Phones / OPPO A92 For ₦109,900: Is It Worth It? by chumsfortech: 8:26am On Aug 11, 2020
On August 3rd, 2020, OPPO Mobile Nigeria launched the OPPO A92 smartphone in Nigeria.

After running through the specs, I find the OPPO A92 perfectly balanced with a 5000mAh battery + 18W Fast charge, display of 6.5 inches multi-touch, capacitive touch screen with 2400 x 1020 pixels (FHD+) resolution, a quad rear 48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP cameras equipped with the AI Beautification developed by OPPO, which can match different skin tones in different scenes and lighting conditions, and easily obtain your own style with a front camera of 16MP.

That is not all, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a 64-bit capable octa-core CPU, a ColorOS 7.1, based on Android 10 Operating System, a 162mm x 75.5mm x 8.9mm dimension with a 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM.

The OPPO A92 adopts 3D Quad-curve design with optimized curvature, Side Fingerprint Unlock, Magnetic Induction, Light sensor, G-sensor/Acceleration sensor and proximity sensor.

Would it not be wise to just get the OPPO A92 (8GB + 128GB) with all these amazing features?

Personally, I think it’s worth it and even more.

I used Samsung galaxy A70 until January this year, that phone was shiiit. I was using it as a backup to my iPhone X. I use Redmi note 8 pro now as a backup to iPhone 11 pro this phone is actually better than the Samsung but the UI, useless system app apps that keep sending notifications even when I disable the app notifications, ads in gallery, music player hotpot bug is making me wonder if android is cursed. I will restrict some apps from using data so that they don't load ads before I know boom ads everywhere once I check I discover that they can still use data

Phones / The Nigerian Smartphone Industry And The Effect Of Oppo’s First Year by chumsfortech: 4:11pm On Feb 17, 2020
OPPO Mobile, which is fast becoming a household name, entered into Nigeria, last year. Although it seems like a long time, giving the way almost all smartphone technology conversations always seem include OPPO Mobile, OPPO has only been in Nigeria for about a year.

In this time, we have seen an increasingly accelerated growth in the Nigerian smartphone industry. The existing smartphone brands have produced smartphones with better features, better aesthetics and most importantly have made innovations in camera.

This brings us to the question, did OPPO Mobile begin the revolution in the Nigerian smartphone industry?

Sincerely, I think they did! Upon entering into the Nigerian market, OPPO mobile launched the F11Pro. As soon as this smartphone was launched, we could all see the difference in thought, detail and camera innovation.

The F11Pro provided the first-ever bezel-less full-screen phone in the Nigerian smartphone market, which basically means that users, for the first time, were given an absolutely full screen of 6.5 inches.

I can categorically say that the F11Pro changed the game in smartphone photography, from the quality of the pictures to the selfie pop-up camera and even the brand placements of the F11Pro.

It was right after the launch of the F11Pro, that all other existing smartphone brands began to produce similar phones and increase their camera quality.

These are my thoughts, what do you think?

I feel is not that neccessary tho
Phones / OPPO Photography Contest: Is It Necessary? by chumsfortech: 1:43pm On Feb 12, 2020
As soon as we entered into the new year, OPPO announced the OPPO Redefinition Photography Contest. The Idea was designed to showcase young talented photographers in Nigeria and to connect their extraordinary creativity with the superior quality of the OPPO Reno2 smartphone.

With the increasing wave of creative photographers in Nigeria, OPPO created this avenue to not only engage these creatives but to also put the claims of the OPPO Reno 2, as the master in photography, to a test.

The competition started with a call for entries from all interested photographers on the OPPO mobile social media pages. The call for entries was widely spread as creatives from all over Nigeria, and even some other parts of Africa trooped to the website, created for the campaign, to register. Alas, the OPPO Redefinition Photography Contest was only open to Lagos-based photographers, leaving many heartbroken.

From the enthusiasm of these creatives, one can say that OPPO did hit the right note with this competition. I would have loved for the competition to be open to every interested photographer in Nigeria because there are amazing talents around us, have you seen the things that these photographers get up to?! It’s just wow! I digress, let’s stay on course.

The registration period closed and the top 20 photographers were announced. These photographers were selected based on the authenticity, creativity and ingenuity of their entries, and we all totally agree with OPPO on this. Upon selection, these finalists were equipped with the OPPO Reno 2 smartphone and trained on how to capture breath-taking images using the OPPO Reno 2 camera. This intense training was done by the OPPO brand influencer, and celebrity photographer, Anny Robert.

Now, these finalists are in the last lap and on their way to winning the grand prizes worth over 2 million naira. From where I stand, I cannot think of a better way for OPPO to solidify their positions as the industry leaders in photography and innovation than this competition.

To me, this competition not only shows OPPO as the front-liner in photography but also positions them as a brand interested in the harnessing, grooming and growing of indigenous talents in Nigeria, as an avenue to economically empower the youth and that is very commendable.

My verdict; the OPPO Photography Contest, TOTALLY NECESSARY AND WORTH IT!

Proving they are the best producing smartphone camera, OPPO has left the pop-up camera space and has introduced the "Shark Fin Selfie Camera" in the OPPO Reno 2, which comes with a 16 megapixel (MP) camera spec making selfie pic more attractive.
The four rear cameras are arranged vertically and are flush with the back. The 48-megapixel (MP) main camera has an effective way of capturing a view as natural as it is and has a sensor that is being copied into many smartphone devices launched after it. Click to view shot:

The 12MP lens uses pixel-binning to produce detailed and well-contrasted photos. The whole camera package becomes applaud-able when taking a shot with the 8MP ultra-wide camera enables close-up macro shots and also with the periscope-enabled optical zoom camera lens users can zoom 10x in images and have a real clear view of objects zoomed in. The fourth camera is a monochrome one that is used to capture portrait shots in some interesting color filters with the bokeh effect (background blur) well-done compared to other devices. The Reno2 remarkably performs well in when use in taking Night shots.

Phones / How OPPO Mobile Started "Pop-up Camera" Trend In Nigeria by chumsfortech: 1:01pm On Jan 21, 2020
Around this time in 2019, OPPO arrived in Nigeria and the buzz for the new OPPO smartphone, the OPPO F11Pro, began.
Speculations started as regards what type of phone it was, the quality, the durability and most importantly the camera. What stood out in the F11Pro was the pop-up camera. At the time, the F11Pro pop-up camera was the first of its kind in Nigeria and in Africa.

Everyone then seemed to have an opinion about the pop-up camera. Questions around the usage, to the protection of the camera, to its durability and repair were the talk of the town, and most of these fears were peddled largely by their competitors. Rather than stoop to engage with these ill-targeted jabs and banter about their new product, OPPO took the route of quality education and showcasing the efficiency and superiority of the camera.

To further solidify themselves as the trailblazer brand, the F11Pro became the FIRST EVER smartphone device to enter into the Big Brother Naija house every week. From those pictures, fans and non-fans were able to see the quality and photography prowess of the F11Pro and the stylish usage of the pop-up camera. This put an end to all OPPO slander and established the F11Pro as the King of Smartphone Cameras.

Suddenly, as expected, we have begun to see the fast-rising of the pop-up camera in the smartphones of competing brands, like the Huawei Y9, the new Infinix S5 and others. These particular brands that sponsored the OPPO banter in the beginning.
This only shows that when something is excellent, others have no choice but to copy it.

Now OPPO has left the pop-up camera space and has introduced the "Shark Fin Camera" in the OPPO Reno 2. Would we see a shift with other brands? only time will tell.
