1. You will have to retreat the new suckers but if you feed your Plantain very well the forget nematodes

2.you can use nylon muching technology

3. Security challenges differs per location so no standard solution.
Firstly the case monkey buy gun or dog.
Secondly for human being do perimeter fence with moringa or jathropha we they are 2months old add barb wire around the tree and make sure there is no weed or bushes in and around the farm.
Okay.... Thanks man... I appreciate....
But d suckers, what are they retreated with....
I promise no more questions...

@World 1, I have just three questions, if u can help me answer these three questions, I'll always be grateful to you.
(1) The plantain suckers that are initially bought for planting are usually treated and protected against nematodes and other pests. However, when these suckers germinate and produce fruits, they die leaving behind new suckers. Since these new suckers are untreated, how are then now protected from nematodes & other pests? Is they any special chemical/pesticide for this?
(2) Improved plantain species take at least 9 months to reach harvest, during this period, the farm must be taken care of and weed must be controlled, this might cost some good money. Please, what is the most cost effective way to control weeds.
(3) Finally, sometimes farm security is always a problem. Plantain farms are vulnerable to invasion by monkeys and theft by man. Paying people from day 1 - 9 months to move around and secure one's farm may cost more than 50% of the income depending on size of the farm, & the cost of labour in the environment where one's farm is located. Please, how do you take care of this?
Thank u & God bless. Waiting eagerly for the answers...

For fetilizer Depends on the state of your land. But manure can be as frequent as possible.

I don't understand wat you mean by pesticides or chemical. Because the sucker is already treated.

5.5 feet is no acceptable. No

Thanks for replying.
However, please when applying manure before planting, how is it done? Is it just scattered all around the soil surface, or is it buried inside the holes where the suckers are planted?
Thanks again...

EXERCISE UNO: We need tools, so step out to the market between now and next weekend.
20 BAGCO SAC (should cost like 30naira for one)

You need soil, loamy soil, organic manure or NPk. If you have a poultry around, just get bird droppings.

Another thing, water is not negotiable, there should be available water. When all these are ready by the next weekend, I'll supply seed to interested candidates for free. (From my personal, depleting stash). Those seeds are just for test use. Not for commercial purposes.

Is it possible to get these done? Before next weekend? And am talking to interested parties only
Thank u...

But how can I get this mulching film, I stay in the east. Enugu to be precise... Thank u.

okay, I feel the need to tell a story before I retire for the night. A couple of years back, I was at the MM airport in lagos, heading to abuja. Just as we were waiting for our boarding time. Some big men In kaftans came in an entourage and bought the whole seats in our plane.

These dudes where not up to 20 but correct me if I'm wrong, a plane has a minimum of 60 passenger seats
Well, we were asked to wait a tard longer for their next flight. Trust Nigerians na, see pandemonium. People dragging shirts and singlets grin. I just sat at a corner, folded my hands, dumbfounded.

In my head I was just reasoning this out. The poor ones are here killing themselves, while the big men have boarded our flight and are half way to Abuja.
There and then, I consciously decided to be in the big league. That incident makes me stretch myself, keeps me motivated, keeps me going.

Now, I got your hearts in the right direction, it's time to get your hands dirty! And I mean that, literally. Tomorrow I share the action plan. I just need 10 farmers who have farmland hot and available to indicate interest. 2moro the real work begins.

Incase you don't have any available to you now, but you are going to be ready by march, still indicate interest.

This thread is about to get sweaty. Fun time is over

I am more than interested sir. Been following dz thread 4 a while, but I want ask, how do one get this mulching film?.

God bless u, God bless, Jethro2, world1, lesgupnigeria, hotmas911, and everyone of u guys that has made dz section on nairaland very very educative, and Finally, God bless Seun for nairaland.

Since no one is asking question again that shows we all know and understand everything about plantain business.
Now join me as I talk about moringa.
.
No now, plz, u haven't said anything about the cost analysis of running/setting up d farm now. Secondly, after setting up the farm, how frequently do u apply manure/fertilizer, & how do u control pests and diseases, what pesticides and chemicals do one use for that. Finally what if one uses a spacing of 5.5 feet by 5.5 feet for fruit production. Thank u boss, looking forward to your reply.

Thank you, God, for giving me another year of life.
Thank you for all the people who remembered me today
by sending cards, and letters, gifts and good wishes.

Thank you for all the experience of this past year;
for times of success which will always be happy memories,
for times of failure which reminded me of my own weakness and of my need for you,
for times of joy when the sun was shining,
for times of sadness which drove me to you.

Forgive me
for the hours I wasted,
for the chances I failed to take,
for the opportunities I missed this past year.
Help me in the days ahead to make this the best year yet,
and through it to bring good credit to myself,
happiness and pride to my loved ones,
and joy to you. Amen.
I wish u more healthy, happy and success filled years ahead.

mercylicious:

I think we shld be specifying the dimension of the plots we refer to. a plot in delta is equal to 2plots in anambra. delta measure plot 100 by 100 while anambra is 50*100.
ideally, one hectare which is 2.5 acres and 10 plots of 100 *100 should contain 1500 suckers.

The best spacing for plantain is 2 m by 2.5m for optimum yield
This is spacing recommended by iita. If it is more than that, u will be spending more resources required to maintain the farm. if it less than that, the yield might be affected.

@world 1, happy bday.

@securi,
mkt depends on your source of purchase. if world 1 is buying from.an expensive source his price will be expensive.
When i set out to buy my plantain, the farmers here sell 400 for an improved sucker. The agric dept here sells200, world 1 sold 150 b4 he later brought down his price. legsup sold 80 naira. i know how much i finally bought it (wit discount). If i want to sell tommorow, i will sell at any price i want to sell. a seller may decide to buy from me after considering the best price he has got so far.

@World1, try to dey temper justice wit mercy.
Thank u very much, for the reply. God bless ya.

You are highly welcome
Its usually mixed with some quantity of water.
For instance, the recommendation for GNLD Pro grow that we use is 16 litre water + 3 Spoonful of the liquid fertilizer for an acre of cucumber
Each liquid fertilizer has its own application uses
But is it harmful to the leaves, does the fertilizer affect d leaves when sprayed on top of d plants.

Mind what you post here people in the seed sector are watching.
