Naaa you didnt get the joke. If you did, your reply would have been different. That's by the way though. Concerning time difference, by 1st week in April, all that time difference will change by -1 because of daylight savings Preciousstones: |
Oh shut it and stop being hypocritical!! Are you privy to information on the lives they have touched? So they shouldnt enjoy their hard earned money even after they have touched lives? By the way let me ask you, with the little you have, how many people have you helped? sucess001: |

In truth, the doctor is the leader of the health care team in aspects relating to clinical practice. This is obtainable ANYWHERE you go in the world. Now this does not and should not relegate the importance of other health care team members. On the contrary, in countries with saner health care practices, the doctors cannot carry out certain tasks until inputs of other healthcare members have been considered. Part of the problems we have are also as a result of the sheer arrogance of certain doctors who refuse to recognise the importance of other members and deem themselves lord of others. Do they expect the rest to sit down and fold their arms? Nobody is all knowing. If/when you, as a doctor have doubts about medications and prescriptions, consult the pharmacist and ask for his/her opinion. When certain lab parameters are not clear relating to management of a disease/patient, consult the med lab scientist and so on. Accord one another the respect due. NO PROFESSION IN THE HEALTHCARE SETTING IS UNIMPORTANT. Naturally, friction will exist at certain times between various professions and it is the professionalism that makes each person/body realise that the patient is the sole reason they have their jobs. Enough of all this bickering and shameful e-wars we have on in here!! |
just imagine what professionals are spewing on this thread. Do you guys sound professional at all? Would a vulcanizer (with all due respect) and a motor park tout sound any different? Shame on all of you. Real big shame..How on earth do you want to earn respect when you can all descend so low as to brandish childish names, curse and abuse each other? There is a huge problem looming in the health sector and all you guys can do is to start an e-war here forgetting that the kids of the doctors here may want to become pharmacists in future and vice versa? well done. if you feel this is the best way to proffer solutions and contribute to this thread in a concerned and respectable manner, then who am I to think otherwise. Una well done o!!! |
By the way, i also school at university of sydney though i am a masters students |
Phd students are normally considered and given preference when research/teaching assistants are sought by some lecturers in the school depending on your area of research. Also Phd students are able to work for unlimited number of hours while studying. Depending on your tuition fee however, this may just partly cushion the effect of the heavy fee. Lastly, some scholarships may be available to phd students also depending on your faculty/area of research. you will have to check the school website for such as well as other scholarship websites. Yeah naija artistes and actors come here..basketmouth was here last quarter of the year..ramsey nouah was here earlier than that. Trust naija people to always turn up no matter the cost bossladyMo: |
LOL..well i dont know the specifics of their case but if na me, me sef go jejerly drop am for them bossladyMo: |
There was no problem at all with Nigerian officials concerning foodstuffs. The only "problem" you may encounter is having to "settle" them before boarding especially if your passport is a "virgin passport". If you stand your ground (though in a polite and firm manner) they have no choice but to let you go. If however you are over excited and happy, well you can decide to give them small kola ![]() bossladyMo: |
@preacher, which day u land? No be you i see for TV during that Rafael Nadal match? ![]() prechear: |
yeah same thing happened in my own case. I was able to bring in egusi and ogbonno because they were well dried, ground and put in a transparent cellophane bag and well labelled. I even included the scientific names for both of them and the official at the Australian immigration centre was thoroughly impressed . However not every bag was checked as some people passed without opening their bags. Also make sure you answer any questions asked (while filling out the declaration form on the plane as well as when checked after landing) as truthfully as possible. Safe journey y"allP.S- Is anyone heading to Sydney? |
just saw that you stay in sydney. What part of sydney do you stay? would have preferred sending you a pm but i do not know your policy regarding that. oge4real: |

If your health insurance is OSHC then dental treatment is not covered. You can confirm from their website. equlibrium: |
If you are coming as a student, OSHC does not cover dental procedures. Not even partially. you have to pay the full cost. Permanent residents and citizens will be better suited because depending on insurance type and cover, they can get partial or full dental insurance cover bossladyMo: |
Another advice for people coming over here. If you have any medical (especially dental issues) please get it treated and sorted out in naija before coming over NO MATTER HOW EXPENSIVE it may seem. Cost of dental services here is killing. Imagine a lot of my asian friends having to defer their dental checkups and treatments till school holidays so that they can get cheaper services back home. As has been suggested, if you can stay clear of obtaining a credit card. Banks here have a way of making money out of you when you get one. For those coming to Sydney, get ready to hustle for jobs you probably didnt envisage yourself doing. Job opportunities are getting tighter by the day. For the guys, buy a clipper and learn how to shave yourself (or get someone to teach you). you can potentially save a couple of bucks that can be of great help towards other necessities like accomodation and transport. |
Jagz the greatest?? BULLS**T!!! lets do a simple comparison..What are Jagz top 5 tracks ever??lyrically if u wanna go down that path? Then bring out M.I's top 5 tracks...infact bring out any of either Talk bout it, Illegal music 1 and 2 and you'll know who the boss is..I agree that M.I has been crappy of late..infact his chairman album is the worst of his 3 albums (fact!!!) but when he is on heat, he'll murder anybody!!!!!!! listen to pen, nicotine, problems etc from illegal music 1 and appreciate the god-man M.I!! i'm not saying jagz aint gud...he is really gud but baba go always be baba!! |
Some hours ago, i just stumbled on an old Naija track which i had not heard in a very long while titled "Ruggedy baba" by ruggedman featuring 9ice and I couldn't help but put the track on repeat simply because of 9ice's hook on the track. He was simply immense and infact without the hook, the track would have been average at best. There are other naija songs which have similarities in this regard where without the hooks, the tracks would not be hits. Examples are Surulere by Dr. Sid ft Don Jazzy and Oleku by Ice prince ft Brymo. Which other naija tracks do you think are in this category? Your comments and contributions are welcome |

Events over the past months and years has given me the impetus to write this article based on a purely objective and unbiased point of view. Before i begin, I will like to reiterate two things; first, I am a practising pharmacist in Nigeria but currently undergoing a masters degree programme here in Australia with the hope of full registration by next year. Second, this article will be a lengthy one so you need a bit of patience to go through my points. I may however tend to lean towards the pharmacy point of view (for obvious reasons). The term “International best practices” has been bandied around by both the NMA and JOHESU in their quest for superiority in the health sector so I would juxtapose the ideas of this phrase in Nigeria with what truly obtains here in Australia. 1. There is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for other health care consultants (pharmacists, nurses, med lab scientists, physios, etc) in hospitals. I recently concluded a placement in one of the hospitals here in Sydney and on the second day after commencing, I asked my preceptor “How many consultant pharmacists are employed in the hospital?”. Her reply was simple. “In hospitals? No. We do not need them”. And rightly so because all they need are well grounded and extremely knowledgeable clinical pharmacists who are assigned to particular wards. In other wards, you have a pharmacist in charge of and responsible for all medication and medication related intervention in a particular unit. My preceptor is a year younger than I am but when it comes to medication issues especially as it relates to her unit (Neurology and Medical Assesment Unit) she is extremely brilliant, simply because she is specialized in that aspect. That is what we require; specialization, not necessarily with the name tag “Consultant”. The same goes for other health care workers with the nurses having the designation “Nursing specialist”. Some of them are even more highly specialized as seen with the Drugs and Alcohol Nursing specialists 2. The patient belongs to EVERY MEMBER of the health care team Another contentious issue. We often hear that the patient is registered under a particular consultant and thus that consultant owns the patient. True. Even “truer” however is the fact that other health care members who attend to that patient also own the patient. In other words, the patient belongs to the members of the health care team treating the patient. “How does the pharmacist or physio or Med lab scientist contribute to the patient’s treatment?’’.Oh!!!! A whole lot. I was amazed at the contribution of the pharmacists in patient healthcare. Did i have to be? No because it is what they do. They go on ward rounds, review each and every patient, intervene where such is needed and make recommendations. These people know almost everything about their patients!! If they notice any unusual error or problem with a patient's medications or observable side effects, they page the doctor or team currently attending to the patient. Infact in my short stay, I helped prevent complications from arising when an old woman with a history of penicilin allergy was changed from IV ceftriaxone to Augmentin Duo forte tablets which the doctor had prescribed probably due to oversight. The unity and relationship between all health workers is what we really need in Nigeria. Of course you still have some consultants (doctors in this case) who overlook what the pharmacist has recommended at certain times but whatever happens to the patient henceforth is the responsibility of the doctor as long as the pharmacist has documented the intervention. The dietician, occupational therapists also play very significant roles in the management of a patient if their services are required especially in the case of geriatrics. The take home point here is, UNITY!!!! 3. The Government takes Health care very seriously Certainly not the case in our country. Once a patient is admitted, (and as long as you have your medical insurance), EVERYTHING is free; medications, food, laboratory tests and so on. They have a unified payment system for payment of salaries with relativity as regards your work description (though I do not think JOHESU has asked for same pay with NMA members). The government understands the important role of health care workers and as much as possible, try to keep them “comfortable” within their budget. They ensure the hospitals have all required machinery and equipment for proper functioning. Throughout my stay in Nigeria, I never saw any hospital with a pneumatic tube system, yet these are basic things over here. I can go on and on. But the bottom line here is that all stakeholders have to come to a round-table. Let each profession recognise the importance of the others. Let the doctor do his/her job and collaborate with other healthcare team members with the patient being uppermost in his/her mind. Let the nurse do same. Allow him/her go for relevant courses and apply what has been learnt to patient care. Let the pharmacist go on ward rounds, review patients and make proper interventions as his job description entails(in addition to dispensing of course). Same goes for the medical laboratory scientists and physios. Let the government open its eyes and do its duties as regards proper health care delivery At the end, let the welfare of the patient be the primary reason we have chosen our jobs and lets eschew bitterness, greed and selfishness. |
Don't be disheartened if you are asked to undergo xray at least 2 more times before your visa is granted. Not because I do not wish you well, but because I was exactly in your shoes. Had to do 2 more xrays after the initial culture and xray before my visa was granted. After the last xray i swore I was not going to do another because of the inconvenience, the stress money and risk of travelling but thank God that was the last. Infact I had to defer my admission to the following session. I hope yours comes out different and you get yours on time. aduktus: |
i really do not know if ICAA is only for chartered accountants. I do not think so. As per "taking forever", that will primarily depend on how fast you can give them all necessary documents..I dont think it takes forever though bjayzeez: |
from what I found out, they all assess academic qualification and skills but they assess the former first before the latter. Meaning if you apply to have both assessed, if you are not given a positive assessment for your academic qualifications, then they wont go ahead with your skill assessment and will refund you the payment..Did you say 10-15 days? I think you mean weeks...Have you done your IELTS? When do you intend lodging your documents for assessment? bjayzeez: |
I talked about this issue with Preacher some weeks ago. He went with CPA due to personal preference though I have told my fiancee who is the applicant to go with ICAA. Reason being that they'll take 4 weeks to assess both academic qualifications and skills employment. IPA and CPA take relatively longer. bjayzeez: |
what part of Australia are you? Its good to hear you are enjoying the place. Racism though not rampant or common here really exists and may not be expressed as calling you derogatory names or stuff like that...simple acts like preferring to stand up rather than sit beside a black person, or facial expression changes when its the turn of a black person to speak are some of the acts some black people experience..including me..Doesnt bother me as it used to before.. iriferi: |
Wow!!!! Congratz boss!!! Great News...Saw the timeline of your application and it only encouraged me (concerning my fiancee's application, remember?)..What part of Australia are you headed too? If its Sydney, you can holla at me before/during/when you arrive....Congrats once again.. PS - I might still "disturb" you a little with certain questions later on after the skills assessment prechear: |
Thanks a lot. Part of the requirements for skilled employment assessment was payslips though I am not sure how many they want for a 3yr working period bt I think one every quarter or half yearly will do.. Yes I checked CPA and it takes about 8weeks or so to assess. ICAA takes just 4weeks and that is why I was wondering why u chose CPA initially. .Thanks though...You've been great prechear: |
Sorry i have other Qs to ask concerning assessment. Is one required to provide payslips for EVERY month worked for the employment skills assessment? Concerning ICAN, should one also provide the syllabus or will the result certificate suffice? I'll like to also know how long CPA took to assess your qualifications. Thanks prechear: |

n CPA takes 10-15 days, and they verify both
