Foreign Affairs › Israel Vs Iran War; Who Won? Winners Vs Losers. by chronique(op): 11:18am On Jun 24, 2025
The Iran vs Israel war started and ended within 12 days. How did the war start? The war started when Israel launched air attacks on Iran whilst the Iranians were involved in negotiations with the Americans. This war had been planned a long time ago and the Americans used the tactic of negotiation to distract the Iranians and allowed the Iranians to let their guards down and made sure Israel quickly launched swift surprise attacks that knocked out the top command of the Iranian military command immediately. This singular act alone, disrupted the Iranians ability to react swiftly and while all of these was going on, Iran's air defense was paralyzed due to cyber attack. After about 2 days, the Iranians managed to rejig their chain of command and started responding with their own missile attacks on Israel but a lot of damage had been done within the first 48hrs of the attack.
Iran fired lower nos of ballistic missiles and Israel had the US, France, Britain and a host of other countries, helping to shoot down Iranian missiles and drones in addition to the Israeli air defense shooting some down. Despite all of these, some missiles managed to penetrate and caused considerable damage to Israeli cities. One would wonder what the could have happened to Israel without the help of its western partners, helping to shoot down missiles and drones. They probably could have been obliterated by Iranian missiles.

One important fact to note on both sides is that as the war grew, Iranian missiles fired to Israel became fewer and Israeli air defense interception also dropped. Iran had exhausted the Israeli air defense and Israel in turn, had destroyed substantial no of Iranian missiles were they were hidden. It's safe to say both sides got quickly tired of the war with the level of destruction they both received and quickly accepted a cease fire deal. The truth is that, Israel wasn't going to last if the war had dragged on. For the first time, Isreali citizens witnessed real missiles destroying their cities. This was a conflict total different from the hezbolah, Hamas or houthi conflicts. As much as Isreali was able to establish air dominance over certain parts of Iran, they were still very vulnerable to heavy missile bombardment from Iran and it was already beginning to tell on the population.
Iranians on the other hand puffed and huffed and bragged about showing the world a response that they would never forget but their attacks didn't live up to those threats. Both countries bombed sensitive sites and civilians died but the Iranians lost more people due to the swift attack and destruction they received in the first 48 hrs of the conflict.

Are there winners in this war? Personally, I don't think so. While Israel had the upper hand in attacks, they ended up creating a new reality for their citizens. Nobody in the region has ever fired missiles into Israeli cities that could cause such level of destruction. The false sense of security Israel used to think they have is gone. Their sophisticated air defense network has shown that it can be easily overwhelmed and breached. The image of Israel being unpenetrable, has been eroded. Now, they understand the amount of risk they are facing. Hopefully, this would make them careful of initiating another war with Iran.
The Iranians on the other hand have also been dealt an image/reputation crisis. Killing the top military command of your army in 48hrs is embarrassing for a country like Iran. They would leave this conflict licking their wounds for a long time. Their nuclear program has not been destroyed. It has only been damaged and slowed down. They would need to rebuild their air defense system which has been severely degraded. Iran lost more in this conflict but showed resilience despite the initial setbacks. If the conflict had dragged on and become a war of attrition, they probably would have won it in the long run.
As for the US, they have proven time and time again, not to be trusted. Countries will remember this incident for a long time and would know to not trust the US when they call for negotiations during a conflict. This is not a good image for the Americans.

If you compare this conflict to the one between Russia and Ukraine that has lasted for 3 years now with missiles being fired across borders and cities everyday, you'd realize that the Israel vs Iran conflict is a child's place. Israel and Iran got too tired and burned out quickly and both easily accepted a ceasefire. Not even Hamas with all the destruction that has happened in Gaza, quickly accepted a ceasefire like these two.

It is clear Israel won this round, marginally. What is not certain, is what the future holds. Would Iran rush to create a nuclear bomb going forward to guarantee security for themselves? I don't know but the next six months would tell us all we need to know.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Russia has abandoned Iran by chronique(m): 9:49am On Jun 18, 2025
Whoever wrote this, is ignorant of the kind of agreement and partnerships Russia had with these countries. In the case of Syria, Russia was the reason why Assad remained in power for so long and in doing so, they were supported by Iran. When the recent conflict broke out, Russia tried as much as possible to help stabilize the front line by bombing most of the terrorists but couldn't do more than that because Assad's army had sold him out to Turkey. They kept retreating for no reason until the terrorists took total control of the country. Russia made it clear that they would not allow their troops fight if the Syrian army themselves refused to fight. When it was obvious that Assad had been betrayed, Russia had to quickly evacuate him from his country to Russia, to save him.

In the case of Iran, Russia has a strategic partnership with Iran which does not include taking military action against whoever Iran is at war with. At best, supply of weapons and air defense systems are all they can provide. This is so because Russia maintains cordial relationships with a lot of countries in the middle east and would suddenly not become an enemy to those of them in conflict with Iran. Only Belarus and North Korea, have a comprehensive military agreement with Russia that would see Russia having to take military action in defense of both countries. This is separate from the collective security defense agreement with the members of the CSTO countries.

Despite the close cooperation between China and Russia, they don't have defense agreements that would make each party, enter into military defense actions in favor of either of them.

During conflicts like this, lots of information would be put out in the media space. Some might be true, and some might be false. We only tend to report what we see from media that we think is reputable to an extent. The photos could be true, false or subject to Ai doctoring. I posted it cos I couldn't post the video where a jet that was passed on as the Israeli jet shot down, was being displayed. This photo was posted on 2 different reputable independent media platforms that have been giving us almost accurate updates on the happenings in the middle east and Ukraine.
Foreign Affairs › Wreckage Of Downed Israeli Fighter Jet. by chronique(op): 8:11am On Jun 14, 2025
As the Iran-Israeli conflict rages on with both sides counter attacking each other, pictures of the wreckage of a downed Israeli fighter jet has emerged in Iran. Iran claims to have shot down 3 jets and captured at least one pilot. Israel has denied its jet being shot down or pilot captured but this picture shows otherwise. It's of note that the info from Israel is heavily censored and as such, we might not get the actual account of the amount of destruction that has happened there even though the images shown so far shows substantial destruction on Israeli cities.

He said men, not boys. By men, I want to believe he's talking about people above 40. Truth be told, there's no man with responsibilities left and right even if he has a lot of money, that wants to be spending his energy doing 3 rounds a night. That sort of thing is what we did in our 20s. To be honest, I don't think there's anything special in a woman's body, that will make one want to do 3 rounds or more in a night when you get to that age with all the work available for you to do the next day.

You might not like Trump but he isn't totally wrong here. America has a trade deficit in the auto industry with Canada and Europe. More cars come in from Canada to America. The trade deficit is much. Cars worth over 290bn dollars are shipped into the US while cars worth over 140bn dollars are shipped out of the US. That's what Trump is trying to balance. I don't dispute the fact that he sometimes acts like an idiot though.

I agree with you that he didn't wake up one day to violate all our laws. He took his time. Your argument is basically that Fubara committed all these crimes, but Wike should be blamed. You are a joke. Crime is personal.

You have simply accepted that due to Fubara's inability to politically outsmart his opponents, he resorted to lawlessness. Unfortunately for him, there are consequences for committing crimes, something you appear to be uncomfortable with.
He wasn't called a despot by the Supreme Court of Nigeria for nothing. Under Fubara, the Supreme Court declared that there was no government in Rivers State. So what are you still defending? Are you not ashamed? Sycophants though.
Which Supreme Court? The one that has been compromised so badly by politicians like your principal? The same supreme court that has been reduced to a court where fraudulent judgements are being procured? The same supreme court that has been issuing very embarrassing judgements in the past few years now to the point that some of the lawyers are ashamed of the kind of judgements that the court pronounces? Tell us more. Every sane Nigerian knows the judiciary is a major problem today because the judges are corrupt.

Abnormal day you mean. Fubara is only gentle in the minds of clueless sycophants like you. The way he gently broke our laws in Rivers State, withheld lawmakers salaries, demolished assembly building, presented a sham budget to three people, and continued spending unappropriated funds of the state. Gentle indeed.

Fubara is a despot - The Supreme Court of Nigeria
A joke taken too far - The Court of Appeal
A tyrant - The Federal High Court

Some of you don't belong in civilised societies. Why should they not live comfortably in Rivers State? Members of another branch of government? People who think like you are stagnating this country. Tomorrow, you will start talking about saner climes.
It's very obvious that your head is not one bit correct. Did Fubara just wake up one day to do all that you have accused him of? Wasn't it the recklessness, thuggery, animal and greedy nature of your clueless toutish drunk principal Wike, that led to those events? He withheld the salaries cos the lawmakers in question had sworn an affidavit in a competent court of law that they had defected to another party, thereby ceasing to be members of the HoA as they can't maintain those seats after defecting. In saner climes, your principal Wike, and the judges that gave that verdict after being bought over by the minister, should actually be behind bars. Your principal who is known for rigging elections should not even be anywhere near the seat of power today in saner climes but because Nigeria is a psychiatric nation where criminals are allowed to lead and the people turn a blind eye, he is actually occupying a position from where he is formenting trouble in Rivers state. The fact that mad men like you support such a character, shows how bad and hopeless the country is.

This is the handwork of the US, EU, Israel and Turkey. They wanted Assad out of Syria badly and they didn't mind handing over Syria to ISIS and Al Qaeda affiliated rebels who now rule the country and have been executing minority tribes for the past few days.
Politics › Re: The 27 Members Of Rivers Assembly Are Not APC Members - Supreme Court by chronique(m): 8:49pm On Mar 05, 2025
Rivers state people should do everything to frustrate the 27 members of HoA from being even able to seat, let alone legislate anything, going forward. Since the judiciary has decided to be extremely brazenly corrupt, the people should take it upon themselves to defend the state. I will not say the exact thing that I mean but I hope those from there, know exactly what this means.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Gaza Ceasefire begins As Hamas releases names of hostages to be freed today by chronique(m): 11:32am On Jan 19, 2025
It's a good development. To be candid, both sides are weary and tired. Thousands of Palestinians have been killed and injured. Isreal has lost thousands of soldiers in this conflict too. Just yesterday, a leading Israeli newspaper published over 14,000 injuries to the Israeli army since the beginning of the war. For you to have 14k injuries and more, shows it's not been a walk in the park for them, considering their small population. Hamas has lost thousands of soldiers and have been able to recruit about same no, according to US intelligence. The Israeli economy has been going down since the conflict began, with a lot of businesses shutting down and their owners fleeing the country.
Gaza on the other hand has been turned into ruins... To be candid, they both need the cease fire badly. They also need lasting peace among themselves.

So the plane was just at the wrong place at the wrong time? But I am curious how it would have been handled if was actually a Russian plane that happened to find itself in the airspace when the exchange of drones attack occurred.
Same thing. Collateral damage. Few days ago, America shot down one of their own fighter jets and narrowly missed shooting down a second fighter jet, when they were repelling attacks from the Houthis after the US had initially launched airstrikes on Yemen.

How will air defense know it is a civilian plane filled with passengers? You think on radars, it will show as a civilian plane?
Foreign Affairs › Re: Azerbaijan Confirms Russian Missile Shot Down Plane In Kazakhstan by chronique(m):
Neoteny:
The US recently shot down its own fighter jet.

Iran shot down an airliner during a missile spat with the US.

While I'm not excusing these acts, it's not easy identifying an incoming object on primary radar in contested areas, so they usually err on the side of caution.

Planes don't appear on primary radar as precisely friend or foe, or even as a plane or what type or whose.

If Nigeria is contesting a region of the south west with, say Cameroon, leading to missile exchanges, a ping on primary radar coming in from our enemy will not be subject to musing whether it's a passenger plane or an incoming projectile. We'll probably shoot first and ask questions later... because the alternative is having a missile hit a sensitive or populated site while second-guessing.
Don't mind them. Most of them comment and reason like toddlers. The incident in question happened while Ukrainian drones were attacking Russia and the plane unfortunately was in Russian airspace at the time.

Russia's at it again, making a mess with their surface-to-air missiles. This isn't the first time they've made a blunder like this, and I reckon it won't be the last. They've got a track record of doing this.

Can you imagine if Israel had mistakenly shot down a civilian plane? There'd be outrage! The international community would be going mental, demanding answers and accountability. But when Russia does it, everyone just seems to shrug it off and say, "Oh, it's just Russia being Russia again."

And do not forget, Russia's always denying any wrongdoing, even when the evidence is staring them right in the face. It's like they think everyone is just a bunch of mugs who'll swallow whatever they're peddling.

Putin and his gang need to be held accountable for their mistakes, and the world can't just let them get away with it all the time.
Are you really for real or you are trying to be mischievous? There was a drone attack on Gronzy at exactly the same time the plane was in Russian airspace and the drone attack by the Ukrainians on the Russian city of Gronzy was being repelled. That's an accident that wil' happen a million times if drone attacks are happening against Israel or America and a civilian aircraft is in the airspace at that time.
