Agriculture / Re: Invest In Oil Palm Plantation by christian11(m): 12:30am On Sep 26, 2014
Op, good thread you have here. Good work, as for oil palm plantation, I've been thinking about this for a long time, what I
have noticed is that the problem lies on processing the palm
fruits into palm oil, not just planting. Selling palm fruits only
will yield just a "lazy income", the money lies in processing,
and it's costly to call people to do the processing for one
when one has about 100-1,000 and above palms, in cases
like that, machines must be used. So what is the cost of
these machines and how can it be procured?
Secondly, when the cost of running these machines (I.e, NEPA
and diesel plus staff) are put in place, how possible will it be
2 make d amount of money u just mentioned. Thank u,
looking 4wrd to ur answers.

Good post, good research and hard work, however I noticed some problems in the estimates. You didn't add other monthly costs like NEPA bills, money for buying diesel during power failure, paying of staff, packaging of processed products, secondly, you should also consider that they may be times in a year in which the processing machines may break down and need repair, in times like that, money may also be lost on repairs/maintenance, NEPA bills and staff (unless you pay them daily). Just my own little observation, overall, the opportunity is great!!!!!, I'm looking forward to investing in this. Thank u so much.

Lesgupnigeria:
Wind is not much a problem if you do the right planting at the right spacing.
It all boils down to good management practices.
Management is still the key to success in plantain farming business.
You need to know a lot of things on the field before planting.
Where is the direction of winds coming from,
whats is the landscape of the area,is it slopy or smooth......lots of inexhaustible questions needed to be answer which i might not be able to write until we are on the farm site where you wanted to cultivate the plantain.
When you are ready to start it up,you can.contact me.
Okay thank you really much. I'll do that.
