safarigirl: that shouldn't be an excuse. The Super Eagles fielded our second eleven for the Mandela cup against Bafana Bafana and we still won 2-0. If the likes of Gyan, Essien, the Ayew brothers and Steven Appiah get injured, are you saying Ghana can't take on any challenge? Is your first eleven indispensable?

And who is making excuses.they take on the challenge with importance as to whom they are playing. Eg. In angola 2010 there was no essien muntari paintsil and mensah but were only stopped in the finals. The black stars 2 string side would definately go all out against nigeria than say liberia

'' my brother you will play again and your people( Ghana) will come for you and you will go to the world cup''

Richard Kingston is indeed favoured by God angry This guy was completely irrelevant in the scheme of things with regards to player selection to the national team. After beating Zambia 2-1 ,our coach suddenly realised he needed the experience of Kingston to face egypt.Just wondering why he did not start him though. Chai! 3rd straight world cup for Olele, the young keepers don suffer

Nigeria got a befitting trophy for their Independence Day celebration in Accra when they beat Ghana 4-31/2 in the ‘Nigeria Independence Day Cup’ at the Accra Polo club last Saturday.

It was a sweet revenge for the Nigerians who lost to Ghana last year in the same competition.

Team Ghana, sponsored by Vodafone, paraded the likes of Dishan Ibrahim, Eric Gene, Lariposker Saneo and Damein Duncan whiles the Nigerians, sponsored by Access Bank, featured Yusuf Garba, Hassan Ramalan, Muhammad Dawule and Lawal Mohammed.

Nigeria started on a bright note and deservedly got the opener in the first chukker through Captain Yusuf Garba.

The Nigerian goal-poacher added a second few minutes later when he led ahead of a full-gallop to slot home the visitors’ second goal.

In the second chukker, Mohammed Lawal made it three for the visitors after another full-gallop by the pack saw him ahead and slotting the ball into the empty goal post.

But the Ghanaians came back strongly in the third chukker cancelling all three goals through Eric Gene ( who scored twice) and Damian Duncan.

However, the visitors’ superiority and experience helped agile Yusuf Garba to score the match winner at the stroke of match time.

Garba for his efforts got the Most Valuable Player trophy while his horse, Juan, owned by Mallam Ahmed Dasuki, received the best pony trophy.

Nigeria got the best team trophy and the champions trophy while Ghana won a consolation prize
