Maxymilliano: What is this one saying, what does Jonathan has to do with the workings of a federal system of government or you think a federate model only comprise of the Presidency?

The truth of the matter is that power is dispatched through institutions that must take responsibility. And if you want to be objective in your critique, you must hold every leader at all levels of government responsible for the country woes, not singling out the Presidency and excusing the States and Local Govts like they are made up of saints.
But Gej said he had the magic wane to turn all these around in four years. Alas we are already in the 5th year and things are getting worse! Stop defending the indefensible.

Maxymilliano: The country operates three tiers system of government with 1 President, 36 State governors and 774 Local government areas manned by elected, and sometimes unelected officials from different political parties since the inception of the 4th republic till date.

Singling out just the Presidency, without factoring the contributions of other tiers of government to the worsened state of the economy is disingenuous on the part of the writer ...
Didn't your Jonathan know this when he was going from one state to another making empty promises that he knew inside his heart he had no plan or know how to solve or carry outhuh In a saner clime, he would have long thrown in the towel. If the office is bigger than you expected, you take the honourable path by tendering your resignation. Moreover you will never hear Obama blaming the states for not contributing their in the course of consolidatin the gains of America. Let him accept defeat and resign, after all Argentina had eight president in three weeks. So stop making lame excuses for him.

The report also says the Federal Government’s effort to reduce poverty rate by 2015 seems weak.
More Nigerians became poorer between 1996 and 2010, the African Development Bank, AfDB, has said.
In an annual report of the bank, titled African Economic Outlook, the AfDB said, “The proportion of people (Nigerians_ living below the national poverty line has worsened from 65.5 per cent in 1996 to 69.0 per cent in 2010.

Though the ruling Peoples Democratic Party is not mentioned in the report, the party has been in power in Nigeria since 1999, eleven of the 15 years covered by the AfDB report; with only the earliest four years out of the party’s administration.
The report, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja, also said the Federal Government’s effort to reduce poverty rate by 2015 seems weak.
“Nigeria’s prospect of halving poverty by 2015 seems weak.
“Poverty is higher in rural areas at 73.2 per cent than in urban area at 61.8 per cent,’’ it said.
According to the document, inequality, as measured by the GINI coefficient, rose from 0.429 in 2004 to 0.447 in 2010
GINI coefficient is a measurement of statistical dispersion developed by Italian Statisticians and Sociologist, Corrado Gini.
GINI index measures the extent of distribution of income or consumption expenditure among individuals or households
The report noted that the rate of poverty varied significantly between the urban and rural citizens and among the geographical zones, adding that 66 per cent of the rural population lives below poverty line of one dollar per day.
“Malnutrition is widespread. Rural areas and disadvantaged groups are particularly vulnerable to chronic food shortage and unbalanced nutrition.
“41 per cent of Nigerian children are stunted, nine per cent wasted or thin and 23 per cent underweight,’’ it said.
It added as at 2011 unemployment rate was at 24 per cent compared to 21 per cent in 2010, adding that the rate was high among the age bracket of between 15 and 24, and 25 to 44, at 38 per cent and 22 per cent, respectively.
The report noted that an average of 1.8 million people entered the labour market every year over the past five years. It quoted the statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics to have projected that number of entrance to the labour market yearly, would grow from three million in 2012 to about 8.5 million in 2015.
“Unemployment, particularly youth unemployment is an urgent policy priority, several agencies and plans have been established to tackle poverty and unemployment,’’ it said.
It said that this must be enhanced to ensure effective engagement of the youth for economic growth and development.
On social protection, the report said that though it was a priority in Vision 20:2020 plan, it was yet to have a comprehensive policy and budget support.
“Social protection policy has been on the agenda for some time. Several actors are involved in funding and ensuring social welfare.
“Mainly civil society groups with programmes supporting orphans, widows and people living with HIV/AIDs,’’ it said.

hief Tony Anenih, Chairman of the ruling party’s Board of Trustees(BoT) marked his 80th birthday at the International Conference Center in Abuja yesterday. The event was graced by several dignitaries including the President and the First Lady, former Heads of State (Abdulsalami Abubakar, Ibrahim Babangida, Olusegun Obasanjo), among other top businessmen and politicians.

President Jonathan extolled Chief

Anenih’s virtues in a brief remark, describing the former works minister as a nationalist whose all embracing brand of politics is worthy of emulation;

“We can learn from him because he has always been a nationalist. From him, let’s learn to sing the song of unity and use our cleavages for good and not to promote disunity. Some provocative statements have come from elder statesmen who witnessed civil war. But Tony Anenih has never made such statements, this explains why the hall is filled to capacity today,” the nation’s number one citizen cooed.

In his vote of thanks, Chief Anenih who is often referred to as ‘Mr Fix It’ in Nigeria’s political terrain, expressed his delight and appreciation that most of the country’s former Presidents graced his big day and urged them to pull ranks with the President and bury their differences in order to move the country forward.

The thanksgiving mass was officiated by Cardinal John Onaiyekan of the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Abuja.

Onlytruth: As long as APC is defeated in Anambra state (and hopefully Imo state in next guber polls) I do not care if they take heaven. An APC governor deported us from Lagos, and our APC brothers supports that.
The rest is irrelevant.
If we are serious about surviving in Nigeria, we must ensure they never win our votes.
The only thing we vote is our votes.

APC is crawling with all manner of "monkeys and baboons" -paraphrasing their leader.
Eze ndi ara! Whoever made you a leader of ndigbo in this forum must be hiding in shame smh! You are really exhibiting traits of Omata kind of leader while at the same time working for your pocket. Onlytruth: There is nothing wrong with starting from scratch in politics. Must we follow our leaders to hell if they insist on going to hell? Before now, I was not sure whether APC was good or bad for Ndigbo, but ever since Dr Ngige sided with Fashola over illegal deportations of Ndigbo from Lagos, and with the deafening silence of Okorocha over the same issue, I became convinced that APC cannot defend Igbo interest. As a matter of fact, PDP might even be better in that department.
I do not hide that I prefer APGA to unite SE in one political family/destiny, but I was open to any ideas of any party doing us good, until Fashola of APC struck!
So I say ANYTHING BUT APC! Hoohaa!
Hypocrite!

I was going through my facebook page and stumble on a mischevious post on the Ndigbo Page by a paid e rat, titled "will anambra people still vote Ngige going by his stance on the alleged deportation of Ndigbo by fashola"

Out of 300 respondents 285 said they would still vote ngige and lambasted the op to the extent that owner of the page is being threaten to take down the post or have her page deserted.

You can verify this by visiting ndigbo page on facebook. It is currently trending. Then my question is why all these jonathan paid internet poster have been making us believe Ngige is no longer loved by his people. Some people will really shed tears by November. Mark this post.
Politics › Okorocha’s Suspension: Umeh’s Only Grandstanding – Okorie by Clerverly(op): 7:22pm On Aug 05, 2013
NATIONAL Chairman of United Progressives Party, UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie has described the purported suspension of Governor Rochas Okorocha by the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, as a mere grandstanding by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh.
APGA in its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting at the weekend in Abuja had announced the suspension of governor Okorocha from the party for alleged anti-party activities.
Reacting to the suspension, Chief Okorie who was the founding father of APGA before party intrigues pushed out told Vanguard that the action of APGA was laughable as the Imo State Governor had never left anybody in doubt over his decamping to the newly registered All Progressives Congress, APC, over alleged factionalization of the party.
He said, “My reaction is that, it is an action that smirks of grandstanding and cheap publicity because Rochas okorocha has not left anybody in doubt that as to moving on to another party. Because of one of the reasons for decamping, the law allows which is fractionalization and nobody can doubt that APGA is not factionalized.
“He has gone out with all his people. Umeh’s reaction is based on the use of APGA logo to depict the faction of APGA that joined the APC. I wonder what he intends to achieve by that, I do not see anything, he has added no mileage, it appears he enjoys putting APGA on the pages of newspapers for wrong reason.
“I don’t see Rochas Okorocha side not replying to him. May be that is what he enjoys, you are suspending somebody that has already established in another party, all his people have taken position in APC Rochas Okoracha’s man is the Vice Chairman of APC in the whole South East.
“Rochas Okorocha’s man is the National Organizing Secretary of APC, Rochas Okorocha’s man is the Deputy Chairman of APC in the whole of Southern part of Nigeria, so if they are so entrenched in APC, what is the meaning of the suspension, to me it is most unintelligence and inelegance, just grandstanding,” he stated.
Okorie who noted that the government of Imo State had gone to APC, said that there was no genuine reconciliation in APGA as claimed recently by the party chairman Umeh and the State Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi/
He said, “The point is that the government of Imo state is now APC government. Is there a reconciliation of the contending forces in APGA or is there a reconciliation between two kinsmen Obi and Umeh and I do not know how the media will think that the peace move between Obi and Umeh is equal to reconciliation of the leadership crisis in APGA without withdrawing the matters in court, without taking Maxi Okwu and his executives along.
“These are the people who are holding to the claim that INEC monitored the convention that threw them up, so those matters are in Supreme Court, so how do you reconcile when these issues are still in court, it is all deceit.
“Let me tell you, the fact is that, any person that is nominated by Umeh, his nomination will remain contentious until the matters in court are resolved and all the political parties contesting for election in Anambra state will challenge that nomination for bringing to contest with them somebody that was not validly nominated, once nomination is over Umeh and his party should expect litigation from other parties including UPP.
“APGA has no more base in Imo state, it has to start from the very scratch because the government that was supposed to be APGA government is now APC government. APC can count the number of governors it has, it has increased by one that is the fact of the situation on ground. APC government has increased by one.
“APGA government has reduced by one and so in a state like that, whatever is left of APGA will start from the scratch and then, they are going to start from the backdrop of the party that has sold out on those who gave it mandate because people of Imo state did not troop out to go and vote for APC so the APGA now is seriously encumbered in Imo state because you have to explain the apparent sell out before you will begin to ask the people of Imo to consider you for subsequent elections,” he stated

Politics › President Jonathan Lied On Awka Uninterrupted Electricity Claim, Residents Say by Clerverly(op): 8:35am On Aug 04, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan’s recent Facebook claim about three weeks of uninterrupted electricity supply to Anambra state capital, Awka, is nowhere near the reality, residents of the town have told PREMIUM TIMES in a quick rebuttal that again casts doubt on the president’s public claim about his achievements.

Residents from several streets of Awka said while power supply had improved in their areas in the past couple of weeks, the difference was fairly minimal to be regarded as “steady” since interruptions have continued.

“They give us light mostly in the day time and take it during the night when we need it most,” said Mike Nweke, who lives along Zik Avenue, and runs a shop at Eke Awka market. “In spite of the fact that our NEPA credit finishes within days of recharge. There is nothing to celebrate.

Four other residents of the area corroborated that claim of improved power supply over the past three weeks, but they all added that the usual power failure persisted.

At Ifite Awka, mostly habited by students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, residents said the only difference they witnessed in recent weeks has been the stoppage of the power rationing called “One day ON, one day OFF”, which makes light available to different areas on alternate days.

“Before they use to share light for us and that made us to be having light once in two days but now that has become history because they are now giving us light everyday though the power supply has never been stable as claimed by the president,” one student said.

The responses, randomly drawn from several parts of Awka, particularly refuted the president’s claim about “uninterrupted public power” in a Facebook comment on Thursday.

In the unusual post, which the president said was meant to “drown out the unacceptable negatives in the polity”, Mr. Jonathan highlighted the appointment by telephone company, MTN, of its first Nigerian Chief Executive, as the proceed of his administration’s resolve to build local content; and spoke of steady electricity in Awka, and the registration of the new party, All Progressives Congress, as a reflection of the success of his government’s reforms.

“The second occurrence is the celebration by the city of Awka, in Anambra state of three weeks of uninterrupted public power supply and counting,” Mr. Jonathan wrote. “More cities will soon be able to have such celebrations because the Roadmap to Power Sector Reforms is having the desired effects with almost all of Nigeria’s electricity Distribution companies (Discos) and Generating companies (Gencos) now in private hands as I promised on the 26th of August 2010 in Lagos when I launched the Power Roadmap.”

For a president whose past claims on achievements, particularly about power supply had all turned out fictitious, and were roundly refuted by Nigerians, his remarks about Anambra state immediately stirred swift reactions from Nigerians.

Readers who responded to PREMIUM TIMES’ call on Facebook, asking Awka residents for response, provided mixed opinion of the situation in the commercial state.

While a majority denied the president’s claim, a few admitted the situation had improved.

A respondent, Oraneto Ndubuisi, affirmed, “For real, four weeks now”, while another, Toby Obaji, interjected, “Wait a minute, are you guys trying to say three hours or three weeks. Well, if its three hours …yes, sometimes. If you actually mean three weeks, then it’s not this Awka, might be the Awka in Japan.”

Other residents from different parts of the town, interviewed by our reporter in Awka, returned a verdict that largely disclaimed Mr. Jonathan’s.

At Ogechuckwu Street, five people interviewed said there was no difference in power supply in the area over the past three months because they still used generators at night.

At Emma-Nnaemeka Street, residents also denied there was stable power supply in the area as claimed by the president.

“Enough of that lie and those people presenting those lies to Mr. President should stop it,” one man, visibly angered by the question, said.

In Akoyele Street, one resident who gave his name as Uche, said although an equipment was stolen from the transformer in his neighbourhood weeks ago, resulting in total outage in the area, the situation has only improved to the previous unstable power after residents contributed money to replace the equipment.

“Light no dey my house now as I dey talk to you,” he said in pidgin English.

At Ichida Street, two residents there dismissed the president’s claim as political rhetoric that sought to woo supporters ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

“I think this is a campaign style of the PDP, they want to use lies to capture Anambra in the forthcoming election and we shall resist them,” a resident who refused to disclose his name said.

Those who spoke at Araba Street, said although they had witnessed a little improvement in power supply over the past few weeks, the power was never stable. One resident in the area further said that while power in the street improved minimally in the past three months, it was “nothing to celebrate”.

A similar reaction came from Arthur Eze Avenue, where locals chided the president for often failing to verify information passed to him.

“Oga Goodluck should always cross-check every information given to him before announcing them to the public. He should stop betraying our trust in him,” one residents who gave her name as Florence said.

At Dike Street, a resident who gave his name as Nzekwe Echezona, gave a similar response about improved but never stable electricity.
