Crime / Government Takes Over Prosecution Of Corps Member Who Allegedly Raped Student by Clevite(m): 11:33am On May 13
Government takes over prosecution of Kwara corps member who allegedly raped varsity student

By: The Point and Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

The Osun State Ministry of Justice has taken over the prosecution of the case of a 29-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps, Fasade Ezekiel Adesoji who allegedly raped a female undergraduate of Osun State University, Osogbo.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Osun State Police Command had arraigned Adesoji, who is currently observing his one year NYSC in Kwara State for allegedly forcing the student to bed when he left Ilorin where he is serving to Osogbo.

Adesoji was arrested by the Police in February 2024 after allegedly committing the crime.

The female victim (name withheld) was said to have gone to Soji’s room behind Nawarudeen Primary School, Oke-Baale area, Osogbo Local Government Area of the state to put some fruits in his fridge when Adesoji, who is her neighbour, forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The Point gathered that the student lives off-campus and had gone to Adesoji’s apartment with her friend on the night of Friday, February 16, 2024.

After the two ladies got into the suspect’s place, the victim’s friend reportedly left the room immediately after plugging her phone to attend to other things but before she could return to check her phone, her friend had been screaming in the room as Adesoji, also known as SOJ, allegedly raped her twice.

The corps member, who was said to be serving in Ilorin, Kwara State, but often visits Osogbo, allegedly threatened to kill the victim with a bottle if she fails to allow him satisfy his sexual desire.

It was further learnt that the suspect refused to open his door when neighbours were banging it repeatedly and trying to rescue the female undergraduate.

According to a witness account, it was after a vigilante officer in the area visited the defendant’s apartment with a gun and shot into the air, that the suspect opened the door and freed the victim in the wee hours of Saturday, February 17.

A team of policemen later arrived at the scene and arrested Soji.

The police docked Adesoji, a Microbiology graduate of Igbajo Polytechnic on four count-charges bordering on rape, indecent assault and unlawful detainment of the victim at an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court.

The charge indicated that Adesoji allegedly raped the lady on the 16th day of February, 2024 at about 9:00pm at Oke-Baale area, Osogbo, indecently assaulted her and also detained her against her consent with purpose of forcefully having her carnal knowledge.

According to the charge, the accused person committed offences contrary to and punishable under Section 2(2) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of Osun State 2021; Section 32 of the Child’s Rights Laws of Osun State 2007; Sections 360 and 361 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

A perusal of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law reveals that a convicted rapist risks life imprisonment.

However, Adesoji pleaded not guilty to all the counts. His counsel, L. O. Akinwande prayed the court to admit him to bail and assured that he would make available reliable sureties. He informed the court that Adesoji is a serving Corps member in Kwara State.

The prosecution did not object to the bail application.

Magistrate Oyindamola Daramola had granted the accused bail on the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the same amount.

She said one of the sureties must be a homeowner while the other must be a biological parent or sibling of the defendant who must bear the same surname with him.

When the matter was mentioned for hearing recently, a counsel from the Osun State Ministry of Justice, Clement Tanimose announced to the court that the ministry would be taking over the matter from the police for prosecution.

Consequently, Magistrate Daramola ordered that the police should hand over the case file to the ministry.

Rope-the-dope technique as seen in boxing.
If they had gone home on 3 points, if Morocco's win against Zambia had not given them that life line, you would have known they were not 'doping any dope'.

You don't seems to get it, where I am coming from.
Playing against Ivory Coast again is not a good sign......it is better we play against another country South Africa, Cape verde or Mali.
The only team it is possible for us to meet in the final is Mali. We can only meet either South Africa or Cape Verde in the semi final.

After we played ivory Coast 1.0, don't forget they were embarrassed by Equatorial Guinea 4.0... while Cameroon were played like kids against Senegal.... those are the 2 teams we are bragging about ... Angola will be our first real test.... don't forget we dint top the group cos we cudnt beat Equatorial Guinea and even struggled against Guinea Bissau
So, Nigeria is not Angola's first real test, abi?

U really don't understand how football tournaments work... beating ivory Coast don't mean we can beat any of those teams playing now .... can't u see their game play and tactics have changed from the one we played
But Angola beating every other team means they can beat Nigeria, right? What about Nigeria, haven't our game play and tactics improved on the one we played with Cote d'Ivoire too?

For peace to reign in kano I will prefer the supreme court to reaffirm the current governor as the winner of the election. Apcs candidate is very very unpopular in kano, he has accepted defeat by even calling and congratulating the current governor, nnpp has the most vote count ( even if they claim that some ballot papers were not stamped, then whose fault is it? Inec of course. So the supreme Court should just do the needful abeg we need peace at this time of our lives.
APC's candidate is unpopular, yet he could garner about 900 thousand out of about 2 million votes cast in the election. Do you know what it means to be unpopular in an election?

The misinformation started being peddled by so-called social media influencers as soon as the results of the Kogi Governorship Election were being uploaded to IREV.

Total accredited figures are not uploaded with Form EC8A recorded results until BVAS devices have been synchronized. This was the kind of 'discrepancy' APC thought they had found immediately after the Osun Governorship election in 2022 that made them hurriedly applied for IRev Report and tendered it at the Tribunal to establish over-voting. Osun Tribunal nullified the Governor's election based on the IRev Report obtained by APC when BVAS devices had not yet been synchronized. The Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court reversed the decision.

Politics / INEC Denies Alleged Manipulation Of Data On IREV In Kogi Election by Clevite(m): 5:48pm On Nov 14, 2023
PRESS RELEASE

ALLEGED MANIPULATION OF ACCREDITATION DATA ON IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) attention has been drawn to some media reports alleging that the Commission was tampering with the accredited figures of voters in the Kogi Governorship Election results uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal. However, these reports are unfounded.

For the avoidance of doubt, the most accurate and up-to-date Voters’ Accreditation Data is available in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which is used for the authentication and accreditation of registered voters at various polling units on election day. It automatically retains the accreditation data of all voters.

The BVAS is designed to primarily work offline without Internet connectivity, which facilitates faster and seamless authentication and accreditation experience for voters. However, when its application is active or in use, depending on the strength of its connection to the Internet, the BVAS automatically exports the accreditation data to the Accreditation Backend System (ABS).

This exportation of data does not happen when the device’s application is inactive or when the internet connectivity is poor. The same experience applies to a situation where more than one BVAS gadget is used at a polling unit with more than 1,250 registered voters. This could be compared to a situation when poor network services delay the delivery of an SMS sent from one individual to another through a mobile phone.

At the close of poll, Presiding Officers are expected to press the data exportation button on the BVAS to ensure that all the accreditation data are exported to the ABS. This process, referred to as synchronization and which is ongoing, could lead to changes in the accreditation figures as more data flow in to update the existing figures. This is the basis for the caveat provided on the IReV portal, regarding the accreditation figures. The accreditation data cannot be changed on the BVAS after the close of poll.

The public should disregard the misleading report and misinformation.
