Politics / No Mandatr To Reclaim By Peter Obi And Atiku Abubakar by Civeli(m): 7:50am On Mar 29, 2023
*2023* :

*OBI* . *ATIKU* :

*NO* *MANDATE* *TO* *RECLAIM* ,

By _Kassim_ _Afegbua_

Without prejudice to the ongoing litigations on the 2023 presidential election outcome, it is important to call Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to order. And very seriously so. The two failed candidates DO NOT have monopoly to call out Nigerians either to protest or disrupt public peace. The fact that the President-elect has chosen the path of decorum and public discipline to maintain calm and quiet should not be mistaken for weakness and meekness. If Obi calls out his Obi-dients, and the President-elect calls out his BATified, there is the likelihood that there would be a breakdown of law and order. This is why Peter Obi MUST apply sense and reason to manage the situation we find ourselves to avoid any implosion.

*Obi* *does* *not* *have* *followers* *than* *Tinubu* , the President-elect, *nor* *does* *he* *have* *a* *better* street *sense* *than* *the* *Jagaban* *himself* . A man who was a pro-democracy activist in the years of the military. That the President-elect has chosen to maintain peace and order amongst his numerous followers is a function of maturity, leadership responsibility and respect for public order in the country. If Peter Obi takes law into his hands, the necessary sanctions would apply. He needs to have a country, first and foremost, before thinking about leading it.

Talking about a mandate to reclaim makes me ponder if there is another election to be contested in due course. Or perhaps, another INEC has been born that would organise a “Peter Obi-friendly” election that would declare him winner to please his followers. Having run down INEC with all manner of foul language, some libellous and scandalous, others very profane and unguarded, I am wondering if Obi would accept another election contest under INEC as its umpire.

Having condemned INEC in such whimsical manner, derided its chairman with so much vile and bile, I am wondering if Peter Obi would accept the outcome of an election supervised by the electoral umpire, if the pendulum were to have swung in his favour. You cannot build something on nothing. How can you blame an electoral umpire on the one hand and attempt to profit from an election they conducted on the other hand, and for which you already wrote them off and called them unprintable names?

That is pure hypocrisy, self righteous indignation, another name for double standard. There is no mandate to claim anywhere. The mandate was freely and truly given to the rightful winner in line with the laws of the land. Obi and Atiku, need to search further for their own mandate, but if it was the election of February 25th, we have since crossed the threshold.

For me, there is no harm in seeking legal redress where you feel your own hands are clean and you are entering the equity platform with clean hands. In seeking redress, you must be sitting on a moral high ground such that would free yourself and your party from any accusation of incredulous conduct. The first point at issue is the fact that Obi’s candidature would be subjected to the crucible and will fail the integrity test flatly. Peter Obi was not a candidate in that election. He left the PDP when he saw that his chances at clinching the ticket had become impossible. He joined Labour Party having participated in the process of primaries of the PDP.

The new Electoral Law forbids anyone to participate in more than one primary election. The Law also requires that a copy of the Party’s register of members be domiciled with INEC not later than 30 days before the primaries. By the time Peter Obi joined the Labour Party, this threshold was already in breach. The party had submitted its register of members in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act. By that time, Peter Obi was not a member of the Labour Party, and how he emerged later as its Presidential Candidate without being its member has since become another kettle of fish. That would be an interesting angle to the whole process of jurisprudence. Interrogating the processes leading to the outcome will be another way to deepen democracy and the rule of law.

The other issue for me has to do with self examination. Has Peter Obi done a clinical analysis of his party across board to be sure the party is not culpable of the same issues he is raising in court? From some of the amateur videos that we have seen on social media, the voting process in the South East raises more posers for any discerning mind than expected. It will be good to subject the outcome of the election in the South East to forensic analysis in order to properly situate the voting pattern and the actual outcome that gave Peter Obi so much votes effortlessly. We have seen result sheets where other parties scored zero except Obi’s Labour Party.

Even in Imo state that has a Governor of the APC, and Ebonyi state, the outcome reflected similar pattern. It will make sense to interrogate and forensically analyse the results in Anambra, Abia, Enugu and Imo, to be sure they were earned by Peter Obi and his Labour Party. How possible Peter Obi scored over 534,000 votes in Anambra state, a state that is notorious for low Voters’ turn-out at elections; its recent Gubernatorial election outcome is a point of reference. By the time all those results and bogus figures are forensically examined, Peter Obi might come short of the figure already announced. Litigations on election outcomes are usually very herculean and the months ahead would be very interesting.

I have only concentrated on the Labour Party because the PDP and its beleaguered candidate contested against the run of play. The zoning principle in its party’s constitution was too sacrosanct to be ignored. The party apparatchiks wore its conspiratorial garment and twisted the whole logic of the propriety of the zoning formula. At the end of the day, Five Governors of the opposition PDP easily called G-5, pulled out their support for the PDP candidate; a rehash of 2015 scenario.

That, in itself, diminished its opportunity and chances at the election, which makes the claim of a mandate appears curious. What mandate does the PDP intend to claim? How can two candidates be laying claim to be the winner of an election they have so much complained about? While they condemned the outcome, they celebrate their Party candidates that won senatorial seats into the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly as well as the Lower Chamber.

That alone puts a question mark on the propriety of their claim. If you score the Senate and House of Representatives election high, election that followed same process, same day, same hour, and you condemn that of presidential outcome, you are at best trying to hide behind a finger. The truth of the matter is that, the victory of the President-elect and his party follows the pattern of outcome of the Senate and House of Reps. The APC has more Senators than LP and PDP. The party also has more House of Reps members than PDP and LP. Will it now be logical to input that having won more seats in both categories, the party will then lose the presidential?

The truth of the matter is that there is no mandate that was stolen. There is certainly no mandate to be reclaimed. The trajectory of the election does not support the scramble for reclaiming any mandate you never got ab initio. But there is good optics for its comic relief. At least, for the first time, I saw Atiku Abubakar doing “aluta continua” in a piece of T-shirt and Jeans. That was good optics. Unlike in the 2019 presidential election when Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ran away to Dubai, thus exposing some of us to the security goons for harassment, this time, he seems poised to do some “aluta continua” probably before he escapes again. Next time, PDP will learn to stand by its own rules and regulations, and its constitution.

When conspiracy drives a process, this is what you get. How can Alhaji Atiku Abubakar claim to be seeking electoral redress when he shot himself in the foot ab initio, allowing the G-5 to freely be on transfer market. Those who value them sought their support. Simplicita!!. Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, should bury their pride and behave like sportsmen for once by congratulating the President-elect. In the interest of the country, they should grab the opportunity given to them by the President-elect to negotiate some consensions for their parties and followers in the spirit of Government of National Unity- GNU. This to me is a better way to extract a commitment from the process than wasting precious time in the Tribunal up to the Supreme Court in wild goose chase. Certainly, there is no mandate to be claimed, not the 2023 election any way!.

Politics / Peter Obi Is Not The Candidate Of LP by Civeli(m): 8:18pm On Mar 23, 2023
*ATTENTION ALL OBI-DIENT, LETS LEARN FROM ELDERS ABOUT THE VOTE YOU CASTED*

👇

Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN⁩) :

*Peter Obi is not the candidate of LP* :

According to *Section 77 (2&3) of the electoral act 2022, Peter Obi is not a member of Labour party. As a result,he is not qualified to contest the February 25,2023 presidential election.*

*Section 77 (2) says every political party must have/maintain a register of its member in soft and hard copy.*

*77(3) says each party SHALL MAKE THAT REGISTER AVAILABLE TO INEC NOT LATER THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE THE DATE FIXED FOR PRIMARIES, CONGRESSES OR CONVENTION*.

PDP screened all presidential candidates on *April 29th,2022.* Peter Obi participated in that screening and was cleared. Obi even displayed his provisional clearance on social media.

He resigned from PDP on *Thursday May 26th,2022 to join Labour party on May 27th,2022.*

Labour party conducted her presidential primary on *May 30th, 2022* and it produced Obi after Prof. Pat Utomi voluntary withdrawal for Obi.

According to the section 77(3), *Labour party ought to have submitted the party register to INEC 30 days before the presidential primary.*

By calculation, *30 days to May,30th,2022 was April 30,2022*. As at *April 30th, 2022* when labour party had submitted the party register to INEC, Peter Obi was a member of PDP. So, Obi name was not part of those in the party comprehensive register that was submitted to INEC.

*The question is, can a candidate who is not a valid member of a political party contest for presidential election? Can a political party nominate non member to participate in presidential election?*

The tribunal will be of fireworks and shall be interesting in days to come.

*May we never labour in vain* 🙏

Culture / Bad Generation. by Civeli(m): 4:07am On Jun 27, 2020
*I AM SORRY!*

Welcome to the Generation of proud people.

A Generation that can afford to lose a 1-3 years relationship just because of, I AM SORRY !*

A Generation where a woman prefers to pack her belongings from her husband's house back to her parents house rather than say, I AM SORRY!

* A Generation where a man prefers to lose his marriage and keep his ego.

* Welcome to the Generation where everyone is right.

* A generation that never accepts to be wrong, a generation that knows it all.

* A Generation that so much prides itself yet is full of ignorance of diplomatic ways to tolerate one another.

* A Generation that prefers to argue for years rather than uttering the word, I AM SORRY !!!

* Welcome to the Generation of faults shifting.

* A Generation that claims right at all times and seek to judge others.

* A Generation that only sees the bad in others and nothing bad about themselves.

* A Generation that prefers to argue endlessly instead of saying, I AM SORRY!

* Welcome to the Generation that celebrates selfishness.

* A Generation that wants people to always apologize to them.

* A Generation of self respect. They prefer to move on rather than sort out things with their partners and friends!

* Generation that will rather part ways with their friends and divine helpers than say I AM SORRY LET'S FORGET MY WRONG DOINGS.

* A Generation so full of themselves.

* A Generation that feels too big to say, I AM SORRY!!

* Listen to the news and see how many people are stabbing their partners to death. Marriage have crashed and once happy homes now become slaughter grounds all because we feel it is not worth saying, I AM SORRY !!!

* Can you do me a favour by pronouncing, "I AM SORRY"

* How did you feel when you pronounced it?

* Did your name change?

* Did your skin colour or height change?

*Did you lose your wig or make up it?

* Did your Bank credit deplete when you said it?

* Did your blood reduce when you said it?

* Or did you contract covid -19 when you said it!

* Hmm, so why do you prefer to lose that beautiful lady /handsome guy because of pride?

*Why do you prefer to lose that wonderful relationship, friendship and spiritual helper that God has given you?

* Remember, pride goes before a fall.

* Some of us have lost our real spouses because it is hard for us to say, I AM SORRY...

Do you know "A SORRY CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER"

Just say it countless time ok
And trust me nothing bad will happen when you say it rather, there will be RECONCILIATION.
There will be peace and happiness again.
Friendship will be restored and amazing things will start happening again.
Events / Covid 19 Cause More Harm Than Good. by Civeli(m): 4:01am On Jun 27, 2020
When my wife and kids told me that they would love to go to my brother’s house to spend the weekend and kill boredom, I did not hesitate to give it the nod because I also needed some quiet time alone in the house. I was working on a proposal that was to be submitted on Monday morning via email. The insistence by the company to send it via email was because of the restriction in the movement of people over the COVID 19 issue.
My wife was a law enforcement agent and would not have any challenge navigating through the hundreds of checkpoints on the roads.
“Make sure you guys return on Monday,” I said as my wife led the kids out of the house. “I don’t want to hear stories.”
She chuckled. “There will be no stories. Please follow us to the junction so you can help me collect my clothes from the laundry man. He called to tell me that he would be waiting.”
I would not have left the house that morning if she hadn’t said that. Outside the gate where Mubarak had a kiosk, I saw three young men smoking cigarettes and engrossed in a hearty conversation.
“Ina kwana,” Mubarak greeted us cordially. “This one that everyone is dressed ceremonially, I don’t think this is a short journey.”
My wife nodded and smiled at him. “We will be back on Monday evening. Please put eyes on the house for us.”
He said he would. My wife hopped onto the driver’s seat and I sat beside her on the passenger’s side. My three kids giggled at one another as they occupied the back seat. Since her own car had had some mechanical fault and was taken away by the mechanic prior to the Corona virus pandemic, we had both been managing my own car. Carefully, she hurled the Toyota Corolla past Mubarak’s kiosk and honked. Mubarak had been a very good neighbour. He would keep an eye on the compound whenever we were not around. In return, the family had also treated him like a brother.
The laundry man was not in the shop when we got there. My wife was furious because her uniforms were the clothes she had given him to wash. I decided to go and check on Tony at home. He was a very good friend whom I had learned a lot from. His own family had travelled as soon as the virus matter began and he had been all alone. He was glad to see me. We ate the food he prepared and watched a movie together. That took a long time. By the time I returned home in the evening, Mubarak had closed because it was about to rain. The sky was thick with a storm.
I opened the main door and closed it carefully. That door needed repairs but I hadn’t bothered to fix it. If you shut it from the inside without sticking a paper in it, it would be difficult to open from the inside. Someone would have to open it from the outside or else you would remain trap inside. Several times, my wife had reminded me about it but I didn’t just care because the house was usually never empty.
Because I was alone, I was careful to put a piece of paper in it before closing it. And because I had no plans of going to bed immediately, I didn’t bother to lock it with a key. Never in my wildest imagination did I think that a burglar would break into the house that night.
I was watching the news on Aljazera when the lights went off. Soon, the rains began to hit the roof like pebbles thrown in hundreds from the sky. The wind too blew heavily like millions of giant birds flapping their wings.
I went into the bedroom and sleep found me there in no time. It was the shrill cry of a baby that woke me up later. The rain had stopped. Darkness still enveloped the sky. It was past one o’ clock in the morning.
I began to wonder what was wrong with the child that was crying. Her voice tore miserably into the silence of the dark and made me feel very uncomfortable. What could be wrong with the child? I thought as I crept out of the bed towards the window.
The cry was coming from the house adjacent mine. It was a small building without a fence. In front of it was a rickety Golf car painted in taxi colours. Since I bought the house over a year and a half before, I hadn’t bothered to know who my neighbours were.
I was still wondering why the baby was crying and disturbing the entire neighbourhood when I began to hear the sound of the front door opening. I wanted to scream but intuitively decided against that. The cry of the child continued to waft into my ears and I suddenly began to tremble. I hadn’t seen a thief in real life before. I had heard and read about how they attack people and maim or killed them just to get what they wanted.
What if this thief had a weapon? I thought miserably as I quietly docked behind my bedroom door. When the intruder began to tiptoe into the kitchen, I put my eye through the tiny opening between the door and its frame.
I heaved a sigh when I saw that he was not armed. His silhouette figure moved in the dark like a walking tortoise. The light from his small phone led him into the kitchen. I wanted to scream now but something held me still; perhaps it was the fear of the unknown. I was paranoid now like never before. What if he had a pistol in his pocket? What if he had a dagger he’d kept by the door?
I was still wondering of what to do next when the burglar came out of the kitchen carrying a black polythene bag. The cry of the child from the house adjacent mine continued to waft into my ears. I felt creepy. Even though the weather was cold, I felt sweat drop from my forehead in rivulets. My palms too were damp with sweat. I hadn’t sweated like that before. This could happen to anybody who was alone with a thief in his house; a thief who could have been in possession of lethal arms.
Suddenly, I heard him begin to hit the door and it struck me that he had just jammed the door without using the piece of paper. Certainly, he was trapped. I could hear him curse under his breath. Just then, the lights came on.
When he walked back into the kitchen and I saw that he was not armed, I came out of my hiding place.
“Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house?” I thundered feigning courage. The fear in his eyes was palpable.
“I..I..I, please sir!” his knees dropped on the tiled floor. His head was bowed and buried in shame. He could only stutter.
“You had better talk to me before I shoot you dead right now.”
He jammed his palms together and began to cry. “Sir, my name is Theophilus.I am not a thief. I have never stolen anything from anyone all my life. But if you could put your ears down right now, you’d hear the cry of a child. That’s my only daughter. She is a year and two months old. We have not eaten since yesterday morning. My wife bought akara thirty naira for her yesterday morning and that was all she’s eaten since. I haven’t worked since this corona virus thing began because of the restriction in movement. I am a taxi driver. Even if the lockdown ends today, I still won’t be able to work because I have sold my car battery and bought food to feed my family with it last month. I heard from a friend that you people left the house and won’t be back until Monday. I couldn’t stand the cry of the child anymore so I decided to burgle your house to fetch her some food from here. She won’t stop crying until she gets something to eat. My wife too is crying helplessly in the house. I just couldn’t take it. I had to become a thief if only for tonight…”
He was crying as he spoke. I took the black polythene bag from him and my heart dropped when I saw the things he had stolen from the kitchen in it; three packs of noodles, half a loaf of bread, some milk powder in and beverages.
My wallet which had about thirty five thousand naira in it was lying conspicuously on the chair.
Pointing at the wallet, I echoed; “Why didn’t you take the money or did you not see it?”
“I did,” he replied with his head still bowed. “It was the first thing I pointed the light from my phone at but I have no need of it. I came here to get something for my daughter to eat not to steal money.”
A tear fell off my eye. I held his hands and told him to get up. “You are not a thief my brother. You are just a father whose love for his only child is without blemish. From the way you speak, I am certain that you are learned. But for the situation of the country, you would not have become a taxi driver. For your daughter’s sake, I will not do anything to you. Just call your wife to come here with the child so she could open the door for us from outside. That way, she could prepare something for her here to eat.”
Tearfully, he knelt down again and began to cry. He hadn’t airtime on his phone, I gave him mine and he called the wife with it. Before she arrived with the child, I had prepared beverage for the child while I let him cook some noodles for himself and the wife.
It was my turn to cry when the woman was feeding the child who was dragging the bread from her mother as if all her life depended on it. She wolfed down her beverage with the speed of light and as soon as she had had her feel, she crept into the arms of her father and immediately fell asleep.
The parents had time to eat their noodles when the child had begun to sleep. By the time they were through, it was past two o’clock.
I gave him all the money in my wallet and told him to buy and stuck his house with food with the money. When my wife returned with the children and I told her what had happened, she cried on end.
“We are just privileged. We are just lucky.” She broke down emotionally. “We cannot be this blessed by God and watch our neighbours suffer. We must help them.”
My wife was right. I bought Theophilus a new battery for his car and gave the wife the sum of two hundred thousand naira to start a crayfish trade. Sometimes, all that we need to completely eradicate crime isn’t to keep buying guns for the police, isn’t to keep pushing people into prison but just to lend a helping hand to our neighbours. If your neighbours are happy, you’d certainly be happy too. I have come to understand not every thief caught in the act is a real thief. I am glad that we were the source of their joy today and pray that many would after reading this do what we did or do even more.
Love will certainly solve all the problems of humanity.
