Phones / OPPO Looks To Challenge Xiaomi, Tecno, Infinix In Nigeria by chumsfortech: 12:25pm On Apr 24, 2019
There’s a potential war brewing in the smartphone market in Nigeria. OPPO, the fourth largest smartphone maker in the world is set to launch its OPPO F11 pro on April 26. The launch comes just two days after rivals Xiaomi would have launched Redmi Note 7 in the country.

Both Chinese smartphone manufacturers hope to displace Transsion Holdings, makers of Tecno, Inifinix and Itel as the leading smartphone brand in Africa.

OPPO and Xiaomi are major competitors in the Asian markets producing phones ranging from budget to premium smartphones.

After Xiaomi introduced its subbrand of budget phones Redmi, OPPO looked to counter it with Realme, a subbrand that has grown to become an independent company.

OPPO and Xiaomi filled the 4th and 5th slots with 8% and 7% share of the global smartphone market in 2018, according to Counterpoint Research.

The competition in the Asian market, especially in China and India, could continue in Nigeria that has over 21 million smartphone users.

The OPPO F11 pro, which has a motorised pop-up selfie camera, will be too pricey for most smartphone users in Nigeria at around N130,000 . According to Jumia’s Mobile report in 2018, the average price of smartphones sold on Jumia is around N36,000 ($100).

Transsion’s low pricing as has seen them sell 124 million mobile phones (both smartphones and feature phones) in 2018 across Africa, effectively having 48.7% of Africa’s mobile market.

Transsion has been selling products in over 70 countries and regions all over the world, and have established partnerships with over 2,000 dealers.

According to an IDC report, Transsion had 34.3% of the smartphone market in Africa at the end of 2018 ahead of Samsung (22.6%) and Huawei (9.9%). Transsion has focused on producing budget and mid-range phones catering to the needs of most Africans with limited disposable income. The price-friendly phones are ubiquitous with Transsion’s structured distribution across Africa, especially with offline retailers.

Xiaomi which adopts an online sales strategy for the distribution of its phones signed a deal with e-commerce site, Jumia. The online store is exclusively offering Redmi Go – Xiaomi’s latest low-end smartphone – priced at N27,750.

Transsion’s tenterhooks are deep into the Nigeria smartphone market with its low-cost phones and Africa-focused strategy and distribution, Xiaomi and OPPO have huge work to do before they can unseat the self-professed king of Africa’s mobile phone market.

Phones / Re: The OPPO Mobile Thread by chumsfortech: 11:34am On Apr 23, 2019
I am very certain that this would not be the case. They are a global brand and in all their other markets, especially their African markets; Kenya, Egypt etc they launch the same phones around the world and around the same time. Their technology is also far more advanced than all the other OEMs that we know and love. So I definitely that is what they are bringing to Nigeria.

notsochefchi:
I checked them out online I just hope that they know that 1) We are not a dumping ground for outdated unsold phones 2) Alot of us know about know about new tech, so we won't be happy to be seeing them load our market with micro usb 2.1 phones
Phones / Camera Samples From Oppo Reno "Standard Edition" Posted By Company VP by chumsfortech: 4:22pm On Apr 02, 2019
Oppo VP Brian Shen posted full-resolution camera samples from the Oppo Reno. Well, 12MP photos at least, the phone is supposed to have a 48MP main sensor (likely a Quad Bayer).

Shen says these are straight from the phone with no post-processing.

Note that Shen calls this the “Reno Standard Edition”, which may explain why we didn’t see a 10x zoom camera on the back of the leaked official images. A Snapdragon 710 powered Reno passed through AnTuTu a few days ago.

The rumors also describe a Snapdragon 855 version of the phone – that will be the one with a 10x zoom camera. Okay, there’s also talk of a 5G model, but that's likely a variant of the S855 model.

Previously, we saw photos from the Reno that showed off its zoom camera and more that showed its low-light shooting prowess. Some of these photos were posted by Shen himself.

Phones / Huawei Mate 20 X And Porsche? OPPO Did It FIRST With Lamborghini by chumsfortech: 10:40am On Mar 04, 2019
Alongside the Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the company has also revealed the massive Huawei Mate 20 X and seriously expensive Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS.

This is yet another example of smartphone companies, following in the footsteps of the original trailblazers; OPPO.
In 2018, OPPO unveiled the Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition With Superfast Charging. This made them the first ever to achieve this fit in the history of smartphones.

OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition explored a new realm of design and speed. The lined black carbon pattern under the glass body blends extreme strength with the intense texture of a precious gem to give the OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition a seductive dynamism. The suspended 3D Lamborghini logo appears to float on top of the body whichever way you look at it. The depth of the moving shadows and lights create an unparalleled vitality in the OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition.

From the body to its interior, the Lamborghini edition has a unique and classical disposition. OPPO applied the characteristics of an extreme sports car to the UI design, applying a streamlined shape with distinct edges, and together with the signature Lamborghini lighting elements, the entire UI is now more fashionable and dynamic.

OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition is loaded with SuperVOOC Flash Charge. It uses a bi-cell design equivalent to the energy from a 3400mAh battery. The maximum charging power is close to 50W, and it takes only 35 minutes to fully charge the mobile phone. SuperVOOC charges at a speed like that of a Lamborghini to once again lead the revolution in mobile phone charging.

Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 8 GB running memory, OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition offers extremely high performance. The huge storage memory of 512 GB makes data processing more efficient while the game acceleration mode optimizes fast and smooth gaming.

OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition is the world’s first panoramic designed phone, embracing the beauty of nature into a leading technology product. OPPO Find X combines two seamless pieces of glass with the front screen featuring a gorgeous panoramic view.

The Lamborghini edition also has the stealth camera feature of the Find X. The stealth 3D cameras are not just hidden but contain a number of innovative technologies; 3D Face recognition system, front camera, rear dual camera and many intricate sensors. The state of the art stealth 3D cameras redefines smartphone photography.

All the customized accessories in the OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition are designed exclusively for it. From the customized carbon texture, O-Free wireless Bluetooth headset, SuperVOOC charge head, classic bright yellow braided charging cable to the exclusive packaging box that adopts the taillight design of the Aventador "Y", OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition is a manifestation of elegance and quality in its entirety.

Phones / Oppo’s Folding Phone May Have Dodged The Galaxy Fold’s Biggest Problems by chumsfortech: 11:01am On Feb 26, 2019
The foldable phone frenzy recently hit the global smartphone market and industry giants OPPO have a folding device to display too, just like Samsung and Huawei. The Vice President of OPPO showed the folding smartphone in a series of photos online, even though OPPO did not officially showcase the device at the 2019 MWC in Barcelona.

One interesting take-home from OPPO’s folding smartphone is the fact that it appears to be an improvement on the Samsung Galaxy Fold. OPPO’s folding phone has a much better screen-to-body ratio, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which looks like a small screen tab with very large bezels. OPPO’s folding smartphone folds perfectly and cleanly, an area the Samsung Galaxy Fold falls short yet again; its hinge is a little too obvious.

We are still waiting on what OPPO’s folding phone to be named and released commercially before we can compare extensively with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X but from all indicators, it appears OPPO will be focusing more on consumer experience and might be priced around $1,500. Time will tell.

Not to forget that OPPO had a lot of interesting technology to show at this year’s MWC in Barcelona, especially in the area of photography with the 10x lossless zoom, connectivity with the 5G smartphone and the futuristic “Hologram Calling”.

The SMiFi offer is available in all cities . These offers are yet another step towards realising this goal.” Actress Dakore Egbuson-Akande unveiled as MTN Nigeria ambassador Anajemba, however, highlighted that the need for instant access to the internet, has resulted in a higher demand for data to be readily accessible at affordable rates. He said: “It is therefore believed that the new device and bonus offers will not only give customers great value for money but also reward them for their usage. The offer can be accessed via online shop at smile.com.ng, Smile shops and authorised distributors spread across the cities that they operate. For Smile Nigeria, these feats are aligned with the company’s commitment to create a differentiated value proposition and provide customer-centric services, which are aimed at adding unrivalled benefits to its teeming customers spread across major cities and towns in the country. Science/Technology / Nintendo Is Launching A New Dr. Mario Game For Smartphones Later This Year by chumsfortech: 12:13pm On Feb 01, 2019
Nintendo has announced a new entry its mobile game lineup slated for early summer of 2019: Dr. Mario World. The app will be a free-to-download puzzle game, co-developed and jointly operated with Japanese messaging app LINE and developer NHN Entertainment. There isn’t much information about the game yet, except that it will be available for both iOS and Android and, while free, will contain in-app purchases. It’s set to be released in 60 countries around the world.

Nintendo first made its foray into mobile entertainment in 2016 with Super Mario Run, a unique take on the classic platformer that infused elements of the endless runner genre. Since then, there have been some hits and some misses as the company has tried bucking traditional mobile game trends in some cases and fallen back the tried-and-true methods of Asian game development in others.

Although there are scant details, it seems that Dr. Mario World falls under the “what works” formula for mobile games: free-to-play and supported by in-app purchases. It’s also got the added benefit of being a puzzle game, which tend to be easier to play mobile than something like Fire Emblem Heroes or Dragalia Lost, Nintendo’s two more complicated mobile titles in the RPG genre.

Earlier today, Nintendo said it was delaying the release of another forthcoming smartphone game Mario Kart Tour until later this year, “in order to improve quality of the application and expand the content offerings after launch.” That said, it sounds like Nintendo fans will have plenty play on mobile come this summer.

Phones / Apple Reportedly Planning Multiple New Ipad Models, Including An Updated Ipad Mi by chumsfortech: 12:02pm On Jan 31, 2019
Apple could release at least two new iPads this year, including a cheaper version of the iPad mini, which hasn’t been updated since 2015, according to Bloomberg. The other upcoming iPad reportedly has a 10-inch screen with a faster processor and might be released as soon as this spring. That device would keep its Lightning port.

Bloomberg also reports that an upgraded iPad Pro is planned for spring 2020 and would introduce a laser-powered 3D camera to Apple devices. Apple also seems to be focusing on the iPad for the next version of iOS, iOS 13, which is reported to include iPad-specific updates, like a new home screen and tabbed apps, as well as improvements to file management.

Earlier this week, programmer Steven Troughton-Smith uncovered references to four new iPad models in the iOS 12.2 code. He speculated that one might be a mini. MacRumors also spotted Eurasian Economic Commission Database registrations for seven new iPads.

Apple most recently announced its iPad Pro with Face ID at an event in Brooklyn, New York this past October. It also includes gesture controls like the ones used on newer iPhones, although it sounds like for this next generation of iPad, Apple might debut features on the tablets.
