Text: 2 Corinthians 10:7-12

MEMORISE: We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. (2 Corintians 10:12).

EXPOSITION

Imitation is trying to be like someone, possibly because of one's admiration of such personality and the way of life. Many use others as their role models or yardsticks for doing virtually everything they do, and this greatly influences such people's lives, sometimes negatively.

Rather than plan to profit from God’s word from such programmes, the major preoccupation is how much to be made from commercial activities.

EXPOSITION

Word is important for continuity in life. Kings and rulers rule by words (c.f.Eccl.8v4). God also created the world by His Word (Jn.1v1-3). We came into being through the Word. The blind heard the Word and saw. Merely sending the Word to the servant of that Centurion, by Jesus made him well. The Word of God is so sound that it produces changes and transformations. That is the real acid test of whatever you preach. It must produce change or conversion, whether behavioural, attitudinal, emotional, or p hyscal. May God restore sound preaching of the true Word of God on those pulpits where it has been lost. Amen.

It is an aphorism that ignorance is not an excuse in law. It is a terrible thing to be without knowledge, especially the knowledge of God. He is the Giver of all knowledge. The Bible says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom...And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches” (Proverbs 9:10, 24:4).

The passage today unveils sundry lessons. Prominent among them is the fact that it is damning for a person to be destitute of knowledge, particularly the knowledge of God. Without the right knowledge about our Creator, the Source of all good things, one will continue to wander in the direction of sin and perdition. The heart of such a person will reject God and His word, “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God...” (Romans 8:7).

There is an old story about a desert nomad who wake in the middle of the night feeling very hungry. He lit a candle and began eating dates (the fruit of the date palm tree) fro a bowl beside his bed. He took a bite from one and saw a worm in it, so, He threw it out of the tent. He bite the second date, found another worm, and threw it away also. Reasoning that he wouldn't have any date left to eat if he continued, he blew out the candle and quickly ate the rest of the dates. Wow! People are like that sometimes!
