Entertainers and sports people are still better than our kleptocratic political billionaires and also better than Dangote whose business empire was built through political patronage. |

AlderFadington: Why do keep trying to be sensitive?
Never said that there were "no Hausa christians". Just pointed out that these were recent converts, mostly from pagan populations and that their population is too significant (i gave them 0.5%, as you know) for you to speak of their impact or subscription to culture. And like he pointed out, in every other way they behave they act just like every one else.
It's like people asking about Irish culture and you start asking, the Muslims or the christians? Culture is culture and in this case those who don't fit into the narrative do not have enough away to have any significant effect as to what they as a people are. You pointing out one or two examples here and there doesn't make sense at all, if anything the rarity strangled your argument. I don't have any issue with Hausa culture or any culture. In fact I appreciate and respect different cultures and the Hausa culture is a part of me. What even made me to comment on that thread was when I saw your comment claiming that there are no Hausa Christians and that you've never even heard or met one. |

Baaballiyo: Hmmm, What a funny and controversial thread. I see people love to put blame/s upon others. In this case(thread) 'Islam and Fulani' are the culprits. OP is surely not Hausa but to some extent a learned of Hausa history.
His major blunder: BORI.
Bori is not a religion (like Islam or Christianity) is a secret cult. Hausa Pagans worship a Female Goddess call "Tsumburbura" and presently I doubt if 1% of Hausa natives worship her. I believe 90-95% of native Hausa people are Muslims and 3-5% Christians, 2-3% others. Some people commenting here were arguing with me in another thread that there are no Hausa Christians. That they've never met or heard of it. And these guys claim they are Hausa from the north. I decided to let them be when I discovered that they are being mischievous due to religious sentiment. |

DevdanSanguine: But he's not Hausa is He? Do you call somebody Yoruba Muslim when he is not Yoruba? Dr. Barau Dikko was Hausa man who converted to Christianity. If you are from Kaduna State you should know this but if you don't please Google it. |
Culture › Re: Please Do Hausa Tribe Practice Their Culture Or Only Islamic Laws Rule Them. by Cocolatti(m): 8:12pm On Dec 26, 2017 |
DevdanSanguine: Ikara is another non hausa LG. Both Barau and Dikko are fulani names so he is also not hausa so this just sums up your confusion. I also doubt hes a christian BTW but like i said even if he is... Go and get your sources right. Barau Dikko not a Christian? I think it is you that need to go and get your sources right. You can even Google it right now. |

AlderFadington: And how many pagan Hausas were there? About 0.5 percent of our population and i repeat they have zero effect on what is Hausa identity so stop pointing to them when trying to explain Hausa culture. I am not talking about Hausa identity here. It is your denial of the existence of Hausa Christians that is the issue for me here. The first Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Ishaya Audu is a Hausa christian from Ikara LG of Kaduna State. Also the Late Dr. Barau Dikko who was the first medical doctor in Northern Nigeria and personal physician to the Late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello was a Hausa Christian. The existence of Hausa Christians is a fact that your religious sentiment cannot suppress. |
Culture › Re: Please Do Hausa Tribe Practice Their Culture Or Only Islamic Laws Rule Them. by Cocolatti(m): 5:17pm On Dec 23, 2017 |
AlderFadington: Lol! There are no Hausas in all those LGs you mentioned. As far as kano and katsina, again I know pagans but not Christians. This is the fact, I don't know what lies people are feeding you but Hausas have almost unanimously never subscribed to Christianity except in the case of the very very few recent Muslim converts and pagan converts. Even so their numbers are so minimal you cant point to them when speaking about the whole. Nobody is feeding me any lies because am from Kaduna State, grew up in Zaria and also lived for many years in Zamfara state. Even now am living in the city of Kaduna. You claim that the inhabitants of those LGs I mentioned are not Hausas? Please kindly explain this because am beginning to doubt if truly you are Hausa and living in the north. The pagan Hausas are the Hausas who did not accept Islam and are called 'Maguzawa' by the rest of their hausa kin. But majority of them today are christian converts, hence the name Hausa Christians. This is fact not hearsay. |
Culture › Re: Please Do Hausa Tribe Practice Their Culture Or Only Islamic Laws Rule Them. by Cocolatti(m): 4:47pm On Dec 23, 2017 |
RedboneSmith: It is very possible that some of them at least are not true Hausas, but 'Hausanized' ethnic minorities in the North. I once met this guy; he had a Christian first name and an Hausa last name (let me call him Sam Auta). I told him he was the first Hausa Christian I was meeting. He told me he wasn't Hausa, and that he was from southern Kaduna.
But he told me one interesting thing, which is that the Maguzawa (pagan Hausas) are beginning to embrace Christianity or a syncretic form of Christianity. I am from Southern Kaduna and we are not Hausas. Southern Kaduna is made up of different tribes and ethnic groups with their language and dialects. The hausa language is the lingua franca of the north, hence people from the southern part of the country especially those who don't understand the ethnic composition of the north tend to refer to anybody from the north as hausa. Another reason for this is that some of us from the minority tribe in the north bear hausa names. As for the Maguzawa, they are the Hausa Christians am referring to. The term 'Maguzawa' was coined by the hausa muslims and is a reference to the Hausas who refuse to embrace Islam but maintain their pagan practice. Majority of them today have embrace Christianity, and that is why today we the non Hausas refer to them as hausa christians. Politically, the Muslim north does not recognize them. They are often marginalized due to the fact that they rejected Islam and embrace Christianity. So am not surprised that someone here is denying the existence of hausa Christians. In fact my aunt is married to one of them who is from Zamfara. He told me that his family is originally from Sokoto and it was his father who converted to Christianity and was subsequently ostracized by the family. And that's how moved to their present location in Zamfara. |
Culture › Re: Please Do Hausa Tribe Practice Their Culture Or Only Islamic Laws Rule Them. by Cocolatti(m): 12:32pm On Dec 23, 2017 |
AlderFadington: There are Hausa pagans but I'm yet to see a Hausa Christian being a northerner and living in the north all my life. If there are they must be a new breed of converts. But religion should not affect Hausa culture. Hausa culture is one and shame regardless of religion. If truly you are a Northerner living in the north then I think you are being economical with the truth about Hausa Christians. There are Hausa Christians in Kaduna(makarfi, ikara), Zamfara(tsafe, bungudu), kano and Katsina. Please don't allow religious sentiment to be cloud your reason. This is a known FACT! |
