Politics / Re: Saraki Would Have Been Chased Out Of APC Senators’ Meeting With Buhari by Chuksonyeike: 9:32pm On Jul 29, 2018
blazer2018:
And d power tussle continues...If Saraki knws what's good for him, he should just make sure he succeeds in pacifying more APC Senators to decamp, failure to do so means will lead to his ouster as Senator President.. grin

For those whom PDP are deceiving to think APC Senators needs to form 2/3 to impeach Bukola Saraki and Dogara...2/3 didn't elect him to become Senate President; he became a Senate President with 57 votes (as 51 that supported Lawan where not even at meeting where Saraki was elected) and can be impeached with 55 votes (simple majority)... Saraki and Dogara knows they are walking on a ledge after their failed attempt to garner more defectors-main reason why they went on a lengthy recess

My question is, will Saraki remain in APC until after d deadline of Primaries, which also coincides with Senate plenary resumption?

Easily, the FG can sway more Senators to reach d 55 needed to impeach Saraki...Don't let us even talk about Dogara; his case is worse.

One thing is for sure, APC won't be able to satisfy the Senators that stayed behind...neither will PDP be able to, but PDP's condition is even worse- accommodating old and new members for just one ticket will be an uphill task.

I am watching with my popcorn... grin

House of Cards

Who be dis one?55 senators will impeach your village head and not saraki.55 senators indeed. Not even 70 senators is enough to impeach Saraki

There are 2 PDP govs i've suspected, since 2015, of being too cozy with buhari. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Ben Ayade of cross rivers. Until the elections come, i doubt anybody can tell where their true loyalty lie.

I've also not heard from Akpabio since the defection season started. what's up with him? He's been too quiet when he should be fist pumping with his men.

I don't think anybody can defeat Buhari. Even Atiku might lose his state.
The difference between the votes Buhari got in the sw minus the ones GEJ got in the sw was just over 500,000 in 2015.These are verifiable facts

Which SW? You will make do with votes from only Yoruba fanatical Muslims. Don't even count on the Christians and moderate Muslims in the sw. Buhari has been a disaster economically but his tactic support for the miyetti Allah terrorist group is what finally killed his presidency. The blood shed in the middle belt cries out for vengeance.

Politics / Offa Robbery: Court Summons IGP by Chuksonyeike: 3:54pm On Jul 27, 2018
An Ilorin High Court yesterday summoned the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to appear before it on Wednesday next week to justify the continued detention of Lekan Alabi, Personal Assistant to Kwara state Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed, arrested over the April 5, 2018 armed robbery in Offa.

This is as the lead counsel to the suspect, Adelodun Ibrahim, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) bemoaned the failure of the police to release another suspect over the same incident, Alhaji Babatunde AbdulWahab the Chief of Staff to the governor, who has been granted bail by another high court in the state.

Adelodun, leading four other lawyers, told newsmen after yesterday’s proceeding that the refusal of the police to obey the court order on AbdulWahab was worrisome as it portends grave dangers to the deepening of democracy and might lead to a loss of confidence in the fairness of the police to handle such cases among the populace.

The police was not represented at yesterday’s proceeding although Adelodun told the court they had been served all the processes related to the case.
The case was brought to Ilorin following the refusal of a Federal High court in Abuja to hear it as the alleged crime was committed in Kwara state.

Alabi has been in detention since May 28, 2018 and has not been arraigned before any court of law, a development his counsel, Adelodun, argued is in contravention of the provisions of Order 4, Rules 3 and 4 of the Fundamental Rights enforcement procedure rules (2009) as well as Sections 34, 35, 36, 37, 41 And 46 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Making the order at its sitting yesterday, Justice Adebayo Yusuf said there was nothing in the constitution that allows the detention of a suspect without trial for a period beyond 24 hours where there is a court or 48 hours in environment where there is no court.

In a short ruling following the application by Adelodun for an interim bail for the suspect pending the determination of the substantive application, the court aligned with the position of the SAN but decided to allow the police another opportunity to defend its position.

“The position of the law is as stated by the leaned silk, however I’m inclined to hear from the respondent to come to court and show cause why the applicant should not be released from their custody, since they have been served the motion on notice”, the judge said adding that it is clear that the police cannot change the constitution.

Adelodun had while moving the application pointed out that the detention of the applicant for 60 days without trial is a prima facie case of a breach of his rights to liberty as enshrined in section 35 (7) of the constitution and pointed out that Section 122 of the Evidence Act empowers the court to take judicial notice of the time involved in the exchange of written addresses and affidavit by parties which can compound the suffering of the applicant.

“We are not asking the court to declare our client guilty or innocent at this stage but the police has no right to keep a suspect forever”, he said citing the decision of the Appeal Court in the case of EFCC vs Akingbola, (2015 NWLR p1470,pgh249,pp290) to buttress his submission.

Are you fucking kidding me? What numbers? APC dies not even have simple majority right now in the Senate let alone 2/3 majority needed to remove them.St the Senate currently APC has 53 senators, non-APC senatorss 54 with 2 seats vacant. Even one of the APC senators Joshua Dariye is in jail leaving the APC with just 52 against 54 non-APC senators so what numbers are you talking about?

My friend majority represents the house, it's as simple as that.
Saraki and Dogara were elected by a majority of senators and HOR members and cannot be removed unless by 2/3 of the Senate or HOR. APC currently does not even have simple majority of the Senate as non-APC members make up majority

Let's talk again when the APC secures 2/3 majority

Benue Assembly is still one assembly I don't understand their politics. Before now,APC was in minority and they produced the speaker. After gale of defections that rocked APC members in the house,PDP now have a very strong majority i.e. 22 members out of 30.These 22 members impeached the former speaker..
Why on earth would they still make APC member their speaker is devoid of reasoning

Even the new speaker will still defect. Remember even Saraki is still in APC lol

Benue, Kwara and Sokoto states May eventually be lost to PDP. That will leave APC in firm control of 22 states which is more than enough to bury PDP in 2019. Majority of the politicians defecting now won in 2015 primarily because of Buhari Tsunami and are already on their way to lose their seat having lost out in the battle to control their state's party structure without success.

Wait till PDP convention/primaries to see implosion to realize that this is just a child's play.

PMB is in a stronger position now than in 2015 when he had many odds against him.

The battle just starting.

How many states were APC in control of when they won the 2015 elections? Buhari is surely going back to daura.
