This is made worse by the fact that europe has been squeezed out of global economic opportunity/productivity. chinese control manufacturing, america controls tech. finance is now being decentralise by emerging cities such as singapore and dubai. The ridiculous tax burden is also forcing the rich to leave europe with their wealth.
africa which is meant to be the last resort of europe as a cheap place for natural resources is also rebelling against western hegemony.

You’re right about metal fatigue but in practice the fuselage of most aircrafts are the least thing to worry about. As long the aircraft was flown within the design limits, no incidents (tail strike, ground collisions) nothing will happen to the fuselage even after 50 years. Aircrafts do detailed X ray metal fatigue checks (d check) at around 25 years and even then very little fatigue is discovered. It is very rare to find serious metal fatigue even in very old planes. If you find it, it likely means someone subjected that aircraft to impact or serious aerodynamic stresses it was not designed for. That’s why aircrafts are grounded after incidents like that to check for damage.

The major points of concern are engine/engine parts (number one critical point), flight controls, hydraulics and then avionics/electrical systems. These are the moving/sensitive parts and they get repaired replaced and overhauled very often.

As long as spare parts are available for these moving parts, an aircraft can theoretically fly for more than 100 years even 200. United is flying 777s of over 25 years regularly. Delta has 767s and 757s that are beyond 27 years flying everyday. Cargo airlines are flying aircrafts of up to 40-50 years regularly. USAF is flying B52s of over 60 years, they planning to put a new engine and fly them for another 20 years or more.

Most aircraft are decommissioned because spares for these moving parts are no longer in the production line and/or are becoming very expensive or the aircraft is burning too much fuel compared to new ones. Also customer perception and comfort too. Airframe age is not the major concern.

The Houthis have created their own SAM. This changes everything. This shows that they aren't just a rag tag group but are an organisation with some serious capabilities. They have developed their own ballistic missiles as well and have occasionally targeted Israel with it.

What does this mean? This means that Saudi Arabia cannot bomb the Houthis recklessly anymore without expecting a Houthi response. Developing and fielding an active surface to air missile is a level of complexity that few nations have been able to achieve and yet the Houthis have done it. It is only a matter of time before the develop ballistic missiles with precise targeting abilities.

The Saudis don't have F-35 fighter jets so only Israel and the US can take on the Houthis presently and Israel really doesn't want that smoke now and the US secretly sent officials to meet with Houthi leadership last night. So the US too isn't that keen on attacking the Houthis. Besides the last time the US bombed them, it did little to change the situation until the US got bored and left.
