The winning margin in Rivers and Lagos state is supposed to be wider than this in favour of Labour Party.

Dear Nyesom Wike and Sim Fubara, we will meet at the governorship elections soon.

unfortunately from reports I am getting PDP got good votes there o...more than the 25% sef. Even APC had a good outing in some of the states. I was expecting the SE and SS to be the new KKK. Let's just hope there were irregularities and the gist is false.

The irregularities concocted in the SS by people like Wike and the rest might give the winning edge to Atiku because if Tinubu fails to get chunk votes from the north….there is no way he’ll best Atiku in the SS and SE

Infact everything in America is more expensive than a barrel of oil

They're paying people to buy oil... WHAT!!!!!

Coronavirus should come and go pls
Foreign Affairs / Re: American Oil Crashes To $0 Per Barrel by Cletus77(m): 10:40pm On Apr 20, 2020
US oil prices turned negative Monday for the first time ever as the great oil crash of 2020 took a bizarre turn.

Crude finished at -$37.63 a barrel, marking the only time it has gone below zero since oil futures began trading on NYMEX in 1983.
The historic collapse shows just how terribly oversupplied the oil market has become. There are real fears that the world will soon run out of places to store barrels.

Producers are essentially PAYING to get rid of their barrels.
Part of the reason oil was so volatile is that trading volume was very light in the May contract, which expires Tuesday. That low liquidity set the stage for the unusual scenario of negative prices.

Although the May contract turned negative, the June contract was still trading above $20 a barrel. Brent crude, the world benchmark, traded above $25.

Crude finished at $18.27 a barrel on Friday, meaning they collapsed by more than 200% in one day.

US stocks also finished lower on Monday, amid a historic selloff in the oil market.

US oil futures settled in negative territory for the first time in history as demand for the commodity remains thin and storage capacity in the US is at its limit. The May futures contract is also about to expire, which made trading more erratic.

The Dow closed 2.4%, or 592 points, lower. It was the worst day for the index since April 1.
The S&P 500 finished down 1.8%.
The Nasdaq Composite closed 1% lower.

Foreign Affairs / American Oil Crashes To $0 Per Barrel by Cletus77(m): 10:36pm On Apr 20, 2020
The price of US oil has turned negative for the first time in history.

That means oil producers are paying buyers to take the commodity off their hands over fears that storage capacity could run out in May
.

Demand for oil has all but dried up as lockdowns across the world have kept people inside.

As a result, oil firms have resorted to renting tankers to store the surplus supply and that has forced the price of US oil into negative territory.

The price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark for US oil, fell as low as minus $37.63 a barrel.

The severe drop on Monday was driven in part by a technicality of the global oil market. Oil is traded on its future price and May futures contracts are due to expire on Tuesday. Traders were keen to offload those holdings to avoid having to take delivery of the oil and incur storage costs.

Oil price chart from 2000 to 2020
June prices for WTI were also down, but trading at above $20 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent Crude - the benchmark used by Europe and the rest of the world - was also weaker, down 8.9% at less than $26 a barrel.

The oil industry has been struggling with both tumbling demand and in-fighting among producers about reducing output.

Earlier this month, Opec members and its allies finally agreed a record deal to slash global output by about 10%. The deal was the largest cut in oil production ever to have been agreed.

Health / Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Says He Tested Negative For Coronavirus by Cletus77(m): 6:15pm On Mar 13, 2020
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has tested negative for coronavirus, according to a post on his Facebook page on Friday.

The post came after a prominent Brazilian newspaper reported that the Brazilian leader had tested positive without citing its source.

Bolsonaro's son, Eduardo, also told Fox News that "the test is negative".

Bolsonaro had been tested after his communications secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, was diagnosed with the coronavirus on Thursday following a trip to Florida where both met US President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. The news of Wajngarten's diagnosis raised questions about whether Trump and Pence were being tested.

The White House said on Thursday neither Trump nor Pence had been tested for COVID-19 because they were not showing symptoms and had limited interactions with the Brazilian aide.

Health / Coronavirus Confirmed As Pandemic By World Health Organization by Cletus77(m): 7:33pm On Mar 11, 2020
The coronavirus outbreak has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the number of cases outside China had increased 13-fold over the past two weeks.

He said he was "deeply concerned" by "alarming levels of inaction" over the virus.

A pandemic is a disease that is spreading in multiple countries around the world at the same time.

However, Dr Tedros said that calling the outbreak a pandemic did not mean the WHO was changing its advice about what countries should do.
He called on governments to change the course of the outbreak by taking "urgent and aggressive action".

"Several countries have demonstrated that this virus can be suppressed and controlled," he said.

"The challenge for many countries who are now dealing with large clusters or community transmission is not whether they can do the same - it's whether they will."

Governments had to "strike a fine balance between protecting health, minimising disruption and respecting human rights".

"We're in this together to do the right things with calm and protect the citizens of the world. It's doable," he said.

Health / British Health Minister Tests Positive To Coronavirus by Cletus77(m): 12:13am On Mar 11, 2020
Health minister and Conservative MP Nadine Dorries says she has tested positive for coronavirus.

She said in a statement that as soon as she was informed she took all the advised precautions and had been self-isolating at home.

It comes as a sixth person died from the virus in the UK, which has a total of 382 cases.

The latest person to die was a man in his early 80s who had underlying health conditions.

GPs are warning that routine appointments at surgeries may have to stop as the number of coronavirus cases rises.

The British Medical Association said routine monitoring of long-term health conditions might have to stop to enable GPs to "focus on the sickest patients".

Ms Dorries said in a statement she took "all the advised precautions" as soon as she was informed of her diagnosis.

She added: "Public Health England has started detailed contact tracing and the department and my parliamentary office are closely following their advice."

Health Secretary Matt Hancock tweeted that she had "done the right thing" by self-isolating at home and wished "her well as she recovers".

He added: "I understand why people are worried about this disease. We will do all we can to keep people safe, based on the best possible science."

Health / Coronavirus: Italy Extends Emergency Measures Nationwide. by Cletus77(m): 5:53pm On Mar 10, 2020
Italy has extended its emergency coronavirus measures, which include travel restrictions and a ban on public gatherings, to the entire country.

On Monday, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte ordered people to stay home and seek permission for essential travel.

He said the measures were designed to protect the most vulnerable. "There is no more time," he said in a TV address.

Italy's coronavirus death toll jumped from 366 to 463 on Monday. It is the worst-hit country after China.

The number of confirmed infection also increased by 24% from Sunday, official figures showed.

Cases of the virus have been confirmed in all 20 Italian regions.

Mr Conte described the measures as "I stay home" - with people forbidden to gather in public. "No more nightlife; we can't allow this anymore since they are occasions for contagion," he said.

All sporting events - including football matches - are suspended nationwide. Schools and universities will remain closed until 3 April.

The government said only those with a valid work or family reason that cannot be postponed will be allowed to travel.

Passengers departing on flights will have to justify themselves, as will all those who arrive by plane.

There are controls at train stations to check the temperatures of passengers. Cruise ships are also forbidden to dock at various ports.

Health / Coronavirus: Democratic Republic Of Congo Confirms First Case by Cletus77(m): 5:34pm On Mar 10, 2020
(Reuters) - Democratic Republic of Congo confirmed its first case of coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa hit by the epidemic to seven.

The patient is a Belgian citizen who had been in Congo for several days. He and others with him have been placed in quarantine, Congolese health minister Eteni Longondo said on Radio Okapi.

"What I'd like to tell people is not to panic," he said.

The outbreak has largely spared sub-Saharan Africa so far, but since February a few cases have been registered in Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Cameroon, Togo and Burkina Faso. North African countries have registered dozens of cases.

Congo's first coronavirus case comes as its long-running Ebola epidemic appears to be on the wane. The last patient being treated for Ebola was discharged on March 3 - the first time there have been no active cases since the outbreak was declared in August 2018.

Health / Coronavirus: "We Are In Uncharted Territory" - Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO by Cletus77(m): 8:21am On Mar 03, 2020
Hong Kong(CNN) The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said that public health officials are operating in "uncharted territory" as they combat the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has infected more than 90,000 people across 73 countries and territories as of Monday evening.

The virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica since it was first identified in December last year in the central Chinese city of Wuhan. Medical workers are now battling deadly outbreak clusters in South Korea, Iran and Italy, while other countries are working furiously to avoid a similar fate by readying public health authorities, alerting their citizens and enacting travel restrictions to affected areas.
To date, there have been 172 deaths reported outside mainland China, raising the global death toll to 3,115.

Several nations that have seen cases are putting in place measures to limit the virus' spread: closing schools, encouraging remote work and canceling or scaling back public events, just to name a few.

The WHO has so far held off on classifying the incident as a global pandemic, but has warned it is a possibility in the near future.

"We have never before seen a respiratory pathogen that is capable of community transmission, but which can also be contained with the right measures," said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the global health watchdog.

Investors are also bracing for the possibility that the spread of COVID-19, as the virus is formally known, could throw the global economy into recession. Its spread in China, the world's second-biggest economy and a major manufacturer, was followed by factory closures that severely impacted global supply chains.
At least 80,151 cases have been identified in mainland China to date, killing 2,943 people.
However, the economic effects of the virus now go beyond China, as the virus is impacting business operations and consumer behavior worldwide. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development warned Monday that the virus plunged the world economy into its worst downturn since the 2009 global financial crisis and that growth could be cut in half if the outbreak continues unabated.

Health / Elbow-bumps And Footshakes: The New Coronavirus Etiquette? by Cletus77(m): 8:05am On Mar 03, 2020
Coronavirus is changing social interaction, especially in the western world. Handshakes, cheek-kisses, hugs – the everyday greetings ingrained in our culture – are not as welcome as they used to be.

When the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, extended her hand to her interior minister, Horst Seehofer, at a meeting on Monday, he refused her handshake and waved her away.

In Italy, Angelo Borrelli, the country’s special commissioner for coronavirus, has suggested that Italians’ demonstrative nature could be contributing to the virus’s spread, urging citizens to be “a bit less expansive”.

Likewise in France, where the health minister, Olivier Véran, has advised people to cut back on hugs and kisses, though the French president, Emmanual Macron, was seen to double-cheek kiss the Italian prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, twice during a summit in Naples on Thursday.

In the UK, Public Health England has not gone quite as far. When Prof Paul Cosford, emeritus medical director for PHE, arrived at Radio 4’s Today studios on Monday, presenter Mishal Husain asked if it was OK to shake hands, assuming he would say it was not.

But Cosford was quite happy to, he said – though perhaps not in the future. “We do need to get to a point where we reduce social contact if we see more widespread infection,” he said. “At the moment, we’re in the position [that] we need to continue life as normal, but we need to be prepared for the actions that we may need to take.”

In the meantime, good hand hygiene is the key message.

“Science says shaking hands is disgusting,” Nicky Milner, director of medical education at Anglia Ruskin university told the Guardian. She pointed to research showing on average we carry 3,200 bacteria from 150 different species on our hands. On average, we will shake hands 15,000 times in our life time, she said.

A handshake transfers twice the amount of bacteria compared to the quicker fist-pump or high-five. “If you’re shaking hands, you tend to put your palms together and wrap your fingers around. Whereas, when you minimise the contact between the skin, you have a small surface area in which there are micro-organisms, so transfer fewer. It’s all probability,” she said.

The Japanese bow, the Thai “way, where palms are pressed together in prayer-like fashion, are all healthier”, she added. “In Ethiopia, they touch your elbow, then you bang opposite shoulders.”

Yet, she cannot see such greetings becoming commonplace here in the UK. “The challenge would be the cultural shift.”

“In the UK, the handshake is formal. It’s professional. It’s used in meeting and greeting. It closes business. It’s such a powerful procedure that we perform. It’s not just about saying hello. So that brings us back to good hand hygiene.”

The World Health Organization’s director of pandemic disease, Sylvie Brand, meanwhile, has endorsed the elbow bump, footshakes, waves and the “wai” as safer alternatives to shaking hands.

Health / Some Coronavirus Patients Gave Wrong Information - Lagos Commissioner For Health by Cletus77(m): 9:29pm On Mar 02, 2020
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said some persons suspected to have contacts with the Italian that brought coronavirus to Nigeria gave false information.

He was quoted as saying this in a press statement by the Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Health, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, on Monday.

According to the statement, Abayomi spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting with Chairmen of Local Governments, Community Development Associations and Medical Officers of Health of the 57 LGAs and LCDAs.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Abayomi said the contact list of the index case of COVID-19 in Lagos is over 100 and increasing daily.

He explained that the contact being traced includes 159 passengers on the aircraft, six people who came in contact with index case at the hotel, 35 people at the factory, two drivers and an ambulance driver.

He said, “We have managed to identify all of these people except some of those people on the aircraft who have either gone back to Europe, other states or other countries or gave false information on their forms.

“We are unrelenting in our quest and we are still trying to find the remaining passengers on that aircraft; and every day, we are finding more. Our contact list now is over 100 and it is increasing every day.”

Meanwhile, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed that two persons suspected and tested for Corona Virus Disease have tested negative to the infection.

“We have been testing a few suspicious cases. In fact, we tested two yesterday, they were both negative and both from Ogun State. We are very much on the lookout; our index of suspicion is very high and we have alerted all our medical facilities both public and private to be cautious about anybody who presents with fever, cough, cold, difficulty in breathing, diarrhea and body pains,” he added.
