MORAL APOSTASY ©Shalom Daniel MORAL APOSTASY simply means the abandonment or renunciation of a set of moral or ethical principles,i.e,the disaffiliation{standing away,falling away,withdrawal ,defection} from a set of moral or ethical principles. Anyone who commits apostasy or apostatizes is known as an APOSTATE. Moral apostasy could be aptly otherwise called MORAL REGRESSION. Moral apostasy alludes to a loss of moral consciousness, an exodus from moral norms and virtues,a deliberate exhibition of AKRASIA/ACRASIA{moral backsliding}, a disregard for social and societal moral norms and virtues. Moral apostasy is like a cancer that has eaten deep into the loins and marrows of the Nigerian society_indeed a national malady. The Nigerian youths have consistently been accused of bring morally apostatic. They are changed of being perpetrators of most social evils like bad parenting,resti veness, drug abuse,examination malpractices, terrorism, thuggery,religion influence, rape,prostitution, hooliganism, high plan vandalization, money laundering, abortion, suicide,suicide bombings,cultism, occultism, child trafficking, drug trafficking, armed robbery, cyber crime (Yahoo Yahooing,G Boying,e.t.c),ritual,murder,vi olence,destruction of public properties, forgery, indecent dressing, plagiarism (intellectual theft),ethical and tribal chauvinism, piracy,embezzlement of public funds,arson,inc est, homosexuality, transgender,truancy, laziness at work,riot,protest,agitation, unguided aggressiveness, sexual harassment, election rigging, pornography, lying, adultery, fornication,e.t.c. The datum that some Nigerian youths are guilty of the above social crimes cannot be denied,the fact remains that THE ELDERS CANNOT BE TOTALLY EXONERATED from being equally capable. The high level of corruption among the elders and the leaders is a thing of concern to any morally sane person. In Nigeria today,the unintegrated neglect of African cultural and moral values and virtues as a result of preference for foreign cultures is also a factor responsible for moral apostasy in our society. Traditional African family values are seen as OLD SCHOOL MORALITY which is not in consonance with the current civilization, sophistication, Western education,science and technology. UNEMPLOYMENT may also be seen as a factor that is responsible for moral apostasy. However,this factor must not be overemphasized for two reasons; i.)It is not the case that GAINFULLY EMPLOYED Nigerians are morally upright. This is another way of saying that those in government and private employment are more often than none found to be engaged in morally apostatic acts. For instance,in Nigeria today,people talk of robbery,embezzl ement of public funds,inflated contracts,lacking of official secret,forgery,e.t.c,which are all acts of immorality. ii.)A morally upright individual, whether employed or unemployed will always maintain and preserve his/her personal integrity and therefore avoid any act that may soil his/her good name. It follows therefore that unemployment may not be A CONCLUSIVE REASON for why some people are always found to be involved in moral apostasy. PEER-GROUP INFLUENCE is just another factor.The type of company a child associates himself with cannot but have some influences(positive or negative) on him. There is also the issue of OFFICIAL NEGLECT ON THE PART OF THE GOVERNMENT at sundry levels.Youths are always brainwashed or cajoled by the cliché that YOUTHS ARE THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW,whereas the leaders of YESTERDAY are the same TODAY and they want to be there FOREVER,they have never allowed the youths to lead or express themselves.These so-called LEADERS OF TODAY have been leading the country.It's so awkward that leaders of today even plan that their biological children must succeed them as leaders of tomorrow. Another factor is the failure of government at sundry levels to stem RURAL-URBAN DRIFT of Nigerian youths as a result of lack of social infrastructures in the rural areas,thereby causing overpopulation of the few urban areas,which eventually become harbingers of crimes. Furthermore,the JUMBO SALARIES and JUMBO ALLOWANCES paid to political appointees is a source of worry to the multitude of unemployed youths who perceive such special treatment as social injustice. It is important to disclose that there is corruption within the IVORY TOWER(Academia) also. People lobby for appointments for specific levels at all cost,SOME lecturers sexually harass female students and also demand money from the male students so as to pass them. The RULE OR RUIN SYNDROME amongst Nigerian politicians is also a factor for moral apostasy in the society. ELECTION RIGGING to perpetuate oneself in a office is a form of corruption. THE JUDICIARY too accord people in the perpetration of corruption in the society. This arm of government has been severally accused of miscarriage of justice and judgement. It is also shoddy that most state governments don't spend the funds allocated to them appropriately,some wrongly spend much money on personal security. √Some Ways Out: MORAL REGENERATION is seriously needed in the country. This moral regeneration must start from and with each individual, each family and home(CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME),the Church, the Mosque, age group,as well as professional bodies. Everyone must search his/her conscience and ask salient questions as to why the country has been brought to her knees as a result of large scale of corruption in all spheres or strata of our national life. We must stop PASSING THE BUCK or SHIFTING THE BLAME on someone else. We must,as a matter of necessity and urgency,stop putting on THE HOLIER THAN THOU attitude. We must always strive to fight corrupt tendencies and injustice in the society. It is morally repulsive to adopt the principle of IF YOU CAN'T BEAT THEM,THEN JOIN THEM. This recommendation is normative. Each and every individual is the change Nigeria needs. It begins with YOU!

something that happened today

This world is wicked sha. In this christmas season, people still think of doing evil.

Just this afternoon, a friend of mine, who is a sales boy at one recharge card shop, came to our shop, telling my boss that he had been scammed.
Two guys came into the shop, and asked him to give them recharge cards worth 199k. He gave them. Then they said he should follow them to a uba close by. He did, and when they got there, they told him to go back.
It was when he got close to our shop that he said his 'senses' came back.
Immediately we heard this, my boss and some other people ran to the bank to check the guys, but there was no one there.

The worst part is that the boy's mother is a househelp, and she allowed the boy to work at that shop so he'll be able to support the family since their father left them.

My boss has gone with the other people to report to the police station.

I hope they find those guys, because...hmm...199k no be small money. Especially in this recession.
