SGB IS THE BEST EDUCATION POLICY IN OYO STATE SAYS NUT.

THE Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Chapter has described School Governing Board, SGB policy by the state government as the best ever.

The Union stated this today during this year’s celebration of World Teachers ‘ Day held at Teachers’ House,
Oluyole, Ibadan.

The Secretary of the Union, Comrade Waheed Olojede who also doubles as the Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the state chapter maintained that the policy of the state government has promoted educational development in the state.

According to him, “this policy among other policies on education in the state has portrayed the mantra of collective responsibility of Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led government dubbed, ‘Ajumose’.

“We are also thanking the governor because the celebration of teachers today is not only about teachers but also the government who has assisted the teachers so far”, he said.

In his address, the Governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi who was represented by the state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela congratulated the teachers on occasion of their celebration.

The governor said: “Since the inception of this administration in 2011, we have worked at upgrading the self-esteem of our teachers through the formulation and implementation of morale boosting policies.

“This administration upgraded the terminal grade level of primary school teachers from grade level 14 to 15 and we have made sure that teachers were actively represented on committees on issues of education policies and interventions.

“Also, teachers have been enjoying the increased car and housing loan facilities instituted by this government. We have also worked to improve the working environment of teachers by repositioning our schools. The re-distribution of secondary schools into junior and senior schools as well as the institution of the School Governing Board, SGB on which principals and head teachers are administrative secretaries, have not only helped to ensure a better administration but has also helped to make our schools self-reliant”, Ajimobi added

Politics / Photos: Ajimobi Declares War Against Criminals by choplife007: 9:31pm On Aug 04, 2017
Ajimobi declares war against criminals
…re-inaugurates joint security outfit, security trust fund trustees

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Friday inaugurated the new Board of Trustees for the state's Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF), even as he declared war on criminal elements in the state.

The board, headed by the Deputy Governor, Operations, of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chief Bayo Adelabu, was inaugurated at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, with a mandate to reinvigorate the security outfit.

The governor had also inaugurated the newly reconstituted state’s Joint Security Task Force, codenamed `Operation Burst,’ at Idi-Arere, which is considered one of the hot spots in the city of Ibadan, on Friday.

Members of the OYSSTF include the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azeez Adeduntan; a member of the Olubadan-in-Council, High Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Dr. Adesola Adeduntan; Dr. Falil Ayo-Abina; Engr. Femi Odumagbo; and Mr. Vickram Goushani.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Mr. Femi Oyedipe, will serve as Executive Secretary of the board.

Ajimobi described the two occasions as a milestone in his administration’s efforts at stamping out all forms of brigandage and violent activities, which, he said, had earned the state the appellation of a garrison before the advent of his administration.

He said: "Before our administration came on board in 2011, Oyo State used to be known as a garrison, because of the violence, arson, brigandage and destruction of property being carried out by criminals.

"This led to the establishment of a Security Trust Fund and ‘Operation Burst' in 2013 which eventually brought peace back to the state. We were then able to stem the tide of armed robbery, gangsterism and other vices with this instrument of the law.

“We have now fortified the 'Operation Burst' with officers and men of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Special Response Squad of the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to renew the people's confidence in the capacity and capability of the outfit.”

While inaugurating the 20 new patrol vans donated to the state by the OYSSTF at Idi-Arere, the governor promised that other arms and ammunition required to fight crimes and criminal activities to a standstill would be made readily available to the security outfit.

He charged members of the board to apply the Trust Fund law recently amended by the state House of Assembly towards the sustenance of peace, saying the law had paved the way for private sector involvement.

The governor, who emphasized that security was a serious business that involved the participation of all and sundry as well as sustained funding, called for a robust data base and public-private partnership.

Ajimobi said that arrangements were being made for the installation of Closed Circuit Television cameras in strategic areas and a base station where people could call in for emergencies as well as acquisition of aerial patrol helicopter.

He added, "We have come to knock on the doors of brigands to flush them out. We decided to choose this location (Idi-Arere) for this occasion because it is generally believed to be the hot spot of criminal activities in the city of Ibadan.

"With this development therefore, `One million Boys’ should be on the run! There is no more a safe haven for criminals and perpetuators of violence in our state."

In his remark, Adelabu said that a sustainable funding for security was imperative, adding that nothing meaningful could be achieved in an atmosphere of insecurity and chaos.

He commended the Ajimobi administration for restoring sanity to the state after a long period of violence and brigandage preceding his emergence.

Adelabu pledged his members’ readiness to assist government in raising funds through voluntary donations by individuals, groups and corporate bodies.

He said: "The attainment of peace and tranquility is commendable. But, the greater challenge is its sustainability until it becomes our way of life and permanent identity in Oyo State.

"Security has no colour; it transcends party politics; it goes beyond religious affiliation; it does not recognize economic status; it is blind to ethnic affiliation and it ignores the age of victims.

“The uncommon strides of the present administration should, therefore, be commended for eradicating insecurity in Oyo State."

It will be recalled that the national bureau of statistics recently listed Oyo State alongside Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory as the most investor-friendly destinations in the country due to the sustained peace in the states.

The twin occasions were graced by eminent personalities, security chiefs, traditional rulers, captains of industry, members of the State Executive Council and members of the public.

Politics / Ajimobi Assures Of Prudent Management Of Endowment Fund. by choplife007: 9:19pm On Aug 03, 2017
Ajimobi assures of prudent management of endowment fund

…Says Health insurance is compulsory

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State disclosed that the recently introduced health insurance scheme is compulsory for all residents of the state, assuring that funds realized from the N50bn endowment will be judiciously utilized and well accounted for in line with the administration’s tradition of prudence, transparency and accountability.

The governor said that the N650 month subscription fee for the health insurance will be deducted from the salaries of workers in the state, stressing that the workers of state’s contractors will also be mandated to subscribe to the scheme.

Governor Ajimobi made these disclosures on Thursday at the official launch of the N50 billion HealthCare Endowment Fund, which attracted donations and pledges from International organisations, private sectors, government functionaries, traditional rulers and eminent personalities, for the restoration and transformation of government hospitals and health centres in the state held at the International Conference Centre, UI, Ibadan

He said “the recently introduced Health Care Insurance Scheme is a move in this direction. Our target is the active participation of all and sundry in the development, management and funding of Health Care Services. While I heartily appreciate the high level of subscription already recorded, I wish to enjoin all those who are yet to register to go forth now to enjoin the benefits.”

The governor explained that there are growing examples in Nigeria where private sector involvement in healthcare delivery is helping in no small measure to complement Government’s efforts in the provision of efficient and sustainable healthcare services, noting that as individuals and corporate bodies, everyone should give back to the system part of what the system has given to us.

Governor Ajimobi stated that private sector involvement in healthcare dates back to 1883 when compulsory sickness insurance was introduced in Germany for some categories of workers. Pointing out that this marked the establishment of the first model of mandatory healthcare insurance in the Western world.

According to him, “Our administration has also realized the fact that we cannot fund the health sector alone without the active support of, and assistance from, the private sector and corporate bodies. We must, therefore, do all within our capacity to promote and achieve healthy living in our State.

“The endowment fund will no doubt, take care of most of the issues which have arisen from the dearth of fund owing to the dwindling resources of Government. I therefore charge you all to join us in our avowed commitment to revolutionize the health sector for enhanced service delivery as our administration has identified and treated health as one of the cardinal sectors,” he added.

Governor Ajimobi, who charged everybody to take the issue of their health seriously with regular check-ups, stated that the government has constituted a Board of Trustees consisting of eminent personalities and people of high moral standing to manage the fund, saying “let me assure you all that the Fund we are endowing today will be judiciously utilized and well accounted for in line with our administration’s tradition of prudence, transparency and accountability. As such, you are all assured of prudent application of the fund.”

In his address, the Chief Launcher at the Endowment Fund, Dr Paul Abolo said that health should not a humanitarian issue nor philanthropic, stating that it should be seen as the responsibilities of all to provide quality health care delivery.

The State Commissioner for Health, promised that the fund realized from the endowment fund will be used for equip the state hospitals, assuring that the Primary Health Centre in the state will be upgraded to international standard in the next 6months.

In his own speech, the Consultant on the endowment fund and Managing Director of HealthCare Communications noted that the concept of an endowment fund is international, stating that 30/40% of investment in Health comes from high networth individuals.
