmas have historically run the army and have developed an attachment to power.

At the protests last week ppl were chanting "we are finally free" in Zarma.

Bazoum's inability to manage his relationship with Issoufou and the ppl who Issoufou put there to see things landed him where he is today. Democracy in Africa isn't pure. And Bazoum himself knows this. He didn't earn that place and wasnt in a position to try to run his own show.

At this point, the deed has been done. Just like their removed the Kanuri/Fula/Arab (anything but Hausa or Zarmas) Mamadou Tandja in 2010,they did to Bazoum in 2023.

Tinubu on the other hand is from a major group and earned power in his own right.

CallofDuty:
secondly you mentioned hitting quota of 4MBopd in 2010 or even in 2023.. what ever year..are you aware there is the OPEC that regulates oil production by giving member countries quota? Do you think the international Oil market is a free market?? Do you think it's only Nigeria that produces oil? If Saudi Aramco opens their wells to the world..you think you can sell?
The cartel does not prohibit capacity investments.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-saudi-oil-policy-analysis-idUSKCN0I229320141014

You can have the capacity to sell 10 mm bopd and cut to 2 mm bopd like Saudi did in the 80s. And to a lesser extent in the period from 2020 till now..

That's why Nigeria had hopes of 4 mm bopd by 2010. Obj used to meet with shell and other execs back in the day (Omiyi, Imomoh, Van de Berg) on this aim.

I just did a random search and saw this:

https://www.reuters.com/article/africa-oil-nigeria-idUSL816894220081008

Literally didn't make it up.

Now regarding the alphabet soup. I didn't say nnpc and napims were side by side. As napims was the upstream jv arm of the company. My error is in conflating napims with nuprc instead of with nnpc uims. So duly noted. Thanks 👍

Yes, Nuprc is the upstream successor of dpr. I missed that. Perhaps, the source of your concern ?

End of the day if you read logically u will still get the point of unmet cash calls and the resulting poor investment profile of the different projects from its largest stakeholder. Hence, the President's directive for the divestment.

I don’t understand half of the write up but it sounds very intelligent. 😀😀
Essentially selling off the 55/60% stake held on behalf of nnpc by napims(now nnpc uims).it never worked because napims was never on time or diligent with its cash call obligations. the proportion of ownership in a JV comes with commensurate investment and operational obligations. Something that was never developed beyond paper/mouth.
This was detrimental to the devt of fields/production and also a window for dispute with IOCs. Made Nigerian energy industry not as attractive as it should be.

So Tinubu is telling them to sell off their stakes (very attractive to buyers the world over) who would happily take up the requisite obligations and focus on regulation. At the same time, nnpc ltd is now longer a policy maker (like when dpr was functionally under/attached to it) . Therefore, proper business decisions will be made across the board. Well ideally.

Good thing is that you actually get to invest in producing assets and other prospective ones and thereby increase production. There's also gonna be a few billion usd (the estimated 17.4 in this case) realized from the sale of the JV stakes which will be put to other use. Esp in this post subsidy environment.

So this is fantastic. That 4 million / day was supposed to be accomplished by 2010. Nigeria needs to hit the hydrocarbons market with max production at any given time. Before the window for exceptional profits closes. As we get more African producers on board and anti-oil propaganda picks up in the West.

I see abe winning
I'm picking Sim. Abe will have a fruitful career at federal with BAT. But lose Rivers.

The Ogoni-riverine coalition you mentioned doesn't exist and will not emerge. Those are two groups with prejudices against each other and no partnership.

The Opobo-Bonny riverine bloc is for pdp. Andoni is not sure for pdp, but possible. Upland Onelga will go pdp way. Etche will be a battle ground. Certain areas will go lp (oyigbo etc). Apc will take kalabari.

The Ogoni bloc is akin to the East on the national. Justifiably right in crying marginalization, but not strategic enough. Sdp will take Ogoni.

Anything but pdp, at the final stages, will be reversed. Even if the pdp loses. And OBALGA will be announced last.

And in those countries only villagers vote?
Like I said, you are being dishonest. When you're in Europe, UK or the US, is the question of identity a regional based thing. On the level of nationhood, is it uniform or broken. And if united, why ? Why aren't the defining local characteristics like accent, names, common ancestry (Scandinavians in Minnesota, English in Massachusetts etc)or lifestyle, taken over nationhood? That overarching 'sense of belonging.' Was it formed in a day? What were their trajectories to the development of a national identity, beyond uniform administration and common national borders?? When you answer that, then you know what I am saying.

You know very well what I am talking about. You're dissimulating.

On the flip side, why is Basque in Vizcaya a problem, or Catalan identity an issue, in Spain. But at the same time, the descendants of Basque merchants in Colombia identify as 'Spanish' alongside those of Castellanos?

Unwanted ones will not. And never do. When Nigeria reaches a consensus between its various communities. When the accretion of its constituent communities crosses the nation-building threshold.
